Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Iran-backed Yemeni Shi’ites fire two missiles at Saudi capital

May 9, 2018 3:54 pm By Robert Spencer

The Iranian mullahs signaling their belligerence yet again. But even when the Iran deal was in force, they were doing this, so there really is no difference.

“Yemen rebels fire two missiles at Saudi capital: coalition,” AFP, May 9, 2018:

Riyadh (AFP) – Two ballistic missiles were fired at the Saudi capital Riyadh on Wednesday, according to the coalition battling rebels in neighbouring Yemen who claimed the attempted attack.

Saudi Arabia’s air defences “intercepted” one of the missiles, while another crashed into a desert area south of Riyadh, coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki said.

The missiles were “unquestionably” fired at the city “with the intention of hitting inhabited areas”, he added.

Maliki blamed the attack on “militiamen and terrorists, vassals of Iran” who try to “threaten the security of Saudi Arabia, the region and the world”.

Earlier on Wednesday Al-Ekhbariya state television said the country’s air defences had intercepted the two missiles over Riyadh.

Two explosions were heard in the city, according to an AFP photographer.

Yemen’s Huthi rebels quickly claimed responsibility for attacking “Riyadh Dry Port and other economic targets” in the Saudi capital with Burkan 2H ballistic missiles.

State-run Saudi Press Agency said the country’s air defences hours earlier had also intercepted a ballistic missile targeting the southern city of Jizan.

The rebels also claimed the Jizan attack, via their Al-Masirah TV….

An all out mid east war may be on the horizon…These people have never been able to get along with themselves, much less with the west…If it were not for the possibility of those who may want to assimilate with the sane world and innocents of all ages, and maybe even some who could find Jesus, probably it would be better if the whole area should be turned into glass…glass is made from sand isn’t it? plus the smoke from burning oil would cover the sun causing a frozen sea of glass. Outlook……..Ohooooo that is just too dreadful. So the world will just sit back and let Islamic terrorist continue to grow in these countries and spread throughout the west as well and…..well there you have it….. BELIEVE IT OR NOT……All this is playing out just as predicted in the Holy Bible.

Iran backs Hezbollah. Iran backs the Houthis. Iran is in Syria, and Lebanon. Iran wants nuclear arms. They are itching for a fight.

          Garfield,

It is even worse than you described. The Daily Caller reported a few days ago that the Iranians have Hezbollah poised in the US and elsewhere as sleepers just waiting for the signal from the mullahs in Tehran to attack unarmed civilian targets to cause havoc and fear. Aside from China, Iran is our worst enemy and is certainly the State of Israel’s greatest enemy.

I understand that the Saudis’ lineage goes back to the Jews and MbS says he’s trying to bring about a more moderate Islam so that Saudi Arabia can contribute to the world, so I am hoping to see changes for the better. The only sticking point is that Saudi Arabia is Islamic.

        • Ray Jarman says

          May 11, 2018 at 1:18 pm

Peggy, Unfortunately Iran has the means and will not hesitate to use nuclear weapons against not only the Saudis, who are working with the Israelis, but Israel and possibly Europe. If the Iranians are not held in check, the Saudi’s will acquire nuclear weapons themselves from the Pakistanis if not from somewhere else. As Orwell pointed out, Napoleon was more equal than others and the mullahs in Tehran are much more dangerous to everyone than the Saudis.

“Two ballistic missiles were fired at the Saudi capital Riyadh on Wednesday, according to the coalition battling rebels in neighbouring Yemen who claimed the attempted attack.”

What kind of news reporting is this? Who is the “who” who claimed the attempted attack? The rebels in Yemen, or the coalition who are battling the rebels? Aren’t editors supposed to find and fix ambiguities like this? If this were machine-translated (e.g., by Google Translate) into, say, French, who would the “who” become?

There is a huge huge humanitarian crisis in Yemen the mainstream media isn’t telling you about because the Saudis spend so much money buying stuff in the US. Mainly military equipment for billions of US $.
So here we have the filthy rich, filthy muslim Saudis, who publicly behead people in case you didn’t know, attacking the poorest nation (also muslim) in the area using US weapons. I feel they deserved it when their golden muslim palaces are attacked in response.

    • Savvy Kafir says

      May 9, 2018 at 5:40 pm

I believe all of your points are true. But I don’t want to see us get involved in another humanitarian crisis in the Muslim world — all of which is (to varying degrees) hostile to the West, and populated by people who do not share our basic worldview. That money & manpower are better spent on other things. So the crisis in Yemen is one blind spot of the mainstream media I’m OK with.

On the other hand, the Saudis & their people & culture are despicable throwbacks to the 7th Century. And the Saudis themselves are KEY financers of the Islamization of the West, so we should NOT be doing business with them. We should not sell them our weaponry. We should not allow them to buy business interests or political influence in the West. We should not allow them to build mosques in the West. We should not allow them to make donations to American or European universities, which then indoctrinate their students, turning them into PC, Islam-friendly snowflakes.

      — And we should NOT buy their goddamn oil!

Anyone who is concerned about the Islamization of the West, funded largely by the Saudis & other oil-rich Muslim nations, should enthusiastically support the development of alternative energy. Especially hydrogen fuel cell technology & infrastructure, which offers a sustainable, eco-friendly alternative to gasoline & diesel-powered internal combustion engines for cars, trucks, buses, & trains. The hydrogen can be made from WATER, using wind-or-solar-powered water electrolysis; and these vehicles emit nothing by water vapor.

Even if you’re not a tree-hugger like myself — and even if you tend to be suspicious of environmentalists (for whatever reason) — you really should get on board with the development of alternative energy, because it can allow us to drastically and permanently defund our enemies in the Muslim world AND Muslim colonizers in the West.

The shias have been lobbing rockets into Saudi Arabia for some time now. Several have landed near the international airport just outside of Riyadh several times. Stratfor.com and Gartestone.com often report on these rocket attacks. For the Saudis, it could become worse since the Pakistanis have said they are pulling their troops from Yemen. I could agree that if these nations tore themselves to pieces, it would be good news but at the same time, I would be extremely worried because the Russians and Chinese would rush in. The Chinese are causing trouble in Djibouti as they continue to use military grade lasers to impair US military pilots’ eyesight.

Spencer forgot to tell us that the Saudis currently have troops in Yemen, killing Yemenis there. Their invasion is supported by the US which is refueling Saudi planes involved in attacks on Yemen. But if the Yemenis launch missiles at Saudi Arabia in retaliation, it is a sign of Iranian belligerence? I hope Robert is getting paid a lot of money from the Saudi and Israeli thugs for his unflinching service to their cause.

    • Linda says

Iran funds the Houthis, get it? iRAN. It’s not some group of poor Yemenis being hassled by Saudi arabia. Iran has evil proxy groups in Yemen and syria. It funds Hezbollah which has infiltrated a American drug cartels. Nations are interconnected not little fairy tales with white picket fences. And what runs the world is money and power not humanitarian ideas. Follow the money, drugs, corruption and power and how things work makes more sense. So yes the Houthis are Iranian belligerence.

I don’t get why we even need to discuss this.
Who cares who is helping who in that region? Let them have their wars and tribal bickering as long as we don’t get involved in ANY way.

Let them sort this out any way they can. We certainly can’t pass judgement on any little bandit group over there because none of us know enough about every little tribe and their history nor do I care to know.
