This keeps happening in “moderate” Malaysia. But in the West, we are much more enlightened. We don’t arrest people for insulting Islam. We simply excoriate them as “racists” and “Islamophobes,” and ostracize them from polite society. We are much more advanced in the West.
In case you missed it: Mahathir Mohamed, who has famously said that Jews rule the world by proxy, has once again become Prime Minister of Malaysia. Now why did the Jews allow that?
“Man arrested for allegedly insulting Dr M and Islam on Facebook,” The Star, May 17, 2018:
PETALING JAYA: The police have nabbed a man suspected of insulting Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Islam on Facebook.
In a statement posted on the official Langkawi IPD Facebook page on Thursday, police said that the suspect was arrested on Wednesday after several NGOs (non-governmental organisations) filed a police report against him the day before.
They had voiced dissatisfaction with his “excessively insulting statements on Facebook against Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Islam”….

Malaysia must be “moderate” — they didn’t kill him outright and sell his female relatives into slavery. Yet.

Malaysia is in the midst of a democratic revolution following 60 years of uninterrupted one party rule. The vote which toppled the old order was held barely a fortnight ago and was successful against all the odds. The atmosphere, as in any revolutionary period, is in extreme flux. Naturally old laws are still in place and injustices common to other Muslim majority countries are still being enforced; but the signs for change look positive in particular because modern Malays, as well as (predominantly non-Muslim) ethnic Indian and Chinese Malaysians are finding their voices and speaking out against the old censorship regime.

I hope so–but I’m not sure I see Malaysia abandoning the oppressions of Islam any time soon.

Mahathir Mohamed is 92, what do you expect?
Like Robert Mugabe at 92.
Robert has gone but Mahathir comes back.

When you land in Kuala Lumpur, you can see how moderate the Islamic authorities are. There are stickers with the drawing of a marijuana leaf and some rifles pointing. When you spend some time in the country, you realize that there is a double system of justice, one for Muslims and another for non-Muslims … and that in case of collision … sharia prevails. It is not allowed to abandon Islam, the children of a Muslim will be Muslims (even if they do not want to be Muslim) and the inheritance will be distributed on the basis of Islamic law. Malaysia is another theocratic infectious well where human rights and freedoms are always at the limit of being eliminated. It’s only a matter of time, Malaysia will end up being a 100% Islamic theocracy.

It’s worth noting that Mahathir Mohamed is now 92 years old and was elected a fortnight ago on an unusual Joint Ticket with Anwar Ibrahim who was serving time in jail. The arrangement (and hopefully Mahathir will keep his word) is for Anwar to replace him as Prime Minister within a year or so. Dr Mahathir has been recycled as Prime Minister by the Malaysian People in order to oust the Kleptocracy of the former Prime Ministers family and his inner political circle. Three unresolved murders have also been linked to the disgraced outgoing Prime Minister Najib. Anwar Ibrahim is the leading figure for modernisation and reform in Malaysia today and has served several years in prison on various ‘cover’ offences but in reality he has been Malaysia’s foremost Political Prisoner, something recognised for quite some time by Malaysia’s younger generation. So politics and the rules of social discourse are in flux at the present time and while it’s very important for the pressure for reform and freedom of speech to be stepped up, it’s also worth remembering that the country only narrowly escaped the jaws of a very nasty dictatorship.
