The Qur’an and Sunnah sanction slavery, which is why it is so hard to eradicate in North Africa even today. In my new book The History of Jihad From Muhammad to ISIS, I recount how Captain G. F. Lyon of the British Navy traveled to Tripoli, where in 1819 he witnessed the arrival of a shipment of slaves in Murzuq:
At the end of the month [August 1819], a large Kafflé [caravan] of Arabs, Tripolines, and Tibboo, arrived from Bornou, bringing with them 1400 slaves of both sexes and all ages, the greater part being females…. We rode out to meet the great kafflé, and to see them enter the town—it was indeed a piteous spectacle! The poor oppressed beings were, many of them, so exhausted as to be scarcely able to walk; their legs and feet were much swelled, and by their enormous size, formed a striking contrast with their emaciated bodies. They were all borne down with loads of firewood; and even poor little children, worn to skeletons by fatigue and hardships, were obliged to bear the burthen, while many of their inhuman masters rode on camels, with the dreaded whip suspended from their wrists, with which they, from time to time, enforced obedience from these wretched captives. Care was taken, however, that the hair of the females should be arranged in nice order, and that their bodies should be well oiled, whilst the males were closely shaven, to give them a good appearance on entering the town. All the traders speak of the slaves as farmers do of cattle.

I believe those Arabs acted against the teachings of their religion. Prophet Muhammad said:
“Your servants and your slaves are your brothers. Anyone who has slaves should give them from what he eats and wears. He should not charge them with work beyond their capabilities. If you must set them to hard work, in any case, I advise you to help them”

the quote does not sound like the slave of the allah god of islam (unknowable; the best of all deceivers). its slave (lately contrived; full of lusts; lacking compassion) was not so merciful. this exemplar of behavior for all to imitate was a thug, a rapist, pedophile, thief, murderer …!, who really was a nasty sort, illiterate and sick.

He sucked the tongues of little boys and girls, cross- dressed, married Aisha when she was nine years old, had sexual relations with her short of full sex until she hit puberty and according to a Hadith lay with a corpse as with a woman. A very creepy individual who you wouldn’t want near your children.
And of course, he traded slaves including black slaves. He described a black slave as ‘raisin head’.

Notice that the repulsive Nour is here *condoning* the enslavement of Infidels. But how could she do otherwise? The vicious “Prophet” himself enslaved his victims, and was a notorious slave trader. He also raped and impregnated a sex slave he was given.
She does not condemn slavery today, either. Slavery is still rife in the Muslim world. But–again–how could it be otherwise? The model of the “Prophet” is considered good for all time.
As for Muslims supposedly treating slaves well, this is belied by the history of slavery in Islam. Not only are there numerous accounts from those who managed to escape of the savagery of Islamic slavery–including those from today, from those kidnapped and enslaved by Muslims in Sudan and the Islamic State–but the very fact that there are so few survivors of slavery in Dar-al-Islam.
Slavery was brutal and unjust everywhere–but there is a huge population of descendents of slavery in places like Brazil and the United States–yet there is virtually no sign of the descendents of slavery in the Muslim world, despite its having been so rife there. *Very* telling.

True, J D S.
And Greg, this is just the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Most of the slaves taken in Africa went to Muslim lands. Also, the Muslim slave trade both preceded and outlasted the trans-Atlantic slave trade.

Nour, Islam hates BLACK PEOPLE:
Mohammed’s Male Slaves
Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya relies on the prophet’s biographies written by great ancient scholars; therefore, he is regarded by Muslims as an authority, a primary source and a leader among the students of Islam.
“These were the names of Mohammed’s male slaves:
Yakan Abu Sharh, Aflah, Ubayd, Dhakwan, Tahman, Mirwan, Hunayn, Sanad, Fadala Yamamin, Anjasha, Al Hadi, Mad’am, Karkara, Abu Rafi’, Thawban, Ab Kabsha, Salih, Rabah, Yara Nubyan, Fadila, Waqid, Mabur, Abu Waqid, Kasam, Abu ‘Ayb, Abu Muwayhiba, Zayd Ibn Haritha, and also a black slave called Mahran, who was re-named (by Mohammed) to Safina (ship).”
Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya: “Zad al-Ma’ad” (his book) (part 1, p. 114, 115, and 116)
Mohammed’s Female Salves
Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya in “Zad al-Ma’ad” (his book) continues:
“These are the names of Mohammed’s Female slaves (Maid Slaves or Concubines):
Salma Um Rafi’, Maymuna daughter of Abu Asib, Maymuna daughter of Sa’d, Khadra, Radwa, Razina, Um Damira, Rayhana, Mary the Coptic, in addition to two other maid-slaves, one of them given to him as a present by his cousin, Zaynab, and the other one captured in a war.”
Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya: “Zad al-Ma’ad” (his book) (Volume One, p. 116)
So in addition to 21 wives, by average Mohammed also owned 11 concubines and female sex slaves.
It is clear for all, where Mohammed, the Quran and Allah stand on slavery, and Africans.
Al-Kisa’i writes in his chapter on Noah:
“It is said that one day Noah came to his son and said, ‘My son, I have not slept since I boarded the ark, and now I desire to sleep my fill.” So saying, he put his head on Shem’s lap and went to sleep. Suddenly a gust of wind uncovered Noah’s genitals; Ham laughed, but Shem jumped up and covered him. When Noah awoke he said, “What was that laughter?” Shem told him what had happened, and Noah grew angry with Ham. “Do you laugh at your father’s genitals?” he said. “May God change your complexion and may your face turn black!” And that very instant his face did turn black. Turning to Shem, he said, “You covered your father: may God shield you from harm in this world and have mercy upon you in the next! May He make prophets and nobles of your progeny! May He make bondswomen and slaves of Ham’s progeny until the Day of Resurrection! May He make tyrants, kings and emperors of Japheth’s progeny!’ And God knows best.”
Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya “one of the greatest scholars of Islam” in “Zad al-Ma’ad” (his book) writes:
“Mohammed had many male and female slaves. He used to buy and sell them, but he purchased more slaves than he sold, especially after God empowered him by His message, as well as after his immigration from Mecca. He once sold one black slave for two. His name was Jacob al-Mudbir. His purchases of slaves were more than he sold. He was used to renting out and hiring many slaves, but he hired more slaves than he rented out.”
Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya in “Zad al-Ma’ad” (Part I, p. 160)
Ahmad Ibn Hanbal reported a saying attributed to the Prophet which in effect states that God created the white race (dhurriyyah baydâ) from the right shoulder of Adam and created the black race (dhurriyyah sawdâ) from Adam’s left shoulder. Those of Adam’s right shoulder would enter Paradise and those of the left, Perdition. Other equally racist sayings have been attributed to the Prophet in the traditions.
In 889 AH, Ibn Qutaybah wrote that “Ham, son of Noah, was light-skinned and handsome. Then God Most High changed his complexion and that of his progeny [into black] because of the curse [invoked by] his father.” Elsewhere, he states, “They are ugly and misshapen, because they live in a hot country. The heat overcooks them in the womb, and curls their hair.”
As Maqdisi wrote,
“There is no marriage among them [genealogy or nasab being an issue of incredible importance to Arab-Muslims in particular]; the child does not know his father, and they eat human flesh–but God knows best. As for the Zanji, they are people of black color, flat noses, kinky hair, and little understanding or intelligence.”
Nasir al-Din Tusi (d.1274 CE), a famous Iranian philosopher, wrote:
“If various kinds of men are taken and one placed after another, like the Negro from Zanzibar, in the South-most countries, the Negro does not differ from the animal in anything except the fact that his hands have been lifted from the earth, except for what God wishes. Many have seen that the ape is more capable of being trained than the Negro, and more intelligent.” Ibn Khaldun (d. 1406CE) added that blacks are “only humans who are closer to dumb animals than to rational beings.” The reason for their characteristic “levity, excitability, and great emotionalism,” according to Ibn Khaldun, is “due to the expansion and diffusion of the animal spirit” in them.
Sa’id al-Andalusi (d. 1070 CE) wrote that blacks are “More like animals than men,” and that “the rule of virtue and stability in judgment” is lacking amongst them, such noble qualities being replaced by “foolishness and ignorance.” Even such luminaries as Ibn Sina considered blacks to be “people who are by their very nature slaves.”

Next time you want to be believed that you are quoting from an authentic text, you should be able to name your sources! Where does the passage you are quoting come from? From the hadiths, from the Qur’ an, from the Sira?
But I suggest that you read some verses from the Qur’an:
Qur’an 23, 5-6: “Who abstain from sex, except those joined to them in the marriage bond,or (the captives) whom their right hand possess…” Slaves are being referred to as people possessed by the right hand, and it it obvious that a slave-owner was allowed to have sex with his female slaves.
Qur’an 7,24: “And all married women are forbidden unto you save these captives whom your right hand possess,” meaning that even married slave women had to submit to the sexual desires of their masters.
Qur’an 8,69: “But now enjoy all you took in war, lawful and good.” Slaves were part of war booty, and here the slave-owner is enjoined to “enjoy” his slaves. It is not specified in which way he may “enjoy,” but restrictions aren’t imposed on him either.
Qur’an 16,75:” Allah sets forth a parable of two men, one slave who is under the dominion of another: he has no power of any sort; and the other a man on whom We have bestowed goodly favours from Ourselves, and he spends thereof freely, privately and publicly; are the two equal? By no means, praise be to Allah.” So, a slave is never equal to his master, not even in the eyes of Allah are they equal, since Allah didn’t create them equal. Some people are born as free men, somepeople are born as slaves, because Allah tells us so.
Maybe the hadiths are more to your liking.
Sahih Bukhari 62:137: This is a story about women who were taken as slaves after a battle. Muhammad’s men had already killed their fathers and husband, and then raped the women with Muhammad’s approval.
Sahih Bukhari 34:351: In this account Muhammad sells a slave for money. So, he was also a slave trader
And in Sahih Muslim 3901 he trades two black slaves for one Muslim slave.
Abu Dawud (2150) tells us that “some of the companions of the Apostle of Allah were reluctant to have intercourse with the female captives in the presence of their husbands who were unbelievers.”
In Ibn Ishaq no,734 a slave girl is given a violent beating while Muhammed is there, but he does nothing to stop it,
and Abu Dawud (1:142) advises Muslims: “Do not beat your wifes as you beat a slave girl” ( we might rightly assume that the beating of his legal wife was less violent than the beating of his slave-girls)
We can read in Abu Dawud 38,4458 a story where the “prophet” orders a slave girl to be beaten until she bleeds, and then beaten again, after the bleeding stops.
There are a lot of stories like these ones in the hadiths and the sira, I cannot tell them all, but one thing is crystal-clear:
Slaves owned by Muslims were not treated like human beings; they were brutalized, raped, bought and sold off as their masters saw fit, they had no rights, and even Allah didn’t create them as equal human beings. Human treatment of slaves under the rule of Islam is just another myth islamophilic morons try to sell to us.

Even if the quote posted at the top by Nour is authentic, how noble is it to keep your brother in slavery even if you don’t work him beyond his capabilities? My answer to that question is, ‘Not very. The noble thing to do would be always to stand for your brother’s right to be free and also always be willing to help him in any way if you are able.” BTW, Muhammad had no blood brothers or sisters, but he did have some suckling brothers and sisters. Information varies as to the exact number of these suckling siblings and I could find nothing at all about how Muhammad may have helped any of them.

it should be realized that, when Islam came, slavery was prevalent throughout the world as an acknowledged fact of socio-economic existence.
In fact, the economy of many regions during that period depended on a system where slavery played an integral part. It would have been impractical to eradicate slavery with a command to stop it altogether.
it is noteworthy that Islam was the first to initiate the emancipation movement that took the world some seven centuries to adopt and enforce.
Under the Islamic system, we see slaves exalted to the position of military commanders and leaders. When the Prophet sent out an army that consisted of the closest of the Companions — the Muhajirun (Immigrants) and the Ansar (Helpers), the acknowledged leaders of the Muslims — he entrusted Zaid, a former slave, with the generalship of the army. After the death of Zaid, the Prophet appointed Zaid’s son Osama as the commander of the army consisting of such illustrious men as Abu Bakr and `Umar, his two principal Companions.
Only in Islamic history do we find slaves being elevated to the highest positions of power, such as commanders-in-chief and kings, and indeed whole dynasties like the Mamluks of Egypt and the Slave Dynasty of India.

Well, your description of emancipation of slaves under Islam sounds very similar to what was practiced by the ancient Romans. See the excerpt below that I found on Wikipedia under the topic of “Slavery in Ancient Rome.”
” Freeing a slave was called manumissio, which literally means “sending out from the hand”. The freeing of the slave was a public ceremony, performed before some sort of public official, usually a judge. The owner touched the slave on the head with a staff and he was free to go. Simpler methods were sometimes used, usually with the owner proclaiming a slave’s freedom in front of friends and family, or just a simple invitation to recline with the family at dinner.
A felt cap called the Pileus was given to the former slave as symbol of manumission.
Slaves were freed for a variety of reasons; for a particularly good deed toward the slave’s owner, or out of friendship or respect. Sometimes, a slave who had enough money could buy his freedom and the freedom of a fellow slave, frequently a spouse. However, few slaves had enough money to do so, and many slaves were not allowed to hold money. Slaves were also freed through testamentary manumission, by a provision in an owner’s will at his death. Augustus restricted such manumissions to at most a hundred slaves, and fewer in a small household.
Already educated or experienced slaves were freed the most often. Eventually the practice became so common that Augustus decreed that no Roman slave could be freed before age 30.”
I fine it notable that there is not mention of the slave having to change his religion in order to be freed either.

Does Nour consider this vicious behavior a model for all time, as all pious Muslims must?

Actually, there are few of them–and they get nowhere, because enslaving people is a key value of the horrifying creed of Islam. In Mauritania, an estimated *17%* of the population is enslaved. Most Muslims, like Ibrahim itace muhammed himself, *support* slavery.

And Ibrahim itace muhammed has gleefully said that he would see us all enslaved if he gets his way. *Ugh*.

Thank you, Stacy Girl. I do not expect to change this vicious Mohammedan’s mind; I reply to Ibrahim itace muhammed’s nasty posts to expose his ugliness to interested Infidels here.

…………………………..
Let’s see–Ibrahim itace muhammed has claimed that the “mitraist” Bible tells Christians to enslave people. There are no such verses. Let this Mohammedan produce them. I won’t be holding my breath…
The entire trans-Atlantic slave trade–over its whole history–amounted to an estimated 25 to 50 million Africans. The idea that 17 million of these people were thrown to the sharks makes no sense. This was a terrible period in history, but I cannot find this figure anywhere. It is up to Ibrahim itace muhammed to back up his claim.
So far, it is not myself, but Ibrahim itace muhammed who is unable to back up any of his claims.
That should not surprise–pious Muslims reject reason, are unable to argue cogently, and have no understanding of what comprises “irréfutable historical evidence”.

You’re a pair of clowns! Among the last States to abolish slavery were Saudi Arabia and Yemen, which abolished slavery in 1962 under pressure from Britain.
And as your peadophile Prophet kept slaves and *never* renounced the institution of slavery, the immoral example of the ‘man of perfect conduct’ serves as a template for the world of Islam today. Your defense of your savage creed makes you a pair of moral invertebrates!

Sharia states that slaves are merchandise and treated in accordance with the sale of animals. Also:
1. Muslim men could could have sex any time with female slaves.
2. Slaves are helpless before their masters as idols before God.
3. According to Islamic tradition, people at the time of their capture were either to be killed or enslaved. (Some captives were used as ransom.)
4. Muhammad ordered that some slaves who were freed by their master to be RE-enslaved.
5. It is permissible under Islamic law to whip slaves.
6. A Muslim could not be put to death for murdering a slavery.
7. A slave’s testimony is not admissible in court.
8. Slaves cannot choose their own marriage mate.
9. Slaves can be forced to marry who their masters want them to.
I can imagine that some Muslims will say how others did it, but this is their alleged holy prophet and who they say is “an example and mercy for all mankind.” Apologists have said that Muhammad intended to abolish slavery and cite one verse that might imply that while he did not forbid slavery and owned them and had sex with them which was allowed even if you were married. (Worse, Muhammad had sex with his slave Mary in his wife Hafsa’s marriage bed while he sent her on a false errand!
As usual, the apologists have no argument that is soundly supported. Slaves and sex slaves still exist in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and a UAE couple brought two Indian slaves with them to the US, and treated them horribly. The US court found them to be slaves, each was awarded $60,000 and the UAE couple deported.
Imams in Saudi Arabia and Mauritania still insist that “slavery had always been a part of Islam,” which is true. While some Muslims may be opposed to slavery, I don’t hear from them when I mention it that they denounce. Sharia law states that such criticism of the Quran or Muhammad can get a Muslim the death sentence.
MNy young slave African boys were castrated, 6 out of 10 dying from the crude procedure. They were not so interested in them procreating as hindering “their ungovernable sexual appetite.” Well, Muhammad and his men, no less the perpetual sex in Paradise, was hardly moral or constrained.
Ibrahim itace muhammed says
Buraq, did you erase mithraist biblical verses prescribing slavery or It has been abandoned ? Are you not saying jesus was yahweh Who prescribed slavery in OT ? Did he realise that he was cruel in OT prescribing slavery and now merciful abolishing slavery ? I cannot find anywhere in the NT where slavery is abolished. In fact NT implicitly endorsed slavery where it is stated that slaves shall obey their earthly Masters as they obey their heavenly Master. Did those who abolished slavery not contravene the mithraist Bible prescribing slavery ?
gravenimage says
Actually, nowhere does the Bible prescribe slavery.
And it was the Christian West that abolished slavery–Islam never has.
