The perpetrator’s name is given as “Evan H.,” but given that he is Iraqi, that is unlikely to be his actual given name. The name “Evan” also suggests that he is a Christian, but Iraqi Christians don’t generally have names like “Evan” either; it is much more likely that this perpetrator is a Muslim migrant who took the name “Evan” in order to get along more easily in German society. (Another remote possibility is that the German establishment media is calling him this to obscure more migrant crime and protect Merkel.) One reason for concluding that he is a Muslim is that he and his friends were clearly targeting the officers — one of the slapped the victim’s friend in the face just before the stabbing — and the Islamic State (ISIS) has issued calls for Muslims to stab soldiers in the West. The Islamic State issued this call in September 2014:

Strike their police, security, and intelligence members, as well as their treacherous agents. Destroy their beds. Embitter their lives for them and busy them with themselves. Smash his head with a rock, or slaughter him with a knife, or run him over with your car, or throw him down from a high place, or choke him, or poison him….

Dresden – The officer candidates Eric L. and Jens Ole P. (both 20) wanted to celebrate at a student party in the “Kiezklub” on the Louisenstraße.
A devious knife attack ended the evening fun. Eric landed on the operating table during the night. The alleged stabber Evan H. (28) has been on trial since Thursday.
Evan H. and two buddies of his had been previously noticed by a “Kietzklub” waitress on the night of the crime in in mid-February.
“The three were so loud,” the 18-year-old recalled in court yesterday.
On the dance floor, one of the trio suddenly gave Jens Ole two slaps. Officer candidate Eric (20) wanted to protect comrade, who is his only 5 feet, four inches tall.
“Is good now!” he said. Evan H. (28) is said to have intervened and Eric pushed him from the dance floor. “Nothing is good,” the Iraqi replied.
Suddenly Eric felt a slight pain in the abdomen. “After a few minutes, I then realized that I was bleeding from the stomach.” He was apparently hit by knife wounds.
Jens Ole pulled the injured person behind the counter and tried to stop the bleeding: “I was afraid that my comrade would die away under my hands!” In emergency surgery in the hospital, doctors struggled for four hours until the bleeding was stopped.
On Thursday, Evan H. remained silent. The verdict will follow.
