A father murdering his own daughter could be an honor killing. Muslims commit 91 percent of honor killings worldwide. The Palestinian Authority gives pardons or suspended sentences for honor murders. Iraqi women have asked for tougher sentences for Islamic honor murderers, who get off lightly now. Syria in 2009 scrapped a law limiting the length of sentences for honor killings, but “the new law says a man can still benefit from extenuating circumstances in crimes of passion or honour ‘provided he serves a prison term of no less than two years in the case of killing.’” And in 2003 the Jordanian Parliament voted down on Islamic grounds a provision designed to stiffen penalties for honor killings. Al-Jazeera reported that “Islamists and conservatives said the laws violated religious traditions and would destroy families and values.”
Until the encouragement Islamic law gives to honor killing is acknowledged and confronted, more women will suffer.
“Düsseldorf During video call: Sara (7) killed, father (32) arrested,” translated from “Düsseldorf Während Video-Anruf: Sara (7) getötet, Vater (32) wurde festgenommen,” by Florian Jocham, Express.de, July 20, 2018 (thanks to Searchlight Germany):
Düsseldorf – A family argument in Rath, Thursday around 11:30. Dozens of patrol cars arrive, a special task force storms one of the brick houses, and officers overwhelm the 32-year-old family man Ahmed F. in the hallway and restrain him.
His wife Katharina (44) had alerted the police because there was a dispute and Ahmed had threatened the couple’s daughter Sara (7) with an object during a videochat conducted over mobile phone.
Without resistance, the Egyptian was arrested.
Daughter lifelessWhen the special forces entered the apartment on the ground floor, they made a terrible discovery: they found the seven-year-old girl lifeless in the apartment. She was taken to a clinic in an ambulance. There the cute little girl died.
But what happened? “When a telephone dispute escalated in the morning at 10:15 AM, the incident occurred. On the video call, the husband apparently threatened the crying child with an object,” the police report said. That’s why the mother, Katherina, alerted the police.
Everything seemed so good for the small family. Ahmed worked as a garbage collector, Katharina worked as a clerk at the Düsseldorf city administration. The couple had been living in the small multi-family house for more than eight years.
Normal familyA neighbor to the EXPRESS: “I can not believe this, the family was always very friendly and quiet, very normal. We never heard a fight. Our little daughter has always played with Sara. She was a very sweet girl. Yesterday we saw her still happily bicycling around the house. ”
Concern and grief in the whole area. A teenager: “I saw the father recently with the little one on the playground.”
Did Ahmed strangle her?According to EXPRESS information, Ahmed allegedly strangled Sarah. More details should result from the autopsy. Mother Katharina is in psychological care. Did she have to watch the cruel act during the video chat? This must now be the result of further investigations….
