Like every American who witnessed the September 11, 2001 attacks on America, I, too, remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when the attacks took place. During that tumultuous period in America’s history, it was hard to miss America’s mayor, Rudy Giuliani, when he came on TV and informed us all about the latest developments. America’s mayor was highly visible in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center. He became an icon to all of us who watched and witnessed the devastation of 9/11 terrorist attacks.
I am always grateful that we had a right person at the right time during the most tragic event in America’s history. That’s how I got to know Rudy, and that’s why I supported him in his presidential run years after the 9/11 event.
However, this essay is not about Mr. Giuliani’s bravery during America’s tough time. This report is about the cowardice that he has shown by standing with a Marxist-Islamist group for the past ten years, the so-called Mujahedeen-e Khalq (MEK). Does Mr. Giuliani know that the group he has been supporting and receiving large amounts of money from has blood on its hands, including American blood?
For years, Giuliani has been one of the most prominent American officials to advocate on behalf of the MEK, a Marxist Iranian opposition group that claims to be the legitimate government of Iran and resembles a cult. “A Treasury Department investigation in 2012 examined whether speaking fees paid by several MEK front groups to a long list of U.S. politicians, including Giuliani, violated laws on Americans receiving money from designated terrorist organizations.”
It is mind-boggling how a group described by the US government as a cult and previously designated a foreign terrorist organization could be viewed by many Congressmen and other dignitaries as a champion of human rights and secular democracy. Unreal!
This radical Marxist cult is somewhat reminiscent of ISIS for the treatment that it gave to its members who no longer wished to stay at its camp and wanted to depart.
According to a 2003 New York Times report, “For more than 30 years, the Mujahedeen Khalq, or People’s Mujahedeen, has survived and operated on the margins of history and the slivers of land that Saddam Hussein and French governments have proffered it.”
The Times continues: “Led by a charismatic husband-and-wife duo, Maryam and Massoud Rajavi, the Mujahedeen had transformed itself into the only army in the world with a commander corps composed mostly of women. Until the United States invaded Iraq in March [2003], the Mujahedeen survived for two decades under the patronage of Saddam Hussein. He gave the group money, weapons, jeeps and military bases along the Iran-Iraq border — a convenient launching ground for its attacks against Iranian government figures.”
It is hard to imagine, but MEK members were completely cut off from the outside world. Those who escaped the camp revealed that they were not even allowed to watch TV, and were forced to divorce their wives. They had no idea what was happening around the world. All they knew came from the leader, Masoud Rajavi, and his cronies. This is the group our popular mayor has been in bed with for at least ten years or so.
“In 1990, Rajavi said all members must divorce their spouses. My own wife had already left the group by then. All members accepted these terms, and it [applied to] everyone except the leader and his wife Maryam. In a single day, everyone became celibate. Someone asked, ‘What about sex in the afterlife?’ He replied, ‘I know your trick—you want to fantasize about the afterlife. But no—you must be prepared to forget about sex, about spouses, about love.'”
According to the Council on Foreign Relations, throughout the 1970s “the MEK orchestrated terrorist attacks against the state that killed several Americans working in Iran, including military officers and civilian contractors, according to the U.S. State Department. (By 1978, some 45,000 of the 60,000 foreigners working in Iran were Americans.) The MEK denies any involvement with these incidents, asserting that they were the work of a breakaway Marxist-Leninist faction, known as Peykar, which hijacked the movement after the arrest of Rajavi….The MEK participated in the 1979 revolution that swept Ayatollah Khomeini into power, but refutes U.S. government claims that it also supported the hostage-taking raid on the U.S. Embassy in November of that year. ‘Though denied by the MEK, analysis based on eyewitness accounts and MEK documents demonstrates that MEK members participated in and supported the 1979 takeover of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran and that the MEK later argued against the early release [of] the American hostages,’ said a 2011 State Department report on terrorism.”
Mr. Giuliani, along with other former US officials, ought to abandon the MEK and honor the wishes of the Iranian people inside Iran. Mr. Giuliani also should be reminded that both Americans and Iranians desire regime change in Iran, but for different reasons. While America wants to remove a threat in the region, the Iranians want democracy. They have been patiently waiting for forty years. These two are not mutually exclusive, and America would commit an unforgivable sin if it ignores the wishes of Iranians once again.

Andy, I like your comment and the videos. But to say that Islam is winning is far too naive. The top Islamic elites are always fomenting trouble in every part of the globe be it words or actions. The faithful are fed with all kinds of lies and deception just to keep them in good humor. In this scenario, it appears that you are playing into the hands of the terrorist. I won’t be surprised if more terror is motivated against mankind with their perceived victory.
You have also to consider the millions who are leaving Islam and/or embracing Christ’s redemption plan. Much of the world is lost to MC and PC more so the West but things can turn around if we singe heartedly seek to eradicate political Islam,

Let me reiterate it: the people of Iran are the final factors and decision makers. The only thing I say to foreign governments is that if they wish to support the will of the Iranian people, the price to reach our ultimate goal for freedom, will be far less costly [in terms of blood, lives and treasure.] We must rely on our own [inner resources and strength of character and will]. If we stand together with courage, bravery and endurance, the victory will be ours. Prince Reza Pahlavi (translated from Persian by Amil Imani)

Instead they wilfully wrap themselves in fluffy thinking hoping that their “ frenemies “ are doing the same. Europe is being won over by Islam. America is on the threshold.
Demsci says
Amil Imani,
You know so much more than I do about MEK. And what you tell us is shocking. And I do understand that the MEK has a shameful history, especially as vile traitors in the Iran-Iraq war.
But you say that it would be a shame if the Americans again ignore what the Iranian people want (or do not want).
But surely the MEK NOW wants some good things? Now there is the NCRI, coming from them or allied with them. Like Giuliani they too are in favor of democracy! And positive measures. Like circumventing internet censorship in Iran, even blocking some of the propaganda outlets of the regime.
Wasn’t there a great murderous purge, especially of MEK-adherents, some say 30,000 or so killed, in 1988, by the ayatollahs?
To me it seems it already is so difficult to change the policies of Iran or to topple this regime. It seems to me our side, the democratic side, needs all the help it can get.
Can the Iranian people, in all their misery and despair, afford refusing important potential help? We know that politicians are often very pragmatic, not really meaning their professed sympathies and offers of help. But they can be pragmatic. And I do not believe that America, after the downfall of the USSR, is so cynical that it will be in favor of another dictatorship and thereby against a truly democratic state arising. Can;t the Iranian people be pragmatic as well?
Every foreign policy has risks and opportunities, they are all a gamble.
Obama seemed to gamble on appeasement, to the disadvantage of Israel and Saudi Arabia, hoping on a change in regime attitude and policies, but we now think that policy failed.
But what if the MEK can help to crack the Islamic regime’s hold on power? Then surely the Iranians won’t let the MEK establish the same sort of dictatorship as that of the Mullahs?
Amil Imani says
Dear Mr. Demsci,
The Islamist-Marxist gang of MEK has about zero support among Iranians, both in Iran as well as abroad. They are thoroughly despised by the overwhelming majority of the people for being cultists, Islamists and at the same time traitors for having aligned themselves with Saddam Hussein against Iran during the past Iran-Iraq war. What impact de-listing the MEK by Clinton had? It was another foolish foreign policy decision by the Obama Administration. They are highly despised, aging handful of Islamist cultists are only good at lobbying foreign government and international organizations. The Iranian people have already rejected them and their hybrid Communist-Islamist ideology while holding them accountable for treachery. De-listing of the MEK by the State Department was another instance of “brilliant” foreign policy decisions in line with Jimmy Carter calling the criminal Ayatollah Khomeini a religious saint. The best option is moral support for 50 million young and strong Iranian youth.
Millions of Iranians consider the mullahs, their lackeys and lobbyists as true enemies of Iran, the country of my birth. Let’s be clear, Iranians have never asked for charity from anybody, but all they are saying is that people and countries that are at clear risk from the mullahs ought to step to the plate and help the Iranians, in numerous effective ways to get rid of these usurpers, these religious fanatics who are hell-bent on promoting their deadly agenda. The Iranian people will assuredly dislodge these wolves and try them for their crimes with all due process, the due process that they have completely denied for the people of Iran for 40 years. But, tried they will be and we need help from our friends to destroy the common enemy before it escalates its bloodletting program, both in Iran and against Israel and eventually engulfing the entire world.
The kind of help they want is the kind of help President Reagan gave to the solidarity movement in Polland. They do not want any other interferences. They are very capable of choosing their own leader and destiny. We must cheer them for their bravery and passion for freedom, democracy and liberty. God bless
Demsci says
Mr Imani, Thank you for your reply, I feel honored by it. I bow to your wisdom about MEK.
We for 99 % agree I think. American government/ people/ parliament and Iranian people right now do have a common enemy in the Iranian government and a common interest for the establishment of a democratic government in Iran.
It seems to me It is not a question of sanctimonious hypocritical declaring only love and admiration for one another, it is just a matter that both need or could pragmatically use each other well.
Now, in only a “window of opportunity”. It will not last. Trump may be voted out, Ayatollahs might secretly acquire the nuclear capability, or they or Israel might become so desperate to go into all out war.
I see growing big desperation on both sides;
In Iran things are falling apart so to speak. And the Americans and Israeli’s are desperate to prevent the Iranian government acquiring nuclear capabilities.
J D S says
A real democratic government in an Islamic state?
Is that even possible, plausible or or is it perishable?
Now to “America’s Mayor” and the MEK…I know only what I read here about the MEK but I do believe that any questionable association with any Islamic group by an American, shall I say of one “highly esteemed personage” is not to my liking and this personage has the ear of the President if the U.S….Nuf said!
Amil Imani says
Supporting the MEK, a most dangerous terrorist group is tantamount to betraying the ideals of America — the flag holder of freedom in the world. The motives for the strange bedfellows rallying in support of the MEK are difficult to decipher given the overwhelming evidence exposing the evils of this gang of Islamist cultists. The politicians supporting this cult should be warned. Whatever their motives, they are repeating President Jimmy Carter’s monumental folly that brought the infamous Ayatollah Khomeini to power and birthed Islamist jihadism of both Shite and Sunni varieties.
This time around, those circling around Maryam Rajavi, will most assuredly be disgraced and disappointed. The Iranian people shall, for sure, frustrate and defeat the cultist schemers and their cohorts. The Iranian people have suffered for four decades under the yoke of Islamic tyranny and will in no way allow its replacement by a refurbished edition blessed by unknowing politicians.
In this case, history shall not repeat itself. Freedom shall prevail.

The Iranian people within want democracy, is that so, Amil? Our founders fought the most powerful military in the world at that time to throw the yoke of British rule off of their shoulders. Your Iranian democrats don’t seem to be willing to do very much toward that end.
I find it difficult to believe the Ayatollahs could have rose to power by sneaking past so many Iranian democrats, who fell asleep at the wheel. More likely, such Iranians are being vastly inflated in terms of numbers by you.
Rudy Giuliani is a staunch hardliner against having Islam in America, and I’ve not seen anything he’s said that shows him walking that back, have you?
The article does a poor job of showing Giuliani as a counter-jihad advocate and instead leaves the impression he’s not to be trusted because he didn’t throw the pitch at the batter you wanted hit. As other posters have mentioned, Amil, if you want changes in your country (clearly it’s Iran first in your heart, not America first), then take your fight directly to the Iranians.
I despise people who come to America, raise their hand and swear an oath to take the U.S. as their country, and then keep their allegiance in their heart for the country they supposedly had forsaken. Being a U.S. citizen is quite different than an asylum seeker, it does not appear you understand the difference, Amil.

And which Russian “oligarchs” is he shilling for this week?
JayT says
George Washington and Thomas Jefferson owned slaves, so should we expunge them from history books, remove their image from U.S. currency, and evoke their names to stop children from crying?
We likely aren’t going to find any of our political figures *perfect*, so I think it comes down to how much have they contributed toward America’s benefit or demise. If you can make the case that Giuliani’s lifelong efforts are more harmful than good, then your objection to him as a whole is warranted.
The writer, Amil, doesn’t bother to do so. Amil calls him a coward with blood on his hands and basically castigates him as a whole to any American readers while grudgingly admitting to his bravery during 9/11 as if that was a one off.
I happen to think highly of his anti-jihad stance, so there is value there. He’s also reduced crime overall in New York as a mayor by a huge margin, unlike his successor Bil De Blagio, who had the police turn their backs on him during an officer’s funeral, stopped charter schools at the behest of the public teacher union despite the charter schools overwhelming results, and pushed back hard on the monitoring of mosques in NY.
To Amil, his lack of opposition to MEK means he’s to be despised as an American as implied though not expressly stated as such and nothing else that he’s done matters. This is not an American, it’s an asylum seeker with U.S. citizenship.
Amil Imani says
Another aging MEK agent. Listen,
We have invaluable allies on the ground in Iran. There are some 50 million Iranians who are the best hope of the world in that part of the world. These enlightened Iranians despise the Mullahs and have no animosity toward Israel or the United States. Most of these people are well-educated and smart and have broken away from the slavery and fraud of Islamism. They are in the best position to send the Mullahs packing for good. Instead of throwing a lifeline to the sinking ship of the Mullacracy, we must act resolutely in doing everything non-violent to help them defeat the Mullahs. It is our best bet. No interference in Iranian affairs except moral support.
President Trump knows exactly what to do. Yours in liberty.

I went to vice.com and found within the article titled, “A Former MEK Member Speaks About the ‘Cult’ of Extremism,” that MEK was, “deemed an enemy of the new Iran,” by “Ayatollah Khomeini’s theocratic regime,” after which MEK adopted the methods of suicide bombing and assassinations, which were considered, “revolutionary acts,” by its members.
Putting aside the descriptor “Marxist”, I ask myself, to what lengths would I go to take back my country from radical, tyrannical, religious leadership? I won’t condemn anyone living UNDER the hammer of such tyranny until I can answer that for myself.
JayT says
That’s the issue right there “to take back my country”. You aren’t living “UNDER the hammer of such tyranny” if you came to the U.S. and received citizenship.
If you cannot put America in your heart to the extent you have for your former country, then don’t take the citizenship and let one of the millions around the world who are willing to do so have it.
I wonder how many articles Amil has written concerning Iran as opposed to the welfare of America in general? I bet that would be telling.
scherado says
With respect to the first paragraph I don’t know what you mean.

Interesting article. Well, knowledge is power. It also serves as an overwhelming guide to doing the right thing.
The CIA back in the late 1940’s and early Fifties thought Ho Chi Minh was nothing more than a Vietnamese nationalist. The CIA also initially believed Castro a good counter to Batista.
I don’t mean to dump on the CIA. It also got many things right and helped to win the Cold War against Russia, which was once again on the wrong side of history (when has Russia ever been?). But even very good people can get things terribly wrong at times. This is almost always due to a dearth of knowledge.
Yep, to be on the right side of history, proper knowledge is important. Paramount, most times, actually.
Amil Imani says
The mullahs’ regime still exists because the U.S. and its allies have failed to pursue a workable strategy to end it. It is, at best, appeasement to make deals with the sworn enemy of the United States of America. How clearly and how often do the mullahs have to proclaim their irreconcilable and irreversible hostility toward the U.S. and Israel? These mullahs believe their own delusions of grandeur. They think that they can win their brinkmanship and they do firmly believe that they will outsmart America and the rest of the world, and will have their way. In the process, they are more than willing to do whatever services their objective, by any and all devious means. Dealing with the mullahs brings to mind the “peace in our time” that Neville Chamberlain brought to England by his deal-making with the Fuhrer.
Except that this time the stakes can be much higher and deadlier.
I am personally opposed to any military action in Iran. So, that’s out. Let us be reminded again that we have invaluable allies on the ground in Iran. There are some 50 million Iranians who are the best hope of the world in that part of the world. Cheer for them and support them.

My guess is that Rudy Giuliani–generally, as noted, a staunch Anti-Jihadist–is supporting this group because they oppose the sanguinary Mullahs in Iran.

KJW says
Iranians don’t like MEK aka the National Council of Resistance of Iran. A friend there says they are no different than the mullahs, essentially, and two sides of the same kind of coin. Maryam claims she’s Iran’s rightful leader. Iranians who don’t like their theocracy don’t want Marxism style communism or socialism just as I don’t that I’m the US. I’ve paid some attention to MEK’s online site and Maryam’s goals on issues such as her 10 Point Plan for women’s rights. She also says “Mullahs’ sharia laws will be repealed.”
They aren’t trustworthy and I’ve wondered why US politicians have attended their conferences such as the one in France a year or two ago. Saudi Prince al-Faisal also spoke at the conference among Americans. Iran says they give MEK money. John Bolton spoke there and others.
It doesn’t do Iranians any good. If Trump admin people associate with MEK it will create ill will with Iranian citizens and those who supported Trump will feel betrayed. The US has to get out of the regime change business that usually results in deaths of innocent people. MEK has no legitimacy in or with Iran with the majority of Iranians, by far. Expatriates don’t count.
Stop dealing with MEK right now! They should NOT be dealing with the White House nor affecting policy. Iranians will side with the mullahs against MEK or invaders…doesn’t matter if they hate the mullahs, they are very pro-sovereignty. All they wanted in the past was for the US and world to put pressure on the mullahs.
Unbelievably bad strategy. See Foreign Policy magazine 4-30-18 “Bolton’s Ascent Gives Iranian Group A New Lease in Life.” They should absolutely not have a voice in US policy.
In the meantime deal with the more dangerous long term threat KSA. Americans are sick and tired of their Islamofascism and corruption of US politicians. They think of American politicians as slaves who will easily cave in to their demands and oil dollars because it’s worked so far. We are sick of the Middle East and the MIC’s ravenous appetite for weapons money, all at a cost to Americans and our future.
Demsci says
Yes, like Amil also advocates this. And no, almost all here and the vast majority of Americans oppose an American invasion a la Iraq 2003.
But ….. beggars can’t be choosers. Aren’t the Iranians not only very oppressed but also getting poorer and worse off the last few months? Haven’t they in great numbers by now given up on the Mullahs? What alternatives do they have, but cooperate as much as possible with the Americans?
And, as Jayboo writes; is it fitting that they are so critical of current American policy? Which is so clearly anti-Mullah, so contrary to the appeasement of Obama?
Or is such a critical attitude yet another sign of double standards, in that the Westerners are held to much higher standards than they hold themselves to?
And; isn’t it the case that Iranians have been so much brainwashed by the Ayatollahs to hate, despise and criticize/ condemn the Americans NO MATTER WHAT THEY DOI? Why, In Iran people happily burned effigies of Obama in his time, and Obama was going out of his way to be reasonable with them, wasn’t he?
Are many Iranians due to their Islamic religion perhaps not Staunchly anti-Amerrican, anti-Semitic, with strong negative feelings? Just as the Iraqi’s in Iraq 2003? Like Muqtada al Sadr? Saddam had killed his father, yet still he demonized and fought the Americans!
So regardless if America and advisers of the president work with or without the MEK, I think we should NOT believe it makes a lot of difference in the attitude of the Iranians toward the policy of the American government.
the Iranian people with the negative attitude won’t appreciate disavowal of MEK ONE BIT and stay just as negative.
the Iranian people who genuinely want democracy will understand that America is very imperfect, yet very useful for their purpose and they will be able to do cost-benefit analysis and accept American help WITH MEK-participation! As they will be desperate and longing for freedom with all their hearth. And think ABA; ANYTHING BUT AYATOLLAHS.
Demsci says

Many politicians in all corners of the globe lack scruples and only cater to the highest bidder. Giuliani is no exception, and for the record he was never anybody’s hero. The real heroes were the hundreds of first responders during 911 who sacrificed their lives to save the victims of that homegrown fiasco.
The new business of siding with this Islamo-marxist terrorist organization and shedding crocodile tears for the Iranian people is not really a new endeavor. It is yet another shameless hoax just like the time the US government and Britain, with the help of Mossad and MEK, toppled the Shah to prevent Iran from becoming an economic superpower that concurrently sits on the second largest reserves of hydrocarbons on the planet.
By aiding the Islamists to win a fake revolution against the Shah with the aid of the MEK in the late 1970s, the US had thought that the Islamic “greenbelt” would also block the Russians from wielding influence in the Persian Gulf, but this plan backfired as it did in the 1953 CIA-led coup against the first democratic government of Iran.
Between the late 70s and early 80s the US had unknowingly created a “Frankenstein” monster named the “Islamic Republic”, which by 1981 was already out of control and had gone rogue and did not yield to it’s master’s commands. So in order to put down the its monster, namely the ‘theocratic cleptocracy of Iran, led by a band of criminals, the US had to engage the help of Saddam Hussein of Iraq to start the 8-year Iraq-Iran War, leading to the destruction of millions of lives and billions of dollers in material loss.
So, once again in desperation, in order to give it another go to clean up its 3rd major blunder in Iran since 1953, the US government is resorting to new pretexts and any trickery at hand, even if it means bombing millions of innocent Iranians once again (as it did through its proxy war—Iraq-Iran War between 1980 and 1988)—the same people who have fallen victim to the US government’s hegemonic and inhumane ambitions in Iran in the name of “promoting democracy and human rights” over and over again.
Unfortunately, our current government (since neo-fascism has taken hold) is domestically destroying true American ideals guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States and is brining us on the verge of destruction and self-implosion. Corrupt politicians are blocking ordinary Americans citizens without corporate agendas from having any say in the conduct of our nation domestically and internationally! Regretfully, a great number of our people have their heads in the sand and still believe in a rosey picture of our country that no longer exists (or perhaps never existed in an ideal way). They do not realize that the semblance of a democracy that we currently have left is being hijacked by the likes of Giuliani and numerous others currently in power.
It is time to wake up and smell the sewage, so we can begin to clean it up from the core before our American democracy turns into a greater kakistocracy and wither away.

………………………..
What “blunder”? Presumably he means President Trump daring to walk back Obama’s appeasement.
And is anyone surprised that this thug is sneering at democracy and human rights? I’m not.

Unfortunately, our current government (since neo-fascism has taken hold) is domestically destroying true American ideals guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States and is brining (sic) us on the verge of destruction and self-implosion. Corrupt politicians are blocking ordinary Americans citizens without corporate agendas from having any say in the conduct of our nation domestically and internationally!
………………………..
Now–predictably–this creep has gone from sneering at American values to saying that the US is “fascist”. Notice that he does not provide a single example. But then, he probably doesn’t think he needs to bother.

Regretfully, a great number of our people have their heads in the sand and still believe in a rosey (sic) picture of our country that no longer exists (or perhaps never existed in an ideal way). They do not realize that the semblance of a democracy that we currently have left is being hijacked by the likes of Giuliani and numerous others currently in power.
It is time to wake up and smell the sewage, so we can begin to clean it up from the core before our American democracy turns into a greater kakistocracy (sic) and wither away.
………………………..
What does he mean by “our” democracy? He has done nothing but spout apologia for Islamic savagery here, along with calumny against our democracy. *Ugh*.

Giuliani was not a hero on 9/11. He ordered the immediate removal of all the debris to be removed before it could be examined by the proper authorities, which was now a crime scene. He was also told the first tower was going to collapse before he did, but he didn’t tell the fire fire fighters, & left them to die when it collapsed:

One look at John McCain (I understand the article in not about McCain) But read me out. One look a McCain should show you that a man lives 2 lives. One while young and the other when old.
Maybe Rudy is following the pattern.

I must disagree with Mr. Amil Imani. The American Civil War was in fact ‘the most tragic event in America’s history’.
Unfortunately, most Americans have still not picked up a book to learn the true supremacist agenda of Islam.
I hope and pray now that THE HISTORY OF JIHAD is available, that Americans and all other Western countries will inform themselves to the fact that JIHAD is NORMATIVE ISLAM, rather than an ABERRATION.
All jihad is aggression.

Had it not been for Jimmy Carter, Iran would have a peaceful and happy country. Make a note of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZfkG78k3rA

Your assessment is too simplistic. But for Jimmy Carter Iran would be full of happy, peaceful people and daisies and buttercups would be everywhere?
More complicated than this. Carter did the wrong thing, no doubt here, but millions of Iranians welcomed Khomeini when he came back from France. I remember the !970’s when Iranian students I spoke to in America told me how much they hated the Shah, SAVAK and they said either nothing negative about Khomeini or praised him and his compatriots.

There is no doubt that Jimmy Carter was a weak and appeasing president, and I am no fan of his.
But no–he did not cause the Islamic revolution in Iran, nor did he do anything to spur it.

The MEK is trying to overthrow the Mullah’s of Iran. That is a good thing.

MEK people are around 80 years old. 50 million young Iranians will do the job.
