What could possibly go wrong? After all, he apologized!
“UH engineering student who tried to join ISIS in Syria sentenced to 18 months in federal prison,” by Gabrielle Banks, Houston Chronicle, June 25, 2018 (thanks to Creeping Sharia):
A college student from Spring who got cold feet en route to joining ISIS fighters in Syria was sentenced Monday to 18 months in prison by a federal judge who warned him against following “impulses” in a search for “easy answers.”
In a sharp departure from the federal sentencing guidelines, U.S. District Judge Lynn N. Hughes ordered Asher Abid Khan, 23, a mechanical engineering student at the University of Houston, to prison followed by five years of supervision after deciding he had shown potential for rehabilitation.
With three rows of his family and friends looking on in the courtroom, Khan apologized to the sobbing mother and other relatives of Sixto Ramiro Garcia, a former Klein Oak High School classmate who was killed in Syria after joining the jihadists….
The sentence surprised federal authorities, who had recommended more than 20 years in prison and a lifetime of supervision.
“It’s a significant departure from what probation originally determined his sentence should be, which was over 20 years,” said Ted Imperato, deputy chief of the national security section of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Houston….

Wasn’t there just some big antisemitic incident at U of Houston?
And did we release the last band of Nazis we fought after a nominal 18 months pf Dawa Hilton?

20 years recommended vs 18 months given????? Did someone “touch” this judge? Does the judge have a grudge against the prosecutor? Is the judge a democrat and the prosecutor a Republican? OR has our system of law just deteriorated to this point?

Concerning Muslims who want to join ISIS , as Asher Adid Khan, as well as the hard core zealous jihad–minded ISIS Muslims who are as dedicated as they are dangerous there remains the ,very important, question “How to truly defeat ISIS once and for all ?” The answer to that question was provided in a speech by the ISIS spokesman, Abu Muhammad al Adnani, now dead, in this speech he had declared “True defeat is a loss of willpower and desire to fight…” he further explained “We would be defeated and you victorious only if you are able to remove the Quran from Muslim hearts.” All this leads to a very important question: “Is the Quran the Word of God or is it a fabrication of a man. Thus, is the Quran the truth or a fiction and a hoax ?” The jihadists, as those of ISIS use many verses from the Quran as the main source of justification for their violence, mayhem and murders. As found in For example, 2:191.. 4:47 5:33. 9:5,111,123. 47:4 The answer is clearly given on pages 145 through 157 in THE ISLAMIC INVASION by Robert Morey in which he wrote a section on the Quran with its self-contradictions. Just two of the many he cited are the following “The Quran differs on whether a day is a thousand years or fifty thousand years in God’s sight’ and “Who was first to believe? Abraham or Moses [Sura 6:14 versus 7:143]? The above is inconsistent and illogical. Further, Morey wrote about “The fact that Judaism and Christianity broke up into different sects was used in the Quran to prove that they are not of God [Suras 30:20-32. 42:13, 14]. Yet Islam has broken up into many warring sects and therefore cannot be true if the Quran is right.” Moreover, Morey in his book shows many more contradictions and absurdities in the Quran, there are and how Muhammad incorporated extra Biblical and Jewish folklore along with pre-Islamic Arabian myth and parts of Zoroastrian and Hindu stories into the Quran. Furthermore, the Muslims claim that “the Quran is the direct, literal word of God unmodified in any way by the Prophet who uttered them at the bidding of God.” Nevertheless, in the book UNVEILING ISLAM by Ergun Mehmet and Eethi Caner has shown that the Quran was modified in the following account on pages 45. “Muhammad felt the need to improve on the words of Allah, since he changed Allah’s wisdom for his own on several occasions. A hadith tells of the nonchalant emendations of Muhammad:’ On a number of occasions he [a scribe] had, with the Prophet’s consent changed the closing words of verses. For example, when the prophet had said ‘God is mighty and wise ‘ Adbollah b. Abi Sarh suggested writing down ‘Knowing and wise’ and the Prophet answered that there was no objection. Having observed a succession of changes of this type, Adbollah renounced Islam on the grounds that revelations, if from God could not be changed at the prompting of a scribe such as himself. After his apostasy he went to Mecca and joined the Qorayshites.’ Other writers reveal that later Muhammad and his people did go war with the Qorayshites and he personally killed Abdollah. Obviously Abdollah knew too much and Muhammad wanted Abdollah’s knowledge to die with him.” In conclusion, the Quran is not only a fiction, it’s also a hoax.

Dear Walter,
Your use of history and logic is, I’m sure, very persuasive to non-Muslims. A fervent Muslim, as you well know, is not susceptible to logic or facts concerning his faith.
A Muslim may become less radical when faced directly with long prison time, and suddenly discover he had been mistaken all along, and had betrayed his loving, moderate family. It is best to allow people to choose freely: a Muslim in a Muslim country can choose freely whether to follow active jihad, dawah, or just try to ignore the fanatics. Unfortunately, their freedom of choice is occasionally constrained in Western countries, and therefore, they should be freed to make their own choices in their own countries.

The Koran should be removed by law…but no one has the guts to even attempt to because Islam is classified as a RELIGION…but even if the Koran was removed by law …Could it be removed from the hearts of its adherents??..Only if it can be proved that Islam is from Satan…which should be easy, simply because Satan requires of HIS adherents those things in the Koran that are an abomination to GOD.

18 months for trying to join ISIS? Really?!
He should be dropped into Syria from about 10,000 feet, sans parachute. He’s an enemy, and should be treated like an enemy.

Texas: Prosecutors recommend 20-year sentence for Muslim who tried to join ISIS, he gets 18 months
……………………
Ludicrously short sentence.
Frank Anderson says
Making excuses for the judge, and in no way expressing approval of the sentence: It costs approximately 100 dollars a day to hold a federal prisoner. The courtroom performance of whining and crying with the family chorus impressed an ignorant judge who obviously either knows or believes nothing of the teachings and practice of islam. The claim that he had a “change of heart”, or got cold feet, does not mean he is converting out of islam and its “perfect, final, complete and unchangeable” goals of murder and conquest, but the judge doesn’t know or else doesn’t want to believe 1400 years of experience. And this judge is on the bench for life. As the prosecutor made the unsuccessful pitch, and there is 5 years of supervised probation to follow the prison sentence, something may be noticed to prevent this person from further acts. But what about his ability to inspire others? More people need to know what they do not.
Wayne Martin says
Ah .. so is this guy native-born, or an immigrant. If he’s an immigrant, then shouldn’t he also be deported at the end of his prison sentence?
Might be interesting to know why the judge ignored the prosecutor’s recommendations.

I’m quite sure if one works on this young Muslim and lay the facts before him there’s a chance he may drop Islam completely. For one, he had misgivings about joining them and changed his mind and he’s not your run-of-the-mill, brainless raghead.

Although 18 months is a ludicrous sentence to give for such a crime as wanting to join ISIS, a terrorist organization that has vowed to destroy our western culture and replace it with a Caliphate, one has to wonder why such a light sentence was even considered.
The judge’s excuse that the potential terrorist showed signs of rehabilitation is ludicrous. Most criminals who are caught know that to fein remorse for their crime will most likely get them a lighter sentence or at least gain some empathy.
There is more to this case and the sentence than meets the eye and one would hope that the prosecutor will appeal this sentence so that the reasoning behind the judge’s ruling will come to light.

With the track record of the FBI, DHS and local law enforcement being so dismal in preventing jihad terrorist attacks, mainly because they are all set up to give islamists a cookie and a pat on the back rather than recognize them as enemies of our country, we can expect more frequent and more larger attacks as the number of muslims our government purposely allows inside our borders ever increases their numbers.

18 Months, 20 years; no matter, he will still be a Jihadist when he gets out. Maybe it is just as well that he doesn’t get free room and board for that extra 18 years and six months. He will still be back on Jihad when he gets out, either way.

There are some churches that assassinate members who criticise the teachings and practice. Eglisia Ni Cristo is creating refugee applicants in Canada. These people have spoken against church policies and are now on the hit list. They have to change their names and go into hiding. It’s like what happens when Muslims defect from the faith. There is so much crazy stuff in the name of religion!
The Catholic Church used to burn Jews and Muslims in Spain. Those were the good old days. I wonder what they would do to child molesting priests?
