Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

UK’s Guardian claims Arabic in Renaissance painting shows “deep connection between Europe and Islam”

Jul 10, 2018 1:00 pm By Robert Spencer

The writing in the halos is actually not Arabic, but Pseudo-Kufic: Renaissance-era Europeans thought that the Arabic script was that which was used in Jesus’ time, so they thought that they were lending some historical authenticity to their representations by including some characters that resembled Arabic. That is all that is going on in Gentile da Fabriano’s “Adoration of the Magi,” but Kenan Malik, writing in the Guardian, would have you believe that this painting demonstrates “a willingness, too, to reach beyond the otherness of Islam and to see the Muslim world not as demonic or exotic but as a variant of the European experience.”

And that is his objective, and that of the Guardian: to pull the wool over the eyes of Britons and Europeans, so that they become more accepting of the mass Muslim migrant influx. Sure, there is jihad, and there are Muslim rape gangs, and skyrocketing crime rates due to migrants, but look! There was a “deep connection between Europe and Islam” during the Renaissance. Islam has always been “a variant of the European experience”! So get used to it!

Islam has indeed, at least since the early eighth century, been “a variant of the European experience” — the variant that included violence against non-Muslims, and their subjugation as dhimmis under the rule of Sharia. I show this in immense detail in my book The History of Jihad From Muhammad to ISIS. Don’t be lulled into complacency by the historical lies of Kenan Malik and the Guardian: click here to preorder The History of Jihad From Muhammad to ISIS.

“Look at art for the deep connection between Europe and Islam,” by Kenan Malik, Guardian, July 8, 2018:

The Adoration of the Magi is an early 15th-century altarpiece painting by the Italian painter Gentile da Fabriano. Housed in the Uffizi gallery in Florence, it is considered by many art historians as Fabriano’s finest work and as the culmination of the International Gothic style of the late 14th and early 15th centuries.

Look closely at figures of the Virgin Mary and Joseph, and you will notice something odd. Their halos feature Arabic script. That might seem sacrilege in a Christian religious painting. Yet as a new exhibition in Florence, at the Uffizi and the Museo Nazionale del Bargello, sets out to show, such cultural and religious cross-dressing was common at the time. Entitled “Islamic Art and Florence from the Medici to the 20th Century”, the show explores “the knowledge, exchange, dialogue and mutual influence that existed between the arts of east and west”.

Embodied in the Renaissance view is certainly a sense of Islam as the other. But it is intertwined with curiosity, respect, even awe. There is a willingness, too, to reach beyond the otherness of Islam and to see the Muslim world not as demonic or exotic but as a variant of the European experience.

“I believe that the more we know of each other culturally, the easier things are,” suggests Giovanni Curatola, a curator of the Florence exhibition. That seems a pious hope. To transform contemporary sentiments about Muslims or migrants will require far more than an exhibition. Yet, at a time when many politicians present Islam as alien to the European experience, such shows are a useful reminder of how historically deeply intertwined are the worlds of Europe and Islam….

Mr spencer, are you so ignorant that Arabic and Hebrew or Amharaic spoken by Jesus are from the same semetic family? In fact Arabic writing and Hebrew writing all originated from kufi writing. most Arabs before Islam were unlettered. when Islam came it encouraged writing because of the verse which says “read” .Because of different dialects in spoken Arabic, the kufic writing has to modified to accomodate such variations .Hence, the emergence of Arabic Grammar to standardise Arabic language. As such pseudo-kufic is same thing as Arabic, because Arabic language and Hebrew or Amhraic spoken by Jesus have the same root. They only differ in sound. Eg “peace” in Hebrew “shalom “and in Arabic “salam” and God in Hebrew “Elohim ” or “Alah” jn Amharaic and in Arabic “Allah “.

Ibrahim, it would appear that many Muslims are still unlettered. If the first word sent by your god, Allah, through Gabriel to Muhammad is “read” it indicates ignorance on your god’s part regarding Muhammad’s inability to read (or write). Therefore, to cover for your god’s lack of knowledge regarding Muhammad’s illiteracy, most Muslims say the first word in the Quran mean’s “recite” and not “read.” My point is this: Allah is one very mixed-up god who couldn’t make a clear statement from the very first word and who now doesn’t even speak at all …. leaving his followers in a complete state of confusion.

      • Ibrahim itace muhammed says

        Jul 10, 2018 at 6:22 pm

Cogitoergosum, no learned muslim will interpret the word “iqra”used in the Quran to mean “recite”.Recite is from recitation which in Arabic is “tilawa”,which means pronounciation of Quranic text. As such ” iqra “only means “read “.Remember, Prophet Muhammad has scribes who mastered the art of writing and Prophet Muhammad encouraged muslims to develop the culture of writing and reading and it was developed among Arabs from then upto now as you may know. There is a divine wisdom behind sending Prophet Muhammad as unlettered. It debunked the allegation that he must have copied the informations he was dictating to the scribes from christian and jewish scriptures. How could someone who could not read and write copy from texts?

” I have fabricated things AGAINST GOD and have imputed to him things he has not said”
          al tabari 6:111

That is precisely what a false prophet is and does!

          A prophet of God cannot be a mass-murdering,commandment-of-God violating,immoral
polygamous pederast like the “prophet ” muhammed. That’s not what a prophet is;that’s not what a prophet does.

You muslims wouldn’t know a True prophet if you saw or heard one or have the capacity to understand what exactly constitutes Divine Wisdom!

        • CogitoErgoSum says

          Jul 10, 2018 at 10:20 pm

Ibrahim asks how could anyone who could not read or write copy from texts. The easy answer to that is Muhammad had someone telling him stories and he recited them back from memory. The Quran was never meant to be written down. It was meant to be recited from memory. It was written down only because some people had bad memories. Even Muhammad sometimes forgot some of the verses and replaced them with what he called “better ones,” resulting in the need for the rule of abrogation. The present Quran was put together from various verses written down on scraps of bones, leaves and parchment and saved by happenstance. It would have been better if Uthman had taken all those scraps and burned every last one of them.

No divine wisdom can be found in the Quran in it’s totality (There might be a couple verses I would find wise). Only a bunch of made up stories copied from other religions. It’s heaven is copied from Zoroastrianism, many of it’s stories are copied from Gnostic texts written by people who never knew Jesus. It is a made up religion with no historical basis in reality.

      …………………..

Where to start? Firstly, Pseudo-Kufic script is *not* the same as Arabic–doesn’t Ibrahim itace muhammed understand that “pseudo” means “not”? Pseudo-Kufic script is no more Arabic than someone painting random lines in black ink is writing in Chinese. Pseudo-Kufic just looks something like Arabic to those who do not read it.

As for Hebrew and Arabic having common roots, there is scholarly speculation on the matter, but no root language has ever been found–and it is likely, therefore, that it was purely a spoken language, and not written.

As for Amharic, it is a Semitic language, like Arabic, and it has a similar structure of consonantal roots, with prefixes, suffixes, and inserted vowels that create the meaning. But other than this basic structure it is not even close to be mutually intelligible.

So, these languages are not any more closely related than one would expect for those in the same general geographical area.

Certainly, none of this lends any credence to Islamic claims of supremacy.

The “deep connection” came in the form of deep cuts to the neck and throat and deep stabs to the heart of those who disagreed with the moslims swarming in.

Just because some painting by someone painting at the time, doesn’t mean more than the painter was feeling, thinking, influenced, by language.

When the guy painted the soup can, he might have written the name of the soup in another language had he been fond of another language, learning another language, or just had a particular feeling or mood when he painted it.

The guy who painted this particular work didn’t “speak” for all of Europe This guy who wrote the article is trying to to put meaning in a work of art that isn’t there. He’s engaging in delusional wishing.

islam is unworthy of respect and it certainly isn’t “awe”some. The feelings brought forth by islam on the part of many are disgust, hate, and other negatives.

Somehistory, Gentile da Fabriano was a devout Christian. He and other Renaissance artists thought they were referring to Amharic when they used Pseudo-Kufic–this was *never* a reference to Islamic Arabic.

And Kenan Malik is not engaging in “delusional wishing” here–he is engaging in Taqiyya.

My point was that just because an artist….whatever his background, or intelligence, religion, or any other aspect of the artist’s life or personality, paints something unusual or strange or whatever, what he.she paints comes from the artist.

When I [paint, I paint from what I feel, my mood, how I see the subject. I don’t paint for the whole of the country, nor would I even try. I paint as I see it. What you say about this artist, fits that.

For anyone….moslim or not…to try to say that anything painted shows the “deep connections” of an entire continent with an entire religion, is just plain stupid. As for the “delusional wishing,”…this is what all moslim do. They are deluded by their false god, satan, and they wish things were as they claim. them to be.

          …………………….

Somehistory, I’m an artist myself, so I very much know what you mean.

I’m also an art historian–and my point was that these Renaissance artists who used Pseudo-Kufic in their works were *not* somehow pro-Islamic–that was not the context of this phenomenon at all.

Along with pictorial realism, there was a push for realism in other ways.

Europe at the time was just rediscovering the ancient world–Latin was fairly widely spoken among the educated, but Greek, for example, was not.

There was increased interest in the historical Jesus–which could not always be met with solid information, especially given that the entire Levant was under Muslim rule.

And the “paint what I feel” school of art is a much more recent phenomenon–most Renaissance artists painted for the Church or wealthy benefactors.

          More:

For anyone….moslim or not…to try to say that anything painted shows the “deep connections” of an entire continent with an entire religion, is just plain stupid. …………………….

True–although the use of Pseudo-Kufic was fairly widespread–but you are right–it was *hardly* universal.

And mostly, it is not that Muslims are apt to believe this–they just want *us* to swallow this Taqiyya.

          g,

I do know that you have said before that art history is your “wheelhouse.”

Just as music began with the “church” and composers wrote sometimes under commission, I am aware that artists of the time did also.

I have painted what others wanted me to paint…commissioned…but a part of me still goes into the work. Just as a writer…which I also do…has a part of themselves in every story. As art experts can tell who painted and when it is forged, experts in writing can see the writer in everything he/she writes, and know when someone else wrote it. and not just by the handwriting.

My comment was not to say what the artist “felt” or was “thinking” at the time. I was just putting forth an argument against what the moslim was saying about the work. People of that era cared a great deal more about what the “church” taught and said, and sought the approval of the leaders…much more so than now. Now the church…except for a few like the pope, generally don’t have a lot of criticism of individuals. it’s the common man on the street that jumps on every word or expression.

But one cannot hide what they are when they are expressing themselves through the written word or the brush strokes.

moslims do, in fact, believe a lot of what they say. They lie to get others to believe or do a certain way. I think this moslim wishes to believe that islam is more than what it is, and that it meant more in the past. His writing is to get others to feel that way.

I paint in oils, water color, acrylics, and use crayons….yes, the kind children use…and oil pastels, and pencil. I also use my computer to create art.
I have painted portraits, land and seascapes, florals, and wildlife. I have done a few abstracts

I used to sell some, but now that I have lost most of my eye sight, my painting is mostly for me. I sometimes make cards to give to others.
I would give you a link to some of my most recent work, but at this time, nothing is on display due to some family obligations When the times arrives that I can make them available for sale once again, I will try to remember to let you know.

I also think you and I are on the “same Page” regarding islam. I also think we just have different ways of expressing thoughts and different backgrounds that “color” our perspectives.
And I wish the font on the site was darker and easier to see. Btw, I have “visited” your site before. 🙂

Lydia church, mithraist christianity is not a true religion, because it has been turned into paganism by incorporating pagan doctrines like Godman and begotten son of God inspired by the satan you call Holy Spirit, which negate monotheism taught by prophet Jesus. you are just wasting your time worshiping and when you die definitely you are going to hell together with Satan who deceives you.

What the vile Ibrahim itace muhammed is claiming here is that Jesus was actually Muslim–he is not the Savior, nor is he a healer or peacemaker. Instead, his main role in Islam is to *kill Christians* in the last days. *Ugh*.

Along with all those muslims who worship the black rock in Mecca. Not to mention the crescent moon,(visible on all mosques) an Egyptian god they also adopted. Very pagan religion is Islam.

Unlike allah, who can ONLY communicate in Arabic,God is a polyglot who speaks ALL known languages.
    [unlike allah ,God also understands Biblical Prophecy,the role of the Jews,Theology,Logic and Reason..}

God the Polyglot versus “allah” the linguistically challenged…

So why is there a Bible in every known tongue? To facilate the worlwid promotion of God’s Word.Say,if you wanted to find those essential 2 chief commandments and read up about them in your own language{Chinese,korean,Arabic,Hebrew..pick a language any language!..}you simply use a Bible in your own language,go to Matthew chapter 22 v 35-40.So there you go:in your own language.God the polyglot has very helpfully considered the fact that mankind speaks numerous languages:He’s making it simple for us!

If you wanted to find them in islam?

Well, first you would need to know Arabic as allah unfortunately is a monoglot and can only communicate in that tongue:then you would read allah’s “perfect” koran..and search..and seach..IN VAIN for what is defined as being “The whole law of Moses and all the prophets”.Oh it seems allah missed those laws didn’t he?Along with his epic theology fails, his anti-Semitic,antichristian,misogynistic,bigoted,sectarian nature…honestly?… it is hard to see how allah’s book can be “perfect” isn’t it?If only allah was a polyglot like God.

The Bible:Preaches OBEDIENCE to God’s laws.
2 chief commandments: a God of Love
*available in ALL languages for ALL mankind
    The Good news about God!

the koran:preaches DISOBEDIENCE to God’s laws.
No 2 chief commandments: a god of hate
    *Limited to Arabic and for moslems only(no Jews or Christians koran 9:30 allah CURSES them!}
    The Fake news about “allah”!

FYI, did Jesus spoke the original words of your mithraist Bible even in Greek from which it was translated into other languages? Remember, the Quran was also translated into many languages and the original words of God through Prophet Muhammad in Arabic is retained.

Actually, not only has the Qur’an changed, but there are Hadith that confirm that some of the original was lost. One Sura was supposed to have been eaten by a goat (no, this is not a joke).

UK’s Guardian claims Arabic in Renaissance painting shows “deep connection between Europe and Islam”

The writing in the halos is actually not Arabic, but Pseudo-Kufic: Renaissance-era Europeans thought that the Arabic script was that which was used in Jesus’ time, so they thought that they were lending some historical authenticity to their representations by including some characters that resembled Arabic. That is all that is going on in Gentile da Fabriano’s “Adoration of the Magi”
    ………………………………..

*Exactly*–I’ve written about this painting, including that Pseudo-Kufic script.

    Here’s some background:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pseudo-Kufic

This article features several examples from Renaissance paintings.

I’m sure that “Islamic Art and Florence from the Medici to the 20th Century” is full of such twaddle, though.

And note that the Guardian’s Kenan Malik regularly stumps for the Islamic invasion of Europe:

“Hostility to migrants is not born of rising numbers but a failure of hope”

    https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/jul/01/european-union-migration-crisis-survey-on-attitudes-to-migrants

“How we all colluded in Fortress Europe”

    https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/jun/10/sunday-essay-how-we-colluded-in-fortress-europe-immigration

    There are other stories.

If he can convince some foolish people that Islam was already a part of European society, it will make the Muslim takeover all the easier.

Here’s more on this whitewash and Taqiyya from the Uffizi Museum:

“Islamic Art and Florence from the Medici to the 20th century”

    https://www.uffizi.it/en/events/islamic-art-and-florence

There is, of course, no mention of the threat of Islam to Europe–either now or historically.

In all of this discussing, has anyone mention what the letters (words) in the halos actually mean?

    • gravenimage says

      Jul 11, 2018 at 9:16 pm

Philip, they don’t mean anything. Pseudo-Kufic looks a bit like Arabic, but is not an actual alphabet.

The Muslims destroyed so much art and churches and their art and icons inside them. Muhammad didn’t like pictures and paintings and they would have destroyed this painting if they got their hands on it since it tells a different story of Jesus than the Qur’an. In fact, what about all the paintings of Jesus in the manger rather than Mary giving birth to Jesus under a palm tree or do Muslims believe the Christians lied about that too hundreds of years before?

Why is the Uffizzi doing this when the Pope covered up nude statues when Iran’s President visited? The new UAE branch of the Louvre said how nude paintings are a problem and are not displaying them. If they have problems with nudes that’s everything from the Trevi Fountain to the statues in the piazzas to paintings.

Orianna Fallaci wrote on her 2012 book “The Rage and the Pride” about how they would destroy art. That’s what really needs to be said.

Lulling is making it seem like they’re cultured when they destroyed so much and didn’t produce such art. The destruction should be emphasized…the Arab world needs to own up to it and their barbarism.

That’s not Arabic, it’s ornamental “script” and doesn’t really mean anything and was on the clothing too. It was to give an oriental or Midfle Eastern flair given the location of Jesus, et al. Ideas come from Persian, Hebrew, Arabic and it’s not a language. All it means is that through travel and war associations people get ideas. There’s nothing deep or special about it. It’s like as a child I tried to imitate Egyptian hieroglyphs into my own secret language.

The Uffizzi is playing a dangerous game when they do this with art destroyers and a religion that has been so against graven images. They destroyed many paintings or objects of living things. Thankfully some survived. The way they gutted the Haifa Sophia with nothing left but Mary on the ceiling should tell you they had no cultural respect and to this day.

What most people also don’t realise is that those halos are actually sun disks from paganism. There are many pagan influences in Christianity. Many, if not most, found their way into Christianity through the Catholic Church.
