The continuing presence of U.S. troops in Afghanistan is a pointless waste of lives, money, and materiel. There is no end to the war there, because it is a jihad, and no chance that Afghanistan will be transformed into a Western-style secular republic. The resistance to the jihad can be more effectively pursued in different ways.
“Taliban blindsides U.S. forces with surprise Afghan offensive,” by Carlo Muñoz, Washington Times August 13, 2018:
The Taliban is on the verge of dramatically expanding its control over southern and eastern Afghanistan in a surprise offensive that has caught Afghan and U.S. forces off guard and thrown a vexing new wrench into the Trump administration’s strategy for ending the nearly 17-year-old war there.
The Afghan Defense Ministry said Monday a Taliban assault on the city of Ghanzi — a key provincial capital linking other areas under the Islamic militant group’s control just 75 miles southeast of Kabul — has killed roughly 100 Afghan security forces and some 20 civilians over the past three days.
While the Afghan forces, backed by U.S. and NATO advisors, claimed Monday night to have retained control of central Ghanzi, local reports indicated Taliban fighters still held pockets of the city and had simultaneously swept in and taken over most of the surrounding province’s rural areas.
Analysts said the development has underscored the Taliban’s capability for a resurgence in Afghanistan and will likely increase the group’s political leverage over peace talks with U.S. officials that the Trump administration has quietly been trying to get off the ground.
Should the Taliban ultimately wrestle Ghazni away from Afghan security forces, it would mark the first major district center to fall to the group since it captured the northern Afghan city of Kunduz in 2015….

The pictures I have seen of Afghanistan make it appear to be mostly a wasteland. Growing opium poppies for money and waging war upon each other for a purpose in life seem to be the main reasons for human existence there. Would it be wrong to hope that the next time an asteroid strikes the Earth, ground zero be somewhere in Afghanistan so as to minimize the damage?

LOL Agree.. Since the massacre of over 10 million hindus, Buddists by jihadis from arabia, it has been uncivilised jihadi hellhole.
Real reason Taliban continues to thrive is support from pak ISI , army which buys and sells drugs and supplies funds and arms for them
Just the way Turkey used to allow jihadis to pass through to ISIS held areas and buy and sell oil to fund them. And Turkey was supposed to be NATO ally . LOL .

Exactly right, Dave! Pakistan is doing the same for decades! The Turks were also going along Nato’s regime change agenda in Syria in the beginning but they realized their mistake after hundreds of their people died in terror attacks in Turkey and especially after the failed CIA-orchestrated muslim brotherhood Gulenist coup in 2016 which the Turks saw as an stab in the back by their supposed US ally!

The rules of engagement limit the US military’s conduct of the war against the Taliban. Under the Obama Administration, the Taliban was able to reconstitute its ranks. The US military has the ability to utterly destroy the Taliban forces. Free them to seek and destroy every last Taliban. Otherwise, the author is correct. Pull all American Forces out of the Country.

Walter Sieruk says
First, President Trump is the Commander and chief in the Oval Office he does have the intelligence to heed the wisdom and knowledge of his military generals. They have advised and will further advise President Trump about how to handle the problem of the Taliban in Afghanistan. The US military generals know that the brutal, cruel, and murderous jihadist/Muslims who compose the Taliban cannot be reasoned with. For the Taliban don’t care about nor are interested in or understand language that contains logic and reason. The only language that the Taliban will understand is the language of them being on the receiving end of many very strong powers of military might. As Thomas Jefferson has, so well, declared, “With every barbarous people…force is law.”
Second, on television of FOX NEWS there was a top ranking US General who was interviewed and he spoke hopefully about the then ,at that time, incoming President- elect Donald Trump. This Top US general said that maybe Donald Trump will be more cooperative than President Obama had been in the subject of Afghanistan and how to defeat the terror jihad groups as the Taliban, Al Qaeda and other similar entities that threaten the US interest in the country as well a the security and safety of Afghanistan as well. For Obama has kept on refusing the take the advice on the US military general regarding how to handle the security and safety of Afghanistan. What folly .What foolishness. Such a pride -filled and arrogant Obama who is always contradicting, or bucking, the advice of the US generals had only led to disaster. Donald Trump has the good sense to heed the US generals regarding Afghanistan. As the wisdom found in the book THE ART OF WAR by Sun Tzu instructs “He will win who has the military capacity and is not interfered with by the sovereign.”
Walter Sieruk says
That violent and deadly Taliban jihad attack does lead to an important question: “Is the Quran the Word of God or is it a fabrication of a man. Thus, is the Quran the truth or a fiction and a hoax ?” The jihadists, as the Taliban, use many verses from the Quran as the main source of justification for their violence, mayhem and murders. As found in For example, 4:89. 5:33. 9:5,111,123. 47:4. There, the answer is clearly given on pages 145 through 157 in THE ISLAMIC INVASION by Robert Morey in which he wrote a section on the Quran with its self-contradictions. Just two of the many he cited are the following “The Quran differs on whether a day is a thousand years or fifty thousand years in God’s sight’ and “Who was first to believe? Abraham or Moses [Sura 6:14 versus 7:143]? The above is inconsistent and illogical. Further, Morey wrote about “The fact that Judaism and Christianity broke up into different sects was used in the Quran to prove that they are not of God [Suras 30:20-32. 42:13, 14]. Yet Islam has broken up into many warring sects and therefore cannot be true if the Quran is right.” Moreover, Morey in his book shows many more contradictions and absurdities in the Quran, there are and how Muhammad incorporated extra Biblical and Jewish folklore along with pre-Islamic Arabian myth and parts of Zoroastrian and Hindu stories into the Quran. Furthermore, the Muslims claim that “the Quran is the direct, literal word of God unmodified in any way by the Prophet who uttered them at the bidding of God.” Nevertheless, in the book UNVEILING ISLAM by Ergun Mehmet and Eethi Caner has shown that the Quran was modified in the following account on pages 45. “Muhammad felt the need to improve on the words of Allah, since he changed Allah’s wisdom for his own on several occasions. A hadith tells of the nonchalant emendations of Muhammad:’ On a number of occasions he [a scribe] had, with the Prophet’s consent changed the closing words of verses. For example, when the prophet had said ‘God is mighty and wise ‘ Adbollah b. Abi Sarh suggested writing down ‘Knowing and wise’ and the Prophet answered that there was no objection. Having observed a succession of changes of this type, Adbollah renounced Islam on the grounds that revelations, if from God could not be changed at the prompting of a scribe such as himself. After his apostasy he went to Mecca and joined the Qorayshites.’ Other writers reveal that later Muhammad and his people did go war with the Qorayshites and he personally killed Abdollah. Obviously Abdollah knew too much and Muhammad wanted Abdollah’s knowledge to die with him.” In conclusion, the Quran is not only a fiction, it’s also a hoax.
Frank95054 says
The fact that Muhammad was a fraud is evident in his words and works. Muhammad claims he was a Prophet of the one true God. He claimed to be a descendant of Abraham. Muslims should ask, would the one true God tell a Prophet to murder the descendants of Abraham? NO! Muhammad was used by the Great Deceiver!!!! His works prove that he followed the path of Satan.

Afghanistan is a make believe country and really is a patchwork of tribes and warlords. We need to quit pouring money and aid into Afghanistan and Pakistan. This would cripple both countries or regions and render them less potent. Of course, not giving aid to Afghanistan would involve pulling out of those regions, but we could still mount quick raids if we really felt the need to do so. Trying to occupy either of the two regions and perform nation building is a waste of time. Building better relations and backing the Indian military would put Pakistan in more of a bind so that they could not operate well in Afghanistan. China has been trying to get involved but they are finding the level of corruption ridiculously high and sense they are wasting their time and money.

Is Pakistan still supporting the Taliban like they always have?

No, Afghanistan will not become a secular democracy.
During Karzai’s term as Afghanistan’s presidency, it’s constitution was modified and formalize.
A description:
“The Constitution describes Islam as its sacred law and the most commonly practiced faith throughout Afghanistan’s vast country.
Followers of other religions are “free to exercise their faith and perform their religious rites” within the limits of the law. There is no mention of freedom of thought, and apostasy from Islam is punishable by death.”
Harold Armitage says
Afghanistan HAD a secular government until the stupid Yanks moved in and interfered just because it was a USSR supported government.
Afghanistan at that time had a massive tourist industry, thousands of European visited. Some even traveled overland.
Another bloodbath caused bythe pig- ignorant USA.
Muslim2018 says
Afghanistan ?? needs to be ruled by its rightful law – Islamic law (sharia). There should not be any talks except jihad (spiritual struggle) to dismantle the afghan security forces which is illegitimate as well as to drive out every single American soldier.
The struggle in Afghanistan is legitimate, the Americans are an aggressive occupying force they must be confronted.
The Taliban needs to ensure it avoids civilian casualties and where it has implemented sharia ensure that its womenfolk are given their rights sanctioned by sharia.
If Taliban implements sharia properly Afghanistan ?? will curb majority of its problems.
Once America falls in Afghanistan ?? and they will, it will boost the morale of the Muslims globally. The once “superpower” will be in the dustbin of history like the USSR.
So while I reject terrorism, murdering civilians whether he is Muslim or non Muslim so too I believe that a country invaded has a right to self determination and to defend itself.
Laura says
So Afghanistan has the right to, Taliban led, self determination, but Afghanis don’t have the right to that same self determination?
Muslim2018 says
Afghans were under sharia prior to American invasion, this is what they need to restore in their country.

Afghanistan was a Buddhist country. The muslims in Afghanistan are the descendants of the muslim “aggressive occupying force” that invaded the country.
Muslim2018 says
Buddhism has been destroyed when the people left paganism and adopted sharia for hundreds of years. The Taliban under their administration destroyed the biggest idol there.
So Afghanistan ?? needs to restore sharia which is the correct system by God for them.
Scorpio says
I couldn’t agree more with most of the comments. The Afghans just want their country back? Frankly these people have been fighting amongst themselves for millennia and are today no further forward than they were thousands of years ago.
They should be left alone to live their lives in the squalor of their own making; they are a useless people, they seem to have no resources except poppies used for the drug trade supporting silly buggers, particularly the junkies, who are even worse than the useless Afghans. By the way the same can be levelled at the Pakistanis! Get out! Get out!
So the sooner the West get out of the region the better.
