The establishment media sneered when President Trump recently noted poll results showing his popularity among Republicans, and stated that he was more popular than Lincoln. Forgotten, however, is the fact that Lincoln was quite unpopular as President, even for statements and actions for which he is now revered.
Elizabeth Lawson says
I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if Trump was much more popular than Lincoln. There is SUCH a huge disconnect between the achievements of President Trump, all the nonsense we hear emanating from Washington, and the propaganda tools of the Democratic Party, ( the media, for lack of a better word) AND the steadily rising approval rating of this President. The screaming, and most often profane and vulgar epithets emanating from the mouths of the haters, the low IQ folks who work in the beggars profession. (Emulating the conduct and speech/narrative of others) is madly funny. Do these emissaries from the casting couch really, seriously think that any sane person with a grade three education would listen to them?

The popular media has the arrogance to assert itself as the intelligentia of the country and they can dicatate to the whole nation including the presdient. Trump is the first president to call them out for what they are . They hate his guts and originality because even before the election began they had predictedd his demise. Kudos to Mr .Trump ,he will go down as one of the greatest presidents of America. God bless American and God bless Trump.

Very much what the current political climate needs: some historical perspective, well-provided in this video by Robert Spencer.

Yes, if the truth be known, Lincoln was not the icon they make him out to be. He was quite a racist, who believed whites are far superior to blacks. He wanted the black slaves sent back to africa (where muslims bought, captured, and sold them in the first place) and, apparently, he never freed any slaves.
Stephan Molyneaux gives his version of Lincoln in this vid – judge for yourself.
gravenimage says
Almost all white Americans of the day believed they were superior to blacks–even staunch abolitionists.
To believe that standing against slavery should be sneered at because abolitionists at the time were not as enlightened as modern Americans is absurd. They took a brave stance, and were far more moral than most of the people of their time.
Lincoln was a flawed man, as are all men–that does not mean that he was not a hero, nor that he did not advance the cause of human freedom more than pretty much any man who has ever lived.
How many of us can hope to leave legacies like his?

Bukkdems says
Why did America have to sacrifice 650K men to “end slavery” (but only in the South), when every other country in the Americas ended it without a war? There is a right way to do things and a wrong way. The arc of Christian history was ending slavery everywhere. Lincoln chose war with still in-surmounted fatalities and bankrupted half his country. “Reparations” was Yankees pillaging and raping. History belongs to the victors, and the victors made sure to further punish, deforest the South and turn every small farmer into a landless sharecropper. Although we paid that price, America is currently thought to be the ONLY country which had slaves. We suffer from the never-ending victimhood mentality. All thanks to that stupid, loathsome and ugly man.
Mark Swan says
The fact that the war was so hard fought should help you to
reason why it had to be.
The fact that it was fought to a whole and concluded with
secession being stopped, is conclusive enough to see that
the result was, right was brought about by might.
America as a United States of America had been preserved—
the Union as a whole was won—it is a good thing, this, the
world needed us to be whole and strong—to render the vital
help only This Great Nation could offer.
No one should attempt to deny the madness of war, to apply
too much praise or blame on any one man or fact, or refuse
to let history have its facts—but beyond that, let the result
speak for itself—it happened—how did it turn out.
The United States Of America Remains.

The idea that the United States only ended slavery in the South is absurd–it only existed in the South.
And that idea that slavery would have simply automatically disappeared without effort is not borne out. After all, slavery is still to this day rife in the Muslim world.
Pretending that the South seceded from the United States in order to end slavery is absurd–it was just the opposite.
And no–ending slavery is *not* loathsome and ugly.

Also note that Bukkdems puts “end slavery” in sneer quotes. *Ugh*.

Overman,
I like the video you cited. That video and The Truth About Slavery: Past, Present, and Future helped begin my odyssey of learning about Lincoln and slavery. Though I recommend the second video by the historian Molyneux, I couldn’t verify his connection of the rise of race based slavery in Europe to the Catholic church. I now have problems with his citations on Irish slavery in the US as well. Still, he does well in identifying a true hero of the world in ending slavery, William Wilberforce. Molyneux provides an overall interpretation of Lincoln and slavery that is realistic and healthy.

Donald Livingston, Thomas DiLorenzo, and Chris Calton help flesh out a better understanding of Lincoln than is likely to be attained through mainstream historians.
But a good understanding of Lincoln and slavery in the ending of slavery in the US should include a good foundation of understanding of Islam’s role in race based slavery. John Alembillah Azuma soars in his rigorous pursuit of truth on this topic in The Legacy of Arab-Islam in Africa.

This vid is a BEAUTY and many thanks for posting it. It just goes to show how VENGEFUL the Apostle of peace was whenever he was the weaker side and how he bid for his time to recoup and inflict the most diabolical cruelty on his enemies… And this would be the same Vengeance that the Islamic powers (Turkey, Arabia, Bangla, Pak, Indonesia,Malaysia and other smaller Islamic nation) harbor towards the militarily superior Greater West. GOD FORBID the day the Islam overcomes the Greater West militarily. The same monstrosities that Mohd committed would be replicated on the Khafirs with even greater ferocity. That is why it would behoove for the Greater West to completely de-fang these Islamic nations in all possible ways while they still have the upper-hand. It is still not too late..

Robert Spencer video: Trump May Really Be More Popular Than Lincoln Was
……………..
This is likely true.

I can bring out an AMAZING PARALLEL in Indian history. esp concerning the right-leaning patriotic Subhash Chandra Bose and the Leftist Nehru.. Those days, b4 the Indian Independence in 1947, the Congress, under the leadership of Nehru, succeeded in portraying Bose as a hot headed rebel and managed to completely isolate him and get him banished from the country, while Nehru slickly went on to become the PM of independent India and went on to enact 1 disastrous social lefty policy after another, the toxic effects of which India is seething under today. And yes, those day Nehru was the darling of the Indian media and the poster boy for the international media as well while Bose was pitifully ignored. BUT TODAY HISTORY HAS EXPOSED NEHRU VERY BADLY while Bose has regained immense adulation among current Indians…
byzantion says
Are we thinking of the same Subhash Chandra Bose?
It is true Bose has regained much support among Indians, but that is perhaps not a great victory considering he indulged in finding enemies of his enemy, Casting his lot in with Nazi Germany and Japan. He founded the Indian nationalist army that fought alongside Japan, and as far as anyone can tell died in a plane crash in 1945 in Japanese Taiwan. So it’s not like he would be running in an election against Nehru.
Reminds me I debated an Arab recently, a rabid jew hater who didn’t seem to mind all the muslims who cast their lot in with Nazi Germany, as did some Indian prisoners of war under the direct influence of Subhash Chandra Bose btw.
All that aside, Trump continues to break expectations. I doubt the leftists will allow him a place among the great presidents, but if they continue to write history there probably won’t be a history anyway.
infidel says
Bose’s hand was forced because of people like Nehru. He had to enlist the help of Germany and Japan. But he did that with only the intention of freeing India.. The positives far outweigh the negatives.
gravenimage says
I don’t think that Fascism is a “positive”.
But yes–many of Nehru’s policies were pretty harmful for India. Thank goodness she has jettisoned most of them at this point.
infidel says
I admit that Bose had some controversy regarding his associations but there were other leaders who were done the dirty by Nehru…

Interesting piece rhetorically. Not totally but on balance, Trump is a botch, bungle, and blunder. (Infrastructure, natural resources, immigration malpractice, cronyship, ignoring the electronic war against us, no explicit unfolding vision.) Leave the sex stories etc. out of it.
Therefore Mr. Spencer has to swerve away from the issue and grab way back for the example of Lincoln’s un-popularities at the time. The logic of this? “Heck another great leader earlier was reviled, so see, I guess that will, could, should happen this time also.”
To see this come from the pen of a literally great defender of America’s fundamental values (in his work on jihad etc.)–where would be without his unforgiving steady defending civilization….. well, strong psycho-political beliefs to be defended, can cause even a superb and dedicated thinker. (Another great counter-jihadist writes like going into battle–but then decries the “warmists” about climate change. And yet another then describes so-called “gay rights–or is it rites?–as:”A small group of individuals seeking to legitimize their sexual fetishes.”
I see it all the time. As in Leftists honestly working toward human-humane values–but simultaneously and naively unable to abide or even see the human situation of permanent evil.
So, seems we need both Left and Right “all depending.” (Admittedly, while good (not current) liberalism is vital to change a human society toward a more human-e one–it takes conservative practice to help keep that society existing safely in the first place. IMHO, my haughty opinion…
gravenimage says
Spencer never said that Trump is a greater president–or greater man–than Lincoln was. He is here factually defending Trump’s claim–widely unfairly sneered at–that he is more popular than Lincoln was.
