This is long overdue. Only among the “Palestinians” is “refugee” status passed down to children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Millions of people were displaced after World War II, but they moved elsewhere and got on with their lives. Not the “Palestinians,” because they were and are a weapon of the jihad.
“US seeks to end Palestinian ‘refugee’ status, redirect UN aid,” by Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News, August 6, 2018:
Jared Kushner, the US president’s senior adviser, and Republican lawmakers are discussing ways to end the Palestinians’ special refugee status and redirect UN aid.
The US executive and legislative branches are considering ways to put an end to the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), which supports millions of Palestinian refugees and their descendants in the Middle East, according to a Friday report in Foreign Policy.
In internal emails from January obtained by the global magazine, Jared Kushner, US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior advisor, writes, ” “It is important to have an honest and sincere effort to disrupt UNRWA…. This [agency] perpetuates a status quo, is corrupt, inefficient and doesn’t help peace.”
The report notes that Kushner discussed the refugee issue with Jordanian officials when he and Trump’s special negotiator, Jason Greenblatt, passed through the region in June to discuss their as-yet-unrevealed peace plan in various capitals. According to Palestinian officials, Kushner lobbied for Jordan to remove the refugee status of over two million registered Palestinians.
“[Kushner said] the resettlement has to take place in the host countries and these governments can do the job that UNRWA was doing,” the report quoted Hanan Ashrawi of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization as explaining. She called the the US initiative “a really irresponsible, dangerous decision.”
The US team suggested that the amount withheld from UNRWA could be contributed instead to other agencies that would supply humanitarian aid to Arabs in these countries.
This dire threat to UNRWA’s continued existence follows the US cut to the group’s budget by more than half in January, the shortfall of which has not been taken up by other contributing countries.
Already angered by that reduction in American aid, the Palestinian Authority (PA) slammed the Foreign Policy report in a statement on Saturday and warned against changing the “national” issue of refugees into an ordinary humanitarian one. This was in line, the statement added, with President Trump’s peace plan aiming to take away the Palestinian people’s “legitimate rights.”
Kushner’s ideas are being backed by Republican members of the House of Representatives.
As part of a bill introduced two weeks ago by Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-Co), “an alien who was firmly resettled in any country [would] not [be] eligible to retain refugee status” in terms of receiving aid from the US through UNRWA.
The UNRWA Reform and Refugee Support Act of 2018 would limit the US to assisting only the original refugees who had lost their “home and means of livelihood” as a result of the Arab-Israeli War of Independence in 1948 – as that was the stated purpose of the refugee organization when it was established.
It was only several years later that the eligibility requirements changed to include the refugees’ descendants, which meant that instead of the numbers steadily dropping as the years pass, they have jumped exponentially….
Mike says
Merge UNRWA with the “normal” UNHCR.
That should be the end-game.
Kepha says
The UNHCR can be pretty dense and useless as well.
Back in the 1980’s and early 1990’s, because the Royal Thai Government insisted that the Cambodians fleeing into its territory were displaced persons rather than refugees (semantic difference, I know), an agency called the United Nations Border Relief Operation was set up separate from UNRWA. It basically was there, present in the camps on the border, and staffed by a lot of Americans, helped by a number of international NGO, and did a decent job.
However, UNRWA wanted to merge it in, and pull its people aaway from the border and do everything from offices in downtown Bangkok. This was not done because the USA liked having an international organization there on the ground among the DP’s. It was a decision that I believe was right on our part, and it is a reason why I was not surprised when I heard that in the wake of the SE Asian tsunami, the UN people were dickering over hotel accommodations for their people months after the US and Australian navies had helped the local authorities get water, clothes, tent cities etc. set up shortly after the disaster struck.
However, I applaud this administration’s decision to call for a real solution to the Palestinian Arab refugee problem. But it really needs to involve getting the Arab states to naturalize people who have been resident in their countries for generations.

I don’t think the US can influence Muslims states to naturalize “Palestinians”, Kepha. The Muslim world has a huge stake in rendering these Mohammedans “permanent refugees”, not matter how absurd this is.

Hey, Ibrahim, YOU’RE WRONG … the Jordanians say EVERYTHING is Palestine.
Jordan is Palestine. Palestine is Jordan.
This is the royal sentiment of two kings of Jordan.
Let’s closely examine the facts of history from the Arab perspective, rather than the Jewish one, regarding Jordan and Palestine.
“Palestine and Jordan are one…” said King Abdullah in 1948.
“The truth is that Jordan is Palestine and Palestine is Jordan,” said King Hussein of Jordan, in 1981.
“Palestine is Jordan and Jordan is Palestine; there is only one land, with one history and one and the same fate,” Prince Hassan of the Jordanian National Assembly was quoted as saying on February 2, 1970.
Accordingly, Abdul Hamid Sharif, Prime Minister of Jordan declared, in 1980, “The Palestinians and Jordanians do not belong to different nationalities. They hold the same Jordanian passports, are Arabs and have the same Jordanian culture.”
In other words, Jordan is Palestine. Arab Palestine. There is absolutely no difference between Jordan and Palestine or between Jordanians and Palestinians (all are Arabs).
This fact is confirmed by several Arab rulers and scholars, who were either Jordanians or ‘Palestinans’.
“There should be a kind of linkage because Jordanians and Palestinians are considered by the PLO as one people,”according to Farouk Kaddoumi, then head of the PLO Political Department, who gave the statement to Newsweek on March 14, 1977.
Distinguished Arab-American Princeton University historian Philip Hitti testified before the Anglo-American Committee, “There is no such thing as ‘Palestine’ in history.”
According to Arab-American columnist Joseph Farah, “Palestine has never existed – before or since – as an autonomous entity. It was ruled alternately by Rome, by Islamic and Christian crusaders, by the Ottoman Empire, and briefly by the British after World War I. The British agreed to restore at least part of the land to the Jewish people as their homeland. There was no language known as Palestinian. There was no distinct Palestinian culture. There has never been a Palestine governed by the Palestinians. Palestinians are Arabs, indistinguishable from Jordanians (another recent invention), Syrians, Lebanese, Iraqis, etc.”
These authoritative, honest statements are by Arabs, Jordanians and Palestinians , and should be taken at their face value. How about the following historical facts?
* Jews, not Arabs, have lived continuously in the ancient Biblical Promised Land of Israel, especially Judea and Samaria, for 3,700 years. This land was given as a gift by G-d to the Children of Israel (Hebrews, Israelites, Jews) and is so stated in all of the three monotheistic religions’ holy books – Old Testament, New Testament and Quran. Faithful followers of Judaism, Christianity and Islam all believe in the same one G-d and therefore must believe the word of their G-d. G-d does not make and break his promises. There is a very valuable lesson to be learned by all his children and faithful followers.
* The current queen of Jordan is an Arab ‘Palestinian’.
* Approximately half of Jordan’s prime ministers since 1950 have been Arab ‘Palestinians’.
* More than 2/3 of the Jordanian people are Arab ‘Palestinians’.
* The majority of citizens residing in the capital of Amman are Arab ‘Palestinians’.
* Arab ‘Palestinians’ constitute not less than one half of the members of the armed forces, according to the late King Hussein, as broadcast on Amman Radio February 3, 1973.
* The majority of other security forces are Arab ‘Palestinians’.
* Jordan occupies 77% of the original Palestine Mandate (originally promised to the Jewish people). The population density of Jordan is less than 61 people per square mile leaving lots of room to absorb many more of their brethren and cousins.
Want to delve even deeper? Let’s explore further. We all need to refresh our memory, as ‘short-term syndrome’ has taken over. Now for a little history lesson, for those who do not recall the reality of the past. The British tried to placate the Arabs by giving them part of the land designated under the Palestine Mandate (originally allocated under the Balfour Declaration for the establishment of a Jewish homeland). Britain created an entirely new province by severing 77% of historic Palestine (and an additional 3% was also allocated to Syria), on the eastern bank of the Jordan River (some 35,000 square miles), and establishing the state of Transjordan.
Faisal, who had been King of Syria, was deposed by the French, so the British offered him the throne of Iraq, which he accepted. Faisal’s brother Abdullah was installed as the new nation of Transjordan’s ruler on April 1, 1921 (April Fool’s Day), thereby completing the appeasement of Arab rulers.
During the Arab-Israeli war of 1948, in which nine Arab nations attacked Israel, they took control of the ancient biblical territories of Judea and Samaria (Jewish territory, which was “occupied” for nineteen years until 1967, when it was liberated and reconquered in yet another defensive war).
On April 24, 1950, Abdullah formally merged all of Arab-held Palestine with Transjordan and granted citizenship to all Arab residents and settlers (the vast majority of whom arrived the 1920s for economic reasons).
The Hashemite Kingdom was no longer only across the river so the prefix “Trans” (meaning “across”) was dropped, and henceforth, the land became known as Jordan, i.e., Arab Palestine.
Remember, ibrahim, Jordan is Palestine. Palestine is Jordan.
Ibrahim itace muhammed says
mortimer, If we agree with your logic relying on what the king said that Jordan and Palestine are one, then the whole Palestine (comprising Palestinian territory and that of fascist evil Zionist state of Israel) are part of Jordan, because both mithraist christian Byzantines and British colonialists treated Jordan and Palestine as one colony before indepencedance from Britain.

Ibrahim,
I have some suggestions for self-improvement:
Take a course in English grammar.
Use a spellchecker on your postings.
Use evidence-based logic in your postings.
Your postings also suggest that you are angry and unhappy. This is at least partly due to your Islamic faith. You would undoubtedly feel a lot better if you left this religion entirely. At the very least, try it for a month and see how you feel. What do you have to lose?

This is like Ibrahim itace muhammed’s saying that the US trying to keep out Jihadists is “genocide” of Muslims.
And yes–you can see how upset he is over the idea of losing all that Infidel money by his wildly spamming this thread with the same unhinged comments.

Hanan Ashrawi is a loudmouth who has been threatening as far back as arafat, or shortly thereafter.
These leeches see their living high on the hog about to end and so they “threaten.” Quote: “a really irresponsible, dangerous decision.” Dangerous to her pocketbook and whatever locals can be targeted for death by terror.
If the original “refugee” plan had been followed, there would be very few getting money now. 1948 was 70 years ago, and even the kids born that year are elderly and likely their parents are already dead.

Well, good for the US, – who can now use this money for something that has some actual worth – but unfortunately it is likely that European nations like Sweden and Germany will now increase their contributions to make up for the loss of US aid…
Frank Anderson says
Mockingjay, wouldn’t it be precious if local “responsibilities” arriving recently drain the European nations’ ability to fork over money to the multi-generational “refugees” in “Palestine”? “Limited resources for unlimited desires!” “How many lawyers does it take to change a light bulb?” “How many can you afford?” How many “refugees” can you afford?

Islam is a big lie. According to the quran in 67:5 “stars are missiles to shoot the devil” and not what they really are, huge suns. The quran has nothing scientific. In 41:12 it talks about 7 heaven, the old pagan belief that the universe was divided in 7 heavens. Today muslims try to say that “it is only referring to the 7 layers of the atmosphere”, but 41:12 says also that “the stars are locted in the closest heaven”
