Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Washington Post hits Trump for “strong-arming” Erdogan over imprisoned pastor, praises Erdogan as “unbowed”

Aug 20, 2018 8:19 pm By Robert Spencer

The Post also wrote: “But Erdogan’s ability to benefit from the crisis has raised questions about whether Trump underestimated the Turkish leader, a ‘nimble tactician’ who is convinced that Western powers are bent on crippling Turkey because of its status as a strong Muslim nation.”

It doesn’t matter to the Post that Erdogan is busy dismantling Turkish secularism, or that he had Turkish mosques call for jihad as his military moved against the Kurds. They don’t care that he has laid claim to the lands once ruled by the Ottoman Empire. They don’t care how repressive or aggressive he is. He is against Trump, and that makes him the Washington Post’s friend, no matter what.

“WaPo Says Trump ‘Strong-Arming’ Turkish Islamist President Erdogan. Then It Offers This Description Of Erdogan,” by Hank Berrien, Daily Wire, August 20, 2018:

The Washington Post, in a seeming effort to undermine President Trump, published a story on Sunday night in which Trump’s efforts to get Turkey to release a detained American pastor were referred to as “strong-arming,” while Turkish Islamist President Recip [sic] Erdogan’s resistance was limned as heroically “unbowed.”

The Post wrote Trump initiated “market-rattling economic sanctions and humiliating public rebukes” but “Erdogan, for the moment, appears unbowed.”

The Post opines that Erdogan has used Trump’s aggressive posture to rally domestic support to his side, thus vitiating the anger against him for Turkey’s failing economy. The Post delightedly quotes Erdogan huffing that Turkey “will not surrender to those who act like a strategic partner but make us a strategic target.”…

No matter, the Post has Erdogan’s back: “But Erdogan’s ability to benefit from the crisis has raised questions about whether Trump underestimated the Turkish leader, a ‘nimble tactician’ who is convinced that Western powers are bent on crippling Turkey because of its status as a strong Muslim nation, said Lisel Hintz, a professor of international relations at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies.”

The Post gleefully quotes Hintz bloviating, “Trump has played exactly into Erdogan’s hands.”…

There was nothing in the newspaper’s article which was in anyway surprising. In fact it was a typical response one might expect here in Britain from any of our MSM.There is nothing but appeasement that will satisfy these pathetic liberal cowards.Erdogan will back down because he knows Trump will not..Trumps cause is virtuous. He has ‘right’on his side and thank God most Americans know it.

Let us put things in perspective here:

Turkey (Erdogan) has been America’s friend and a Nato ally (and still is) and has even gone along with America’s crazed regime-change plans in Syria a few years ago by allowing and facilitating tens of thousands of US, Nato and Saudi-backed international islamic jihadist mercenaries from around the world to invade Syria through its long border with Turkey. This has gone on 2011-2016 while all the while, Erdogan faithfully kept repeating the US-made mantra that “Assad must go”! Turkey has even shot down a Russian war plane that was aiding the Syrian army and bombing jihadists near the Turkish border! However, Erdogan changed his course in 2016 when he was stabbed at the back by his US, Nato ally by orchestrating and almost succeeding a Gulenist-Islamist Coup against Erdogan! That is when Turkey changed its course and realized the fact that the back-stabbing, pro-jihadist America cannot be trusted and that they should do whatever is right for their country and anyone who is suggesting that Erdogan has to roll over and take in everything that the duplictious, back-stabbing US has to throw at him is indeed wrong and lives a detached, fantasy world!

O’ save me the crap! You are talking like US governments hate islamists and islamization of the world while the undeniable fact is, successive US governments support islamists, including islamist jihadists like they did in Afghanistan, in Bosnia, in Kosovo, in Libya, Egypt, Yemen and Syria! In fact, the islamist tyrant who is the de-facto ruler of Saudi Arabia, (which is the closest US ally in the islamic world) said recently that Saudi Arabia and oil-rich Gulf states spent trillions of dollars spreading Wahhabism at the behest of the West. Christianblood *still* has not expressed any concern for this pastor–he is just saying that those who express concern for him somehow don’t care either.

And I suppose the latter is his Christianblood’s frequent claim that ISIS is actually run by the US, and has nothing to do with Islam.

The truth is that it is the US that is the main force that drove ISIS out of their “Caliphate” territory–and this actually has made Christians in the region considerably safer.

Most American “conservatives” couldn’t tell you who Trotsky was, let alone the nuances of his views. Frankly, anyone who can is maybe too close to the trees to see the forest and doesn’t really understand American conservatives at all.

      • Mockingjay says

        Aug 21, 2018 at 7:45 pm

Christianblood – I’m not really interested in having a semantic-philosophical discussion about what freedom ”really is”, because here it will suffice to determine what freedom IS NOT.

ISLAM IS NOT FREEDOM – I think we should be able to agree on that?

        – Now since mr. Erdogan is a true islamist, he represents the opposite of freedom, and ANY newspaper in the West taking his side is beyond redemption. Not even the leftist newspapers of Europe would try going there. The fact that an american paper WILL, is UNBELIEVABLE as well as simply inexcusable.

So? Will they be voting in the 2020 election of POTUS? Why should the US care if Turkey rallies to Erdogan; Turkey will just be more likely to be expelled from NATO, a good outcome. Does the WaPo have a secret unrevealed desire to make Erdogan Caliph? Do they think a New Caliphate won’t come looking for their necks before Trump?

“Trump has played exactly into Erdogan’s hands.”… For Erdgan to do what? Remove Turkey from the modern world?

For being a political news organization the WaPo certainly picks the wrong “winners”. You dodos at WaPo still don’t understand why Trump was elected. We want disrespect for the US to have consequences and never again experience the limp-wristed hand-wringng weak POTUS denigration of America flowing from Carter, Obama, and now Cuomo.

There must be consequences for holding US ctizens hostage and Trump is the real man, flaws and all, to deliver it.

    1. There are those who make things happen,
    2. Those who watch what happens, and,
    3. Those who can’t figure out what happened.

    1. Are real leaders, 2. Are newspapers and universities, and, 3. Are those who believe 2. have any real life experience at making things happen.

What crap from “Brian hoff”–really, “DefenderofIslam”. This attempted coup was classic for Turkey, where the army takes out a leader who is out of control. The only difference here is that they did not succeed in taking out the dictator. This had nothing to do with the US, and nothing to do with this peaceful pastor. In fact, Erdogan himself sees to be dropping that claim, and just sneeringly refers to him as a “priest”.

He obviously doesn’t realize that Erdogan’s Turkey offered to cough up the Pastor in exchange for releasing sanctions on its banks and the US has refused. The screws are being felt by Erdogan. Calling that 0 for 3 is quite uninformed.

Why shouldn’t the WaPo take this tack? Turkey jailed an Evangelical Christian pastor who, in the view of the WaPo editorial staff, is the most despicable form of animal life available (fire-breathing mullahs, on the other hand, are champions of “Third World liberation and dignity”, it seems).

Back in the late 1970’s, the WaPo was instrumental in using the Iranian hostage crisis to create a panic about an international, interfaith “fundamentalist” plot to undermine all goodness and beauty (I left out truth, since our MSM is now in the hands of post-modernists, who don’t believe in it). And, when they saw that criticism of Islam could get media and entertainment people killed, they deftly decided that it was enough to attack and dehumanize “fundamentalist” Christians.

They will eagerly slit our throats and the throats of future generations, just to get their bag of candy or to make themselves *feeeeeel* better. The debate ended for me, a long time ago. In 2009. When one of those islammunist beasts threw a cup of urine in my face. Prior to that moment, I was polite, courteous and respectful during debate. Having urine thrown in my face changed me forever. There is no living being that I despise more than islammunists, and I make sure they know it each and every time the opportunity presents itself.

They’ve demonstrated their allegiance. With no ambiguity whatsoever.

It may be worth mentioning that the author of the Washington Post article is one Kareem Fahim, the Bureau chief in Istanbul. Maybe he got lazy and asked for the Turkey state media to write his article for him.

    Kareem Fahim
Istanbul bureau chief covering the Middle East

Education: Occidental College, bachelor’s degree in Diplomacy and World Affairs; Columbia University, SIPA, master’s degree in International Affairs

Kareem Fahim has served as the Istanbul bureau chief and a Middle East correspondent for The Washington Post since September 2016. Previously, he worked for 11 years as a staff reporter for the New York Times, with assignments on the metro desk and as a Cairo-based foreign correspondent reporting on the Arab uprisings and their aftermath.

Fahim attended Occidental College in Los Angeles, and Columbia University’s graduate School of International and Public Affairs. He grew up in Palo Alto, Calif., and in Kuwait.
