Nassim Abdi is not an “extremist.” A hadith depicts Muhammad saying: “If a husband calls his wife to his bed [i.e. to have sexual relation] and she refuses and causes him to sleep in anger, the angels will curse her till morning” (Bukhari 4.54.460).
Another hadith attributes this to Muhammad: “By him in whose hand lies my life, a woman can not carry out the right of her Lord, till she carries out the right of her husband. And if he asks her to surrender herself [to him for sexual intercourse] she should not refuse him even if she is on a camel’s saddle” (Ibn Majah 1854).
“EXCLUSIVE: ‘He’s preaching something that’s illegal’: Outrage at Muslim preacher’s ‘repugnant’ views that it’s a ‘major SIN’ for a wife to refuse her husband’s demands for sex,” by Stephen Johnson, Daily Mail Australia, September 11, 2018 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):
Feminists and the NSW Attorney General have expressed concern after a Sydney Muslim preacher declared it was a ‘major sin’ for a wife to refuse sex with her husband.
Nassim Abdi, a fundamentalist Sunni, told an Auburn mosque in the city’s west a woman would be ‘cursed’ by angels for withholding marital intimacy.
‘If the husband calls the wife to be intimate and there’s no legitimate reason for the woman to say no, then she must answer the call of her husband,’ he said on Friday night.
‘She must answer the call of her husband and if not she has committed a major sin.
‘If the man calls the wife to bed and she refuses, the angels curse this woman and he sleeps with her whilst he’s angry, the angels curse her until she wakes up.’
Mr Abdi preaches a seventh-century fundamentalist version of Salafist Islam from Saudi Arabia with the Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaah Association, which also advocates aspects of Sharia law.
Long-time feminist Eva Cox described him as a ‘nutter’, while stressing Islam was not the only religion with fundamentalists who disrespected women’s rights.
‘Somebody needs to inform the preacher that he’s preaching something which is illegal,’ she told Daily Mail Australia.
‘Preaching something which is illegal maybe should be banned.
‘I’m sorry we’ve got these nutters.’…

christianblood, civilised people recognise when ancient laws have passed their ‘Use By’ date. It takes a while sometimes, but eventually we get there. Marital rape has been outlawed in Western jurisdictions for decades.
Mac-101 says
I’ll stick up for Christian blood this time. No where in this passage is force mentioned.
.
It is still basically good sound advise. If one of the two parties is NOT gittin what they want for an extended time, then Satan will tempt them and we ALL know what dat leads to.
StellaSaidSo says
True, Mac, but my point was more to do with the civil law supplanting religious tradition, which has happened in the West, but not in Islam. The law relating to rape in marriage was introduced because many married women (especially Catholic women) complained that they were routinely subjected to unwanted sexual encounters, a situation which was often ‘justified’ (by both husbands and clerics) by reference to the Bible. Until the 1960s, if memory serves correctly, the Christian marriage service included the injunction that the wife ‘obey’ her husband.
Mac-101 says
Can’t argue dat.
Salome says
From context and language, it would appear that what is being referred to here is some form of fasting from carnal pleasures. Elsewhere there is plenty about husbands treating their wives’ bodies as if they were their own (I.e., with due consideration, not merely as property), and of the husband being to his wife as Christ was to His Church—I.e., sacrificial in love. So-called Christians who think they have an absolute right to nookie on demand are getting it wrong. On the other hand, there is an expectation that marriage will be consummated.
SJ says
No…what does DAT mean? That the woman will go out and cheat? As for the men that the woman are sometimes forced to marry one can imagine that it may be difficult to wake up in the night to please this pig! Love is different. This is not love.
christianblood says
Mac-101
Please don’t misunderstand me, Mac!
I did not mean the biblical passage I quoted was alluding to rape or forced sexuality. I meant to contrast what the muslim imam said to the holy teachings of the bible when it comes to sexual relations between a married husband and wife!
Mac-101 says
SJ, Dat means Dat. Who do you think ALL dem Men Pigs are scroggin? It takes two to tango. I personally believe more women cheat on their husbands than men.
.
Not because men are more virtuous, but because it is so much easier for a women to git a little extra. Those men that do cheat git around a whole lot more and more frequent than the women who do cheat. For some reason many women are drawn to a smaller group of men for the life of me which I can NOT figure out why. If I could capture it and bottle it I’d be a Billionaire. LOL!
.
Also it does appear to me that men’s testosterone and desire for sex is drastically decreasing in the USA. I know as many women complaining about their men not interested as I do men complaining about their women not bein interested. This was practically unheard of 40 years ago. Just my opinion. However, I did read last week than men’s testosterone is down 60% from 30 years ago.
Mac-101 says
Christian Blood. I understood the passage and it’s implication. It is pretty straight forward I would think, and supports what you say/meant. A man and a women are meant to be husband and wife and share ALL within reason and practicality.
j_not_a says
That scripture meant both husband and wife abstaining from sex by mutual agreement such as during the wife’s period, for a time required after childbirth, in today’s time, after surgery, etc. I see nothing in it about coercion frrom either spouse, just love, thoughtfulness, and common sense.

I agree with you in principal but in the view of an Orthodox cultural context, we bit differ on the issue on the “marital rape”. In the East, we think the issue of “marital rape” in the West is exaggerated and taken out of its context by radical feminist ideologues that exists in the West! In Orthodox societies, the situation is not as black and white as its in the West and the issue of “marital rape” is hardly known in societies! Australia: Muslim preacher says its a “major sin” for wife to refuse husband’s demands for sex
…………………………
Disgusting–but this is mainstream Islam.
Rich says
It is a “major sin” [mortal sin] also in Catholicism for a spouse (husband or wife] to refuse their partner sex without a serious reason. I get it, Islam is evil and utterly misogynistic, no argument there. I agree wholeheartedly and I am not trolling here. But whenever this topic comes up, I like to remind any Catholic married person who might be reading that they have a grave obligation to “fulfill the marriage debt” whenever it is [reasonably] requested. Without giving a two-hour lecture here, suffice it to say that in the Catholic understanding of holy matrimony the “usus” of the body of each spouse is precisely what is “contracted for” in the rite. In brief, the two persons [male and female] have given themselves to each other in every way *except* physically/sexually before marriage. The marriage covenant [sacred contract/agreement before God] is that henceforth they WILL give up their own bodies for the enjoyment [“usus”, “use” in English sounds horrible] of the other person whenever it is reasonably asked for.
Shorthand: when you get married [in the Catholic Church at least] the understanding is that you WILL have sex with your lawful spouse WHENEVER they ask for it, provided you do not have a serious reason to deny the request (e.g. illness, monthly menses, inability, etc). Too many Catholics are ignorant of this fact and enter into marriage thinking they can say no “whenever they want”. In point of fact, that is WRONG. That’s what you “gave up” when you got married (i.e. the right, without serious reason, to DENY your spouse the “marriage debt”, the “usus” of your body). Many moderns believe they can “say no” for any reason at all, and it is simply is not the case. For a Catholic married person to deny their spouse sex without a serious reason is definitely “grave matter”, the first of the three conditions of a mortal sin.
gravenimage says
Marital rape is not OK in Catholicism; it is in Islam, though.
WPM says
Also wife beating ,honor killing of female relatives ,FGM , having 4 wives , girls of the right hand ect. all get the seal of approval in Islamic teaching and acceptable behavior.. The wife saying she does not feel like it tonight is not a “grave mortal sin” anywhere in Catholic doctrine. Rape ,force sex on any person ,violence against a spouse is look as a grave sin in the Catholic church. The Catholic church has many problems today, it has never to my knowledge promoted violence or rape towards wives of Catholic men. Or promoted violence to end disagreements between husband and wife in legal marriage.
gravenimage says
Spot on, WPM.
Rich says

isabellathecrusader says
Well, along with that Catholics are expected to not impede the marital act in any way and keep every act open to producing a child. But modern Catholics forget that part, too. However, any Catholic that is truly practicing their religion would never beat the crap out of a spouse for refusing sex. Islam exclusively owns that one.
Rich says
Non-sequitur. My goodness, you people are stupid. Who TF said anything about “beat the crap out of a spouse”?

The whole point of religion is to control women. Telling a woman she has to have sex with you because God tells her to allows men who can’t attract women to have compliant sex.
