Lauren Baer says she has changed her views now. Maybe she has. But what she wrote back then is a standard and widely held view, especially on the Left. There is, as far as the Left is concerned, no jihad; Muslims are just passive reactors to the evil U.S. that is responsible for provoking them. The idea that some Muslims might hate the West for reasons of their own, apart from the supposed evil deeds of the U.S. and Israel, never occurs to those who hold this view.
“US response to 9/11 was ‘moment of hypocrisy,’ former Obama official running for Congress wrote,” by Lukas Mikelionis, Fox News, September 13, 2018:
Lauren Baer, a former State Department adviser in the Obama administration, is running for Congress in Florida. She once penned an article claiming the U.S. response to the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks was a “moment of hypocrisy.”
A former Obama administration official running for a U.S. House seat in Florida once penned an article claiming the U.S. response to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks was a “moment of hypocrisy.”
Lauren Baer, who worked for the State Department under both Hillary Clinton and John Kerry, also criticized the country’s “shameful history” while hoping the attack, which killed nearly 3,000 people, would make America more “humble and humane.”
Baer, a Democrat, is now running for Congress in Florida’s 18th District against incumbent U.S. Rep. Brian Mast, a Republican. The district is along the state’s Atlantic coast, north of Miami….
Baer’s writings came during her years at Harvard University, when she worked for the Harvard Crimson, a student-run publication. Her column titled “From Hypocrisy to Humanity” appeared Oct. 10, 2001 – just a month after the attacks….
“Some people speak of wanting an America to emerge from these events that is stronger and more proud,” Baer wrote. “I wish to see an America emerge that is humbler and more humane.”
She then wrote that America had a “shameful history” when it comes to standing up for its values.
“At the same time that America calls on the world to ardently preserve our sacred values, it must live up to a shameful history of having so rarely stood up for those values itself,” the now-Democratic candidate wrote.
Baer went on to minimize the significance of terror attacks against the U.S., criticizing those saying the attacks against the U.S. were an “attack on the world.” In her view, “every day the world is plagued by more mundane battles” and those are “just as much an affront to justice as were the events on Sept. 11.”
“By the rhetoric of an attack on American values anywhere being an attack on security everywhere, they should have warranted a meaningful U.S. response,” Baer wrote. “But the U.S. response to these atrocities was meager, if it existed at all.”…

A Stupid and uninformed, uncaring public (democrats) will waste their vote on this very un American candidate.
Things people say and write will sometimes come back and bite them in the butt. That she was at Harvard when she wrote this piece about the great country that gave her the right to do so, Speaks loads.

I agree. When we answered Saudi Aribia’s invation to their country to free Kawiat from the invasion by Iraq that was exactly what it was a invation not a invasion by NATO forces.

One should ask this moron what did the Indians do for last 1400 years that Muslims came all the way from Arabia and Afghanistan to attack India?? Nothing – it is pure terrorism that Muslims have done since that time. So much for the “passive reactors” who attack every human being all over the world!! There is no dearth of morons in this country!

Too bad she was not a victim of the 9/11.

Typical shameless uninformed lefty lady ranting as if she knows everything… Needless to say.. a product of the POISON IVY LEAGUES… left garbage.. I have such people in my own kith and kin. Their arrogance belies belief..

She’s a Jewish lesbian from Florida. Jews often claim that anti-Zionism is just a socially acceptable form of anti-Semitism. I agree with this but there is a mirror image of this pathology. Among diaspora Jews, exaggerated concern for alleged human rights violations by the US or UK is just a socially acceptable way of expressing their loathing of Christians and Christianity. This woman fits the mold perfectly.

You are mistaken–most Jewish people do *not* excuse the horrors of 9/11, nor blame it on the United States.
Janwaar Bibi says
I was referring to hyper-critical diaspora Jews like Chomsky, Zinn, Sontag and this woman, not all Jews. There are so many of them that there has to be a common underlying pathology.
Kepha says
Jews are all over the American political spectrum. As opposed to the likes of Chomsky, Zinn, Sontag, and the candidate mentioned in the post, there are the editors and contributors of _Commentary_, much of the neocon movement, numerous Jews serving in the armed services, and even younger people who were formerly of the Leftist persuasion but have been, as man of us say, “mugged by reality.”
gravenimage says
There are definitely some Jews like this–sadly, plenty of Gentile dhimmis, as well.
Janwaar Bibi says
sadly, plenty of Gentile dhimmis as well
My fellow Hindus are prime examples of this – we have 1,300 years of experience with Islam but our intellectuals still want to import millions of Rohingya into India! The pathology there is something different,I think – it’s some sad combination of Stockholm syndrome and self-hatred.

I would challenge this brilliant politician to list, in her opinion, which countries (and name their fundamental ideologies) that have a more humane record, against the context prevalent at the time, than the United States.
And I would challenge any of these progressive/leftist/statist politicians to accept debating their principals against one of the several constitutional conservatives who extend open invitations who extend invitations to such politicians. Look at Obama. He was twisted in a knot to condemn Winston Churchill for being a “colonialist”, when his daddy was a communist…and they certainly were colonialists. And his muslim faith, with the muslims colonizing much of the world in their jihadist heyday. Whatever her excuse, I don’t think that Lauren has the guts to debate whatever it is that she believes in. I can only hope that the folks in the district she is running in can spot sublime ignorance when it presents itself.

……………………
Muslims murdering us is supposed to humble us? And does she consider these Jihadists “humane”? *Ugh*.
Has she changed? Or does she just realize that most Americans are not fond of this self-hating moral idiocy?

Lauren Baer seems to be another viciously sanctimonious modern progressive.

A snarling dope running on the left? Color me shocked.

Perhaps Lauren Bauer’s underlying intent is to recant her initial statement to mollify potential voters other than democrats to vote for her. As I understand the voting is roughly split at 45% either side with 10% undecided voters. In this case, it may be that she is posturing to that constituency. It is clear from this scenario and that of her lifestyle that she holds firm to certain ideas- one of them not to differentiate between humans. Thus, I would aver that her retraction may only be temporary and that 9\11 was basically quid pro quo “what the Crusaders have done…”
gravenimage says
I think even a lot of Democrats would be disgusted by her statement.

Western Leftists hate the West because they are guilt-ridden moral perfectionists with no sense of proportion. Islamic jihadists hate the West because it is a superior civilization built by infidels, putting their own failed states to shame.
Jewish Leftists who join the hate-the-West bandwagon are helping undermine one of the only systems that has ever afforded them adequate legal protections.

She thinks her love ones, her co-workers ,people in her party could never be killed by Islamic terrorist ?She thinks her libtard bubble talk will defend and shield her and her love ones from Islamic hate. This logic you see make the news every few years when some mentally ill person climbs into the bear pit in some zoo to play and hug the bears. It is just on a much greater scale people embrace this mental illness as a political movement ,we see it with the current Pope , we see it with many leaders in Europe , we see it as the new face of the democratic party. It crosses the color ,race , religious , political party lines ,they all think they can frolic and hug the bears without getting mauled! Bears being bears do not lie about who they are and what they are capable of doing. Islam by its actions ,stated attentions to murder, rape, slavery ,intolerance in its books and 1400 year track record are much more dangerous then bears.
Lorensacho says
Baer’s statement was nuts and insensitive, but at least she wasn’t part of the group that lied about WMD in order to invade Iraq resulting in the destabilization of the Middle East not to mention ending up costing close to a million lives.

Haven’t muslims been attacking the world civilisations for 1400 years? The States is only 242 years old, so really any country that has freedom triggers the islam. Also, I really get the feeling that Jews are their own worst enemies. Along with “feel good Christians”.
“would make America more “humble and humane.” Excuse me America is humane, but there is absolutely NO reason to be humble!!
I agree with WPM and fredoniahead.
