This is a major setback for human rights in general and women’s rights in particular, and the only coverage is in a letter to the editor. And so we don’t know why the Connecticut Senate rejected this bill, but it is likely that it was lobbied by certain constituencies that argued that it would be “Islamophobic.” FGM is mandated in Islamic law: “Circumcision is obligatory (for every male and female) (by cutting off the piece of skin on the glans of the penis of the male, but circumcision of the female is by cutting out the bazr ‘clitoris’ [this is called khufaadh ‘female circumcision’]).” — Umdat al-Salik e4.3, translated by Mark Durie, The Third Choice, p. 64
Why is it obligatory? Because Muhammad is held to have said so: “Abu al- Malih ibn Usama’s father relates that the Prophet said: ‘Circumcision is a law for men and a preservation of honour for women.’” — Ahmad Ibn Hanbal 5:75
“Narrated Umm Atiyyah al-Ansariyyah: A woman used to perform circumcision in Medina. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to her: ‘Do not cut severely as that is better for a woman and more desirable for a husband.’” — Abu Dawud 41:5251
That hadith is classified as weak, but this one is classified as sahih (reliable): “Aishah narrated: ‘When the circumcised meets the circumcised, then indeed Ghusl is required. Myself and Allah’s Messenger did that, so we performed Ghusl.’” — Jami` at-Tirmidhi 108
If Muhammad had the genitals of his favorite wife, Aisha, mutilated, that is a strong endorsement of the practice from the man who is an “excellent example” (Qur’an 33:21) for Muslims.
“A Law Against Female Genital Mutilation,” by Kristine Cheruk, Hartford Courant Letters to the Editor, August 13, 2018 (thanks to Creeping Sharia):
An important bill died in the legislature this year, “An Act Prohibiting Female Genital Mutilation.” Senate Bill 190 would have made it a Class D felony, punishable by up to five years in prison, to perform female genital mutilation on a person under 18.
FGM is outlawed federally, and 26 other states in the United States also ban it. Connecticut needs to join them to put this terrible practice on the radar of schools, clinics, courts and police. Connecticut lawmakers need a zero-tolerance law banning FGM to protect young women and girls.
FGM is a barbaric procedure, affecting up to 140 million women and girls worldwide. Alarmingly, the Population Reference Bureau indicates that 2,658 women and girls are at risk in Connecticut.
FGM is a human rights violation and a terrible crime against girls and women. The time is now to prevent FGM and stand with victims.

I read that organizations run by Muslim women have been trying to influence policy on FGM, claiming it is just a “harmless tradition”? Are these the people legislators are listening to?

Yes.

Notice FGM is banned only by 26 states (I’ll bet you one of them isn’t Minnesota): This means legislatures in other states are hiding under the bed when it comes to this issue. And it may be federally banned, but how often are any of these bans enforced?
Never.
Make no mistake: The same thing is happening here in the U.S. as the EU and the UK: intimidation of lawmakers, and gradual subjugation. This is a stealth invasion, and if is happening through legal immigration, particularly the “refugee” resettlement industry, and “asylum” laws. This numbers game is where the primary battleground is.
Sure, Trump lowered the cap to 30,000 and started taking in Christian refugees, and this is a step in the right direction, but the cap needs to be lowered to zero, and these laws must be enforced.
With skyrocketing birth rates of muslim arrivals, the persistent efforts of lobbying groups like CAIR and ISNA to gradually implement sharia, and the demasculization of boys and indoctrination of our native-born children into nonsensical “transgender” and “LGBTQ” roles, the devil’s work is indeed afoot.

I wish we were wrong. But it is SO Obvious I can NOT see how one can NOT conclude that it is NOT the intentional policy of the Elites!

The elites have gone real nuts. The leftists want the subjugation of entire humanity through jihadists because idealogically they are practically broken. If the entire human race, especially non-muslims, don’t wake up in time then it is certain to develop into doomsday for all civilised and liberty loving people!May Allmighty save us from the imminent perdition and devastation!

The Nuh Ha Mim Keller translations states;
e4.3 Circumcision is obligatory (0: for both
men and women. For men it consists of removing
the prepuce from the penis, and for women,
removing the prepuce (Ar. bazr) of the clitoris (n:
not the clitoris itself, as some mistakenly assert).
(A: Hanbalis hold that circumcision of women is
not obligatory but sunna, whileHanafis consider it
a mere courtesy to the husband.)
As with certain other rules the translator has chose to tone down the original legal obligation. However it is the difference between the Schools that is most interesting. Umdat As-Salik, as far as I can tell was primarily used as the “civil law” code in lands shared with non-muslims [Dhar al-Suhl] either those under assault or being assaulted. Thus only in foreign lands was cutting off the full clitoris required it seems. This may have been because the practice already existed (in those lands) or a cynical act employed to ensure women raised in those lands were sexually maligned and therefore less attractive to potential opponents. Is this a possibility does anyone know?

“Bazr” means clitoris, not prepuce.

If genitalia are as much a product of Allah’s divine creation as his immutable Quran is, where do arrogant humans get the idea they are obliged to alter his perfect design?
Did Allah realize he had made a mistake and issued recall?
Circumcision, much like cattle branding, has its origins in purposes of group identity, slavery, and ownership.
We humans are such a silly bunch.

Isn’t maiming another person a crime anyway? If I cut off someone’s arm or disembowel someone, I get arrested and charged with a felony. Is this not the case? Then why is it not already a crime to mutilate females by FGM? What am I missing here? Anyone convicted of FGM should have their hands cut off. Males should have their genitalia removed as well. This 5 years in jail business is laughable!

I was shocked that this didn’t pass, therefore I checked the Connecticut Senate. If up to date which it appears to be it consists of 36 members: 18 Democrats, 18 Republican. What is interesting if you break it down by gender. 27 men of which 11 are Democrates and 16 are Republicians. 9 women, 7 are Democrats and 2 are Republican.
What this article missed stating was the voting. Was it tight, or was it rejected by a large margin. When you have 27 men and only 9 women voting on a 100% female topic……….especially a topic which is a disgusting permanent maiming assult upon females….an investigation is needed not silence.

Look at the link to the CT gov web site. The bill was favorably voted out of committee 13-0 on March 1, 2018. What happened was that the bill never came up for a vote in the full Senate, which is a common event in CT. Why? Probably because no parallel bill was introduced in the lower house, the Assembly.

There is a federal law. Apparently the USA is like Canada. The individual states can and will thumb their nose at federal law. Especially if it protects a female.
carolyne says
Why do we need a state law when there is a federal law forbidding this horrifying misogynistic practice? Is it because yet again the feds are more interested in a coup d’tat against our elected government than enforcing the law?
Older Canadian says
It is perhaps history keeps repeating itself upon deaf ears. Laws created to protect females are made but seldom enforced. Why….I don’t understand, perhaps you should ask a democrate in the USA or a Liberal in Canada.
