“The Trump administration announced Monday that it is closing the Palestine Liberation Organization’s mission in Washington, citing Palestinian leaders’ resistance to peace talks and attempts to get an international court to prosecute Israel for alleged war crimes.”
At last, a move away from fantasy-based policymaking and an adjustment of policy based on actual reality. Long overdue, and certain to elicit howls of rage from the entrenched fantasists.
“Trump administration closing PLO mission in Washington,” by Andrew O’Reilly, Fox News, September 10, 2018 (thanks to Ken):
The Trump administration announced Monday that it is closing the Palestine Liberation Organization’s mission in Washington, citing Palestinian leaders’ resistance to peace talks and attempts to get an international court to prosecute Israel for alleged war crimes.
The announcement marks the latest blow by the United States against the Palestinians amid a stalled Mideast peace process.
“The United States will use any means necessary to protect our citizens and those of our allies from unjust prosecution by this illegitimate court,” National Security Adviser John Bolton plans to say during a Monday afternoon speech to the Federalist Society. “The United States will always stand with our friend and ally, Israel.”
Bolton is addressing the PLO decision in that speech, saying “The Trump administration will not keep the office open when the Palestinians refuse to take steps to start direct and meaningful negotiations with Israel.”
He plans to say: “The United States supports a direct and robust peace process, and we will not allow the ICC, or any other organization, to constrain Israel’s right to self-defense.”
The White House has reportedly mulled shutting down of the PLO mission in Washington since last November, unless the Palestinian leadership enters serious peace talks with Israel.
Bolton’s announcement on closing the mission adheres to a provision in U.S. law saying the PLO mission must close if the Palestinians try to get the ICC to prosecute Israelis for crimes against Palestinians.
“While the Court welcomes the membership of the so-called State of Palestine, it has threatened Israel—a liberal, democratic nation—with investigation into its actions to defend citizens from terrorist attacks in the West Bank and Gaza,” Bolton plans to say. “There has also been a suggestion that the ICC will investigate Israeli construction of housing projects on the West Bank.”
The U.S. does not currently recognize the Palestinian territories as an independent state, though the United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly voted in 2012 to recognize Palestine as a “non-member observer state.”
Heather Nauert, a spokeswoman for the U.S. State Department, said on Monday that the announcement does not change the U.S. stance that direct negotiations are the way to forge a peace deal, but warned the PLO against any rash actions.
“The United States continues to believe that direct negotiations between the two parties are the only way forward,” Nauert said in a statement. “This action should not be exploited by those who seek to act as spoilers to distract from the imperative of reaching a peace agreement. We are not retreating from our efforts to achieve a lasting and comprehensive peace.”
Closing the PLO mission in Washington almost certainly will stiffen the Palestinians’ opposition to any peace plan now being worked on by Trump’s Middle East point men, Jared Kushner and Jason Greenblatt.
The Palestinian leadership has been openly hostile to any proposal from the administration, citing what it says is a pro-Israel bias.
Senior Palestinian diplomat Saeb Erekat said the U.S. decision was designed “to protect Israeli crimes” and added that the move would not stop Palestinian legal action against Israel.
“We reiterate that the rights of the Palestinian people are not for sale, that we will not succumb to US threats and bullying,” Erekat said in a statement. “Accordingly, we continue to call upon the International Criminal Court to open its immediate investigation into Israeli crimes.”
One issue the U.S. has had with the Palestinian Authority had been its stipends paid to the families of Palestinians killed, injured or jailed for attacks on Israel. Israel and the Trump administration have repeatedly demanded that those payments from a so-called “martyrs’ fund” be halted because they encourage terrorism. PA President Mahmoud Abbas has refused to do so….

The facade of the UN as a positive force in the world is crumbling.
It is now dedicated to Islamist expansion, and the destruction of Western Democracies via mass migration from the Third World.
It stands for nothing else.

The UN seems primarily a forum for corrupt governments to launch tirades against successful nations in place of reforms and building an economy within their own nations. Perhaps it should considered the Propaganda Testing Forum Of Nations
Carolyne says
The concept of the United Nations as a force for peace was a figment of Eleanor Roosevelt’s imagination. It is a group of anti-US countries taking our money and trying to destroy us. They need to leave our country and reestablish themselves to a country more to their liking, i.e. Saudi Arabia or Iran. Getting the PLO out of Washington is a good first step.

Mad Maxine Waters renews calls to impeach President Trump
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-EkjfwFk7k
Westman says
The only question Waters leaves open is: Why do her constituents, in whose district she does not reside, keep voting for her? She can only bring them ridicule. There must be better candidates within the actual district.
Obama didn’t bring home the bacon and neither has Waters. Community organizing and screaming, “impeach 45!”, has done nothing for people who deserve real opportunity. It seems like those who escaped the conditions only looked back in the rear view mirror.
Carolyne says
They keep voting for her because of racism, pure and simple. She is the right color, same as Obama. There are many African-Americans for whom I would vote, i.e. Condoleeza Rice. But not because of her color. Because of her intellect and love of country. I wonder what Maxine Waters; IQ is? Room temperature?

September, 2018. “This is yet another affirmation of the Trump Administration’s policy to collectively punish the Palestinian people . . .”
No, it’s simply a reminder of what the so-called “Palestinian people” did on another September, the one in 1972. A reminder of the countless murderous attacks by “Palestinians” on Israel.
All part of a 1400-year jihad by Muslims on the world at large.

Israel has shown great restrain when dealing with the unbridled aggression of the PLO , Hamas,” Palestinian Leaders”, Israel ties its best in killing the fewest truly innocent refugees “Palestinian people” civilians when defending it own people. As “Palestinian leaders” back and finance terror groups that main slogan and mission is kill ever Jew wipe Israel off the map. Are my tax dollars as an American going to support the rich “Palestinian Leader” who are nothing but a front for a terrorist organizations that want to wipe out the only true democracy in the Middle East America,s only true friend in the world of hate and violence that is the Middle East? Thank G-d we elected a leader who sees these truths and not the lies of the last 70 years coming from these refugee,s leaders of the “Palestinian People” they have been told this lie often enough everyday for 70 years that they the refugees can have all Israel for themselves that they believe it. Time for America to turn off the money drain to this Islamic terror factory the “Palestinian Government”.

its a very wise decision of President Trump to close the PLO center “mission” in Washington DC. It was a very good decision for many reasons. One of which when it to taking a stand for God and likewise for what is right the PLO /headquarters should be closed .For to keep it open since the US embassy is now in Jerusalem it would be rather inconsistent and “double-minded. to allow the horrible anti-Israel center PLO open in Washington DC.
Likewise ,President Trump wisely had said “It’s time to officially recognize [the reality of] Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.” Yes, indeed, it’s very much time to recognize Jerusalem as the capital city of the State of Israel, and he then acted on his word and he had done so by good decision of moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem .This bold and wise decision of President Trump to move the US embassy to Jerusalem has greatly offended many of the Muslim clerics . Be they, for example, the imams of Pakistan or the mullahs of Iran. Those Muslim clerics with their mind control and their unconscionable ways they manipulate the people from the mosques to be their stooges into a, violent uprising, because of the President’s decision is despicable . Some people of the left will say that the decision of move the US embassy to Jerusalem is “provoking” and it will “incite violence.” This only shows the old saying to be true .Which is that “Evil is always looking for an excuse. “ The fact is President Trump made the right decision and if the Muslim clerics don’t happen to like it ,well then it’s “tough beans.” to them
As the Bible informs its readers “The Lord also shall roar out of Zion, and utter His voice from Jerusalem … the Lord will be the hope of His people ,and the strength of the children of Israel.” Joel 3:16.

Graven is absolutely correct. These groups call for land “free” of Jews “from the river to the sea”. Even the toothless “Palestinian Authority” demands land completely without Jews. This means all Jews leave or are annihilated and there will be no country named Israel. The BDS movement, as useful dolts, thinks these groups have a diverse nation in mind that includes Jews when they all chant as “fellow travelers”.

I am not a Trump supporter, the pussy grabber in-chief. He has proven himself to be an incompetent, narcissistic liar. However, even a broken clock is right twice a day. Sensible people (particularly progressives, liberals, leftists) in their haste to denigrate all things Trumpian, are, in effect, throwing out the baby with the bath water when in comes to mideast policy. The Trump admin position:
1) barring immigrants from 6 Muslim majority countries that fail to effectively vet their emigrants as well as
2) its position on defunding UNRWA (See https://meforum.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b7aa7eddb0f2bb74bfa4f… are both eminently sensible actions.
The same is true for related matters, to wit:
1) threatening to take action against the ICC based upon its threats to investigate/act against US soldiers in Afghanistan and/or to bring charges against Israel and
2) close the US offices of the PLO. See also: https://www.timesofisrael.com/us-to-announce-closure-of-plo-office-in-wa… citing the WSJ describing the PLO’s violation of the 2015 Congressional act to the effect that the PLO must not use the ICC as a means to assert crimes against Israel. .
The irony is mind boggling.
Actions by the ICC vs US soldiers in an Afghanistan (an Afghanistan that gave refuge to the Taliban and ISIS related terror orgs before and after 9/11) is beyond ICC jurisdiction. Neither Israel or the US agreed to submit to ICC jurisdiction.
The Pals complaining about Israeli atrocities is the height of chutzpah. The IDF takes greater measures to avoid civilian casualties than any other armed force whereas the Pals, e.g. Hamas and its bedfellows (including the Taliban and various Al Qaeda entities) bomb civilian enclaves indiscriminately and/or regularly engage in terrorism.
The extension of a carrot has not worked with Pals and their allies/accomplices (willing and or ignorant). Now is the time for the big stick…to show the PLO (as well as Hamas and others) that it can never win against Israel. They must be utterly defeated wherever fighting exists. The death cult should be free to realize its self proclaimed glory in martyrdom until so many gain paradise that those left behind come to their collective senses. Only then can there be fruitful negotiations towards a true final peace. Maybe.
Westman says
And what are your thoughts on the Kennedy bros’, Johnson’s, and Clinton’s extramarital PG while IN OFFICE? Are you consistent?
David Darman says
To answer your question re prior Presidents “pussy grabbing conduct”, I don’t think it affected their performance as President of the nation. In Trump’s case, his pussy grabbing in and of itself is, as you correctly point out, by no means be a unique character trait. It is not detrimental per se to his performance as President (no matter how grossly/ugly he manifests it).
However, his other character flaws do affect his performance as President. He promised to clear the swamp yet many of his close associates have pled guilty or been convicted of crimes related to politics. And Mueller hasn’t finished the job.
Westman says
I’m quite aware that Trump is flawed in the eyes of many – and likely the majority of those are quite flawed in their own un-media-examined lives.
Mueller has produced nothing of value to “safeguard” elections and is off the rails defined for the investigation.
Frankly, you should be thankful that Trump was elected, flawed as he is, because a revolution was averted. Sounds bizarre? Let’s think for a moment about what has been happening in the US since it was agrarian and most citizens labored for their livelyhood.
People moved from the farms for an easier life of greater opportunity and wealth at the same time that technology, low by today’s standards, developed to compensate for the missing labor. This continued until about 2% of the population remained in farming. This transfer of labor mostly went into labor and services that fueled enormous growth and excesses that were moderated by recession and unionism.
After WWII a new social structure began to emerge: privilege based on education; that is, the avoidance of physical work in one’s occupation. I have two university degrees in STEM disciplines and my life has been better and will be longer than average, unlike my grandfather who was worn out at 58. However, I cannot say the same for “Hillary’s deplorables” who have served with sweat and sinew to serve us while getting no respect except a disembodied paycheck printed by a computer.
Even Obama doesn’t “get it.” The CIA didn’t “get it” before the 1979 Iranian revolution. It’s foolishness to set up a system in which education is the key to advancement and then exacerbate the situation by flooding the nation with foreign workers; accelerating change that is detrimental to the existing labor. Accelerated change leads to serious instability, the fuel of revolutions.
Hillary Clinton, with one word, “deplorables”, ignited a soft revolution(one already fueled) that is ongoing. She is the archetype of the university-educated godless elite who consider the “working class” unequal; making a mockery of the constitutional promise of equality. Unfortunately the universities are minting more of them – young people aimed by professors to right-the-wrongs on their way to lives without labor.
From a completely analytical perspective, technology and education have shifted the Bell Curve of occupational distribution while the labor portion of the Bell Curve of available workers has only spread toward technology; leaving many former labor workers without good paying jobs. Add 50 million illegals, green cards, H visas, etc and there is a serious discord brewing.
If Globalism is inevitable, then so is revolution. We’re not going to have one, unlimited, without the other. For now, Trump is molifying the laborers of America; I’m thankful and appreciative of them.
Looking at the EU, Brexit is a good indicator that Brits have a premonition of what can happen when globalism steals sovereignty. The EU will likely collapse from accelerated change due to immigration.
Westman says
I should have added one more significant factor: the seditious, greedy US corporations that moved jobs out of the US without a thought of how they are damaging labor and entire US cities.
If “maximizing returns to investors” remains the only objective of corporations, globalism and revolution are inevitable, and also the failure attempts at heavy socialism that come with it.
Chatillon says
Trump has taken the right step here, for the right reasons. And is doubtless making some folks pretty upset in the bargain. But there is so much more to do. After watching a recent Robert Spencer video, for instance, it appears that Mr. Trump has yet to overturn Obama’s ban on the mention of Islam in federal terror training.
Trump has two years left in his term. With luck, he may win a second term. But then what? How much of the swamp has been drained? Who’s going to continue the job?
While we’re thinking that one over, it’s also important to be mindful of the upcoming midterms. Remember that unaccomplished nobodies like BHO got their starts and were groomed in state governments. We need quality there instead, people who aren’t afraid to tell us who they are, who love the USA and are capable of showing through intelligent, loyal and virtuous work in the legislatures.
