A glimpse into the future of Europe.
“Inside Tunisia’s ghost hotels: The once lavish resorts deserted and abandoned after terror attacks on tourists,” by Bryony Jewell, Mailonline, September 6, 2018:
Ranging from perfectly preserved to in ruins these resorts in Tunisia, that were abandoned after terrorist attacks in 2015, are a clash between ‘post-apocalyptic’ and forgotten elegance.
Still laid out in all their grandeur, the hotel’s white lobbies and dining halls remain laden with chairs, tables and couches that were once used by thousands of guests.
The decline in tourism in Tunisia came after a spate of terror attacks in 2015, where 71 people were killed in multiple incidents.
The worst of that year occurred on June 26, when 38 foreign tourists, including 30 British nationals, were killed in an attack on Port El Kantaoui near Sousse – many of the hotels have stood empty since.
Stunning chandeliers hang from the ceilings and facilities, from a fully-equipped bar to massage tables and spa rooms, remain intact apart from a heavy coating of dust.
Outside, the magnificent Moorish-design courtyards remain impressive yet overgrown in their abandonment, with green pond-like liquid lying in the pools, Jacuzzis and water features.
Urban explorer Bob Thissen, from Heerlen, The Netherlands, visited the sites after the country was declared a no-fly zone, and where some of the hotels closed as early as 2008. A state of emergency was first declared in Tunisia three years ago.
Advice from the UK Government states: ‘Terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Tunisia’, listing eight extremist activities.
Bob said: ‘It was crazy to walk alone in such big resorts where thousands of tourists used to spend their holidays. It was so silent.
‘It’s like a lost paradise. The pools have dirty green water, are half filled with sand and vegetation, or just the salt is left inside the saltwater pools.
‘The normally perfect swept paths are now full of sand and covered with dead palm leaves.
‘The outdoor animation buildings are falling apart, bars are empty, and the playground equipment appears lonely.
‘All resorts were completely different, from perfect condition to completely ruined. I liked the post-apocalyptic exteriors with the pools the most.
‘It’s crazy that these sized resorts are abandoned. Most resorts have multiple outdoor and indoor pools.
‘It was a big contrast to see these abandoned decaying hotels against the beautiful blue water beaches.’

Also not mentioned is the suicide truck bomb attack on the synagogue on the island of Djerba. It seems to me that after that, more and more tourist areas were targeted. The last few pretty much sealed the fate of Tunisia.
Morocco has been a favorite tourist destination, and so far things have been OK. Look for any reliably safe tourist spot in that part of the world to get targeted.

J D S says
Not only in that part of the world…most places where there is a tourism throng will be targets for terrorism as the governments in those areas cave in to the Islamist.
gravenimage says
True–that’s why there have been so many plots against places like the Eiffel Tower and other tourist spots.
Charles says
JDS: Absolutely ! For example, this summer shards of glass have been inserted in the sand of beaches in the Bracebridge and Huntsville , Ontario, Canada, area.
The mayors of these places have gone public to warn tourists, and a letter purported to be from the perpetrators has landed in the hands of the local detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police. Terrorists aim to terrorise. Construction boots for bathers ?
StellaSaidSo says
Things are OK in Morocco because most of the Moroccans are in Paris, LOL.
Guy Forester says
Unfortunately, true. What is not being said is that by Western countries deliberately leaving the borders open, we are allowing the malcontents, criminals, and ne’er do well leeches of these third world hell holes to bring their vices to our homelands. This acts as a safety valve for the despots (parasitic class of elites) so they do not need to act to better the lives of their subjects. Those that actually come to our homelands to better their lives and become assimilated into our culture and society will soon find themselves back in hell. The persecution they left will join them here.
Meanwhile, the globalists, cheap labor advocates, and hypocritical do gooders continue to bleed the Western countries dry for personal gain and turn them into third world hell holes as well. They expect to sit on the top of the poop pile with their taxpayer funded security.
Guess I am not too optimistic today.
Del says
You are clearly talking about Trudeau.

Muslims are not even good for cheap labor, since few of them work and most live on the dole.
Del says
Where there is Islam there is violence.

If it does start to happen by the thousands in European cities, it will be the end of tourism for sure.
Stacy Girl says
It’s the end of it for me already.

+1 Me too……who wants to go to Europe anymore?
The fools in power have destroyed the world….because of their tolerance to Islam.
Steve I. says
I am from luxembourg (EU), my wife is German (EU). We both live on the german border and we will be moving out of Europe next year!
I love Europe and i love my country and the whole region, but this is not my home anymore because the “self elected elite” decided it was better to be invaded by muslims instead of giving more benefits to EUROPEAN families.
JAT 349 says
Wherever islam has touched the earth death, destruction, fear and misery has followed.
Islam has done wonders for Tunisia.

Visited Poland in June. Very safe. Great WWII museum in Gdansk and a huge museum about the Solidarity movement. I also liked Warsaw,Sopot resort, and Krakow whuch has an aviation museum reachable by bus outside the city. Budapest and Prague also fantastic.
Indiana Tom says
Poland might be okay.

Eastern Europe is still good because few to no migrants got let in. Hungary, Poland, Chekoslovakia etc. You can still go to Russia. They have Islam, but they do not put up with bad behavior.

I’m afraid Russia has a real problem with Jihad terror–and the whole of Chechnya has been allowed to become a Shari’ah state.

The tally so far: 71 kuffar dead and one massive self-inflicted wound to the Tunisian economy.
Garry says
The religion of peace again hitting a nail into its own coffin. Avoid any Islamic country as a holiday destination. Only trouble is they are now heading to the western countries as their economy is now crippled by their own followers. Short sighted distraction.
Lydia Church says
Yes, the disease is spreading!
Pete says
So true.
Elizabeth Lawson says
We spent many happy years vacationing in Dar Djerba, which is a short distance from the Libyan border. In the almost twenty years we resided in Libya, Djerba always provided welcome R and R to all we expats. I am sorry to learn of this turn of events, because the Tunisian people were welcoming, helpful and friendly to we visitors.

It reminds me of the attempt to set up a ski resort in Pakistan:
“Pakistani Taliban torch ski resort”

jayell says
So who exactly did they expect to go to Pakistan to ski?
gravenimage says
If it was not for Islam, this was be a nice spot to ski. Not top-tier skiing, perhaps, but certainly as good as what you find in, say, some parts of the Alps and northern New England.
Of course, these latter spots are not overrun by the Taliban–not yet, anyway…

Islam is death. Islam is destruction.

The property owners must employ one vagabond with a stick to keep the other vagabonds out, imagine this man walking around the empty parts all day smoking cigarettes and uttering nonsense to the air, they might even let him keep a woman in one of the rooms and she calls it the home. It sounds like the life to me, from that guy’s point of view he probably has never thought for one second that there is any problem with his society or religion, he is getting a humble yet comfortable life and living in a world that to others is only a temporary vacation paradise. The only problem is that sometimes at night the ghosts of the dead tourists come and rattle the shutters.

………………
And yet, many *still* cite Tunisia as an oasis of “moderation”…
StellaSaidSo says
It was, until recently, in comparison with most Islamic countries.
gravenimage says
True, Stella. It still is not as bad overall as, say, Libya. That is damning with faint praise, though.
StellaSaidSo says
We have Obama and Hillary to thank for the condition of Libya today. Under Gaddafi, Libya was a model society in comparison.
ElderlyZionist says
Riiight. Tunisia is the shining success story of the Arab Spring, true Arab Democracy in action for all doubters to see.
StellaSaidSo says
Indeed, EZ, it is frightening, and sad, how quickly things can change. Tunisia once had one of the highest literacy rates in the Islamic world, one of the lowest infant mortality rates, a thriving cultural sector, no head-bags, and a profitable tourist industry. Then along came the Salafists…
Bukkdem Jizheads says
Maybe not accurate, but I recollect Tunisia became a vacation destination because they banned the niqab. It served to drive out extremists. What happened?
StellaSaidSo says
Quite accurate, BJ. The banning of the head bag encouraged the most devout and dangerous Mohammedans to leave Tunisia. Unfortunately, some of them returned.
Norger says
Istanbul (Turkey) is a great city with lots of high end hotels. Been there several times. Lots of museums, historical sites, some beautiful parks, great scenery, great food, great atmosphere. Tourism there has taken a huge hit over the past few years, particularly after the failed coup against Erdogan. Unfortunately seems to be headed in this same direction as the Tunisian tourist industry.
Arthur says
Islam means “peace” hahahahahaha
Spiro says
Islam means submission
Jayell says
It must take more than a modicum of collective idiocy to shoot yourself in the foot the way that things have happened in Tunisia, and Turkey seems to have gone the same way – and no doubt Egypt and elsewhere where the spirit of Mohammed rules? So are these people now going to seek economic refuge in Europe and give us the benefit of their constructive wisdom and civility, as they usually seem to do? What a shame that others suffered as well – like Monarch Airlines went bust because they did too much trade with the islamic world.
pumbar says
Europe is finished.
If Not Now When? says
Western Europe for sure.
Maxwell SJ Fenton says
I’ve never understood why anyone goes to an Islamic land for a holiday. The very concept of kufr in Islamic thought is enough for me, I don’t even use British Islamic businesses or taxis. Why should I give anything to a people who perceive me as a third class citizen, the worst of all creatures?
It wouldn’t bother me if every Islamic land went the way of Tunisia.. My hatred for Islam is unsurpassed?
Steve's nephew says
Maxwell:” I’ve never understood why anyone goes to an Islamic land for a holiday. ” Heck if I know of a restaurant run by Muslims, I will not eat there. I am worried that they might put feces in the food they serve me.
Indiana Tom says
Islam in action.
Totally non-productive organization.
Not a religion.
Look for more of this in the future.
R Russell says
Tunisia refused – about 2-3 months ago, to take a boat load of ‘migrants’ whose rescuers were wanting to take them to the nearest safe country as per the regulations.
Now that we know they have plenty of unused accommodation, perhaps they can be urged more emphatically to take them……..Oh but they want to go to Europe to force Islam on non-Muslims and Tunisia is already a Muslim country.
Jim says
Why go to ANY of those Middle Eastern hellholes?? I went to Shanghai and Beijing last year, and had a GREAT time. No fears, no worries, and lots to see and do.

I wish some enterprising tactical AR-15 trainer would organize a school at this former resort advertising the possibility of live-fire training exercises.
gravenimage says
In that case, a lot of their students would likely be future Jihadists…
Hugh Fitzgerald says
The current king of Morocco knows how important tourist revenues are. He has a vast network of police, many in plain clothes, who are constantly circulating, and looking out not just for the slightest hint of Muslim jihadis, but also for those who used to plague the tourists, cheating them in the markets, or attaching themselves as unwanted “guides” who then would demand to be paid by unwary tourists. The king’s police force has put paid to all that. Anyone behaving the least bit out of line is immediately taken away by the police. No nonsense.
This has made the country safe — compared to other Muslim Arab states — for tourists. And there is another market to protect, that of Western moviemakers who find Morocco an ideal setting for their productions. Here again the Moroccan police in mufti make sure that everything proceeds as desired. Any problems are swiftly solved by arresting potential troublemakers. It’s an enlightened police state, ruthless for all the right reasons.

This article gave me some kind of revelation. It has always puzzled me, and us, why the Left goes along with Islam. I read all kind of explanations, like “the enemy of my enemy” and “multiculturalism destroy the West” but none of them satisfy me.
Islam and leftist socialism have something else in common. They both destroy the good life for the people in that country and culture. They both bring misery and poverty.
It may sound stupid but I have never seen this connection in the simple common goal. Explaining their love for each other. Strangely enough, when the islamists take over in Europe, the first ones they are going to kill are the leftists. After all, they are direct competition.
