UPDATE: There are numerous indications that Hadiza Bawa-Garba was allowed to practice medicine again with good and reasonable cause.
———-
What could possibly go wrong? To refuse to allow her to practice medicine again would be “Islamophobic.”
“Mum’s anger as doctor is allowed to practise again after death of son,” by Jimmy Nsubuga, Metro, August 14, 2018:
The mother of a boy who died after a paediatrician mishandled his case has hit out at the decision to reinstate her.
Dr Hadiza Bawa-Garba was struck off in January after being convicted of gross negligence manslaughter over the death of six-year-old Jack Adcock.
But she challenged the decision at the Court of Appeal, which yesterday unanimously ruled her name should be restored to the medical register and a previous punishment of of a year’s suspension was sufficient.
Jack’s mother Nicola Adcock has called the ruling ‘an absolute disgrace’.
She told ITV News: ‘It makes a mockery of the justice system.
‘If she’d (Dr Bawa-Garba) have done what she should have done that day I know my son would still be here 99.9% and I will never budge from that.’
Jack, from Glen Parva, Leicestershire – who had Down’s syndrome and a heart condition – died at Leicester Royal Infirmary in 2011 after he developed sepsis.
In 2015 Dr Bawa-Garba was sentenced to two years in prison suspended for two years at Nottingham Crown Court.
The judge said neither she nor a nurse who was on duty ‘gave Jack the priority which this very sick boy deserved’, which included a misdiagnosis from the paediatrician.
She had also mistakenly marked him as ‘do not resuscitate’ after confusing him with another patient.
Mrs Adcock added in interview with Leicester Mercury: ‘We feel absolutely devastated and let down. What they have done is a mockery of the justice system.
‘She has contributed to a child’s death, but she’ll be able to work again.
‘What does it take to be struck off as a doctor?’…

If it was a caucasian doctor and a Muslim child. The doctor would have lost the right to practice for life, and probably put in jail for life, if not executed
carpediadem says
Actually, not necessarily. The disdain for people’s health and bodies is one spread right across the world. Doctors who commit malpractice are frequently allowed to practice again eg a doctor in Australia who assaulted female patients was allowed to continue seeing female patients with a chaperone in the room. Naturally he continued assaulting women because people like that are experts at furtive assault.
The institutions respect doctors, not patients. It’s a rare case indeed that has a medical type go to jail after committing an offence.
Islam is just one more excuse.
carpediadem says
By the way there are plenty of Caucasian Muslims. Can people please stop using race as a measure in these cases when this is a religious Muslim vs nonMuslim issue?
Nothing to do with colour.

More disgrace upon the judicial system in the UK…..I don’t know if the UK has the equivalence of the U.S. when it comes to Doctors or not…and the way the wind is blowing today most likely, with pressure, she would be welcomed in the U.S. and given a license if she chose to leave or was kicked out of the UK.

One shouldn’t overgeneralize about the level of concern of Muslim physicians, however, Islam has a compulsory and ‘essential’ DOCTRINE OF HATRED directed from Muslims towards the KUFAAR called ‘Al Walaa wal Baraa’ (allegiance to Muslims and disassociation from disbelieving KUFAAR).
All Muslims, including physicians, are required by this doctrine to HATE KAFIRS ‘for the sake of Allah’. With such a hateful doctrine as this, how can one know if, how or when a Muslim physician will choose to practice Al Walaa wal Baraa?
One cannot know HOW MUCH ‘Baraa’ is in the heart of any Muslim. It is safer, then, to avoid giving trust to Muslims due to the existence of this horrible teaching.
Muslims should take a good look at Al Walaa wal Baraa and ask themselves ‘Is this doctrine not a good reason for leaving Islam?’

The child will be at peace in a place of Love, you may have no doubt about that.

Doesn’t the region formerly known as Britain have malpractice lawyers? If reason and scientific thinking don’t guide the choice of medical staff, heavy malpractice judgements should keep doctors competent and hospitals concerned about hiring adequate medical staff.
If socialized “Britain” allows people choice in their doctors, patients need to ask doctors how islam affects their doctor. I wouldn’t want a surgeon who has to leave the OR for salat dump my heart or brain surgery on terrified amateur assistants. Or make me drink camel urine for an infection or cancer. Wake up Britain, Brexit or not, sharia will get worse for you.

I actually wanted to Trick or Treat for UNICEF when I was a child. They still do some good work, but are just too morally compromised now.

It appears the UK National Health Service has a habit of allowing handicapped children to die from lack of care.
carpediadem says
You don’t need to be Islamic to be an awful doctor anywhere. Plenty of incompetents about.
carpediadem says
Not just handicapped kids. Anyone.
IanB says
Anyone, but especially old people put on “do not resusitate”.

Two different kinds of comments:
1 . Giving a proofreader a second chance after missing a typo is not the same as giving a physician a second chance after killing someone. If a hand-wringing liberal should cry: what is she to do with her life? One answer is : teach biology.
2. “The blunder was made near the end of a 13-hour double shift during which she had no break” (the Sun) . Without trying to excuse Bawa-Garba, this case should be another hint that we should stop overworking doctors, especially interns and residents.
James Lincoln says
I cannot understand how Islam can be compatible with the Hippocratic oath, etc.
Also, physicians and medical support staff who are Muslim apologists may also provide substandard care. Case in point, the horrific medical care that Robert Spencer received in Iceland after he was poisoned. Luckily he survived!

Is this in the UK? blimey! don’t you know that the UK is already operating under Sharia law? So why would the UK stop him from practicing medicine?

Attending and being treated by this Muslim MD would be like playing Russian Roulette with a loaded revolver. Never knowing if you will be the patient she decides to use in her jihad.
It is bad enough that she was found to be grossly incompetent, but add in her religion and the demands of that teligion to commit jihad upon the non believer. She is a negligent, incompetent time bomb waiting to go off. I know I sure would not be taking my children to her for treatment.
Grizzly says
I don’t want to let Islam off the hook here, but is her incompetence somehow related to Islam in this case? Maybe I just didn’t read the article carefully enough.
Yes, she should go to jail & yes she should be stripped of her license to practice if she is THAT incompetent.
Malcolm Jackson says
The Common Purpose controlled NHS looking after its own.

Getting medical attention in my home town of Leicester IS like playing Russian Roulette. I removed myself from the local GP practice because I was assigned a Muslim doctor. My wife and I would never allow a Muslim doctor or nurse to touch us mainly because of their known bad personal hygiene habits but also because of the arrogant superior attitude they usually display. Our friends (including Hindus and Sikhs) have the same reservations regarding Muslim medics in Leicester hospitals.
StellaSaidSo says
It’s the same in Australia, Ian. Often, one does not have a choice. After consulting two Muslim doctors at my local clinic, both of whom failed to diagnose my pneumonia, I was admitted to hospital by a Hindu doctor.
IanB says
I hope you have fully recovered Stella.
Best wishes, Ian
IanB says
That’s the truth. See the Common Purpose Exposed site ‘s list of CP “graduates” in Leicester NHS and nationally although the list is out of date (circa 2004).

Y’all might want to take a closer look at this particular case. While I am loathe to come to the defense of a muslim, this looks like a case of a junior physician placed in a new position, given a heavy work load with little support, then thrown under the bus when the inevitable mistakes occur. Britains system of socialized medicine is just as culpable, if not more so, for the death of Jack Adcock as Dr. Bawa-Garba.
Constantine says
Like the UK, we are seeing a flood of foreign doctors in the US. and some physicians here who weren’t accepted at medical schools in country coming back from the Philippines and practicing here. When you have free care, quality sinks. I’m fortunate to have 2 family members who are physicians. My GP referred me to a Paki specialist and I said hell no. Just can’t risk putting my life in the hands of anyone named Muhammad.
