Everyone is happy at this Queensland mosque. Muslim women feel “empowered” (!) at the sight of non-Muslim women wearing hijab, and the non-Muslims are happy because “trying on a hijab may remove people’s negativity about it.”
But where does that negativity come from? Why should anyone feel negative toward the hijab? Could it be because of Aqsa Parvez, whose Muslim father choked her to death with her hijab after she refused to wear it. Or Amina Muse Ali, a Christian woman in Somalia whom Muslims murdered because she wasn’t wearing a hijab? Has this mosque shown any concern for the 40 women who were murdered in Iraq in 2007 for not wearing the hijab; or for Alya Al-Safar, whose Muslim cousin threatened to kill her and harm her family because she stopped wearing the hijab in Britain; or for Amira Osman Hamid, who faced whipping in Sudan for refusing to wear the hijab; or for the Egyptian girl, also named Amira, who committed suicide after being brutalized by her family for refusing to wear the hijab; or for the Muslim and non-Muslim teachers at the Islamic College of South Australia who were told they had to wear the hijab or be fired; or for the women in Chechnya whom police shot with paintballs because they weren’t wearing hijab; or for the women in Chechnya who were threatened by men with automatic rifles for not wearing hijab; or for the elementary school teachers in Tunisia who were threatened with death for not wearing hijab; or for the Syrian schoolgirls who were forbidden to go to school unless they wore hijab; or for the women in Gaza whom Hamas has forced to wear hijab; or for the women in Iran who protested against the regime, even before the recent uprising, by daring to take off their hijabs; or for the women in London whom Muslim thugs threatened to murder if they didn’t wear hijab; or for the anonymous young Muslim woman who doffed her hijab outside her home and started living a double life in fear of her parents; or for the fifteen girls in Saudi Arabia who were killed when the religious police wouldn’t let them leave their burning school building because they had taken off their hijabs in their all-female environment; or for the girl in Italy whose mother shaved her head for not wearing hijab; or for all the other women and girls who have been killed or threatened, or who live in fear for daring not to wear the hijab?
Courageous women in the Islamic Republic of Iran are taking off their hijabs as a sign of resistance to the oppressive Sharia regime under which they live, and at least 29 women have been arrested for doing so. Who is standing in solidarity with them? Not the Lebanese Muslim Association in Queensland or its happy non-Muslim friends.
“Regional mosque throws its doors open and shows women what it’s like to wear a hijab,” by Amy McCosker, ABC Capricornia, October 27, 2018 (thanks to P.):
The hijab has courted courted plenty of controversy, and now Muslim women in Queensland are harnessing people’s interest in the headscarf to start conversations within their community.
At a recent open day at Rockhampton mosque, 34-year-old, mother-of-three Nusra Noorudheen and her friends showed non-Muslim women how the hijab was worn.
Ms Noorudheen said it opened up plenty of interesting conversations.
“If you have a hajib, niqab or burka on some people find it objectionable and think it’s against women’s rights,” she said.
“When you have a negative image like that and then you try it on you see that it’s not that bad, you still look beautiful — sometimes you even look better in a hijab!
“Going through that experience, you can get a different idea about it.”
Ms Noorudheen said it was also a humanising experience to share your culture with someone directly.
“Sometimes when you are showing it to them they will tell you how they feel about it,” she said.
“It opens up conversations because sometimes people don’t talk about hijabs but this makes it more casual.”…
Ms Noorudheen, who moved to Australia from Dubai eight years ago, said she had not encountered many problems when wearing her hijab in the city.
“I was worried when I first came that people could be prejudiced against me or judge me harshly, but I have had really beautiful experiences,” she said.
“I have had many, many people come to me and compliment me on my hijab, they sometimes say they really love my scarf and they want to know where I got it.”…
Sue Finnigan tried on a hijab for the first time today and said while it was a warm accessory in the Rockhampton heat, it was nice to speak one-on-one with Ms Noorudheen.
“I don’t think they should be judged — it’s a part of their culture,” she said.
“Trying on a hijab may remove people’s negativity about it.
“It’s been nice to experience wearing it and, not only that, I think it’s also about experiencing the whole thing, trying on the hijab, tasting the food … I have nothing but pleasant thoughts about today; it was absolutely wonderful.”
Community open to learn
The day’s activities were a part of the Lebanese Muslim Association’s National Mosque Open Day.
Islamic Society of Central Queensland president Binil Kattiearambil said welcoming 200 people through the doors of the mosque aimed to demystify their community.
“The purpose is to break down barriers and any sort of stigma around Muslims and Islam,” he said.
Mr Kattiearambil said the conversations had between women about the hijabs were as important to the Muslim women as they were to the visitors.
“The Muslim women feel quite empowered when they see people from other faiths come forward and try on the hijab,” he said.
“The non-Muslim people who try it on get to experience a bit of culture that another woman experiences throughout her lifetime.”
He said women wearing hijabs were mostly treated well within the broader central Queensland community.
“There are a few instances, maybe a shove of a trolley at a supermarket, but you expect that everywhere,” Mr Kattiearambil said….

Why not help the Muslim women who DON’T WANT TO BE VEILED?
Why not contribute to a fund to help PERSECUTED and BEATEN Muslim women?

Clitoridectomy, falsely translated
In 1981 Sheikh Gad al-Haq of al-azhar University a supreme authority on sunni Islam, issued a fatwa stating that circumcision of girls was a religious obligation. (Durie 2010 p 63)
In Reliance of the Traveller, a classical manual of Islamic sacred law in Arabic with facing English text, commentary and appendices edited and translated by Nuh Ha Mim Keller (1994) re ‘circumcision’ we find the Arabic actually says
Law e4.3 p59
“Circumcision is obligatory (for every male and female) by cutting off the piece of skin on the glans of the penis of the male,
but circumcision of the female is by cutting out the clitoris (bazr in Arabic)- (this is called HufaaD or khufaadh –female circumcision). ” (p59)(Shafi’i Law) (Durie 2010, p 64; answering-Islam.org, several articles on clitoridectomy on this site by Circe)
(A: Hanbalis hold that circumcision of women is not obligatory but sunna, while Hanafis consider it a mere courtesy to the husband.)”
The English version falsely translates bazr as ‘prepuce ‘ of the clitoris!! This is an addition by the translator.
The Arabic word bazr does not mean “prepuce of the clitoris”, it means the clitoris itself (cf. the entry in the Arabic-English Dictionary). The deceptive translation by Nuh Hah Mim Keller which claims the ‘prepuce’ of the clitoris hides the true Arabic instructions which require excising the clitoris. This is made for Western consumption and obscures the Shafi’i law, given by ‘Umdat al-Salik, that circumcision of girls by excision of the clitoris is mandatory. This particular form of female circumcision is widely practiced in Egypt, where the Shafi’i school of Sunni law is followed and has spread around the world with Islam.
Mohammad himself endorsed the practice by telling a clitoris-cutter to continue (*Abu-Dawud Book 41, No. 525). Several hadith refer to the circumcised male organ and the circumcised female organ suggesting it was a common practice amongst Mohammad’s group( articles by Circe on clitoridectomy or FGM this site).

That’s what I thought when I read this report, Indiana Tom. Non-Muslim women trying on the degrading, misogynistic, slave headgear that they’ll be forced to wear if Islam ever takes over. It’s such BS. And, as many commenters here have pointed out, the tolerance, from what I see, is always only one way. We non-Muslim western people are too damned nice and always seem to be trying to behave pleasantly towards Muslims. From Muslims, pretty much zero tolerance towards our non-Muslim way of life that I am aware of. Muslims would see our tolerance as being weakness that they can exploit. I believe in keeping Islam out of all non-Muslim countries and we wouldn’t have to bother with all the trouble it inevitably brings. It’s the only solution I can see. Foolish gestures (or caving in to Islam like this) like the one in this report are pathetic rubbish.
b.a. freeman says
Muslims … see our tolerance as … weakness …
—
that is *IT*, in a nutshell. muhammed was a “warlord,” a nice way of saying that he was the head gang-banger, and his “companions” were his subordinate gang-bangers. as in any gang, swaggering and aggression are respected, while diplomacy is seen as weakness.
everything about islam is right out in the open, easily accessible to anybody who takes the trouble to look. all of our leaders are either leftists (democrats in the u.s.) or their dancing puppets (most republicans in the u.s.), and all of them are smart, whatever their politics, or they wouldn’t be in the elective positions they occupy. *NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THEM* treats the cult of islam as it should be by any civilized person, which is as a dangerous ideology to be isolated if not within our borders, or to be excised if found inside. that simple fact alone should demonstrate that our “leaders” are either indoctrinated-rather-than-educated fools, or are knowing participants in the destruction of our nation and culture (a shorter term is “traitor”). furthermore, since the left determines the government agenda, and the “right” (normal people with no agenda, who only want to be left alone to live their lives) is demeaned and driven from the public square at every turn, this state of affairs is without a doubt the design of the left.
consequently, by silencing us, the left simply guarantees the coming of a civil war. the shooting in pittsburgh has been used to shut down the gab platform; its payment processors accused it of violating their ToS, without specifying *what* gab had done. next, gab’s hosting service terminated its service for gab. so if gab were to buy a datacenter, host itself, and connect directly to the internet backbone, could we expect the backbone carriers to refuse to accept or pass on packets? at what point do we on the right get to speak? and if a user murdering people justifies shutting down a platform, why are whatsapp, fakebook, and twister still around? the left is filled with uneducated people who don’t know how to think, don’t recognize hypocrisy and lies when they bite them in the a**, and monsters who are planning mass murders.
tim gallagher says
I agree with your description of Islam as a “dangerous ideology”, b.a. freeman. It is dangerous, murderous and is filled with hatred for all non-Muslims. As you say, it’s not hard to find out the truth about evil Islam and yet there are so many people who just don’t bother to find out about this clear enemy of our whole way of life or who refuse to face up to the reality. I’ve often said that I can’t understand the left wingers who support Islam because they’ll be slaughtered as no longer useful idiots if Islam does get power. What I said up above about how we western people are just too damned nice and tolerant applies to the women going along and getting a head covering placed on them( as in this report). I doubt whether they are political players, but rather I suspect they are just people who are too tolerant and who get around trying to think the best of everyone, including Muslims, and who bend over backwards to be nice to people, even undeserving Muslims. Like you, unfortunately I think this will all end up in civil wars in many countries (especially in Europe), because I don’t see our political leaders waking up to Islam and stopping Muslim migration into our countries. I agree with your description of the evil monster that Muhammad was. Imagine what an evil version of god it would be that would choose Muhammad as its prophet.
dan christenen says
Australian women visiting the mosque in question, should bring with them a necklace with a Christian cross or a crucifix.
When the Christian woman tries on a hijab, the muslim woman concurrently tries on the necklace with the cross.
Then they both have demonstrated an equal openness and willingness to try each other’s religious symbols.
After the demonstration the Christian woman could invite the muslim woman to pay a visit to a Christian church, such that the muslim woman can be cultural enriched.

My response to the author of that australian article:
I would wonder, amongst the hand holding loveliness, the question- how many women have been ‘killed’ or beaten because they wore or wear an hijab, niqab or burqa? the answer is close to zero.
However, the number of women who have been beaten, tortured, murdered for not wearing the hijab, and the others numbers in the thousands. And included are those by the farthers and husbands of those tormented victims- the daughters, wives, and others who ‘defied’ their command to wear the hijab. So… am I being too severe, too out of context in this matter?
No. The statistics across all islam, for all its 1400 yrs demonstrates the severity and clear imperative of the use of their practices. And your article about this lacks so very much of the actual context, actual theologic beliefs, that it is astonishing. Too care so little for women…..

Mosque has non-Muslim women try on hijab “to break down any sort of stigma around Muslims and Islam”
Oh, I find this so insulting and condescending. Yes, gather ’round my little islamophobes and we’ll teach you the peaceful ways of muhammad. PUKE!
This would be funny if it wasn’t so dangerous and misguided. I guess from this little “lesson” we’re all supposed to conclude that islam is about peace and that the rampant misogyny in islam is all a delusion. In reality it only encourages more of the same oppression and abuse of women so prevalent in islam. The hijab is not a “humanizing experience” as some say. There’s nothing humanizing about teaching others how to be a slave to unfair and humiliating treatment under threat of death.
“I don’t think they should be judged — it’s a part of their culture,” she said.
Precisely, it’s part of their culture. And haven’t we all had enough of THEIR culture in our midst? the rape and terror, the FGM, the sharia infiltration that undermines our laws, those scary enclaves… yes, we know it’s part of their culture and that’s the f*cking problem. This isn’t just about a piece of cloth, it’s about the lack of equality for muslim women and the growing islamic threat to our freedoms, security, and cultural well-being. Islamic bigotry and intolerance is like a cancer, there’s no tiny aspect of that disease you want to make peace with. This hijab issue isn’t an isolated case in an otherwise healthy religious paradigm, it’s part and parcel of what makes islam the sick and dangerous ideology it truly is. I don’t care if for some women the hijab is truly an individual choice, I care about the countless millions that risk beatings and death if they don’t.
“It’s been nice to experience wearing it and, not only that, I think it’s also about experiencing the whole thing, trying on the hijab, tasting the food
Yes, and then they went to park and ate grass like cows too stupid to see the larger reality. I don’t know how you all feel, but I find this propaganda nauseating. These idiots live in La La Land, with nothing but “pleasant thoughts about today.” Of course you’d say that, you stupid c*nt, cuz you are devoid of compassionate intelligence for others concerning this issue. As long as you had a pleasant day then everything is good with the world, that’s your view. Well, congratulations, you just proved to yourself and the world you don’t give a damn about anyone but yourself.
Islamic Society of Central Queensland president Binil Kattiearambil said welcoming 200 people through the doors of the mosque aimed to demystify their community.
What the hell does that mean? “demystify.” There’s no mystery here, we know exactly what muslims and islam are about. They are taking over, subverting and destroying our culture for islam and robbing us of our freedoms, not to mention the rape and terror that comes with it. So a handful of muslims got together and hosted a hijab party, and from that we’re supposed to ignore the monumental threat to our existence as a culture and nation? Listen, the hijab should never be “nice to experience” while countless women are mistreated and killed for not wearing it, and we should never stop caring about our security and culture because some idiot had a “pleasant day” wearing a hijab. We are not dumb animals to be led by false displays of religious piety and praise, we are responsible citizens that love our country and value peace and freedom over religious slavery. So please, f*ck off.
And one final gripe, I love that parting shot at the article’s end: “There are a few instances, maybe a shove of a trolley at a supermarket, but you expect that everywhere,”
I wouldn’t say “everywhere,” only where you have invading muslims who disrespect the culture for a demonic religion that overtly threatens their existence. In that case, yes, you would expect it, because people are frightened and angry as any normal person when their entire existence is threatened with annihilation. That’s not islamophobia, it’s an understandable response to a real world threat of the worst possible kind.
Anjuli Pandavar says
Agostino Armo Pellegrini, thank you. I was so angry at reading this that I didn’t know how to start writing a response. You’ve said everything that I would’ve said, only you managed to do it coherently and with astonishingly few expletives — the epitome of restraint.
What I find so galling about this sort of thing is the sheer brazenness of it. They have nothing but contempt for these ignorant women who can be enticed to try out an afternoon’s dollying-up to experience for themselves how wonderful it is not “to wear the hijab” — those are just the words on the poster — but how wonderful it is “to be a Muslim woman*. That’s the real subtext here. And of course that’s exactly what these ignorant infidel women go away with. Try to tell them afterwards what the hijab really means and how many women die for not wearing it and they’ll argue with you about how nice it was to wear it so what’s the big deal if that’s their culture? and besides, those Muslim women were ever so nice and how they’d really like to get hold of those recipes and hope they’ll invite them for a cooking class, etc. etc. This is jihad! Islam is on the move on every front, and in Australia it seems women are its frontline troops.
Agostino Armo Pellegrini says
“I was so angry…”~Anjuli
We’re both angry because we’re decent people who don’t like female abuse for stupid religious ideas. There are plenty of people like you and me, but we’re beaten down by crazy and irresponsible PC policies and laws that squelch our legitimate human rights concerns. Just look at Britain and Germany, what a mess for their citizens. They can’t speak out, all they can do is lay down and get raped in every possible way. I don’t want that for America, nobody who loves freedom and peace would want that. I suspect you feel the same way, that’s why we seem to be of one mind on the issue.
And you’re right about the recipes and cooking… isn’t islam lovely? Gag. It’s jihad in the kitchen, gently trying to teach us with smiles and giggles how to disempower women for islamic culture and religion. “There now, don’t you look special in that hijab, so pretty, so… submissive.” This kind of jihad is just as deadly as the bombs and knives they kill us with, maybe more so. It’s this widespread but subtle subversion that lulls so many into complacency in my opinion. And our leftist politicians and media play right along with the charade and only make things worse. They hope we look at this and say, “Gee, muslims are so sweet and nice, they’d never want to hurt us,” even though their bigoted political religion has compelled them to violence for 1400 years. “We had such a lovely day at the mosque, we had cookies and they let me wear a hijab! oh, goodie! We were so wrong about muslims and islam! even though that one experience is not at all reflective of the larger painful reality of widespread abuse in islam. It’s an attempt to obfuscate the issue at the expense of personal freedom and safety for millions of muslim women. In short, it’s evil that’s how I feel about it.
Thanks for talking with me. I won’t let islam ruin my day, nor should you.:))

It’s the mandatory part about the wearing of the hijab that bothers me. If it were a symbol of achievement, something the woman had to earn in order to wear, something that meant she had worked and studied long hours, had endured self-denial, suffering and physical hardship and then passed some sort of difficult test in order to achieve her dream of being awarded the right to wear the hijab, then I might feel differently. As it is it’s just something anyone can wear and many women wear it only because they are told they must. There is really no value to it. It’s worthless ……. except perhaps for keeping a woman’s head warm on a cold day.
When something worthless becomes mandatory to wear, it does represent oppression.

The hijab & the burqa — the shrouds of repression, the veils of oppression & the flags of fundamentalism are not religious garments, nor religious requirements. They’re political ones. They’re signs of segregation, separation & a rejection of western culture & values — including the values of acceptance & tolerance of the other — hence, even non-Muslim women are denigrated & disrespected if they don’t wear them. But they have nothing to do with region. They’re derived from a Saudi tradition called Nejd, which treats women as a sexualised objects, which must be covered so men can control their sexual urges — it’s a wonder they haven’t forced them on all females in the world of mammals altogether. However, thanks to the left’s essentialist perceptions & bigotry of low expectations. They refuse to believe Muslims have different attitudes towards culture, tradition, values, politics & tolerance. And so insist there’s something wrong with criticising the practice & even go so far as trying to push them on all women. Including non-Muslims. As if they were some sort of a moral & religious virtue to be admired — because these venal feminists aren’t feminists — they’re ignorant, shallow imbeciles. And no woman with a shred of intelligence, dignity & self-respect would ever consider herself a feminist now. “Muslim women in Queensland are harnessing people’s interest in the headscarf to start conversations within their community.” Conversation starting? “Harnessing” is an apt word for wearing the hijab. “Starting conversations” and “sharing one’s culture,” as in this Queensland event is clearly Muslim proselytizing for Islam – dawah.
Most western women are already familiar with wearing a muffler, or neck, scarf worn around the head and neck in cold weather; there is zero need to demonstrate the “feel” or “experience” of wearing a hijab.

There are some Islamic laws that I fully endorse. I especially like the one where a man can have 4 wives at one instance. I need 4 wives. One to clean, one to cook, one to drive, and one to go to work and bring money back home. Win/Win situation for the wives and me..

Let all muslim males wear hijab or niqab – not their females. Then the world would be a better place.
