Hugh Fitzgerald: The Saudis and the Killing of Jamal Khashoggi (Part Two)

Oct 17, 2018 7:15 am By Hugh Fitzgerald

The killing of Jamal Khashoggi reminds us that the Saudi rulers, and the Crown Prince, are well-versed in the use of violence. They are determined to keep themselves in power, and to keep the colossal wealth to which they help themselves. The 15,000 Saudi royals are collectively worth $1.7 trillion; they are not about to let go of any of it. Jamal Khashoggi, though not a royal, began life as well-connected as any commoner in Saudi Arabia could be. His grandfather was the personal physician to King Abdelaziz Al Saud. His uncle was Adnan Khashoggi, who through his connections in the Saudi government made $4 billion dollars as an arms dealer. His cousin was Dodi Fayed, Princess Diana’s last boyfriend, and the son of the billionaire businessman Mohamed Fayed.

Khashoggi has been a leading journalist since the 1970s. He’s been the chief editor of Al Madina (one of the oldest papers in the kingdom), worked as a columnist for Al-Arabiya, served as a media advisor to Prince Turki al Faisal when he was the Saudi ambassador to the United States, and has been a frequent guest both on Saudi television and on such international channels as MBC, BBC, Al Jazeera, and Dubai TV. He became the editor-in-chief of Al Watan twice, and on the second occasion, he quickly got into hot water for publishing a column by the poet Ibrahim al-Almaee challenging the basic Salafi premises. This led to Khashoggi’s seemingly forced resignation. On May 17, 2010, Al Watan announced that Khashoggi resigned as editor-in-chief “to focus on his personal projects.” However, it is thought that he was forced to resign due to official displeasure with articles published in the paper that were critical of the Kingdom’s harsh Islamic rules; the one by al-Almaee was the last straw.

In December 2016, the Independent, citing a report from Middle East Eye, said Khashoggi had been banned by Saudi Arabian authorities from publishing or appearing on television “for criticising US President-elect Donald Trump.” That led Khashoggi to move permanently to the United States.

Khashoggi began writing for the Washington Post in September 2017, and still was contributing pieces up to the time of his death. In the Post, he criticized the Saudi-led blockade against Qatar, Saudi Arabia’s dispute with Lebanon, Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic dispute with Canada, and the Kingdom’s crackdown on dissent and the media. But he also supported some of Crown Prince’s reforms, such as allowing women to drive. He condemned the arrest of Loujain al-Hathloul, Eman al-Nafjan, Aziza al-Yousef, and several other women’s rights advocates involved in the women-to-drive movement and the anti male-guardianship campaign. He opposed the Saudi-Israel alliance.

By 2017, Khashoggi, who had two million Twitter followers, was the best known pundit in the Arab world. He has been hailed in the West as a progressive, but that is a case of misunderstanding his aims. Khashoggi believed in spreading Islamic rule, the same goal as that of any Jihadi, but he wanted to achieve that goal through political Islam. He joined the Muslim Brotherhood in the 1970s and remained true to it, even praising it in a Washington Post column. Some described him as the de facto leader of the Saudi branch of the Muslim Brotherhood. The Crown Prince, on the other hand, believes that the Muslim Brotherhood is a danger to the Kingdom, that is, to his family’s continued rule.

Khashoggi flourished in Washington during the last year. He became a regular guest on the major TV news networks in Britain and the United States, as well as a columnist for the Washington Post. In 2018 Khashoggi established a new political party, in the West, called Democracy for the Arab World Now, which — had he lived — could have become a major political threat to Crown Prince Mohammed.

During this past year, there have been many Saudi emissaries — “businessmen” — who met with Khashoggi in Washington, to promise him he would be safe if he returned to the Kingdom; the Crown Prince, too, offered to make him an “advisor” if only he would return. He turned them all down, telling a friend that he would have to have been crazy to believe their assurances.

Khashoggi was not a secularist, not a Saudi Ataturk, as some in the West seem to think. He believed in Islam and wanted it to spread, but to do so through “democratic” means — the “political Islam” of, for example, Mohamed Morsi in Egypt or Rachid Ghannouchi in Tunisia. He disliked the Saudi family’s censorship of the media; he believed that criticism might weaken the hold of the Al-Saud, but strengthen the sinews of the state and of the Muslim Brotherhood. He knew how corrupt the Saudi system was, and knew, too, how unforgiving the Crown Prince could be. Yet he still maintained his faith that there were some limits to Saudi ruthlessness, which is why, on October 2, he went to the consulate in Istanbul. We see — as he suddenly saw, just before the murderers started in on him — that he was wrong.

I think a vast number of Muslims consider themselves good, moral people and by a certain human standard they might be right. But the test comes when their prophet is insulted or their religion is ridiculed. Those Muslims who react by terror, violence, hatred and cursings – which is almost obligatory for “good” Muslims in such cases – prove that their religion is nothing but barbarism. Compare this with the magnanimity expressed with the words and example for Christians: “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Such a spirit is totally alien to Islam that is permeated by feelings of resentment, pride and revenge.

I guess the Saudis sent out an invention for a “sit down” to settle their differences like mob families .We have Jaml Khashoggi the young up start like Tommy DeVito {played by Joe Pesci}in Goodfellas who thinks the Saudis will make him one of the royal members a made man to his surprise he gets wacked .With all the bad people this man was hook up with ,the America media gloss over the fact this man was playing both sides for his own advancement in the Islamic Jihad,s world. He practice Jihad with the pen and lost to Jihad of the sword when he threaten the Saudis power .The media has little concern for the thousands of daily stoning ,raping ,killing, done to little people of the world whose only wrong is not being Moslem ,or not being Moslem enough ,but we should show outrage for one of the Jihads who gets killed by revel Jihads. I still do not understand why they would kill him in the Saudi Embassy with all the Turks filming it 24/7? An accident in his car, a street crime , could have done the job drawing less attention endangering the American , Saudis arms sale. I do not like the Saudis , or trust them at all, I do not condone this murder, the MSM reaction to it like this guy is some kind of journalist Saint is over the top. He played footse too many times with very dangerous people to advance Jihad of the pen ,and got killed when he put himself in a bad position to have a “sit down” with in their embassy in Turkey. What he bough to the Saudis in their embassy or what he hope to accomplish there would be interesting to know, I do not believe the MSM story he had to do with his “future wedding.”.

So why should we care ? A Muslim faction is killing people who belong to another fraction . Excellent! Let’s make sure they do not run out of ammo.
I do not understand the indignation . It is as if when Hitler’s SS eliminated Hitler’s SA in the night of the long knives , we would ask the SS to respect human rights ! Some
Nazis killed some other Nazis . Why is this bad news?
As per the assasinated guy, why did he go into the consulate alone? Either he was stupid (no great loss) or in collusion with the Saudis (no great loss) .
As per democracy in Saudi , don’t make me laugh! I was there for work as well , and O can tell you when they get rid of them kings and princes whatever the hell comes out of it it will not be democracy . The Muslims just do not care .
The us should leave them alone to kill each other , supply them all with bullets, and, as for the oil , if they want to intervene somewhere , let them get rid of Maduro down in
Venezuela . The people there will thank them for it, there is more oil than in
Saudí A. , and it will be the Chinese and the Indians who will have to deal with those fanatics . Great!
The only issue here is: That man was an
Islamic supremacist what the hell was he doing in the States , and with a Green Card to boot?

Hugh, you described the background for this mayhem perfectly. Somehow, I suspect that a secondary target is actually DJT. Either the Turks or someone in the Saud clan is PO’d at DJT and would like to put him on the spot regarding this. Somehow, the MSM and leftists will insist, it is DJT’s responsibility and duty to right this wrong to the MSM’s anointed journalist.

For those not familiar with how the KSA came to be and how it works, here is the reader’s digest summary:

The Saud clan married with the Wahhab clan way back in the 1700’s, with the dual goal of clearing the Arabian peninsula of the hated Ottoman Turks, and restoring a pure and primitive Islam. WWI gave Abdul-Aziz the opportunity to kick out the Turks with the help of the Brits. A-A then went on to consolidate his hold on Arabia with the help of British artillery. You see, the Muslim Brotherhood (Ikhwan) was a part of A-A’s army. However, a bunch of them decided they did not need a king, let alone A-A, and rebelled. The MB that rebelled got whacked by A-A, so now you know that there is no love lost between the MB and the House of Saud. They hate each other.

This gets me to my second conclusion: I detest what the Saudi hit team did to Kashoggi, but why is that something the US in general, and DJT specifically can intervene in and fix? Another muslim v muslim battle that we should stay out of. By the way, if you think that the Saudi’s are nasty, the MB make them look like progressive humanitarians.

If Kashoggi was a known MB supporter and operative, he should never have been allowed here in the first place.

    …………………….

Apparently Donald Trump was so distraught by Khashoggi criticizing him that Khashoggi decided to move to the US where Trump is president…

Really, this says it all about the great freedom of speech in the US.

I doubt very much that this was the actual problem Saudi authorities had with him, in any case. What they hated was Khashoggi criticizing *them*.

As noted, though, that didn’t make Khashoggi–who had ties to the Muslim Brotherhood–any sort of advocate for freedom and democracy, either.

“They (the saudi rulers) are determined to keep themselves in power, and to keep the colossal wealth to which they help themselves….”

Built for themselves? Is this is a joke? No they jolly well have NOT! They had their colossal wealth built FOR THEM thanks to Western inventiveness, investment, and technical and financial expertise, because otherwise their oil would be worth nothing more than fuel for their silly little medieval lamps to light their tents as they trundled round the desert with their camels – no doubt whilst also robbing and beheading a few passing travellers on the way- assuming, that is, that they managed to work out how to get the substance out of the the ground (which is probably doubtful since they’d probably be too lazy to dig with their wooden spades for long enough). These people are the definitive global spongers who have proved nothing more than the possibility of obscene and totally undeserved self-aggrandisement on the backs of other people’s work andf talent, and have further proved their gross incompetence by demonstrating a truly amazing inability to conduct themselves with even a minimum of of basic civility. No doubt they might thank Allah for blessing them with good fortune – assuming, that is, that ‘Allah’ in this case can be taken as a pseudonym for Esso, or Gulf Oil, or BP, etc. etc. But then ‘Allah’ was just a pseudonym for some Dark Age criminal psychopath’s deslusions anyway.

The way the Saudi’s killed Khashoggi was a big crime. But he, himself should know that no muslim is to be trusted, if it is a Saudi, a turk, any . You can only trust them when they put fears and violence upon you, like we will conquer you, kill you, kill the jews, make you all slaves, before we kill you. THEN YOU CAN BELIEVE THEM,BECAUSE THEY WILL.
And Jayell, I agree with what you wrote, totally. Western companies, bankers and governments FOLLOW THE MONEY, no matter what happens anywhere and will turn around and accuse the ones who did this all, so then they will never be the guilty party and in that sense they are not. Yes the Westerners have some butter on their heads too.
But the thing is: THIS ALL HAS TO BE STOPPED, and now is the time for this earth, if we don’t, we will perish.
We will have to start over with a clean slate, we have to, there is NO OTHER WAY, but everyone continues their way of life and it is getting more terrible by the day. We had already 4 chances and we blew them completely, Now we passed the equinox finally, which is the great opportunity for all of us to move into a higher consciousness and the 4th and 5th dimension, and we just are going on in it seems worser ways. We will get nature disasters everywhere in the world, big disasters, because the earth has had enough of our misusing her so she shakes herself clean, and believe me, it is a big shake, people will perish, some species of animals. Why doesn’t anyone believe me? This is not a story made up by a goat wool sock person. You have eyes in your head and know it has started in 2012 already, nature is trying to tell you something, but you don’t want to listen and look and I know that in your heart you know it too. Luckily for you there are a few million people who are meditating and doing their utmost best to try to save this world, and if they were not doing their work, this world would have destroyed itself already. Bless them and one day you might want to thank them, but we are up to a world where people so misbehave in all facets, small and big, I still hope something will change in the human race. We are destroying people, we are so bad for the animals and nature. But believe me, we cannot go on like this. What you put in, you will get back at a point where you will least expect it and no stone will
stay on the other. All the old HAS TO GO. Make different choices, NOW. And at this moment, especially
Muslims. Your real prophet is appalled by you what you are doing. He never wrote your Qur’an the way it is now, He was no warlord. He went from Medina to Mecca with soldiers without weapons to protect Him, to teach people the same thing Jesus did. He wrote the original Qur’an with the Arch angel Gabriel.

But people who were not pleased with that destroyed all the original quar’ans and rewrote them, like the Bible story.
We got a chance every 60.000 years to become people with a higher consciousness. This will be the 5th chance and we better take that chance, otherwise we either get to live in this world for another 60.000 years the way it is going now and it will get worse or we perish. Habitants on other planets with higher consciousness look at us in amazement the way we behave.
But we can’t go on like this, because what happens here will touch other planets too and the Creator
will not allow that. Universal Laws are Universal Laws and can NEVER/ever be broken or set aside. God Is Love forever, soft as butter, but hard as nails.
You can never die, because you will come back and come back forever ,to better (I mean spiritually) yourselves. The Universe is magnificent. There are 88 Universes discovered by scientists, but there are millions of them and spreading forever, there is no end and it is really silly to think that we are the only living souls in our Universes. But a big event will be happening, I think and I hope it will be before 2020,
more I can not tell you, because may be The same fate will happen to me or worse, as to Mari Le Pen.

Because it has always happen to the people to try to make it a better world. That’s why the people who work at it are mostly working in secret, because nobody believes them and a lot are put in mental hospitals either by their family or others, because people don’t like the truth and especially not, the ones
who are only out to conquer the world, or are the lying ones and are making the money from the working class people, or crimes, or real refugees or from whatever dark sources, who stay on living in the deep dark places.God lives in each of us, there is a small peace in each of us, called the souls or the “higher self”. That is why the Creator knows everything about you, every deed ,every thought.
Nothing is hidden, nothing, you can not hide. He has given you free will, but that does not mean you can do what you want. It has to be beneficial for all. WE ARE ALL “ONE” All pieces of that one God.
And everything is known and you can connect with your higher self. And your higher self is always in connection with you, you can learn to listen to it. But that is another story. But nobody has to belief me,
and I don’t want to put anything on you, try to find out for yourself, and I hope you find what you need and believe me the human race needs it very much. And God knows we are not perfect, but He created a perfect earth for us, gave us all the food and water we needed, for All of us, gave us animals as company and the beautiful nature. We got terrible greedy and took so much food for ourselves and let the other people and animals die from hunger and thirst. We mined and put big holes in the earth for gold, expensive stones, oil, mining, football fields, topping of mountains for enormous mansions, only have medical help in rich countries, the Arab countries are worse, the royal families have a different car each days, imported slaves from other countries, took away their passports, so they can not run away,
All those richdoms were worked for by other people and the Arab countries used it all for themselves, not to better their countries, and I can go with lists of big companies, governments etc. too long a list!!!
We make wars about races, but I am “happy” today because I was reading that it is O.K. to be white!!!
Over the moon I am. I am wondering about the next group.Unbelievable!

I remember one interview with the President and the interviewer asked President Trump if he thought Putin was a murderer or a killer. The President said basically that so what? even if he were. There are lots of murderers. It happens. Bill Clinton gave the word to put a hit on bin Laden. They just couldn’t find bin Laden to accomplish the hit. This is the whole idea behind the whole James Bond series. 007, Licensed To Kill. It happens.

The killing of Khashoggi was an act of war against the United States because he was working for an American Newspaper. The attack by Saudi Arabia on 911 was an act of war against the United States. Therefore America can declare war against Saudi Arabia and this is what one of our Generals was already said. The world is not ruled by money. The trillions that the king might have cannot be used to prevent an American occupation. Russia will not support Islam, neither will China. If America turns on Islam. Islam will have no allies. Remember what happened to Jerusalem in AD 70. At first the Christians were blamed for the burning of Rome. Nero had married a Jewess. Upon finding out that the burning of Rome was the work of the Jews Nero ordered the destruction of Palestine and Jerusalem. Upon finding himself a traitor to Rome. Nero killed his wife, his son and himself. Trump could turn on Saudi Arabia, the Senate already has. When people find out that they have been a total ass, something breaks deep inside of them.
