Even though the Islamic State has lost most of its territory in Iraq and Syria, and with it the appearance of enjoying the favor of Allah upon its claim to be the caliphate, that claim still has a potent appeal for jihad groups worldwide. In Sunni Islamic law, only the caliph is authorized to declare offensive jihad; in the absence of a caliph, jihad can only be defensive (although that can be and has been interpreted elastically enough to include 9/11). In my book The History of Jihad From Muhammad to ISIS, I detail how the great Islamic caliphates of the past — the Umayyads, Abbasids, Ottomans, and others — pursued jihad relentlessly against Infidel states. Jihadis still think about those glory days, and want to relive them. And so now a new caliphate is growing in Indonesia.
“Fears an Islamic State stronghold is emerging in Indonesia as 63 terror groups in the region pledge allegiance to the ISIS leader,” by Lauren Ferri, Daily Mail Australia, October 11, 2018:
Fears are growing an Islamic State stronghold is emerging in Indonesia after 63 terror groups in the region pledged allegiance to the ISIS leader.
Indonesian Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu has warned lives could be lost unless action is not taken..
Mr Ryacudu is calling for the sharing of intelligence to be improved in order to protect the lives of civilians, The Australian reported.
Mr Ryamizard scheduled a meeting with Australian Defence minister Christopher Pyne in Jakarta on Thursday….
US counter-terror operations foiled plots to fly drones filled with explosives into police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, carry out suicide attacks in the State Palace in Jakarta and fire a rocket at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.
Mr Ryamizard also said 63 groups in Southeast Asia pledged allegiance to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
Countries in Southeast Asia responded last year after ISIS inspired terror groups attacked the Philippines city of Marawai, leaving more than 1,000 innocent people dead….

Indonesia has long been touted as the unassailable exemplar of Islam’s compatibility with democracy. One wonders whether the brash cynical apologist Mehdi Hassan will be riding out on his fantasy horse to fast-talk us into why Trump is responsible for this.
StellaSaidSo says
Prior to the influx of Saudi money into Indonesia, most Indonesian Muslims had a fairly relaxed attitude towards their religion, and Islam indeed seemed, in most areas, to be compatible with democracy. But with Saudi money and Saudi-funded mosques has come Saudi Islam, and there is nothing ‘relaxed’ about Wahhabism.

You underestimate the significance of the islamic revolution in Iran-one factor that pretty much galvanised the islamic world to greater efforts to implement as much of islamic pronciples and possible, and as time goes on, it means more and more of syariah.
The moderating effects of previous civilsations have long begun to wear off. Of course many moderates know the pitfalls of too much islamisation so they have to perpetuate the lie that islam is being interpreted wrongly by the purists.
I was born in Malaysia, educated there at a time when the British had just left; and I witnessed the gradual change to more extremism. But even during British rule, most of the Malays were always suspicious of the non Malays. I remember reading a Life magazine article, just after independance, where a prominent Malay politician when the journalist stated without the Chinese and others, Malaya would not be in any good shape economically; his retort was that he would be happier living in his kampong and eating with his fingers than to have any Chinese in the country. You could argue that this is ethnically motivated, not religiously motivated, but islam and malay ethnicity is inextricably intertwined.
My argument is that even without Saudi influence, Malaysia, Indonesia etc will slide down the path of “pure” islam.

No, not all Indonesian Muslims have engaged in Jihad–but then, not even all Afghan or Somalian Muslims have, either. One can say this about almost any large population of Muslims.
But the violence against Infidels in Indonesia was not all government action. For instance, much of the violence against Chinese have been by rioting Indonesian Muslims.

How often do we hear this? The implication that if one has not been to Dar-al-Islam and doesn’t have a large posse of Muslim pals, that one should not say anything critical of the horrors of Islam?
Indonesia may not be as horrific as some stretches of the Muslim world, but neither is it the bastion of moderation that is often presented. And the problem is not just Aceh, although it is even worse there.
But there is oppression, violence against religious minorities, and some of the horrors of Shari’ah there, such as child marriage–one in six marriages in Indonesia is to a child. And this is not just the government–these are in many cases the actions of ordinary Indonesian Muslims.

Some people seem to forget that islam is inextricably linked to Arabia. The Haj, Kaaba, Mo’s supposed birthplace, the place where supposedly, mo had a perfect islamic kingdom, all serve to keep islam and Arabia in a death embrace forever. Just ask all those visiting Mecca and ask how they feel.
The prophet of islam was devilishly clever in locking muslims to Arabia. My point is that muslims and Arabia are chained to each other.

Not just Saudi influence. As Indonesians and Malaysians get better educated in islam, it is inevitable that the supremacistic ideology of islam will play a part in influencing many of them to want to practise a ‘purer’ form of islam. Of course there are galvanising factors like the islamic revolution in Iran, and Saudi influence. But I believe, as they read and study their revisionist history eg the great Caliphate, the mythical Golden Age, etc, they will naturally incline to such views. The Hindu/Buddhist/Animistic past of Indonesia/Malaysia played a part in moderating islam in Indonesia, but this influence has long been waning, especially with islamic education being dished out in large quantities.
StellaSaidSo says
You are right about the moderating influence historically of other faiths and cultures on Indonesian Islam. It is also true that the trend towards stricter observance coincided with the influx of Saudi money, which got under way during the 1970s. The same thing happened in Malaysia, which has also become much more authoritarian, and is now basically a vassal state of KSA. The Saudis have not limited their largesse to Asian countries, of course; the West is now peppered with ostentatious new mosques, and the sharia police see that they are well-attended.

StellaSaidSo says
@ Mac
Diego Garcia?
Mac-101 says
Stella & Kuriakose: I haven’t thought on this for a while. Here are a few ideas I had base on imperfect info, much of which may NOT be true:
.
1. The Pilot in Command had spent at least a hundred and perhaps a couple hundred thousand dollars building his own realistic flight simulator in his house. The PIC spent hundreds of hours practicing short runway landings.
.
I was a US Army Aviator for 29 years with thousands of hours in the simulator. I would think that Malaysian Airlines would be happy to let him practice emergency maneuvers in their simulator as much as he wanted. I would think his pay in Malaysian would be significantly lower than in the States makin this a very significant expenditure on his part.
.
Did he practice ALL those reported hours on short field emergency landings for a reason? If he did on the company simulators eyebrows would have definitely been raised. He also supposedly taught others how to fly the aircraft in the simulators. Definitely point to Jihadi tendencies.
.
2. A crew member supposedly went missing who was NOT on that specific flight. The wiring connecting the transponder AND the separate wires that support the Rolls Royce engines supposedly run through the luggage compartment.
.
As we ALL know the aircraft quit sending out a transponder code. Also supposedly it stopped sending to Rolls Royce the engine health condition reports and their location. If this is true the someone tampered with them in flight, perhaps in the luggage compartment on a suicide mission to disable them.
.
3. As we ALL know Red China is hording tons of gold around the world. Much of the traffic comes through Malaysia. This is a total guess, but perhaps THEY ship them through the airliner in something, say large industrial batteries with just the plastic cases stuffed with gold bars on pallets. Customs is paid off to not look at them and some baggage handlers notice that this happens on a regular basis.
.
On a especially large shipment he notifies the PIC and THEY put their plan into operation. Also the PIC would have to review the loading plane to insure such a heavy concentrated load is properly located in the Aircraft for Weight and Balance purposes. So that the Aircraft would take off and fly properly.
.
4. So the PIC has his peep in the luggage compartment cut the wires before he freezes to death or his oxygen supply cuts off. Deviates to a small island or a desolate isolated jungle area and flies to a predetermined road hard field whatever, dumps the fuel, stalls the airliner right above it and belly flops the airliner onto the strip. Totaling the airliner and most likely killin all onboard. Peeps are on the ground with bull dozers and heavy equipment and recover the gold and clean up the mess so it will NOT be seen from above.
.
5. The gold are supposed to go to fund world wide Jihad. Who knows what happens.
.
6. This is ALL a guess usin my Aviation and Special Forces Intel skills. The thing they most likely didn’t do well is load up a large amount of crashed material and dump it in the sea a thousand miles away to be found in a couple weeks. Perhaps they could not do so without the plane or fishing boat tracked by satellite.
.
There used to be areas on the planet which were NOT covered by recon satellites at certain times. When I moved Nukes in the army back in the 1980s we loaded at specific times due to Russians havin no satellite coverage of the area. . If there still is dead times, I do NOT know.
.
7. All I do KNOW is where is “The rest of the story”?
.
I had more points but forgot in my old age since I did NOT think of this event for several years. Hopefully our Malaysia friend has a couple ideas on this flight.

Nigel Farage has sold out to Islam. Thank Goodness Nigel Farage is no longer leader of UKIP.
Farage told activists that the party was right to oppose Islamic extremism “but if dealing with Islamic fundamentalism becomes a battle between us and the entire religion, I’ll tell you the result: we’ll lose. We will simply lose.”
Adding: “We absolutely have to get that Muslim majority living in many of our towns and cities on our side, more attuned to Western values than some pretty hardline interpretations of the Qur’an.”

No matter how many Islamic terror groups , in Indonesia , or from any many nation, the Islamic agenda if those violent jihad terror organizations will come to nothing in the end . This is because the very foundation for and of the Islamic “state” is based on a book that is a religious hoax. The exact same may be truthfully said about all those Islamic terror groups which have pledged allegiance tithe Islamic “state” since they also have the same religious hoax and their foundation.
As this following essay explains .
The murderous ISIS jihad violence is based on the “holy book” of Islam the Koran, or as some call this religious book the Quran : “Is the Quran the Word of God or is it a fabrication of a man. Thus, is the Quran the truth or a fiction and a hoax ?” The jihadists, as those of ISIS, use many verses from the Quran as the main source of justification for their violence, mayhem and murders. As found in For example, 4:89. 5:33. 9:5,111,123. 47:4. There, the answer is clearly given on pages 145 through 157 in THE ISLAMIC INVASION by Robert Morey in which he wrote a section on the Quran with its self-contradictions. Just two of the many he cited are the following “The Quran differs on whether a day is a thousand years or fifty thousand years in God’s sight’ and “Who was first to believe? Abraham or Moses [Sura 6:14 versus 7:143]? The above is inconsistent and illogical. Further, Morey wrote about “The fact that Judaism and Christianity broke up into different sects was used in the Quran to prove that they are not of God [Suras 30:20-32. 42:13, 14]. Yet Islam has broken up into many warring sects and therefore cannot be true if the Quran is right.” Moreover, Morey in his book shows many more contradictions and absurdities in the Quran, there are and how Muhammad incorporated extra Biblical and Jewish folklore along with pre-Islamic Arabian myth and parts of Zoroastrian and Hindu stories into the Quran. Furthermore, the Muslims claim that “the Quran is the direct, literal word of God unmodified in any way by the Prophet who uttered them at the bidding of God.” Nevertheless, in the book UNVEILING ISLAM by Ergun Mehmet and Eethi Caner has shown that the Quran was modified in the following account on pages 45. “Muhammad felt the need to improve on the words of Allah, since he changed Allah’s wisdom for his own on several occasions. A hadith tells of the nonchalant emendations of Muhammad:’ On a number of occasions he [a scribe] had, with the Prophet’s consent changed the closing words of verses. For example, when the prophet had said ‘God is mighty and wise ‘ Adbollah b. Abi Sarh suggested writing down ‘Knowing and wise’ and the Prophet answered that there was no objection. Having observed a succession of changes of this type, Adbollah renounced Islam on the grounds that revelations, if from God could not be changed at the prompting of a scribe such as himself. After his apostasy he went to Mecca and joined the Qorayshites.’ Other writers reveal that later Muhammad and his people did go war with the Qorayshites and he personally killed Abdollah. Obviously Abdollah knew too much and Muhammad wanted Abdollah’s knowledge to die with him.” In conclusion, the Quran is not only a fiction, it’s also a hoax.
Walter Sieruk says
The jihadists who make up the Islamic “state” and now also the 63 jihad groups that have joined ISIS have the Qur ‘an to based their violent and murderous behavior on the instruction of violence and killing that is found in the Koran Sura 2:191. 4:89; 5:33. 9:5, 111,123. 47:4. For a more full understanding of the actual nature of the Koran a person need to look back in time before the coming of Muhammad and then the Koran. Back to the First Century AD which was the time of early Christian church. For the Early Christian Church had and now in modern times the Christian church still has the Gospel of Christ, First Corinthians 15:1-4. Much later, in time, came Muhammad and he gave much information, that many believe to be divine, some of which is said to have been obtained from an angle from heaven. This information was written down on different objects and things Those written words in different objects was then compiled together and then eventually went into the composition of what is now called the Koran, As some also call it the Qur’an. The Koran is actually, that is in reality, another gospel, apart and greatly different from the Gospel of the Christian Church. Such a thing was predicted in the Bible. For the Bible does warn about those who will come and offer to people another gospel other than the one shown above, First Corinthians 15:1-4. For it is warned about any other “gospel” in the Bible. For it is written in the Bible “Though we or an angle from heaven preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so I say now again, if any man preaches any other gospel unto you than ye have received, let him be accursed.” Galatians 1:8, 9. [K.J.V.] Therefore, the Koran is the result of the deception of a false prophet, Mathew 7:15., who may have come in contact with a fallen angle, a demon, So the imams and mullahs who preach it a truth to other are accused of and by God.
Walter Sieruk says
Those brutal vicious jihadist/ Muslims of ISIS, and now with those 63 jihad entities, with their murderous Islamic scheming for further jihad attacks in the USA and in the different countries of Europe is a awful and wicked reality. Those brutal and deadly jihad entity ISIS are actually putting in to the practice, with all their ruthless actions, the violence and killing that is part of the teaching of the “holy book” of Islam, the Koran. Which contain the doctrine of extreme violent force for the advancement of Islam. As seen in the Koran, for example, 2:191. 4:89. 5:33. 9:5,111,123. 47:4. So in spite of the strong denials by many, ISIS is an actual Islamic organization. Likewise the malicious, bloodthirsty violence jihadists who make up ISIS are real Muslims. Nevertheless, there are some who might , understandably, wonder and then ask “Just how can those jihadists of ISIS ,being so very religious , also at the time also be so very malice-filled ,unfeeling and deadly ? “ The answer to that question is found in the Bible. For the Bible teaches that there are some people who are extremely heartless, cold, callous and dangerous because they have had “their conscience seared with a hot iron.” First Timothy 4:2. [ K.J.V.] In this case of the members of ISIS this “hot iron” is Islam.
Furthermore ,on the date of 9/25/ 18 President Trump during a speech declared “ISIS has been driven out of Iraq and Syria.” This is both a truth and a triumph .so far so good. This is actually very good.
Likewise, the scholar and author, Robert Spencer, in his latest book which has the title of THE HISTORY OF JIHAD FROM MUHAMMAD TO ISIS . For on page it reads “When Donald Trump replaced Barack as president of the United States, Iraqi forces and other began rolling up the Islamic State strongholds, such that within a year of the beginning of the Trump presidency , the Islamic State had lost nine-eight of its territory .”
As good as the collapse of that Islamic “state” is we must not remember that the source and inspiration for and of that vicious and murderous jihad entity, ISIS, has not collapsed .Therefore we should not let our guard down regarding such heinous dangers. The source and inspiration is Islam.
