The media tries to destroy opposition to Sharia, a political system. My latest in PJ Media:
It’s a “disturbing trend,” says Asma T. Uddin, a Muslim attorney, in the New York Times: “In recent years, state lawmakers, lawyers and influential social commentators have been making the case that Muslims are not protected by the First Amendment. Why? Because, they argue, Islam is not a religion.”
What it is, say Uddin’s targets, is a political system: “John Bennett, a Republican state legislator in Oklahoma, said in 2014, ‘Islam is not even a religion; it is a political system that uses a deity to advance its agenda of global conquest.’ In 2015, a former assistant United States attorney, Andrew C. McCarthy, wrote in National Review that Islam ‘should be understood as conveying a belief system that is not merely, or even primarily, religious.’ In 2016, Michael Flynn, who the next year was briefly President Trump’s national security adviser, told an ACT for America conference in Dallas that ‘Islam is a political ideology’ that ‘hides behind the notion of it being a religion.’ In a January 2018 news release, Neal Tapio of South Dakota, a Republican state senator who was planning to run for the United States House of Representatives, questioned whether the First Amendment applies to Muslims.”
Merriam Webster defines “religion” as “a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices.” Islam certainly qualifies as a religion by that definition. Religions profess to connect human beings to the divine. Islam professes to do that. At the same time, however, it is also a political system that is authoritarian, supremacist, discriminatory, expansionist, violent, and aggressive.
Asma T. Uddin must be aware of that fact but ignores it entirely, instead giving the impression that Sharia is simply religious law, and opposition to Sharia is simply motivated by religious bigotry and “Islamophobia.”
In reality, Islamic law’s political aspects contradict Constitutional principles and American freedoms in numerous particulars, including: its denial of the freedom of speech; the institutionalized discrimination against women, non-Muslims, and other groups; its death penalty for apostasy from Islam and for homosexual activity, and more.
At a certain point there must be a national discussion about whether religious freedom grants Muslims the right to break other laws, or whether the aspects of Sharia that contradict American law are unwelcome in the United States.
Asma T. Uddin and the New York Times are trying to foreclose upon that discussion by muddling the issue.
“The laws’ backers, Uddin claims, “seem to see them as necessary stopgaps to protect against their imagined Muslim takeover of America. When an Idaho state representative, Eric Redman, a Republican, introduced his anti-Shariah bill in January, he said it was needed so that ‘foreign law’ would not ‘defile our constitutional laws’ and to ‘protect our state and our country.’ That’s a similar sentiment to the one expressed by the conservative political activist Pamela Geller, who argued in a 2016 commentary published by Breitbart that Muslim women seeking accommodations to wear a head scarf in the workplace are part of a ‘Muslim effort to impose Islam on the secular marketplace.’”
Islam has always been political. Its political aspect has always been considered intrinsic to its nature. On this, the historical record is clear. My new book The History of Jihad From Muhammad to ISIS shows definitively, from primary source material, that everywhere Islam has gone, it has gone as a political entity, and waged war against other political entities.
Asma T. Uddin and the New York Times are relying upon your ignorance of Islamic law and Islamic history to manipulate you into thinking that Sharia is benign and compatible with the United States’ character as a free society, even though every society where Sharia has ever been implemented has not been free.
Wherever Sharia has been the law of the land, throughout Islamic history and in Saudi Arabia, Iran, and other areas of the Islamic world today, it has had largely the same character. That character has never resembled liberal democracy by any stretch of the imagination. Sharia polities throughout history and today have denied the freedom of speech and the freedom of conscience, and they have mandated discrimination against women and non-Muslims.
Many non-Muslims mistakenly believe that relatively free and Westernized majority-Muslim states — principally Turkey, at least until recently — demonstrate the compatibility of Sharia with understandings of human rights that are otherwise universally accepted. This is, however, a fundamental misapprehension: Turkey and other relatively Westernized Muslim countries have not been governed by Sharia at all, but instead by legal codes imported from the West.
In fact, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk established the modern-day Turkish republic as a defiant rejection of sharia and an explicit determination to establish a Western-style state, free from the strictures of Islamic law. Such states don’t have a different, more expansive version of Sharia — they don’t have Sharia at all.
This is the focus of anti-Sharia laws: to prevent this authoritarian and oppressive political and social system from eroding the freedoms we enjoy as Americans. It is plainly disingenuous to claim that anti-Sharia laws would infringe upon Muslims’ First Amendment rights to practice their religion. As Thomas Jefferson said, “it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.” Only when your neighbor believes his god commands him to pick your pocket or break your leg do his beliefs become a matter of concern for those who do not share them.

If Islam had left off in Mecca, then maybe it could be classified as a religion. Since it didn’t leave off there and was expounded upon in Medina, it is a political system and not merely some innocent religion. It’s very naive to call Islam a religion.

Mohammed said: JIHAD is the ‘ORIGINAL ISLAM’:
Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar:
I heard the Apostle of Allah say: When you enter into the inah transaction (become businessmen), hold the tails of oxen (become cattlemen), are pleased with agriculture (become farmers), and give up CONDUCTING JIHAD, Allah will make disgrace prevail over you, and will not withdraw it until you return to your ORIGINAL RELIGION. – Sunan Abu Dawud Book 23, Number 3455
MUSLIMS MUST MAKE ALLEGIANCE TO JIHAD:
Narrated Mujashi: My brother and I came to the Prophet and I requested him to take the pledge of allegiance from us for migration. He said, “Migration has passed away with its people.” I asked, “For what will you take the pledge of allegiance from us then?” He (Mohammed) said, “I will take (the pledge) for Islam and jihad.” – Bukhari 4,52,208
‘PEACEFUL’ MUSLIMS ARE ‘HYPOCRITES’
“It is only those who believe not in Allah and the Last Day and whose hearts are in doubt that ask your leave (to be exempted from jihad).” – K. 9.45
“But when a decisive surah (explaining and ordering things) is sent down, and fighting (holy fighting in Allah’s Cause) is mentioned (i.e. ordained) therein, you will see those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) looking at you with a look of one fainting to death…” – K. 47:20
MOHAMMED CALLS ‘PEACEFUL’ MUSLIMS ‘RUBBISH/GARBAGE’
“Prophet Muhammad said; It is expected that the nations will call other nations to share them against you (Muslims) as the eaters call each other to eat from the food in front of them in a large wooden plate A person asked, Will that happen because of our small number on that day? The Prophet said, No. Your number will be great, but you will be rubbish like the rubbish of flood-water. And certainly Allah will remove from the hearts of enemies the fear of you and surely Allah will throw Wahn in your hearts. A person asked, What is Wahn, O Messenger of Allah? The Prophet said, Wahn is to love this world and to hate death.” – Abu Dawud 4284
Mohammed’s words CLARIFY that Islam is the RELIGION OF JIHAD TERRORISM and not ‘peace’.

Quotes of the German officer Carl von Clausewitz:
“War is merely the continuation of policy by other means.”
“War is thus an act of force to compel our enemy to do our will.”
The synthesis of Carl von Clausewitz’s examination of the nature of war is his famous “trinity,” saying that war is “a fascinating trinity—composed of primordial violence, hatred, and enmity, which are to be regarded as a blind natural force; the play of chance and probability, within which the creative spirit is free to roam; and its element of subordination, as an instrument of policy, which makes it subject to pure reason.”
Von Clausewitz must have been inspired by the perennial islamic quest for world dominance.

Islamic religious authorities tell us that Islam IS a religion, but not like other religions. Here is one such explanation:
A Complete Code of Life
by Dr. Muhammad al Alkhuli
Islam is a religion, but not in the western meaning of religion. The western connotation of the term “religion” is something between the believer and God. Islam as a religion organizes all aspects of life on both the individual and national levels. Islam organizes your relations with God, with yourself, with your children, with your relatives, with your neighbor, with your guest, and with other brethren. Islam clearly establishes your duties and rights in all those relationships. Islam establishes a clear system of worship, civil rights, laws of marriage and divorce, laws of inheritance, code of behavior, what not to drink, what to wear, and what not to wear, how to worship God, how to govern, the laws of war and peace, when to go to war, when to make peace, the law of economics, and the laws of buying and selling.
Islam is a complete code of life.
Walter Sieruk says
Concerning this new feeling and idea of some people that “Islam is not a religion.” The answer to the outlandish idea is that Islam is ,indeed, a religion by every definition that a person might find who looks it up in any reference book. To be even more specific according to the Bible Islam is a religion that was founded and started by a false prophet, Matthew 7:15. First John 4:1. That false prophet then started and founded a false religion. A false religion, by Christian definition , is a religion that had doctrines and teaching that are in contradiction to the Bible, Isaiah 8:20. First John 5:20.
This false religion, of Islam is the fruit of a false prophet ,Muhammad ,who was inspired into action by Satan to establish a deceptive false religion to lead many people astray from the Jesus of the Bible . ,Proverbs 14:12. John 14:6. First John 2:21-24. 5:10-13, and thus away from eternal life
Islam is a religion as a deceptive dangerous one at that.
Honest Ali says
Declaring Islam to not be a religion is simply wishful thinking. Yes, it would magically, and conveniently remove the First Amendment protections, allowing us to much more easily resist it, as we did Communism… But magic don’t exist in the real world.
Muslims are following the commands of God, as laid out by Mohamed… in order to go to Heaven and avoid Hell, and to be closer to God. Jihad is God’s covenant with the believers in exchange for Paradise.
Islam is a religion, an evil religion, but a religion nonetheless.
Sorry, but we have another 1,000 years of trying to solve with this very difficult problem. So teach and prepare your children and grandchildren so that they will fight, and endure all suffering, and die, rather than submit to that evil religion.
Walter Sieruk says
Islam does qualify as a religion in even sense and by every definition. Nevertheless, the most important question a person ask is the question Is Islam the one true religion or in great contrast Is Islam a false religion which has many false doctrines because it was started by a false prophet who was inspired by Satan to lead many people astray and straight into hell.
Therefore, who does Islam measure up to the light of the Bible ?
Islam’s denies of the Bible’s doctrines of and about the actual nature of Jesus is blasphemous. For Islam denies that Jesus is the Son of God. That is the Son of God the Father. Likewise, Islam denies the Jesus is God the Son. What blasphemy! For the Bible does, indeed, teach that Jesus is the Son of God, Matthew 3:16,17. First John 2:22 23. As well as hat Jesus is God the Son, Hebrews 1:8. First John 5:20. As a former Muslim who is now a Christian had explained “In the Son, the real issue of belief is certainty entering the Kingdom of heaven in the life and the full Deity of God lives in Him. He therefore is able to transfer people to the heavenly kingdom and unite them with God.” [1] The last three words, “them with God” meaning God the Father. The Bible confirms this about the Deity of the Son. The Bible teaches “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form.” Colossians 2:9. [N.I.V.] Therefore, in the Light of the Bible, Islam is religion but a false religion, Isaiah 8:20. John 14:6.

I have no problem calling Islam a religion. Indeed, I for one certainly think it is. Here in America, I don’t think one could find a single federal judge, whether at the District Court level, the Circuit Court level or the Supreme Court level, who would deny Islam is a religion for First Amendment purposes. What I have a problem with is when Islam is described as anything positive. Islam is a religion all right but a very evil religion. And I would ask anyone who asserts that Islam is not a religion, where is it written that a religion must be good?
For the record, I am not religious in the least, but of the major religions of the world I think none of them evil—except Islam. Proper characterization of Islam as a malevolent and freedom-destroying religion is the far better route to follow than the route which avers that Islam is not a religion.
Also, Islam as a political totalitarian ideology is certainly the case, but even here it is protected by the First Amendment just as two other political totalitarian ideologies are, i.e., Marxism and Nazism. So, even if Islam were denied First Amendment protection as a religion (ain’t gonna’ happen), it would still be a protected belief system just as Marxism and Nazism are. Thus, proper characterization of Islam as malevolent is the key to dealing with it and not the arid, high theory approach of arguing that Islam is not a religion. Doing so, i.e., maintaining that Islam is not a religion, is a complete waste of time. Indeed, it distracts from the best strategy to pursue in thwarting Islam’s iniquitous designs on Western freedom, equality under the law, romantic love (really any love), alcohol, music and a whole nine yards of wonderful things that Islam in its rottenness and stupidity finds haram.

Well, try telling this to the entire American judiciary. Also, don’t forget that the First Amendment protects virtually any belief but not all actions engaged in based on belief (e.g., one can be a Satanist but if your stupid, pathetic Satanism requires a human sacrifice once a year, this is not protected). Belief v. action is key to a proper understanding of the First Amendment.

Of course Islam is a real religion. It’s not like everyone says, that it’s a religion in name only. That it uses the trappings of religion as cover for a supremacist, totalitarian ideology masquerading as a religion. I mean really, what legit religion doesn’t instruct its followers to straight up kill unbelievers, murder apostates, stone adulterers, flog blasphemers, cut off the hands of thieves, throw gays off buildings, exterminate Jews and impose the faith on everyone in the world by waging holy war in the name of an invisible super being in order to spend eternity in a male sex-fantasy afterlife? Oh, it’s a religion all right. A really, really messed up religion.
It’s rich that we should be lectured on religious liberty by someone who has got to be well aware that wherever Islam calls the shots, religious liberty for non Muslims is NON-EXISTENT. She whines about communities objecting to more Mosque construction, but good luck trying to build a church or synagogue in a Muslim country. Hypocrisy doesn’t seem a strong enough word for this blatant double standard, but with Islam it’s ALWAYS a one way street.

what religion doesn’t teach that? how about … buddhism, jainism, hinduism, zoroastrianism, christianity, shinto, confucianism, … what have U been smokin’, TKF? U need to take a look at what the *religion* teaches, not at what its adherents say and do. with all the religions i mentioned, i’m pretty sure that *none* of them encourages hatred of and murder of unbelievers (christianity is the only one i’m certain about, but still…). one can always take an adherent of one of these religions, show him the scriptures he venerates, and show him that he is wrong to do those things. this is *not* to say that he won’t still go around raping, murdering, and looting, but he will do it in repudiation of his own religion.
if one goes to a pious muslim who is beheading people, setting off IEDs to kill little girls, and so forth, however, one will find that islamic scriptures *encourage* him to do it. he is pious and full of murderous rage almost certainly because he has already read extensively in islamic scriptures. to the best of my knowledge, islam is the only “religion” that does that. if U have evidence that any other religion teaches the evil that islam does, please *DON’T* hesitate to correct me!

Stendec says
Islam is not a religion because it defines right and wrong, good and bad, in strictly political terms. Whatever action, no matter how violent or duplicitous, that spreads Islamic political control–that is, that influences who rules over whom in the temporal world–is defined by Islam as right and good and thus deserving of fawning praise and unfettered support from members of the cult. Whatever action, no matter how innocuous or accommodating, that somehow impedes Islamic political control, is defined by Islam as wrong and bad and deserving of violent, even murderous, punishment meted out by members of the cult. Thus, the fundamentals of Islam are crassly political. The religious trappings of Islam are intentional distractions and mis-characterizations, employed solely for the purpose of waging, through deception, a war of subjugation–to achieve totalitarian political control over the entire world. By these conniving deceptions, cult members (Muslims) are fooled into wasting their lives in service to the political goal of enslaving others, while people outside the cult–the intended victims (non-Muslims)–are distracted and disoriented so they do not recognize the political yoke that is planned for them until it is too late to mount a defense.

May be NOW it would work! But, not the UN which is inflicted by Muslims and Muslim’s lovers.
James Lincoln says
I am not a legal scholar, but I believe that a national anti-sharia law should be passed in the United States while President Trump is in office. This would supersede the patchwork of anti-sharia laws passed in some states.
Muslims would still be able to practice a nonthreatening sanitized version of Islam – no threats, etc., to infidels coming from the imams at the mosques.
Isn’t that what every clear thinking person in the United States should want?
Walter Sieruk says
There is now a very strange idea going around the Islam is not really a religion. What an absurd idea. That is idea is totally wrong, for Islam has its own god, Allah. So Muslims have a strong firm and unquestioning faith in this Islamic god. One dictionary definition is “The serve and worship of God or the supernatural.”[1] Another dictionary definition is “Recognition of and belief in a superhuman power or powers to whom obedience, reverence, and worship is due” [2] As one reference book reveals “The term ’religion’ means adherence to a set of beliefs of teachings about the deepest and most elusive of life’s mysteries. The word comes from an ancient Latin root [religo] that means ‘to bind” or ‘to obligate’” [3] Islam cover all the above on this list. Furthermore, the term “to obligate” alone tells much as the Muslim obligation to at one on his or her life to made a pilgrimage to Mecca Likewise, a Muslim is obligated to pray at least five specific time each day. This is to mention only two of the many obligations that Islam requires. How about the late John Dewey? He defined religion as “Any activity pursued in behalf of an idea and against obstacles and in spite of threats of personal loss because of conviction…” Wel, l this last definition even covers the Muslims who hard core militant jihadists, a few as they be compare to number of non-violent peaceful Muslims. The point is Islam is very much a religion. This leads to the question is Islam a religion that has true or false doctrines?
The way for a person to discover the truth concerning the nature of Jesus is found in the Bible verse Isaiah 8:20. This instructs “To the law of the testimony. If they do not speak according to the word, it is because there is no light in them.” [N.K.J.V.] In other words, if a religious teacher has teaching that are in contradiction to the Word, the Bible, then that teachers is a false teacher who teaches false doctrines. The Muslim clerics, as the imam and mullahs, teach and speak doctrines about God from the Quran .
As the Quran in 112 teaches “He is God alone: God is the eternal begetteth not…” Likewise, this religious book which is the entire foundation of and for Islam further teaches in 19:35. “It is not befitting to God that He should beget a son.” In great contrast the Bible teaches in John 1:14. “The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory , the glory of the only begotten of the Father ,full of grace and truth.” Likewise John 3:16 teaches “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son… Then just a little further in verse 18 it is written about Jesus Who is “the only begotten Son of God. “ Other places in the Bible further teach that Jesus is the Son of God as in Matthew 16:15:16. Luke 1:35. John 3:36. First John 4:14. 15. 5:14,15. Moreover to be even more clear the Bible teaches that Jesus is the Son of God, Who is God the Father. As found in Matthew 3:16,17. First John 2:22,23. 4:14,15. Of course , it ,very much, needs to made even more specific . The Bible teaches that Jesus is also God the Son. As seen in Hebrew1:8 and First John 5:20. The imams and mullahs as well as the other apologists for Islam will try to “explain” this all away. As in they will try brush off all those Bible verse off by making the claim that the Bible had been corrupted, through time, by Christians and that’s why the Bible reads as it does. That claim they make actually underestimate the Power of God to protect and keep His Word safe and intact, through time, and away from the corruption of men.
In conclusion ,with the above instruction of the way to find doctrinal truth in Isaiah 8:20 and in the light of the Bible verse provided it may be clearly seen, by all those who are willing to see, that Islam is in terrible doctrinal error and it is therefore a false religion, Proverbs 14:12. John 14;6.

Aussie Infidel says
This argument will continue until the US legislates an acceptable definition of what they mean by a religion. Islam includes a belief in the supernatural, so that makes it a religion. But it includes the use of violence to establish and maintain the religion, which also makes it a criminal political ideology.
The question should be not be whether Islam is or is not a religion – that’s already established – but whether that religion is acceptable in a Western nation, and whether it is a threat to national security. Clearly, from its 1,400 year long bloodthirsty history of 270 million people slaughtered or enslaved, Islam has no place in any civilized society; and it should be declared a threat to national security and banned forthwith. If Islam is not stopped in its tracks, its jihadis will continue to attack non-Muslims “wherever they find them” (Quran 9:5), until it subjugates the world for Allah.
Islam must be banned or Western civilization will perish. It’s as simple as that. And our window of opportunity is shrinking rapidly.

Well if the west & Europe weren’t stupid enough to start treating Jews as a race. Then made it a crime to criticse them & their religion. Which is very similar to Islam anyway. Then they wouldn’t now be cornered into doing the same for Islam. Next will be Buddhism, Hinduism & everything else you can think of. Whilst Christianity will still be a free-for-all. Which is why they all need to be sent back to whence they came. Especially since no one’s more keen on flooding us with Muslims & third-world barbarians, than the Jews! I’ve had a gut-full of appeasing the lot of them. It’s simple now as far as I’m concerned. Return them all to sender. They have their own respective nations. That’s where they should stay. I’m over them. And I’m not alone. The paradox of tolerance is real.
