Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Robert Spencer in PJ Media: Why Would the Washington Post Hire Someone Like Jamal Khashoggi?

Oct 23, 2018 1:35 pm By Robert Spencer

The Post hired an Islamic hardliner, and is now trying to cover its tracks. My latest in PJ Media:

The Washington Post is indignant that “hard-line Republicans and conservative commentators are mounting a whispering campaign against Jamal Khashoggi,” supposedly in order to “protect President Trump from criticism of his handling of the dissident journalist’s alleged murder by operatives of Saudi Arabia.”

The Post hits these “hardliners” for highlighting Khashoggi’s ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, and claims that “while Khashoggi was once sympathetic to Islamist movements, he moved toward a more liberal, secular point of view.”

In reality, Khashoggi was the real hardliner, supporting jihad violence and Sharia right up to the time of his murder — even in his recent Post columns. This raises questions about why the paper hired him as a columnist in the first place.

As recently as August 28, 2018, Khashoggi wrote in the Post:

The United States’s aversion to the Muslim Brotherhood, which is more apparent in the current Trump administration, is the root of a predicament across the entire Arab world. The eradication of the Muslim Brotherhood is nothing less than an abolition of democracy and a guarantee that Arabs will continue living under authoritarian and corrupt regimes.

While positing the Muslim Brotherhood as the standard-bearer of democracy in the Arab world, Khashoggi did not deny that its aspiration is to impose Sharia wherever it can. He wrote: “There can be no political reform and democracy in any Arab country without accepting that political Islam is a part of it.” And he warned: “It is wrong to dwell on political Islam, conservatism and identity issues when the choice is between having a free society tolerant of all viewpoints and having an oppressive regime.”

Would Muslim Brotherhood rule really result in a “free society tolerant of all viewpoints”? During the Egyptian presidential campaign of 2012, the Muslim Brotherhood Freedom and Justice Party candidate Mohamed Morsi (who was elected) declared:

The Qur’an is our constitution, the Prophet is our leader, jihad is our path and death in the name of Allah is our goal …

Today we can establish Sharia law because our nation will acquire well-being only with Islam and Sharia. The Muslim Brothers and the Freedom and Justice Party will be the conductors of these goals.

“Jihad is our path.” As I show in great detail in my book The History of Jihad From Muhammad to ISIS, throughout 1,400 years of Islamic history, Muslims pursuing jihad as their path have been the cause of unfathomable levels of misery and suffering for non-Muslims whose sole crime was to believe in the wrong religion. Hardly a sound basis for a “free society tolerant of all viewpoints.”

Sharia law, once established, allows for the beating of disobedient women (Qur’an 4:34), the devaluation of women’s testimony (Qur’an 2:282), the devaluation of women’s inheritance rights (Qur’an 4:3), the taking of sex slaves (Qur’an 4:3, 4:24, 23:1-6, 33:50, and 70:30), the death penalty for leaving Islam (Qur’an 4:89), and much more that hardly provides for a “free society tolerant of all viewpoints.”

In 2014, Khashoggi wrote happily that Hamas leaders Khaled Meshaal and Ismail Haniyeh “have revived the Palestinian issue.” He complained about “Israel’s occupation” and about “an Israeli war against the Palestinians that has not stopped for a single day since 1948.”

Why would the Washington Post hire a pro-jihad, pro-Sharia, pro-Hamas advocate for political Islam?

The answer is clear: the Post hired Jamal Khashoggi because his views coincided with those of the paper’s editorial board….

Daniel Greenfield on his Sultan Knish blog does a really good unmasking of this Darling of the Left.

Democratic rule under the MB is as follows: One MAN, one vote, once. Once the MB faction is elected, no one else gets a voice ever again unless there is an armed uprising, a la Egypt.

The MB considers the Saud/Wahabi rulers to be heretics and westernized apostates. The house of Saud will not tolerate ANY opposition to their rule, even within the clan, and especially from outside.

What was done to this man is detestable and not defendable, but it was intended as a warning to others not to screw with the Saud rulers.

The murder of this one individual (Khashoggi) is exposing some huge Western hypocrisy and double standards. The West, especially Canada, Germany and France are now talking about suspending arms deals with Saudi Arabia over the death of this one individual while they keep shipping smart bombs to the same Saudis and the UAE savages who killed and are still tens of thousands of minority Yemeni Shiites!

The Allies of Evil are the US, Saudis, ISIS, Al-Qaeda, France, UK, UAE, others as well as thousands of military personnel known as (Muslim Nato) sent from Sunni countries that that have invaded Yemen with the support of the US and Saudis to destroy the Houthis!

He thinks he is influencing people, but he isn’t smart enough for the crowd at JihadWatch who shake their heads and loathe his primitive, snakelike viciousness.

The Shia ‘brotherhood’ in government in Iran behaves no different in practice than the Sunnite brotherhood did in Egypt. Same tyranny, same discriminatory Sharia, different countries. ……………………….

Either denial–desperate to believe that Khashoggi was really for Western values–or, worse, particularly toxic “political correctness”.

None of these this condones his appalling murder by the vicious Saudis, of course–which was indicative of a bloody power struggle between two ‘Islamist’ factions.

But his being lauded as an exemplar of free speech and democracy is also absurd.

The idea that the internecine Jihad in Yemen is not being covered in the West is, of course, absurd. Here’s just one of them:

“UN humanitarian chief says danger of ‘big famine’ in Yemen”

        https://www.foxnews.com/world/un-humanitarian-chief-says-danger-of-big-famine-in-yemen

If Iran or Russia are supporting barbaric jihadist groups that are mass-murdering Christians and other minorities in ME, if they were arming ISIS and Al-Qaeda and dozens of other jihadist groups to overthrow secular governments in the region (like they did in Libya and trying to do in Syria now) I would speak out against them and would spare no criticism against them but I don’t see them doing that at all! In fact,

On the other hand, I see Russia and Iran and Hezbollah resisting the US and Saudi, Nato pro-jihadist agenda in the ME! A very good example of this is Syria where the US, the Saudis, Qataris, UK, France, Turkey, Israel have grouped together to destroy the secular government of Assad flooding Syria with hundreds of thousands of barbaric jihadist head-choppers and without the military help of Iran and Russia the black flag of ISIS would be flying in Damascus today and millions of Christians and other minorities in that ancient country would be lying dead by now!

The CIA, MI6, CSIS, any intelligence organization of any country, including Saudi Arabia, is not going to deliver a full report to the general public of every detail of the incident. Any government is only going to volunteer just so much information, especially if something is seen as a matter of national security.

gravenimage, it’s the stuff of spies and secret agents. This is what the whole James Bond franchise centres around. The character of Bond is a secret agent who is licensed to kill for his country. I might add that at the end of those movies, never once does the secret agent do an interview for public consumption about his exploits. In “secret agent”, the operative word is “secret”.

The Muslim Brotherhood is only interested in establishing a caliphate. They have no time for kingdoms whether the kingdoms are in Saudi Arabia, Great Britain, or wherever. Neither do they have any time for democracies or republics or any other form of government except the caliphate. If they were able to depose the Saudi Royal Family, next they could be coming for us. Renate, the idea that the United States and the West are as savage as the barbaric Saudis is simply untrue.

If the West was regularly whacking journalists it would not stay a secret.

        • Renate says

          Oct 24, 2018 at 5:11 pm

I did not say that the U.S. or the West was as savage as the Saudis. Nor did I say that the West was regularly whacking journalists. I don’t think that Khashoggi was just a journalist, though. I would describe him as first and foremost Muslim Brotherhood. Muslim Brotherhood hasn’t done any favours for the Saudis, the U.S., or the West.

    • Wellington says

“…and the Saudis have done everyone a big favour.”

As gravenimage twice tried to indicate to you, this is not, nor should not, be the point.

      • Renate says

        Oct 23, 2018 at 10:58 pm

In a strictly moral sense, it shouldn’t be the point. However, governments and their operatives sometimes act in the interest of national security and may not act morally. For example, I saw an interview with a man who claimed to have shot bin Laden who was wanted dead or alive. They could have taken bin Laden in alive, but the man said that bringing him back dead was saving the tax payers the cost of a trial. One could argue that bringing bin Laden in alive would be the moral thing to do. In a perfect world, everything would be done morally. This is not a perfect world.

        • gravenimage says

          Oct 24, 2018 at 4:02 pm

Renate, the idea that not taking bin Laden alive–which would have been almost impossible, and have put the already imperiled Seal Team 6 in much greater danger–is morally equivalent to torturing a journalist (no matter how repugnant his views) to death in the nation’s consulate is just calumny.

Your position is one of taking offence when the tide turns. Islam is about domination and conquest, and incorporates beheading as acceptable punishment for shunning an “invitation” to join the pack. Believe it or not, the majority of the rest of the world still finds that quite abhorrent.

Being a Muslim, and an Islamist, Kashogghi was aware of his fate from birth if he strayed. He was born and raised in that “religion of peace”.

As non Muslims, we are expected to tolerate the tantrums of the intolerant ones. That includes what we believe are acts of terrorism, but are actually sharia compliant acts of devoutness by followers of the Quran.

Should the world mourn the loss of this man, or should we pause and remember that James Foley and many others met a similar fate through no fault of their own?

I haven’t lost any sleep over Kashogghi. I did over James Foley. Perhaps I am building up an immunity to the never ending violence of the religion of peace.

      Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Besides, they didn’t kill him because he”believe in political Islam or sharia compliant political system”–they killed him because he dared to criticize them. This was a Muslim power struggle.

Robert Spencer, you leaped to the conclusion that, “The answer is clear: the Post hired Jamal Khashoggi because his views coincided with those of the paper’s editorial board…”

I don’t think so. The Washington Post evidently wanted to believe that Jamal Kashoggi was a true democrat. That’s all. But, there is a real dilemma here. Democratic processes in Islamic cultures usually yield illiberal results, like the regimes of Mohamed Morsi and Tayip Recip Erdogan. Then, only strongmen like al-Sisi of Eqypt can impose pragmatic regimes that, however dictatorial, are more pragmatic, preventing society from being consumed in perpetual Islamic revolution, protecting useful minorities, and engaging in more normal relations with other countries. The costs are violent repression and military takeover of the major industries and assets of the country, such as the Suez Canal. A strait-jacketed society.

Unfortunately, the MSM and deep state operatives are trying desperately to get DJT to say or do something that will negatively affect him, our economy, and affect our midterm elections.

As disgusting as the torture and murder of JK was, we do not need to get involved in the internal struggles of the KSA, or the arguments between Erdogan and MBS. I am not aware of anything positive ever coming out of the US getting involved in any muslim v muslim struggle.

The best outcome possible from this episode that I could see would be for DJT to call up MBS and remind him that WE are the only power in area that would stand between Iran and the KSA if Iran had a notion to roll down to Riyadh and Mecca and reinstitute the Persian Islamic empire and tell MBS he needs to clean up the mess quickly.

Unfortunately, Saudi justice being what it is, a few heads will most likely roll, albeit very low level flunky heads. Blood money will be paid quite generously to the fiancé, wife, and other family members. Others will get a choice: a little money to get lost with for about 5 years or go to chop chop square with the other idiots. These guys will no doubt find it convenient to relocate to a southeast Asian country and find a few girl friends.

Otherwise, DJT needs to dump this distraction ASAP and deal with the border issue. Let the KSA stew in their own soup for a while and keep the US out of these internal, infernal, and eternal muslim v muslim struggles.

We have two personalities before us , Khashoggi and the Crown Prince. Both of them presented as the antithesis of the other. Yet, both of them are exactly the same. And, if this truism was uttered by Khashoggi, “There can be no political reform and democracy in any Arab country without accepting that political Islam is a part of it.” And he warned: “It is wrong to dwell on political Islam, conservatism and identity issues when the choice is between having a free society tolerant of all viewpoints and having an oppressive regime” it is also an underlying belief of the crown prince. Firstly, only Islam matters. Secondly, Islam oppresses everybody no matter its religious or political persuasion; Khashoggi is a case in point and Christian are oppressed in Muslim countries…The Washington Post , Khashoggi and the Crown Prince sing from the same song sheet. The pertinent question we should ask is: Is the Washington Post de jure Muslim in its beliefs , funding and persuasion?

Ibrahim itace muhammed has made the ludicrous claim before that it is the West that is preventing the stagnant lands of Islam from development. Of course, nothing further could be the truth, given the amount of foreign aid the US and other Western nations have poured into the Muslim world.

It comes to something when you murder and butcher a man, cut him up into pieces and maybe make a pie out of him, right in plain sight and happily go about your day.
Islam is so brutal and demonic that this pagan pantomime is actually amusing.
The West cannot understand that Muhammadans are simply crude, primitive pagan filth with exceptional manners and an inexhaustable capacity for deceit.
Their entire political machinations are desirous of bloodshed, it’s just the way it is. Let’s see more please, I’m seriously entertained.

There are a lot of reasons why the Washington Post would hire Khashoggi to write columns. One reason would be his unique insight into the Saudi system, a system he criticized which cost him his life. Another reason is that he was a voice for the freedom of expression, having had to flee the kingdom in order to be able to express himself. A bigger question is why would Robert Spencer, a man I greatly admire work to smear Khashoggi’s reputation. What’s the point of attacking man who can’t defend himself? Is this all to defend Trump’s position of you can’t criticize good customers.

    • gravenimage says

      Oct 24, 2018 at 4:57 pm

How is rightly noting that Jamal Khashoggi had links to the Muslim Brotherhood a smear? Khashoggi was not shy about this.

And it is a mistake to think that everyone who stands against tyranny is ergo for freedom. Some of them–as here–are just for another brand of tyranny.

And are you saying that it is not permissible to criticize any dead person? Do we then have to praise the “Prophet” Muhammed and Osama bin Laden?

  16. TWG says

    Let’s not get things twisted.
    1) Khashoggi was NOT a “journalist”. He was an opinion writer (islamic propagandist).
    2) Khashoggi was NOT a U.S. Citizen. HE WAS A SAUDI.

Khashoggi was a jihadi propagandist, stupid (brazen) enough to poke sticks at the Saudi kingdom and royal family and then travel to that country as if to give them the smug-face. WTF did he think would happen?

No, I will have no sorrow for yet another moslem jihadist (an islamic PROPAGANDIST, no less), murdered by his fellow moslems. I wouldn’t give the teeniest, tiniest, turdiest turd any more what flavor of islam they adhere to. moslems murdering moslems matters not to me any more. If only they could just kill each other off in their own sandbox, instead of spreading their murder and mayhem to civilized societies.

All this fake outrage from the islammunist party (aka “democrats”) is outrageous. It’s a political scheme. Where was their concern about the Americans murdered in Benghazi? What about all the other AMERICAN JOURNALISTS (REAL Journalists) slaughtered in the land of islam and imprisoned in Turkey? They don’t give one rats behind about the issue of murderous islamics, unless they can somehow twist it around and use it against their enemies, the American Citizens who care about the future for their children and their country.

Khashoggi – NOT a Journalist. NOT an American. A Saudi islamic jihadist, spreading propaganda to further infect the minds of our citizens reading the wapo. May he rot in the fiery pits of hell for eternity.
