“The Muslim community will not be scapegoated and we will endeavour to keep Australia safe where we can, but the actions of a mentally ill person suffering from a psychotic episode, is not the fault of a whole religious community.”
Now wait a minute. He was screaming “Allahu akbar” during his attack, and not only that: “The 31-year-old and his family were known to counter-terror agencies at a state and national level and were believed to have ties with north African extremist groups. His passport was cancelled several years ago after he was noted as one of 300 potential security risks.”
That’s not a “mentally ill person suffering from a psychotic episode.” That’s a committed, hardened jihadi.
Moreover, the Prime Minister called out “radical, violent, extremist Islam that opposes our very way of life.” That is not scapegoating or blaming a “whole religious community.” All this whining and complaining about scapegoating is just a dodge. The problem here is that there are Islamic texts and teachings that call for and incite violence against unbelievers. Morrison is right to note that by referring to “radical, violent, extremist Islam.” Instead of facing that and working to find ways to fight against the literal understanding of these passages so that their capacity to incite violence is blunted, the Muslim groups are excoriating Morrison for daring to note the ideological derivation of attacks such as Hassan Khalif Shire Ali’s. And so those texts and teachings will go unexamined, no efforts will be made to confront them and find ways to neutralize them, and Australia will suffer many more jihad attacks.
Keysar Trad does claim that “we all go out of our way to try and make sure our children have a better understanding of Islam and that they keep away from extremists,” but since the incitement to violence is within the Qur’an and Sunnah, this is hardly reassuring unless he admits the existence of those texts and explains how he is dealing with them. But he has never even admitted they exist.
“Imams, Muslim groups outraged by PM’s ‘divisive’ Bourke St comments,” SBS News, November 11, 2018:
Australian Imams and Muslim groups say Scott Morrison’s speech following Friday’s Bourke St mall knife attack went too far.
The Australian National Imams Council is among a number of Muslim organisations accusing Prime Minister Scott Morrison of politicising Friday’s Bourke Street attack that left one man dead and two others injured.
The Council called the attack a national tragedy but said it was “outraged” by the Prime Minister’s recent comments linking Islam to a radical and dangerous ideology.
“It is extremely disappointing in such difficult times and during a national tragedy, when all Australians of all faiths and backgrounds should be called upon to unite and stand together against any form of extremism and violence, to see our nation’s leader politicising this incident and using it for political gain,” a statement released on Sunday said.
The IS-inspired attack where Somalian-born Hassan Khalif Shire Ali attacked bystanders with a knife along the busy Melbourne street claimed the life of prominent restaurateur and co-owner of Pelligrini’s Sisto Malaspina.
Shire Ali arrived in Australia with his family in the 1980s, and authorities confirmed he was radicalised.
Mr Morrison said while he supported religious freedom, religious extremism must be called out.
“Radical, violent, extremist Islam that opposes our very way of life,” he said in a speech on Saturday.
“Religious extremism takes many forms around the world and no religion is immune from it.
“But here in Australia, we would be kidding ourselves if we did not call out the fact that the greatest threat of religious extremism in this country is the radical and dangerous ideology of extremists.”
While agreeing that Mr Morrison was “rightly upset by this terrible attack,” the Forum On Australia’s Islamic Relations (FAIR) joined the Council in saying the PM’s assertions, while condemning the attack, were incorrect.
“The Muslim community will not be scapegoated and we will endeavour to keep Australia safe where we can, but the actions of a mentally ill person suffering from a psychotic episode, is not the fault of a whole religious community,” a FAIR spokesperson said.
“We demand the withdrawal of his comments and an apology to the Muslim community.”
A similar view was held by Muslim Friendship Association spokesperson Keysar Trad, who called Mr Morrison’s comments “very divisive”.
“This really plays into the hands of the Islamophobic crowd in the community and I’ve since received emails from these people basically applauding Morrison’s comments because they just wait for any political leader to say something negative about Islam and just jump on it,” Mr Trad told SBS News.
“They don’t consider or appreciate the pain and the various repercussions that are caused to members of the Muslim community. Even though he’s trying to isolate his message to those with an extremist interpretation of the religion, many in the general public view that as an indictment of the entire Muslim community.”
“He may well be trying to make sure that some of the right-wing elements in the federal parliament don’t get a head start on him.”…
Labor MP and counter-terrorism expert Anne Aly warned politicians against using language “that is going to divide the community”.

Moslems are the world’s best liars and deceivers -make no mistake about that. Wake up sleepy and ignorant Aussies and recognise the threat to your country. Islam is nothing more than an invading army which plans to rule and enslave, not only your beloved country but the whole of the world. It should be banned as soon as possible, as would the Nazi party – which it fought for in the second world war. Read the disturbing, but honest truth, before it is too late for you and tour loved ones, at places like jihadwatch.org and pamelageller.com before it becomes too late to stop. All of it dismally predictable.
ALL of us Aussie jihadwatchers posting or lurking here *have* to write to our MPs and also to the PM, and the Immigration, Defence, and Foreign Ministers, post haste.
Tell them that we want Muslim immigration stopped. Now. And every non-citizen Muslim expelled. And every mosque surprise-raided and searched. And our relationships with *every* majority-Muslim country – **and that includes, especially, rapidly-going-sharia Indonesia**, as well as the sinister rolling-in-petrodollars Emirates and Saudi Arabia – ramped right back, calmly, quietly, but inexorably; for to be entangled too closely with *any* Islamic entity, if one is a non-Muslim, is to risk utter destruction, sooner or later.
This wasn’t a ‘psychotic episode’. It was an **act of war** by a Muslim fifth-columnist whose parents inveigled their way into this country with a sob story but fully intend to turn this place into the same ghastly sh*t-hole as their crazed-by-Isla homeland, Somalia.
No. more. Muslims.
Got Muslims? Got mosques? Got Jihad.
My complaint about Mr Morrison is that he wasn’t plain-spoken enough! He was still weaselwording.
*I* will be sending him a copy of Conor Cruise O’ Brien’s incisive essay, written in 1995 – “The Lesson of [post-independence] Algeria: Islam is Indivisible”.
Morrison, burbling on about “Radical, violent, extremist Islam” needs to realize that there’s nothing ‘radical’ about murderers like this Somali ghazi raider.. who was high as a kite on Islam, Islam, Islam. They are merely obeying the diktats of.. ISLAM. No qualifiers. Just.. Islam.
As Conor Cruise O’Brien inimitably puts it, in his opening paragraphs – ”
“Fundamentalist Islam” is a misnomer which dulls our perceptions in a dangerous way. It does so by implying that there is some other kind of Islam, which is well disposed to those who reject the Koran. There isn’t.”
Qualifiers like ‘radical’ and ‘extremist’ dull or fog our perceptions in exactly the same way.
dumbledoresarmy says
More, from Conor Cruise O’Brien.
“What is going on today in the Muslim world is not the advent of some aberrant thing called Islamic fundamentalism but a revival of Islam itself – the real thing – which Western ascendancy and Westernised post-Muslim elites no longer have the capacity to muffle and control. The jihad is back.”
To repeat – “What is going on today in the Muslim world” (and that includes, in the colonies that Muslims have established *within* non-Islamic countries such as Australia, UK, France, etc – dda) is not the advent of some aberrant thing called “Islamic fundamentalism” (or, for that matter ‘radicalism’ or ‘extremism’ – dda) but a revival of Islam itself – the real thing…. The Jihad is back”.

I suspect he does. I think he has a fairly good, albeit circumstantial understanding of Islam. The fact that he refers to Radical Extremism would suggest to me that he has not read the foundational Islamic texts himself. If he had he would not have differentiated between Radical Extremism and Islam. Like most of us he is on a journey of understanding. The next step for him is to go to the foundational texts. I think he will do it. We now have a number of senior politicians at the Federal level that do understand the threat, and their numbers are growing daily. People are starting to wake up. More importantly, people in positions of power and authority are starting to wake up.

She says the community speaks out against terror – but I imagine this is in a very abstract way that carries no clout with muslims who recognize it as a secret code for “carry on”.
Aly claims the Aussies need to focus on the #1 violence problem – the dreaded DOMESTIC violence situations (ones we’ve accidentally brought upon ourselves BTW) Next she will probably be suggesting that arranged marriages could solve all that distasteful stuff (or that we could wear burkas to hide the bruises?).

Moshe says
The problem here is not what Mr. Morrison said, but what he left out. The Australian PM did not honor the statesmanship of former U.S. President Obama: i.e., the wisdom to affirm — amid his pointed criticism and salient challenge to Muslim clergy and community leaders — what is positive and uplifting in the rich legacy of Islamic civilization.
“Islam has a proud tradition of tolerance,” observed Pres. Obama in Cairo. “We see it in the history of Andalusia and Cordoba during the Inquisition. I saw it firsthand as a child in Indonesia, where devout Christians worshiped freely in an overwhelmingly Muslim country. That is the spirit we need today. People in every country should be free to choose and live their faith based upon the persuasion of the mind, heart, and soul. This tolerance is essential for religion to thrive, but it is being challenged in many different ways.”
If Mr. Morrison had coupled his criticism with such praise, then the PM’s blunt message would not have provoked such an intense backlash. Indeed, Pres. Obama’s eloquent words provide Mr. Morrison and leaders everywhere with a powerful example of how to balance criticism with praise. This would enhance inter-faith communication and reduce the risk of spreading Islamophobia, already at epidemic proportions.
Let us remember President Obama’s call “for Western countries to avoid impeding Muslim citizens from practicing religion as they see fit – for instance, by dictating what clothes a Muslim woman should wear. We cannot disguise hostility towards any religion behind the pretence of liberalism… faith should bring us together.”
rubiconcrest says
Violent extremism should be condemned, period. The problem is that Islam will not take responsibility for the violence in their religious texts and the violence of Mohammad. The PM did say ‘violent extremist Islam’. He made the distinction but the fact that you did not notice says everything.
PRCS says
Not to be mean, but:
As there is no point at which an individual Muslm’s compliance with Islam’s texts becomes “extremism” rather than simple compliance, the term “violent extremism” is—-pointless.
The issue, in a nutshell, is the degree to which they comply with those texts.
I once sent a tweet to a–now, former–FOX News reporter after one of the numerous murders carried out by Muslims (in the name of Islam) that “murder is compliance. His response was, “Clearly, you are part of the problem”
A typical response from so many.
Note, from two of the Australian Muslim organizations cited in the article, this standard sleight of hand (referring to Allah’s slaves rather than the religion’s texts), to which terms such as “radical extremism” fit right in–to their benefit.
“is not the fault of a whole religious community”
“many in the general public view that as an indictment of the entire Muslim community”
rubiconcrest says
Of course I agree with you. The PM said ‘violent extremist Islam’ which then begs the question, what is the normative Islam and how to separate the two? Good luck with that!
PRCS says

I wish your ponderous respect for Islam would be reciprocated by the Muslim world. I can assure you it is not. Islam’s ‘proud tradition of tolerance’ seems to have fallen by the wayside (if it was ever true).
As for not dictating how a Muslim woman should dress…that would be just fine if the Muslim community would do the same…towards non-Muslim women who are harassed and attacked daily in Europe for dressing normally; and towards Muslim women who would like to practice their faith without the dress code dictated by Muslim men. I know many have stated it is their choice, but millions more are coerced by their family, by peer pressure, and by fear. How about protecting the rights (and lives) of Muslim women who do NOT wish to cover up?

Aly is a former Egyptian and Muslima who has attemped to criminalize any criticism that invokes the word “Muslim” in Australia. This is much like a member of the Mafia calling for the law to criminalize criticism of the Mafia while claiming neutrality.
Aly and her slow-motion jihadist ilk may declare non-bias and that Islam is peaceful yet, daily, a rash of violent jihad occurs from the “mentally disturbed” who are so disturbed that they intently read the Quran and pray at Mosques until they explode in violence or make detailed plans for others to execute.
And what would Aly say about millions of Pakistanis baying for the blood of Asia Bibi? Isn’t that a suspicious number of “mentally deranged” Muslims in one place? Well, speak up, Aly, and tell the world that there is “nothing to see here”.
Islam, with its hair-trigger belligerence, speaks so loudly by its actions that the West is waking from its slumber; no longer made sleepy by the monotone refrain of “experts” declaring the peacefulness of Islam.

He should not apologize for speaking the truth. No one should apologize for telling the truth about this evil that comes directly from satan the devil.
And, it is so ridiculous for moslims to speak about someone causing divisions in the community. They are the ones who divide. They don’t make friends in the community unless the “community” is all moslim. They are divisive by nature and by decree. They fit the “divide and conquer” to a T. They put islam above their family to the degree that they kill their wives and daughters for not being dressed as they dictate, they kill their sons if found to have left the cult…any grounds, even coffee grounds are enough to cause them to kill.
If they don’t hesitate to kill their family members, they will not hesitate to kill those who oppose them, or even those just living a non moslim life.
They thrive on killing, and lust for it. They thrive on demanding…and getting…apologies from those who expose their evil, murderous cult and its commands. The important thing to remember…they never, ever, accept the apologies. They laugh with glee when they demand and get what they know they do not deserve.
He should not apologize. He should keep making the statements: and others who hear should make them too. Only by speaking the truth can the truth be heard and acted upon by others.
Anjuli Pandavar says
Scott Morrison’s only mistake is that he didn’t go far enough. The Muslims sensed this timidity and pounced. The Australian National Imams Council’s response is obscene. Cynical and obscene. How dare they! The murderer, their fellow Muslim, one of their congregation, killed someone who had absolutely nothing to do with him in broad daylight on an Australian street, while screaming “Allahu Akbar!” To suggest that the Prime Minister has been waiting just for such an incident so he can “scapegoat” Muslims is even worse than obscene because it is contemptuous. These Muslims are saying to the Prime Minister, to the victims’ loved ones and to all Australia, “we don’t give a f*** what you think about what we say.” To point out the error in what they say is to walk into their trap. They don’t give a sh*t how wrong their claims are. The point here is to press their advantage.
The Prime Minister, right from the word go, laid himself open to this abuse. Who else on this earth screams “Allahu Akbar!” before murdering random strangers? Is there anyone other than Muslims who do this? By starting with the words, “I’ve got to call out,” he is already apologising for what he’s about to do, and then to go on to the formulation “radical violent extremist Islam,” implying that some other kind of Islam exists, he has shown exactly the weakness that Muslims pounce on, and pounce they did. Utterly shamelessly.
The Prime Minister is in the very fortunate position that many more non-Muslims today know exactly what Islam is, not least because of books such as Robert Spencer’s The History of Jihad from Muhammad to ISIS, and have a far better understanding of how “innocent” Muslims operate from Raymond Ibrahim’s Sword and Scimitar. The Prime Minister is unlikely to suffer any significant dhimmi backlash. Also, it seems the opposition party is not going to capitalise on his difficulties, but are standing by him (an all-too-rare occurrence in partisan democracies). Had the Prime Minister gone in hard, unapologetically and unequivocally condemned the violence of Islam *as well as* the consistent failure of the “Muslim community” to condemn and stop the violence perpetrated by people they all see in their mosque every single Friday, the Muslims would have read the signals differently and not come out with these obscene statements.
But there is more. The idea that “we must not be afraid to live our lives,” or “we must show them that we will carry on as normal,” is simply not good enough. Where are the mass demonstrations demanding the expulsion of Muslims, or at the very least, the closing down of this murderer’s mosque. Every time a jihadi commits an act of terror, CLOSE HIS MOSQUE DOWN, otherwise you’re standing still while you’re being attacked! Without a reaction against them, Muslims can rest assured that nothing is going to happen to them even after the next twenty people whom they see in their mosques every Friday do their share of murdering non-Muslims. The imams’ letter is an outrage! And they can do this only because of the weakness they perceive.
What a state we have come to when the police can, without any sense of irony at all, say, “Police didn’t have any intelligence in relation to this person that he was about to commit an act.” Seriously? 1. “An act”? like shoplifting? Muslims see this downplaying and everything is just fine: go on the offensive! The police started by not naming the criminal, now they’ve progressed to not even naming the crime. 2. Do the police now expect criminals to register their crimes before committing them? 3. They were sufficiently concerned about him to take his passport away and yet didn’t expect him to “commit and act”? 4. So they *did* have intelligence in relation to this person and failed to take *appropriate* action. That is the long and the short of it. They have failed in their duty to protect the public. Now yet another innocent citizen, not a religiously-motivated murderer, is dead. That statement makes a mockery of the police’s role as the coercive arm of the state and keeper of the peace.
*All* people who attended this murderer’s mosque, *all* of his family, friends and associates, and *all* the imams who dared to write that offensive letter must be investigated as potential accessories to this murder. *All* of them. Until then, the cynical “Muslim community” will press their advantage every time one of their mentally ill persons suffers from a psychotic episode.
Note also that it has now become a symptom of “a mentally ill person suffering from a psychotic episode,” that the patient attacks complete strangers and tries to murder them while screaming “Allahu Akbar!” As this last symptom is not presented during any other kind of psychotic episode, I propose the scientific term “jihaditis”.

Those moderates are now acting as supremacists by using the extremists actions of terror as advised by Mohammad in the koran, hadith, and sunnah.

“Scott Morrison’s only mistake is that he didn’t go far enough. The Muslims sensed this timidity and pounced.”

The complaints by the Imam Council are enemy propaganda. The Australian journalists and politicians are too stupid and cowardly to point this out.

Where are the imams saying the asshole was wrong?
They are either in agreement or fear for their lives if they do.
There is no other option.
Oops, don’t tell me – they haven’t heard about the “successful attack”.

Australia: Muslims outraged, demand apology over PM’s calling out “radical, violent Islam” after jihad attack
………………..
Muslims are becoming more and more brazen in their demands. Now you can’t even say anything critical about Jihad terror attacks without Muslims complaining and demanding an apology.
Norger says
A FAIR spokesperson said: “we will endeavour to keep Australia safe where we can…” Now there’s a thinly veiled threat. Translation: we’ll try to keep the jihadis at bay, but if you criticize Islam too much the jihad terrorism that follows such provocation will be your own fault.

When it comes to Muslims, it truly is them or us. They seem to view the world in a completely different way to us. They ( I guess it is because of what Robert Spencer calls their “supremacist” view of non-Muslims) want to be completely free to attack and kill us over and over but how dare we fight back in any way whatsoever. Hence, for Prime Minister Morrison to even mention Muslim or Islamic terrorism as being a problem is not allowed. His statement was mild. I prefer people like Hungary’s leader, Orban, who really tells the truth. Muslims, and all their constantly offended spokespeople, come across as completely paranoid. Of course, it’s not really that. They inhabit a totally different universe to the civilised, non-Muslim people. We are supposed to just cop being terrorised, killed, raped by Muslim scum. How dare we fight back against our Muslim masters. It’s sickening. We shouldn’t put up with any of their garbage. And anyone in Australia or any other western country who still hasn’t woken up is a complete bloody idiot.

But it is due to Islam because Islamic terrorists perform their evil deeds in the name of Islam.
Other killers don’t do that.

What a coinkydink! Surely Aly and Trad will be taken aback and shocked by this unfortunate news leak! (but they probably already knew). Shame is below supremacists since their Allah knows best to be sure.

Scott Morrison’s predecessor kept spouting the “islam is a religion of peace” garbage and thus was a traitor to his country. Morrison at least had the guts to call out islam but did not need all the adjectives in front of it to muddy the waters. As Erdogan said, “islam is islam, there is no moderate islam and there is no radical islam. There is just islam. That killer was a normal religious muslim and was obeying the over 100 verses in his jihadist handbook, the koran, to kill kufr’s, or non muslims. He owes it to his country to read the damn koran and see for himself what it is that motivates these eternally whingeing, put upon, supposedly misunderstood people. Their very ideology proves that they are totally incompatible with any other people or religion on Earth. There has been 1400 years of constant death and destruction from this cult. He should read Robert Spencer’s “Jihad from Mohammad to Isis” and wake the hell up. There has been over 42,200 muslim attacks around the world since 9/11 and yet they all whine and huff and puff at his finally naming islam. There are virtually no statistics on all the other religions put together. In every nation where muslims are in the minority they constantly demands their rights. In every nation where they are in the majority, there are no rights. A quick glance around the countries of the world quickly proves that comment!
tim gallagher says
Great summary, Brian, of the situation with Islam. Your comment is spot on about how Islam and its adherents continually prove that “they are totally incompatible with any other people or religion on Earth”. And it’s all written down so clearly in the Koran. Our political leaders disgust me with the way they have kept letting Muslims into our countries. Although, then again, too many of the average people in our societies have remained ignorant about the vile nature of Islam and just accept the BS they are fed. As you say, Morrison, and all other political leaders, “owe it to their countries” to educate themselves about the real nature of Islam and stop destroying their societies by continuing to let the Muslim enemy into their countries. When are they going to wake up? And you’re right, once Muslims have power, forget about human rights if you’re a non-Muslim.
Rafael says
Denying the truth, denying cold facts, denying Mohameds curriculum of rape, hate and crime will not hide that Islam is a poisonous ideology that triggers the worst of human instincts. See this follower of the religion of peace arguing with kufar women: https://youtu.be/SLLQO0EXy38

Robert Spencer said it well (but I shall take the liberty of adding the name of ‘Labor MP and counter-terrorism expert’ Anne Aly):
“Keysar Trad does claim that “we all go out of our way to try and make sure our children have a better understanding of Islam and that they keep away from extremists,” but since the incitement to violence is within the Qur’an and Sunnah, this is hardly reassuring unless he (and people like Anne Aly) admits the existence of those texts and explains how he is dealing with them. But he has never even *admitted* they exist.”
Not so’s you’d notice.
