A government bill prohibiting the veil is being pitched as an effort to fight terrorism.
Egypt is discussing a new draft law that would prevent women from wearing a burqa (nikab) in public spaces as part of a government campaign against extremist interpretations of Islam…..Ahmad Sharbini, an Egyptian political analyst, told The Media Line that …. the burqa creates a security problem as “many male and female terrorists use it to hide their identities or sneak into places.
Meanwhile, unindicted co-conspirators in a Hamas jihad terror funding case, including the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and other Islamic lobbies, continue to push the wearing of the burqa and niqab as a religious right in Western societies. When opposed, they scream “discrimination” and “Islamophobia.” Yet many nations have adopted a burqa ban, including China, Tajikistan, Morocco, Latvia, Cameroon, Congo-Brazzaville, Gabon, Chad, Austria, Denmark, Belgium, Netherlands, Bulgaria, and France.
Veiling requirements are in the Quran: Sura 24:31 and Sura 33:59, despite the routine insistence that the veil is not a religious requirement.
“Egypt considers banning the burqa as part of anti-extremism campaign”, by Dima Abumaria, The Media Line, November 6, 2018:
A government bill prohibiting the veil is being pitched as an effort to fight terrorism.
Egypt is discussing a new draft law that would prevent women from wearing a burqa (nikab) in public spaces as part of a government campaign against extremist interpretations of Islam. The burqa, used mainly in Islamic cultures, is the veil that covers a woman’s entire face except for the eyes.
On Saturday, Ghada Ajami, a lawmaker, submitted a bill in the Egyptian parliament calling for a fine of 1,000 Egyptian pounds ($56) for women who defy the proposed ban. The fine would double for repeat offenders.
Ajami stressed to the press that the purpose of the bill is “to support the state’s efforts in fighting terrorism.”
A copy of the draft bill obtained by The Media Line states that the burqa would be prohibited in Egyptian public spaces “at any time and under any circumstances.”
Public spaces would include hospitals, health clinics, schools, cinemas, theaters, public libraries, museums, and government buildings, among others.
Ahmad Sharbini, an Egyptian political analyst, told The Media Line that “Egypt is going through a period of instability because of radical Islamic groups operating within the country,” adding that the burqa creates a security problem as “many male and female terrorists use it to hide their identities or sneak into places.
“If passed, this legislation would not infringe [on] freedoms or go against religions,” Sharbini continued, stressing that “public safety and national security are more important than anything. That is what the Egyptian street is demanding from the government every day.”…..

Can only hope they do this. It should make it easier to push for a ban in the UK where more Muslim countries can be cited as banning it.

wondering whether any country could stress that?

Apparently, Bin Laden was transported around wearing a burqa.
His 6’4″ height looked strange in a burqa, and yet that is what he did.
Terrorists use this technique in a number of Arab countries … bank robbers too.
A number of Muslim countries have banned it, so western countries don’t need to worry about it. Many DISCRIMINATORY PRACTICES of Islam are already banned in most Western countries. What’s one more?

Good points.

It is the ugliest political statement there is out there. A ninja walking around in public , or as Boris would say, a letter box. It is something I never thought we would see in the west, but we see it everywhere now. If it were up to Trump they would all be sent back to where they belong. They are not compatible with western civilization.

Oh the racism !! How can they do that to a muslim woman. The inhumanity and misogeny, the absolute anti feministic hate.
Oops sorry my liberal room mate got hold of my phone he he.
Great job Egypt. Keep up the good fight against an Islamic takeover.

When last I was in Egypt, just before Muhammad Morsi oozed to power, I was visiting friend in both Cairo and Alexandria, and I didn’t see a single hijab, niquab, or burka anywhere. And bus attendants (they sort of have stewardesses on the inter-city buses) dressed like cheerleaders, in mini-skirts. I kid you not.

Unfortunately, though, Egyptian Muslims are still persecuting and murdering Christians and Secularists.

I have a better idea, ban Islam altogether. This will, definitely, save the world of the horrible crimes committed in it’s name.
Islam is not a religion, would be the first step.

In 1923 in Cairo, women staged demonstrations about being forced to wear the niqab. So, after nearly 95years, the government are going to make a move? I doubt it….. it’ll be forgotten in a few weeks.
Stephen Malone says
I hope like hell its not forgotten and it becomes the indisputable law of the land and maybe women won’t have to worry about having camel faces
