The U.S. has opposed “an annual draft resolution at the United Nations calling on Israel to rescind its authority over the occupied Golan Heights, drawing praise from Israeli officials.”
The jihadist goal has been since 1948 and remains to obliterate Israel. For Israel to surrender the strategically important Golan Heights would aid the jihadists in attaining their goal. The UN remains virulently anti-Israel while it aims to improve its relationship and collaborations with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Kudos to America’s UN representatives and President Trump for this decision.
“U.S. Opposes Anti-Israel Golan Heights U.N. Draft Resolution,” Breitbart, November 18, 2018:
The Algemeiner reports: The United States opposed on Friday for the first time an annual draft resolution at the United Nations calling on Israel to rescind its authority over the occupied Golan Heights, drawing praise from Israeli officials.
The Golan Heights form a buffer between Israel and Syria of about 1,200 square km (460 square miles). Israel captured most of it from Syria in the 1967 Middle East war. It annexed the territory in 1981, a move not recognized internationally…..

DogOnPorch says
Had Israel started the Six Day War or the Yom Kippur War, I’d say perhaps they should negotiate to give it back to Syria…when the civil war ends…perhaps.
BUT…and it’s a big one…it was the ARABS who started these wars. The Israelis just had the “misfortune” of winning both resoundingly. The Golan was a fitting prize for being a good sport and not taking Cairo and Damascus.
Infidel Numero Uno says
Spot on! My entire unit cheered so loudly when Israel kicked the ragheads’ asses I’m sure it was heard in Jerusalem.

Good for the USA.
The UN and their united in hate program against Israel is appalling. This certainly exposes them to be exactly what they are. They really know how to keep the embers alive for constant strife.
Is the USA the only country with any commonsense? Apparently yes! The silence from other countries who may agree with the USA is disgusting.

Sometimes we are the only ones to vote against these insane resolutions against Israel.
Older Canadian says
Yes I know, and I thanks to your President some other countries are starting to see what the UN really is. This will hopefully start to unfold next month with the pressure to sign the UN Immigration Pact.

Even before Trump the US often–though not always under Obama–stood with Israel.

More fuel to justify booting the UN out of the US, turning the building into a YMCA, and discontinueing ALL monetary support to this corrupt and evil group of miscreants.
Roland says
The Golan Heights, at least the Israeli part of it, is essential to the defense of Israel. It is a commanding position overlooking northern Israel with its extensive towns and farms. Still vital in this age of GPS-guided weapons. Feet and tanks on the ground are still needed to defend and secure positions.

The UN has become an utter disgrace and a complete DHIMMI to the Islamic nations..
Edmund Carey says
I believe the suggestion here is that, while the West Bank and Gaza were occupied regions when Israel was forced to assume control over them in 1967, the Golan Heights was within the borders of a sovereign nation. The Golan is therefore supposed to be a different case to the other two.
I’m not an expert in international law, but, from what I hear of it, Syria would have to have rescinded its state of war with Israel for the latter to be required to return the Golan Heights. Syria has never ended its state of war with Israel. It still regards itself as at war. Israel, therefore, is not under a legal obligation to return the Golan.
And of course Syria wants something for nothing, and of course the whole of the Arab world, and of course the whole of the wider Muslim world, want that too.
carpediadem says
Israel was not “forced to assume control over the “West Bank and Gaza”.
These territories were Israeli but in 1948 were respectively invaded and illegally taken over by Jordan (Judea and Samaria, otherwise incorrectly called the West Bank) and Egypt, which took Gaza.
During the 6 day war, Israel RETOOK, RECLAIMED, RECONQUERED these places and reunified Jerusalem by taking BACK their stolen territories – including East Jerusalem, which had been ethnically cleansed of Jews and whose synagogues had been burned down – from the Islamic Arab Invaders.
The war over the territories is constantly misrepresented.
carpediadem says
Of course, the world whines over the fact that Israelis took back their own land so they have been “disputed” and referred to as ‘occupied” – implying illegality by the Jews – ever since.
Edmund Carey says
I’m not sure I see this. The West Bank and Gaza were not Israeli in the sense that they were included in the UN Partition Plan of 1947 as part of Israel’s allotment. They were both part of the Palestinian allotment, were they not?
Both regions would have formed part of what the international community of the day were attempting to secure for the Palestinians, and only a part. The Palestinian share was larger than just these two regions. Their country would have been pretty substantial, if they had had the sense to accept it, instead of defying the UN and throwing in their lot with bloodletting instead.
Egypt and Jordan occupied these regions in the Israeli War of Independence, and then stupidly decided twenty years later that they could still eradicate their neighbor – and lost their ill gotten gains in the process. Which of course they see as something to whine about.
But the Golan Heights was never part of the UN Partition Plan, I don’t think. It was Syrian. Israel had little choice but to take control of it in ’67 – it is perfect strategic ground and had been used for years to wantonly attack farms and villages – because they were fighting for their survival.
The whining continues, and the UN is quite onside with it (let’s put it plainly – the Organization for Islamic Cooperation is onside with it) but as I understand it Israel does not have a legal obligation to hand over the Golan unconditionally, whatever may be the case with the West Bank and Gaza.

If Israel had been in possession of the land and used it as a place from which to fire on Syrian farmers and sheep herders, and then began a war against Syria to kill even more citizens…and lost, the U.N. would not be saying…over and over…that Syria needed to give the land back to Israel.
Since Israel’s farmers were being terrorized by the Syrians, and then the the war was started by the moslims against Israel in order to kill even more Jews, and then lost…neither should Israel be expected to give up what they took from Syria.
What is good for one is also good for another. Syria was the aggressor and lost. They didn’t “count the cost” before beginning what Israel finished.
Previously, the U.S. abstained each year. Many, many things have changed recently, have they not?
Walter Sieruk says
It would be foolishness ,folly, incompetence to the point of madness of the officials of the government of the State of Israel to “give up” and Let go” of the Golan heights became the lad in needed as a buffer zone ,area , between Israel and that jihad murder entity Hezbollah. The keeping of the Golan heights is important for the protection and safety of the citizens of the State of Israel .The duty of any good government security and safety of its citizens.
In addition to all this the truth is that God had given all this land that now composes the State of Israel, including the Golan Heights, to the Jewish people. This may be found in the Bible, as seen in, for example, Genesis 28:13-15. 35:10-12. Deuteronomy 32:48,49. Psalm 105:7-11. In other words the Jews have tall this land by Divine Right. As Psalm 135 :4. reads “For the Lord chosen Jacob for Himself, Israel for His special treasure.” [N.K.J.V.]

Praise God. we have a president that stands with Israel. Te King James Bible tells us those that stand with Israel will be blessed. Those that come against her will not.. Our biggest blessings in America come because we have stood by Israel. That land belongs to God and the Jews are His chosen people.. Our blessing as Gentiles come through our believing in Jesus as the Son of God.. We mmmmmust always stand by Israel in our prayers and as a nation…..

Goldman’s was a bargain store, quite well known where I grew up. If you had little money, you could get some nice looking inexpensive clothes. They were not durable, but sometimes that was all you needed to go to a job interview looking like a serious candidate and land a job.
He was at his store every day until shortly before he passed away in his 90’s. I did not know that Mr. Goldman owned this real estate in the middle east as well.

It should also be noted that UN “peace keepers” supposedly kept the peace and some distance between Syria and Israel at the Golan and in Gaza kept Egypt and Israel apart.
History shows how well that worked.
I have my opinions on what should have been done in Gaza and West Bank, but I do not think Israel had the resources or the will to do what needed to be done. This will all come back to haunt the US and Israel in the near future.

mr. trump and the current congress should recognize this border change immediately. unfortunately, there is probably a higher concentration of nazis in the u.s. government civil service than in the population at large, since the left has recognized since the 1930s at least that although the pay in the civil service is lower than in industry, the power is *far* greater. since the left is all about power, it is only natural for them to congregate where power is exercised. and because of the concentration of leftists, any legislation to recognize israel’s borders would be slowed down until the new congress was seated, which will pass exactly ZERO bills that are pro-israel, pro-american, or even slightly rational.
Guy Forester says
Very astute observations. FDR did more harm to our Republic that anyone else due to his president for life status. Even Carter or BHO, as damaging as they were, pale in comparison to FDR. He packed every department and bureau with as many so called progressive, Stalin and Hitler loving party hacks as possible, especially State. Only Nixon gets close due to his folly of normalizing our relations with Mao and the PRC. If you no longer work in manufacturing, research, or higher education, thank Nixon.
If you wonder why we are always at war, State makes bone headed decisions and actions (think CIA), now you know why. Stalin and the USSR were the model of governance that these leftists loved. They fell out love with Hitler when he attacked old Joe. If anyone doubts this, read Amy Shlaes’ book, The Forgotten Man.
