Kilmeade says that “before we had an Army, before we had a president, we had our first enemy, and it was Islamic extremists, people that bastardized the Koran in order to use it as a weapon to absolutely blackmail the west, the Spanish, the French, the British.”
Later, he adds: “In fact, here’s the quote – tell me if this sounds familiar – ‘All nations, according to the Koran, which have not acknowledged the prophet were sinners whom it was the right and duty of the faithful to plunder and enslave. Christian sailors were, plain and simple, fair game.’ That’s the quote from the Tripoli ambassador. Man, have things changed?”
So apparently Brian Kilmeade believes that this bastardization of the Qur’an has continued for at least two centuries, or longer if he doesn’t think it originated with the Barbary pirates. How did this bastardization become so widespread and long-lasting? Why didn’t Jefferson, who so famously possessed a Qur’an, correct the Tripoli ambassador and explain to him how he was bastardizing the Qur’an? Why didn’t any of the Muslims of Tripoli or anywhere else arise to fight this bastardization of the Qur’an, stop the bastardizers, and preach peace and tolerance between Muslims and non-Muslims?
In reality, for 1,400 years, without any interruption, pause, reformation, reconsideration, all over the world, wherever they have gone, from Spain to India and the New World, there have been
Muslims who have believed that “all nations, according to the Koran, which have not acknowledged the prophet were sinners whom it was the right and duty of the faithful to plunder and enslave.”
If these Muslims were bastardizing the Qur’an, it is noteworthy that nowhere in history, at any place in the world, did any Muslim movement arise to oppose them.
Don’t believe me? Get the details, largely from Islamic sources, in The History of Jihad From Muhammad to ISIS.
“Brian Kilmeade at Restoration Weekend,” FrontPage, December 4, 2018:
…So, I did stand up for awhile, and I always thought, they’d say, “Listen, Brian, if you do 20 minutes, and you hit a high at 15, and you know you’re getting a loud laugh, do not finish. Get off.” So I’m saying, I studied Washington for 20 years and aspiring. I reaffirmed it, treated it like a new story, got new information, I can’t replicate it. Get off the stage. And then they ask me, “What are you passionate about?” I go, “Well, the war on terror has got me consumed. The whole hunt for Bin Laden is really what’s got us going.” And I said, “Well, any time people write with perspective about the war on terror, they bring up Jefferson.” Thomas Jefferson, not known as a warrior, knew there was an Islamic extremist threat, and he knew it before we had a government, before we had a president. You know why? Because before we had an Army, before we had a president, we had our first enemy, and it was Islamic extremists, people that bastardized the Koran in order to use it as a weapon to absolutely blackmail the west, the Spanish, the French, the British. Everybody in Europe would pay the price in order to, when they went through the Mediterranean by these four north African nations, to not get raided, to not get boarded, to not get their craft taken, the cargo pillaged and their people taken as hostage. We’re a new nation. All we have is war, debt and a lot of ambition, and an ability to work our way out of it; and natural resources to make it happen.
So, what are we going to do? So, it’s time for a meeting, and the meeting’s going to be between John Adams, an ambassador to England, and John Adams, ambassador to France. They wanted to talk our way out of it. They wanted to explain, “Hey, you guys got enemies. We’re brand new. We’re 2 years old. We’re not your enemy. We just want to be able to use the international waters.” They said, “They’re our waters.” So Jefferson and Adams met. They walked out with very different attitudes. Adams said, “We can’t fight them, or we’re going to have to fight them forever.” Jefferson said, “We have to fight them, because if you don’t punish the first insult, more will follow.” So what do you do? You bring your case back to this country, and because we had no Army, because we had no Navy, we had to pay the price to Tripoli, Morocco, Tunis (which is Tunisia), Algiers (which is Algeria), just so our guys can travel through the Mediterranean, and they were still taken hostage, and we still couldn’t afford to get them out, and they were still being tortured. We had our first threat.
In fact, here’s the quote – tell me if this sounds familiar – “All nations, according to the Koran, which have not acknowledged the prophet were sinners whom it was the right and duty of the faithful to plunder and enslave. Christian sailors were, plain and simple, fair game.” That’s the quote from the Tripoli ambassador. Man, have things changed?…

I listened to Kilmeade’s speech on FrontPageMag.com and caught the same error. I commented on that site that Kilmeade was wrong when he said that the Barbary Pirates followed a bastardized Koran. The pirates followed the tenets set out in the Koran.

Agree with KW. Brian Kilmeade has in the past been hard on Islam. I think he doesn’t know the Islamic PRIMARY SOURCE TEXTS well enough to be INFORMED ENOUGH to make the statements he is making.
Brian Kilmeade should read THE HISTORY OF JIHAD by Robert Spencer immediately and learn that jihad is NORMATIVE ISLAM, rather than an aberration.
MR. KILMEADE, you are an intelligent man. Here is the most OFFICIAL DEFINITION OF JIHAD from the Koran published in Saudi Arabia:
From footnotes on p.39, ‘The Noble Koran’, published by King Fahd Complex for Publication of the Quran, Madinah, KSA.
“Jihad is holy fighting in Allah’s Cause with full force of numbers and weaponry. It is given the utmost importance in Islam and is one of its pillars. By Jihad Islam is established, Allah’s Word is made superior (which means only Allah has the right to be worshiped), and Islam is propagated. By abandoning Jihad Islam is destroyed and Muslims fall into an inferior position; their honor is lost, their lands are stolen, their rule and authority vanish. Jihad is an obligatory duty in Islam on every Muslim. He who tries to escape from this duty, or does not fulfill this duty, dies as a hypocrite.” – footnotes on p.39, ‘The Noble Koran’, published by King Fahd Complex for Publication of the Quran, Madinah, KSA.
“JIHAD HAS UTMOST IMPORTANCE … ISLAM IS PROPAGATED BY JIHAD” !!!!!
beyondculturewars says
I think Kilmeade is walking that thin line between truth and economic opportunity.
If he says the truth, his book won’t sell.
But, if his book sells well in the mainstream, more folks will look into the primary source texts of islam and jihad.
Then, they may find Robert Spencer and Jay Smith
PRCS says
This is not the first time Kilmeade has told that lie.
Who is he to conclude that the ambassador didn’t know his Qur’an?
Christian says
It’s called sarcasm. Kilmeade was being sarcastic.

I very much doubt it. What would you base that assertion on?

It’s not Muslims who have bastardized the Koran. It’s the Koran that turns numerous Muslims into bastards.

I’m profoundly disappointed in Brian Kilmeade. I assumed he knew better, as he authored a book on this subject a couple of years ago. I was planning to buy the book – not any more. Hugh Fitzgerald wrote an illuminating series of articles about the attempts to rewrite history by describing a meal served to the Bey of Tunis’s representative, who had come to Washington during Jefferson’s presidency, as an Iftar dinner. The Bey had sent a representative in connection with the repeated predation by Muslims of U.S. Merchant Marine ships. These articles, which were posted some years ago, should be found in Jihad Watch’s “Articles by Hugh Fitzgerald” section. Compelling reading. No nonsense about hijacking, twisting, or bastardizing the Qur’an will be found.

Many on “the right” are equally clueless. Of that bunch are those who still think the problem is “radical Islamic terrorism”.

“have things changed?”
No. You would think that would be the first clue that the Muslims didn’t bastardize the Qur’an. Maybe Kilmeade wasn’t able to locate a Qur’an when he was doing his research?
Jaladhi says
One has to ask if he has ever read Quran so as to pass judgement that Islamic apologists always do!!

Why do people have to make a comment about Koran without reading it? It is so disappointing. When people do make comments like that you question their honesty.

Maybe Kilmeade doesn’t want to jeopardize his spot over at the right of the curvy couch on “Fox and Friends” by acknowledging that Islam directs its followers to “plunder and enslave those who have not acknowledged the prophet”, whether by enforcing the jizya or exploiting welfare states or boarding ships and stealing cargo. Haven’t read the book — does the rest of it indicate that he buys the “bastardization” excuse or does it demonstrate understanding that the aggression was indeed based on the Koran? Jefferson understood that, it’s why he stopped playing their game and struck back.
Wellington says
Just stunning how many non-Muslims know more about Islam than Muslims. Fascinating.

Perhaps some of the writers whose work is published regularly on FPM could have a serious talk with Mr. Kilmeade and disabuse his mind where he has misunderstood some things about islam and their filthy…filthy from the first letter in the first word…book.
Perhaps Mr. Spencer, Mr. Greenfield, Mr. Fawstin, and Mr. Kilmeade could all sit down for a nice talk about the realities of islam. And then he could give another, more well-informed speech.
Wellington says
I just wrote to Brian Kilmeade politely detailing to him why I think he is wrong about his take on Islam. May I suggest others do so. You just have to Google his name and contact information will come up so that you can let him know, firmly but politely, why he has gotten things terribly wrong about Islam.
I think it important that if one does contact him one is not in the least insulting. Indeed, I personally conveyed that I agree with him on most issues. A la Mary Poppins, a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down. Right now, Brian Kilmeade is in need of “medicine” and the more anodyne it is administered the more likely it will have the right effect.
eduardo odraude says
I think your principle (“a spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down”) should be applied not just to Kilmeade but to many many others.
However, I doubt Kilmeade really thinks that jihad terror is a corruption or hijacking of Islam. He’s probably just toeing the party line, as it were. Let’s face it, he’d probably lose his job if he spoke too honestly about Islam.
In any case, those who do not want to publicly admit what Islam is, fine, but at least they should not go so far as the opposite extreme and imply or assert that Islam is a religion of peace and the like. If they know that Islam is an expansionist totalitarian system backed by terror, but they don’t want to publicly state what they know, ok, then at least they should be silent. It’s one thing to withhold a true conclusion, but one should not bend over backward to the point of stating the very reverse of the truth in order to protect oneself. One can state single facts without drawing conclusions, if one is afraid of the consequences of drawing true conclusions.
Wellington says
I agree. If for job security reasons, reasons related to family safety, et al., one does not want to actively criticize the heinous (and ridiculous) religion which is Islam, OK, I will reluctantly go along with this. Yes, just keep quiet.
But when it extends to actually extolling Islam and, most especially, trashing people who speak the truth about Islam, this is where I say enough is enough and such a person needs to be called out for engaging in distortion of the truth, politely at first perhaps and then if the person in question persists in defending the religious equivalent of Nazism (master religion v. master faith), then all bets (gloves too) should be off.
Mr. Nice Guy at first. A Complete Bastard defending liberty to thereafter follow. Generally speaking, being nice has rarely advanced the cause of truth as much as being pugilistic has.

Just another celebrity whom, having spoken a little about the truth about Islam, needs a little wiggle room so he fudges things to try and hopefully avoid death threats from muslims and to keep his day job. The other possibility is that he truly is willfully ignorant. In either case, nothing new to see here.

KWJ says
Prince Talid has money in Fox News and once bragged that he could have a story killed if he wanted to. Fox use to have Muslims on from Hannity interviewing the vile Anjem Coudry, to CAIR representatives, Muslim Student Association members, etc. Seems that has stopped in the last year. There have been plenty of newsworthy stories.
Just as with Republicans, Fox is just as compromised. As someone above said, instead of asserting a lie just don’t say anything. Brian didn’t include the quote that was relayed to Jefferson. Adams was outspoken about Islam and not favorably.
Either Brian is dumb or he’s compromised. They acted just like Muhammad’s men the early ones being a ragtag bunch of bandits who joined up with Muhammad for the spoils. When the spoils weren’t coming fast enough since their raids were not yet successful, they complained to Muhammad.
Ishaq: Muhammad promised that we would enjoy the treasures of the Persians and Romans but it isn’t safe for us to go to the privy!”
So, Allah revealed verse 33:12 “And call to mind when the Hypocrites and those in whose hearts was a disease said, “Allah and His Messenger promised us only delusion!”
Pirates. After the 8th raid they started to succeed at terrorizing and pirating Arabia.
48:20 “Allah has promised you much booty that you will take [in the future] and has hastened for you this victory…”
Allah promised them spoils, the properties of infidels, so how did the Barbary Pirates distort the Qur’an? When Muslims have said X people distort the Qur’an I’ve asked many times for an example and got no replies except once regarding suicide bombers since Islam forbids suicide like Christianity does.
The Qur’an has plenty of proactive, offensive verses (as opposed to defensive) that a little logic goes a long way. Kilmeade wants to keep his job like many other enablers and greedy Anericans, especially politicians. /:

William Christian says
A Thomas Jefferson in 1785 wrote the Acts for Establishing Religious Freedom in Virginia. In it he said, “Almighty God hath created the mind free…all attempts to influence it by temporal punishments…are a departure from the plan of the holy author of our religion [i.e., Jesus], who being lord both of body and mind, yet choose not to propagate it by coercions on either, as was in his Almighty power to do, but to exalt it by its influence on reason alone…” Since Jesus gives humans freedom to accept or reject Him, it is wrong for us to compel belief. All religious force does Jefferson wrote is to “beget habits of hypocrisy”.
In 1786 Jefferson and John Adams negotiated with Tripoli’s ambassador Sidi Haji Abdrahaman to stop the capture of American ships and enslavement of US citizens. Abdrahaman told them that according his holy book, the Qur’an “all nations which have not acknowledged the Prophet were sinners, whom it was the right and duty of the faithful to plunder and enslave.” After their meeting Jefferson and Adams understood peace was not possible with the Mohammedans; the choices total victory, a never-ending conflict or willing submission to Islam.
Bill says
Kilmeade is one reason I won’t waste my time watching Fox News, (or any other news channel for that matter). Once someone separates Islam by using the deceptive and erronious term “radical Islam” I immediately dismiss them as clueless, ignorant, maybe deceptive and, in a practical sense, a de facto Islamist.
PRCS says
The essential issues here, IMO:
Kilmead’s assertion–despite knowing what the Muslim ambassador said–that Qur’an has been bastardized.
If he actually believes that, how did he come to that conclusion?
If he doesn’t believe that, why does he keep saying that?
gravenimage says
I think many people cannot handle the fact that Islam is so savage, so they need to lie to themselves (and often others). Please note I am *not* condoning this–I just have seen this willful denial often enough to recognize it.
