What would it take for you to plant explosive devices and try to commit mass murder? Would you do it for love? For money? For religious fervor?
John Nuttall and Amanda Korody wanted to do what they tried to do. Entrapment claims are a refuge of scoundrels.
“B.C. Court of Appeal: Couple convicted in Victoria terror case entrapped by RCMP,” Canadian Press, December 19, 2018:
Appeals court agrees with trial judge’s ruling that John Nuttall and Amanda Korody were manipulated by police.
B.C.’s Appeal Court has upheld a decision that found a couple accused of plotting to blow up the provincial legislature was entrapped by the RCMP.
In a ruling released Wednesday, Justice Elizabeth Bennett wrote that while the trial judge made some errors, she did not err in finding that John Nuttall and Amanda Korody were manipulated by the Mounties.
“I therefore agree with the trial judge that the overall conduct of this investigation was a travesty of justice,” Bennett wrote in her ruling.
Bennett ordered a stay of proceedings.
The Crown argued at an appeal hearing in January that B.C. Supreme Court Justice Catherine Bruce had no basis to conclude the RCMP manipulated Nuttall and Korody into planting explosive devices around the legislature. In June 2015, a jury found Nuttall and Korody guilty of conspiring to commit murder, possessing an explosive substance and placing an explosive in a public place on behalf of a terrorist group.
The convictions were put on hold until 2016 when Bruce ruled the two had been entrapped by police, who she said used trickery, deceit and veiled threats to engineer the bomb plot.
In its appeal, the Crown argued that Nuttall and Korody were responsible for crafting and carrying out the plan and that an undercover RCMP operation did not qualify as either manipulative or an abuse of process.
Documents filed by the Crown said Nuttall and Korody eagerly conspired to build improvised explosive devices and detonate them as an act of jihad to strike terror in the hearts of “Canadian infidels.”…

Nuttall. One more for the annals of aptronyms.

Yes … totally. Another Anglo-Celtic jihadist who went NUTS over the MISOGYNISTIC, PEDOPHILE PIRATE Mohammed.
The judge didn’t want to appear ‘racist’ by sentencing an ANGLO-CELTIC JIHADIST… like formerly ‘white’ Sinead O’Connor, she has CHANGED HER RACE.
Islam is an official ‘RACE’ unless you leave it … if you leave Islam you become ‘RACIST’ … Ask Somalian Ayaan Hirsi Ali who was accused of being ‘RACIST’ … they must have thought she had become ‘white’ by leaving Islam.

Mortimer, I am at a loss as to why you are obsessed by “Anglo-Celtic” converts.
“Nuttall” is indeed an English name–although not Celtic–but “Korody” is a Hungarian name, so while she may be living in Canada, she is not “Anglo-Celtic”. I have not done an organized study, but I have no reason from what I have seen to think that Infidels of “Anglo-Celtic” heritage are more apt to convert to the vicious creed of Islam than those of any other Western heritage.
After all, Islam is not a race–nor is dhimmitude.

Here is the population distribution of the last name Nuttall: United States 3,890; England 7,647; Wales 181; Australia 1,307; Scotland 249; Canada 1,164; South Africa 840; France 294; Northern Ireland 107; New Zealand 473.
Most Canadians have some Celtic ancestry as well as German ancestry. Most of the English have some Celtic DNA as well from past generations.

Catholics are indeed more prone than other Westerners to “revert” to islam.

Mortimer, I still don’t know why you are obsessed by “Anglo-Celtic” converts to Islam. They don’t seem any different to other clueless or savage Infidel converts to Islam, in either numbers or ugliness.

UNCLE VLADDI, are there any statistics to back that up?

True, Hugh–but I still wonder what his Muslim name is.

How dimwitted, ignorant and warped to get sucked into the Islamo-Death Cult?

Justice Elizabeth Bennett is a danger to the safety of Canadians. Just another lame-brained Canadian judge who regards it clever to be stupid and perverse. All on their own this couple intended causing destruction, but no, to dimwit Elizabeth Bennett they were ‘entrapped’. The were caught in the act of planning destruction – and probably death. I still marvel at the court leniency shown toward the Muslim ‘Toronto 17’ who planned death and destruction. Who needs enemies when one has these idiotic judges acting on behalf of jihadists and criminals?

Guilty is Guilty regardless of how it became known……. These people hate us and they should be sent back to the desert where they belong or hanged from the highest gallows……. God help us while these money hungry lawyer represent these people that hate us and want us dead.. Even in America and elsewhere they will kill their own in order to kill and destroy so called Jews and Infidels. Raise a little hell people.. Stand your ground. These Muslims are all alike………… It’s sad but true………..
Huh!?! says
Ok Canada. In order to avoid more possible bombings coerced by your police why not just go full sharia.
This has made undercover discovery by police difficult or impossible.
Words like ludicrous or unbelievable do not do justice to the miscarriage of justice to the Canadian people, culture and heritage.
This is going to make the jihadists more careful and knowledgeable about what to do the next time this is plotted. This increases chances for a success of horrific proportions dumped on the Canadian people. This of course would be in the name of diversity, tolerance, understanding of a disconnect between Canada and islam.
I can even give the excuse when an attack is attempted again or is successful: somehow it will be determined that the jihadists had mental problems and this is not true islam.
Canada, it has been good to know you. You will be missed.

I find it difficult to believe that police could entrap anyone who didn’t want to follow through on any scheme presented to him/her. As soon as someone mentioned “making a bomb”, you would know the conversation was going south right there. Even if you didn’t express alarm at the thought so as not to tip off the person suggesting such a thing, you would make an excuse to extricate yourself from the conversation and then conveniently NEVER BE AVAILABLE TO THAT PERSON FOR ANY FUTURE CONVERSATIONS OF ANY KIND.

Canada: Appeals Court upholds ruling that Muslims who plotted jihad massacre were entrapped by police

Well, that’s *the whole point*, isn’t it? Most of us here would not, say, buy a flat screen TV off a dodgy van parked in an alley somewhere, because we would fear it was stolen or might be a scam. But this is nonetheless an understandable act. Why? Because most of us like cheap consumer goods, and would buy them at deep discounts if we can find them. And some naive people might not realize that selling TVs off the back of a truck is a bad sign, in any case.
But slaughtering innocent Infidels? Even if we thought we could get away with it, is this something that *any* decent person would want to do? Of course not–we would be horrified by the very thought.
That’s why the former might reasonably be considered entrapment if done by the police; the latter, not.

2-5 years from now this Judge is going to discover that the bombs won’t be planted just in legislatures but in Courts and Judges homes. It’s very sad this Judge is myopic.

Part of what happened here is that the Crown was clueless about Islam and in particular the defence expert who testified that the accused were lead astray from the “real” Islam by the undercover cop who posed as a Muslim mentor of sorts. Here’s how she described the expert’s significance when she qualified him:
”3] If the RCMP misled the defendants with respect to the religious advice, it certainly makes their conduct far more egregious than if they chose to provide religious advice that was accurate. Moreover, it would make the undercover officers’ conduct more egregious if the advice they gave in the context of religious and spiritual guidance were the extremist religious views of the jihadists, such as Al-Qaeda and Bin Laden. That would make the conduct far more egregious.”
So anyway, as a criminal lawyer in Victoria myself who was amongst the intended target crowd I took a special interest in this prosecution. To say the least! And at one point I tried to get the crown to talk with me about the case. I thought either my own input could help or I could turn them onto Robert or some other counter-Jihad leading light. However they never got back to me. The next thing I knew this happened.
So who was their expert? None other than Omid Safi, the asshole who once bizarrely accused Robert of threatening to murder his family. He’d have been destroyed with proper cross-examination. However it didn’t happen. They knew nothing about him, nothing about Islam and he carried the day with his sublimely, patently misleading evidence about the “real” religion of peace.
