The outrageously draconian prospective sentence here stems from the assumption that men have no responsibility whatsoever to control themselves, and that women must dress modestly in order to remove the source of temptation from them. If men are tempted, it is the woman’s responsibility and the woman’s fault, and she must be punished.
And Leftists will denounce you as “racist” and “Islamophobic” if you observe that admitting large numbers of people who believe this way into the West will cause societal upheaval.
“Egyptian actress could face up to five years in prison after wearing a see-through dress that showed off her legs at a film festival in Cairo,” by Sophie Law, Mailonline, December 2, 2018:
An Egyptian actress could face five years in jail after appearing on the red carpet wearing a see-through dress that showed off her legs.
Rania Youssef attended the closing ceremony of a film festival in Cairo on Thursday wearing a black leotard with a transparent over-dress embellished with a sequined criss-cross pattern and a bow belt.
Youssef, who is in her 30s, has now been charged with public obscenity and is set to stand trial on January 12 following a complaint by a group of lawyers to the chief prosecutor….
ElizabethLawson says
I cannot I imagine why “a group of lawyers” would have the time, or the interest in ‘reporting’ anyone for such a silly reason. Much more likely, the ‘reason’ is a fixation with control over the god given rights of the lady in question to wear what she chooses. All in all it looks like the fourteenth century men – to their profound shame – have forgotten that they live in the 21st century.
Lookmann says
Correction;-
They are seventh – century men living in 21st century.

What is needed, in order to liberate the Muslims of Egypt, and indeed Muslims all over the Muslim world, is, among other things, organized pride parades and naked bike riding once a year through the streets of Cairo as we see them in big cities in the free, civilized West. That would prevent the legs of this actress to play any part in the court system of Egypt.
PS: In order to prevent misunderstandings, I want to state that I’m against burquas and niqabs in Egypt but in favor of burquas and niqabs in the West, IF THEY ARE DONNED FOR DEMONSTRATIVE AND MOCKING PURPOSES – which they unknowingly or knowingly are.

A dress like this violates common decency–at least for most of history in most societies. However, the sentence is excessive. Why not charge a fine and make her show her outfits to a probation officer for a period of time?
People should be able to turn on the TV and not have to worry that their children (and husbands) are bombarded with indecently dressed women. A lot of Muslims are simply turning to extreme Islam because they are so appalled by the libertine behavior of the West–for good reason. It seems to me that the backlash against modern dress happened about the time mass media with decadent morals and dress arrived in those countries. Certainly in the 1950’s and 1960’s dress in most Islamic countries was not as traditionally Islamic as it is today.

“However, the sentence is excessive.”
And how many years, pray, would you like women to be sentenced to for having visible legs?
There is nothing indecent about the body in itself. I personally appreciate the law against being confronted by people’s sexual organs in public, but apart from that, I think it is better for everyone to have a relaxed attitude to the sight of the human body.
The constant sexualization of the body is another matter and stems from a spiritual crisis in Western culture. Sex is being used as a substitute for meaning. This process does not at all depend on the sight of flesh – if anything, the more covered the body is, the more indecent it becomes to the mind.
It is each person’s own responsibility how, and when, to look at others.
It is not a crime to be embodied. Only a very sick society could think so.

Yet I wonder what they would think if their moslem prophet muhammed turned up for the film festival…

“Public obscenity”?Could Perfect Mo be jailed for cross-dressing if he lived in Egypt today? Most likely,Yes.
“And the Academy of Islamic cinema presents.. the Corporal Klinger award for best false prophet dressed as a woman to…muhammed……muhammed can’t be with us to night……he’s on his Winged Flying Horse…”

And in Hollywood it wouldn’t bat an eyelid.

It’s interesting you mention Hollywood. Not one of those rabid leftist anti-Trump tinsel freaks would protest in the slightest regarding the treatment of this woman. They are the ultimate symbol of spoiled dhimmi cowardice…….especially washed-up bobbi deniro, and cher bono.

Nothing wrong with her wearing that dress. Something definitely wrong with a backward religion.

Kind of ironic how her dress is identical to the ancient Egyptian woven beaded dress though isn’t it.
Islam is so incredibly weak it considers a dress like this a threat to its existence.
It goes without saying that Islam has all but destroyed ancient Egyptian culture which was actually progressive even under brief Sassanid rule, before Islam marched in and destroyed everything.
Islam does not belong in Egypt at all.

where are all feminists to protect her women rights?

They’re probably getting ready for next month’s Women’s March, with that paragon of Women’s Rights—Linda Sarsour.

In defense of common decency, and not savage sharia law, that isn’t a dress. It’s a bathing suit with a see through cloth lattice wrapped around the lower half. It’s offensive to God and other religions that teach and require modesty, but is harshly punished by islam’s sharia law.

Let me guess – you’ve never been to the Met, right?

Very Feminine & elegant. Shove these perverted priests into Dr. Who’s TARDIS & send them back to the 6-7th. Century. There’s a clip on youtube from Egypt with Premier NASSER from the 1950’s speaking about these religious nutters trying to make women wear these daft headscarves. Men dress for their status. Most Muslims dress in nightshirts & pyjamas at the same time & women dress for their sexuality. These religious nutters should just shut the f*** up!! No one is interested. If it offended God/Allah, surely he could send down a thunderbolt & incinerate the offending woman,……… surely?
