This is the regime that the European Union is avid to do business with. The international media excoriated Trump for leaving a deal that empowered and enabled this regime.
“Iranian Air Force Ready to ‘Eliminate Israel,’ Commander Says, as Tensions Rise Over Syria Airstrikes,” by Callum Paton, Newsweek, January 21, 2019:
The head of Iran’s air force has said the Islamic Republic’s pilots are eager to fight with Israel and will “eliminate it from the earth” in the wake of fresh Israeli strikes inside Syria and amid escalating tensions between the two regional rivals.
Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh said Monday that Iran and its air force were ready for a confrontation with Israel. “The young people in the air force are fully ready and impatient to confront the Zionist regime and eliminate it from the Earth,” he said according to Reuters which quoted a state-linked news website….

Why are Muslim leaders in the Islamic world often so incredibly full of hot air? I mean, okay, sadly, everyone lies to some extent at times, but the Islamic world’s leaders take it to an extreme of utterly empty and false bombast that is actually ridiculous and shameful to watch. One gets the feeling they simultaneously believe their own absurdly inflated BS and yet on some level know it’s total BS. And they don’t care a whit. Lying causes them no discomfort whatsoever and there is no attempt whatsoever to minimize it. So you get the most ridiculous bombast. It’s incredibly ugly.
Rarely says
I have no idea, of course, how much bombast the Iranian leadership is spouting but Iran does have a formidable military. Iran cannot be taken lightly. If Iran mobilizes in Syria anything can happen.
Terry Gain says
Israel will destroy Iran.
eduardo odraude says
Agreed that it would be wrong to take them lightly. One should be prepared for the worst. But it seems likely the Iranian military cannot be anything but incompetent compared to the Israeli military. Iran may have some decent technology from Russia or China, I guess. But that sort of slapped together business organized by an authoritarian society can’t compete with a military organized by a free people capable of technologizing not just this or that component but the whole system.
eduardo odraude says
The real concern with Iran is when they get hold of a nuclear weapon. The nature of technological progress seems to indicate that it is not a matter of if, but when. At some point some jihadist seems likely to get hold of a deliverable nuke or other weapon of mass destruction. I just hope I’m wrong
eduardo odraude says
“But that sort of slapped together business organized by an authoritarian society can’t compete with a military organized by a free people capable of technologizing not just this or that component but the whole system.”
To that I should add something perhaps even more important. The military of a free people uses the insight and initiative of every soldier in a way that is impossible for the military of an authoritarian system, where often only the top commanders are willing to take initiative and make decisions.
Westman says
“Why are Muslim leaders in the Islamic world often so incredibly full of hot air?”
Because it’s Muhammad’s way to be victorious through terror, in this case verbal. It’s a bully’s rhetoric when faced with the real possibilty of losing a fight.
However, there are only two eventual outcomes for Iran: The Iranian people rise up and take back the nation or an eventual large-scale war, initially with Israel. If war, the sooner it happens the lower the cost to everyone. There is no question which side the Trump administration will support. Under a US Leftist government Israel might be on its own. The clock is ticking.

I think it’s up to Israel to take care of itself. I would think that what they would want to do is to open up some covert communications channels and find out if they could keep from stepping on each others toes. The rhetoric from Iran makes it difficult for Israel to be on anything but a hair-trigger.
The US, to the extent it sets getting rid of ISIS as its first priority, does have a bit of a stake in successful Iranian military moves in Syria. Of course, the main danger of ISIS to the US is inspiring terror incidents within our borders, a function also handled competently by the Muslim Brotherhood and the Saudi aristocracy, both more-or-less welcome in the halls of power.
And Israel does have a not-so-covert partnership with Saudi Arabia. I can’t wait for the US to withdraw entirely from the region, and leave the playing and horse-trading to those countries that are there, and understand the detailed situation.
gravenimage says
Israel is an ally of ours–our only real ally in the region. Whereas, Saudi Arabia and Iran were behind 9/11. Compare and contrast.
RonaldB says
I understand and appreciate your view. My view is that every country, however friendly, has its own interests, and it’s best to not get too enmeshed in each other’s affairs. If there are actions that are in our common interests, like getting rid of Iranian bases, we can have a specific agreement to that effect.
I do think the US ought to continue to veto the UN resolutions encouraging boycotts and condemnation of Israel, and that US agencies ought to do business with Israel. I’m against government requiring individuals, such as speech therapists, to sign pledges of non-boycott, although companies should be free to make such requirements.
Consider the possibility it may not be in the long-term interests of Israel to be stoking a blood-feud with Syria, although they may be tempted to do so under a US umbrella. Should that umbrella be withdrawn in the future, Israel would be out in the rain.
Garfield says
Iran funds Hezbollah. Hezbollah has infiltrated South America. They run massive amounts of drugs and are islamising South and central America. They are a threat. It’s not just some country far away. Iran and their drug cartels South of our border is a threat. Why have the Mexican cartels started beheading people? Same MO as Islamic terrorists because it’s the same people and same ideology.
gravenimage says
Israel is not “stoking a blood-feud with Syria”–Iran and Hezb’allah are attacking Israel from Syria.
RonaldB says
For Garfield: the fact that Iran sponsors crime in South America does not lead to the US associating itself with military support for Israeli strikes on Iran bases in Syria. South American is our bailiwick, so we can fight them here…or we can carry out strikes on Iran, making clear that are in retaliation for actions in South America. Or, we can give money and equipment to Israel to do so. It doesn’t seem to me that’s a very effective way of fighting drug and Islamist infiltration to South America.
For Gravenimage: Israel is initiating steps to annex the Golan heights. This will make Syria an active, permanent enemy. I’m not against the annexation. The Golan Heights were used as a staging ground for guerrilla attacks and artillery strikes on Israeli citizens. But, to annex the lands is a calculation, and I think the Israelis ought to make the decision and deal with the consequences.
gravenimage says
Actually, Israel’s continued existence makes all Muslims her “active, permanent enemies”.

Why is their surprise the EU wants to do business with Iran, this short video shows that the EU is funding buildings in Israel and breaking international law as well as its own rules.Detect a pattern here ?
RonaldB says
The EU is an evil organization, devoted to the advancement of huge, all-powerful, cultural Marxist bureaucracies. I advocate elsewhere that the US disengage from involvement in Israel affairs, including foreign aid and Israel do the same. This would free Israel to simply dismantle these settlements, and not worry about losing billions of US dollars it can do without anyway.
gravenimage says
Ronald, why are you so intent on our abandoning our ally Israel?
RonaldB says
I believe in separate countries, with separate interests. I never said anything against Israel. I said the US ought to end foreign aid to a vibrant economy well able to take care of itself.
I also think that if Israel depends on a US military umbrella, which it doesn’t, it will make decisions it wouldn’t have made otherwise. I don’t believe the US ought to be involved in the affairs of other countries, Israel included. I don’t believe in foreign (or military) aid to England. It doesn’t mean I’m opposed to England.
RonaldB says
Notice that if you actually look at the video, the EU is systematically sponsoring Bedouin settlements in a transparent attempt to create a non-Israel province out of Israeli territory. I would be happy if Israel simply dismantles the settlements and kicked the EU representatives out. But, as long as Israel is receiving US handouts, it has to look to the US for approval.
R Russell says
Iran is one of the countries mentioned in the Bible as attacking Israel in the ‘last days’, we have to expect these threats. They will be joined by Turkey and Russia and allies.
Some think we are close to this time, some not so close. Time will tell. Amir Tsarfati the Messianic Jew is very interesting on this subject.
Garfield says
I’ve read about this. I keep saying if Turkey gets too aggressive that will be the start of a huge war. I think Turkey will be the catalyst but it might be avoidable if Iran is neutralized. The Iraian people would like to be free and modern. It’s the evil mullahs that are the problem.
Joe Felon says
This is nothing but another idiotic Iranian spewing absurdities to threaten Israel. The Iranian Air Force would more than likely be destroyed on the ground, but if they are able to avoid that embarrassing fate, their F-14’s and other obsolete aircraft purchased in the 1970’s have absolutely no chance against the F-35’s, F-15’s and F-16’s flown by superb pilots such as the Israelis. It would be laughable if these barbaric islamists weren’t so insane.

This guy sounds like he’s already won instead of preparing to take a beating. I pray for peace for Israel. That may mean over irans dead body. I don’t wish to see a large scale conflict erupt. No doubt Jordan and SA and Egypt would at least be betting on Israel if not outright joining in for some limited role. The bright side is it would be a golden opportunity to destroy irans nuclear program.
