No surprise here.
The Qur’an contains numerous condemnations of homosexual activity: “And Lot when he said to his people, ‘Do you commit such immorality as no one has preceded you with from among the worlds? Indeed, you approach men with desire, instead of women. Rather, you are a transgressing people.’…And We rained upon them a rain of stones. Then see how was the end of the criminals.” (Qur’an 7:80-84)
Muhammad specifies the punishment for this in a hadith: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘Whoever you find doing the action of the people of Loot, execute the one who does it and the one to whom it is done.’” (Sunan Abu Dawud 4462)
Will gay rights advocates say a word about this? Of course not. It has long been established that in the hierarchy of politically correct causes, Islam trumps gay rights. When AFDI ran ads highlighting the mistreatment of gays in Islamic law, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors issued a resolution condemning not that mistreatment, but our ads. Gay advocates such as Theresa Sparks and Chris Stedman attacked us for daring to call attention to the institutionalized mistreatment of gays under Islamic law. It was that, or risk not being invited to the best parties.
“Iran publicly hangs man on homosexuality charges,” by Benjamin Weinthal, Jerusalem Post, January 26, 2019 (thanks to Tom):
The Islamic Republic of Iran publicly hanged a 31-year-old Iranian man after he was found guilty of charges related to violations of Iran’s anti-gay laws, according to the state-controlled Iranian Students’ News Agency.
The unidentified man was hanged on January 10 in the southwestern city of Kazeroon based on criminal violations of “lavat-e be onf” – sexual intercourse between two men, as well as kidnapping charges, according to ISNA. Iran’s radical sharia law system prescribes the death penalty for gay sex.
The ISNA reported that the 31-year-old kidnapped two 15-year-olds. The opaque inner workings of Iran’s judicial system create enormous difficulties for journalists and human rights advocates to examine judicial cases.
“The LGBT community in Iran has lived in terror for the last 40 years,” said Alireza Nader, CEO of Washington, DC-based research and advocacy organization New Iran. “Next time Foreign Minister Zarif speaks in Washington, the host and audience should ask him why his regime is one of the top executioner of gays in the world.”
According to a 2008 British WikiLeaks dispatch, Iran’s mullah regime executed “between 4,000 and 6,000 gays and lesbians” since the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
“Iran is not only the most dangerous threat to Israel’s security, it is also a champion in the state murder of actual or perceived homosexuals,” said Volker Beck, a German Party Green Party politician and a lecturer at the Center for Studies in Religious Sciences (CERES) at the Ruhr University in Bochum. “It would be desirable for the federal government to make Iran’s human rights violations more of an issue.”…
Walter Sieruk says
The tile of this message is well put if it would be “homosexuals in Iran” and not “Homosexuals who live in Iran.” For many of them are six feet under in Iran as in dead and buried. As exposed in a book by a former Muslims .Which reveals that “Estimates by human rights activists and opponents of the Islamic Republic of Iran of the number of gay men and lesbian s executed for crimes related to their sexual orientation since 1979 vary between several hundred to as many as six thousand. According to the Boroumand Foundation, records exist for at least 107 executions with charges related to homosexuality between 1979 and 1990 . Iran is one of the eight countries in the world when homosexual acts are punishable by death; all are Islamic. According to a 2013 report from the IHRDC:” [1]

So you’re finally admitting , the ayatollahs regime in Iran is evil , “christianblood”?
christianblood says
Ernie
The Ayatollahs of Iran are NO progressives but compared to Saudi Arabia’s religious elite and to other Sunni extremists like Al-Qaeda, ISIS, Boko-Haram, Al-shabab and many others they are indeed more tolerant and more peaceful! Anyone denying that fact is either dishonest or uninformed!
Ernie says
A simple YES or NO would do for an answer “christianblood”. And assuming YOU are WELL INFORMED ( you’re bragging regularly you are ) , I’ll assume YOU ARE DISHONEST . Not a real surprice : You’re beating about the bush as usual….UGH ! I wasn’t talking about PROGRESSIVE/CONSERVATIVE , TOLERANT/INTOLERANT , PEACEFUL or WARLIKE .
christianblood says

The point I am making is that relative to Sunni extremists like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Taliban, Al-Qaeda, ISIS, Boko-Haram, Al-shabab and many other Sunni extremists, the Ayatlulahs or Shiites in general are more tolerant, more rational and much more compassionate! Hope you understand that!
Ernie says
I certainly understand that you never answered my question “christianblood “. Comparing the ayatollahs regime with other islamic regimes wasn’t ( part of ) the question , and you know that very well .
Ernie says
Compassionate ? The ayatollahs regime ? You EVIL LIAR !

I see the appalling christianblood is characterizing hanging gay people as “rational”, “tolerant”, “peaceful”. and “compassionate”. *Good God*.
And one supposes he feels the same about stoning women to death, since he has consistently refused to condemn this horror in Iran, either.
As for the US “colluding” with the Mullahs, we did not stop them–that’s as far as such “collusion” went.
And if we *had* stopped them? The christianblood would add it to his list of supposed American “evils”.

You blindly, ignorantly and uncritically believe in and spread malicious US propaganda which has NOTHING to the real facts on the ground!
Listen, I deal with the FACTS with some baseless and American deep state malicious propaganda and lies!
According to the (thereligionofpeace.com) 34508 deadly islamic terrorist attacks have been carried out since 9/11. Show me a single one of them perpetrated or carried out by Iranians, Hezbollah or Shiites???
Please understand this: when I say prove me a terrorist attack that was perpetrated by Iran or Hezbollah I mean show me a real terrorist attack like a suicide bombing in a mosque, a cinema, a bar, a church or a school like the one that killed 48 Shiite students in Afghanistan yesterday! Show me Iranians or Shiite terrorist members beheading Westerners or Christians or Sunnis on video while screaming allahu akbar! Show me Iranian or Shiite terrorists gunning down people in night clubs or bombing trains, or attacking news paper offices and killing journalists or using vehicles and killing hundreds of civilians as happen in Europe for the past two years or flying planes into buildings! That is what I mean a terrorist attack which is a daily occurrence around the globe! So go, show me a single one of these proven, verifiable terror attacks perpetrated by Iran or Shiites or or shut up and stop spreading and some baseless, politically-motivated and malicious U$ propaganda against Iran and other minority Shiites!
christianblood says

If there is any terrorist state it is NOT Iran which invaded or bombed NO one but the U$ which has bombed and invaded dozens and dozens of countries since 1945 murdering millions of civilians as a result.

cornelius says
The idea that the Iranian Revolution was an “Anglo-American coup” is so fantastical that it warrants only scorn. It negates the realities on the ground in Iran….that there were daily demonstrations in Tehran and other cities encompassing millions of Iranians protesting the rule of the Shah. The economy, social order….had all broken down….the bazaar merchants were striking, the workers in the factories were striking,…it was chaos.
The Shah’s military had fired on the crowds in the early days of the rebellion, but once the uprising gathered steam and the crowds became immense, they no longer dared. The survival of the regime was untenable.
Whatever evils one might want to ascribe to the Islamic Revolution in Iran – (and God knows there are many) – it WAS an indigenous uprising reflecting the will of the majority of the people. Things changed fairly quickly as the Provisional government led by Mehdi Bazargan was subsumed by the Ayatollahs and support for the regime frayed, but by then it was too late. The new regime’s shock-troops fired on anti-government demonstrators with an enthusiasm that the Shah’s military wouldn’t have dreamed of.
This is in no way a defense of the Islamic Republic….I despise the regime. But it’s birth was a reflection of the desires of the Iranian people for an end to the despotism of the Shah. They thought they could ride the coat-tails of the mullahs into a prosperous, democratic future. The revolution was the culmination of their hopes, their dreams, and their religiosity. ALL OF IT turned out to be based on delusion. Rightly or wrongly, Jimmy Carter may have facilitated the Shah’s departure, but the situation was a fait accompli. The onus of responsibility is on the millions of Iranians who turned our daily in demonstrations in support of the mullahs.
christianblood says
cornelius
The Iranian Revolution was backed not only by the CIA but by the French intelligence who sheltered Khumeini and his associates for years. Even before the Khumeinist Revolution the CIA and MI6 helped overthrow the democratically elected leader of Iran and facilitated the return of the Shah. Please watch the 6 minute documentary below which is about the subject matter and in it, American officials, including Obama and others are admitting the US direct involvement in these matters:

So, christianblood, you’re effectively admitting that the Shah’s regime was better than what followed? Or is it the case that you actually think the Ayatollahs’ regime is better than that of the Shah’s but, what the hell, if you have a chance to denigrate America why not take it, eh?
The CIA, christianblood, made mistakes (also got a lot of things right too), but, in the final analysis it is the intelligence agency for a democracy. The KGB (and its successor to this very day) was an intelligence agency for a tyranny (and its successor for a semi-tyranny under Putin) . You will miss all this because you miss so much, but sometimes facts have to be stated to the intellectually and morally confused, like you, in order that the truth doesn’t get irrretrievably lost.

I never denied that the Shah and Mozadeck before him, who was over thrown by the CIA were far better than the Ayatulahs. The Ayatulahs are not progressives but are Shiite autocratic Islamist rulers but it is also true that compared to their Sunni counterparts such as Saudi Arabia, ISIS, Al-Qaeda, Al-shabab, Boko Haram and many others Ayatalulahs are much more progressive, relatively rational and more tolerant and I do have problem with people who are denying that fact.
Wellington says
With you, mortimer. And may I say that what christianblood has written about you here at JW I find utterly disgusting.
Wellington says
Christianblood: To use the word “progressive” at all to describe the despicable Iranian ayatollahs and their supporters reveals far more about you than you realize. For God’s sake man, just consider this very article—the Iranian regime is killing gays for the “great crime” of being gay. And you want to use a word like “progressive” to describe this regime? See the “problem?” No, I’m certain you don’t.

Wait–now christianblood considers the Mullahs *progressive* for hanging gay people? *Ugh*. This should not surprise–he has also refused to condemn Chechnya for running concentration camps and murdering gay people.
He has also said that Jihad terror is not a threat, but gay parades *are*.
He has also–as again above–castigated the United States for saving people from Fascism and Communism (as he would no doubt also castigate them if they had done anything to stop the Islamic Revolution in Iran).
And–as I have noted here many times–Mortimer rightly called christianblood on his hypocrisy for using his moniker since he actually condones the persecution of Christians in Syria, Chechnya, and–yes–Iran. This was not–as christianblood pretends–about Mortimer “hating Christ” or Christians, which he has *never* done. In fact, Mortimer often posts here about the terrible persecution of Christians at Muslim hands.
And one may wonder what christianblood’s ranting about Mortimer’s “tribe” is all about. This is more of his vicious antisemitism. (Never mind that there is no indication that Mortimer is Jewish, in any case; christianblood does not care).
And then christianblood is pretending that he is Christ-like in his apologia for the hanging of gay people. What calumny. *Appalling*.

Wellington, Mortimer, and a couple of others: ChristianBlood reminds me of someone near and dear to me for whom Russia, whether Soviet or post, can do no wrong. He goes on and on about how Russia suffered so much in WWII, and that the RUssians killed Hitler. When told how the Soviets and Nazis kissed over the corpses of Poland and the Baltics, he notes Poland’s seizure of Teschen. The only difference is that this person near and dear to me has not embraced Eastern Orthodox Christianity. Re Eastern Orthodoxy, I’m glad for Putin that he has apparently made peace with the Christian God, the one his much younger self was trained to disbelieve in and view as a relic of pre-scientific superstition. However, as a Protestant, I view myself and other Christians as forgiven sinners daily in need of grace. Paul the Apostle died calling himself the chief of sinners, and spoke of indwelling sin with the words “wretched man that I am” rather than “wretched man that I was”. We stand or fall not because the title Christian makes us morally perfect, but because God imputed our sin to Christ as he bore it on the cross, and imputed Christ’s righteousness to us as we receive Christ by faith.
As a former diplomat, I would like to see a less assertive US foreign policy. John Quincy Adams nailed it when he said the USA should be the well-wisher of liberty everywhere, but champion only of its own. As for Iran, the CIA, and the Pahlavi dynasty, I can only note that Mossadegh was a lion towards British oil concessions, but bowed to his Tudeh friends saying that accepting Soviet ones was a matter of international solidarity. And at the time, the Shah was welcomed back. It only goes to show that Iranians, like everyone else, can be fickle, and change their minds over time. I dissented against the first Gulf War in that I saw it would be inconclusive, and believed that the task of US foreign policy was to recognize that history did not end in 1989-1991 (that end-of-history meme showed how much Marxist apocalypticism had infected our own policy community). I’d agree with ChristianBlood that our Syrian intervention was ill-advised and poorly thought out; while our destabilizing Libya was a foolish game on the part of the O [keep in mind know some Hakka], Shrillary Shroooo, and Samantha Powerhungry that “anything you [Nincompoop George Bush] can do [overthrow a nasty Arab despot], I can do better”–and it of course came off arguably worse for everyone.
That being said, you are right that our CIA is an intelligence service for democracy rather than tyranny, and probably necessary in a dangerous world (I have long believed that we would have been wiser to improve our Humint capabilities to the point of being able to pull a wet operation on OBL than get into wars in Afghanistan and Iraq in response to 9/11).
I do not share CB’s illusions about Putin’s regime. Russia’s actions in Ukraine and towards the Baltic states shows a kind of vindictive imperialism at work. The idea shared by some of the “Browns” in Russia’s “Brown-Red” coalition that Russia and the Islamic world can serve as a traditionalist foil to the West is as much a crock as our own search for Islamic “moderates”.
As for the Ayatollahs, the Iranian people have made their bed and must lie in it. I do not getting a Mojaheddin-e-Qalq demonstrator on the Washington mall to piss himself. That opposition to the Ayatollahs boasted it had the first group of “revolutionary fighters” to enter “the nest of spies” back in 1979, and the USA has no business dealing with them or allowing them into our country.

God bless you Kepha! I do share the same hope in Jesus and in the holy teachings of Apostles like Saint Paulos. As an Orthodox Christian, I do believe that Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is indeed the Lord of the Sabbath and that He is the healer of all diseases, exposer of all lies and the forgiver of all sins (…And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow–not even the powers of hell can separate us from the Love of God which is in Christ Jesus…) Romans 8:38.
I am saddened that the haters of the Christ are out into world to spread lies, to oppose His teachings, to destroy holy morals and precepts and to support evil in its many different manifestations while hiding behind other “progressive” social agendas, like secularism, multiculturalism etc!
As Saint Paulos says in Ephesians 6:12 (…Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the RULERS, against the AUTHORITIES, against the POWERS of this dark world and against the SPIRITUAL FORCES OF EVIL in the heavenly realms…)

Western leftists are hypocrites.
