Yesterday I noted the Western intelligentsia’s seemingly endless “capacity for self-flagellation and self-hatred.” Another manifestation of the same tendency is what we can call the Jefferson’s Qur’an Effect: claiming that public figures of the past who had any interest in Islam for any reason, even if they publicly expressed negative views of the religion, were actually enthralled by the religion and may even have been secret converts.
Here is the reality of what Churchill thought of Islam, whatever “fascination” he may have had, or how often he wore Arabic clothing: “How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property—either as a child, a wife, or a concubine—must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.”
But the Express, like the rest of the British media, is trying to make British people love Islam, so that they will complacently accept mass Muslim migration and the increasing presence of jihad terror and Sharia oppression of women and others in British society. Only ten paragraphs down in this story do they tell us that “Churchill never seriously considered converting.” Thanks for the information.
“Winston Churchill BOMBSHELL: War hero’s ‘FASCINATION with Islam’ revealed in lost letter,” by Callum Hoare, Express, January 24, 2019:
WINSTON Churchill was fascinated by the Islamic faith and some of his family believed he might have even converted to the religion after his time in India with the British Army, an uncovered letter reveals.
Although Churchill has become the embodiment of the British bulldog spirit he was also a strong admirer of the Islamic faith – so much so and his relatives believed he was on the verge of becoming a Muslim at the turn of the 20th century. The revelation is buried in a letter to Mr Churchill from his future sister-in-law, Lady Gwendoline Bertie, written in August 1907. In the letter, found by Warren Dockter of Cambridge University, Lady Gwendoline wrote: “Please don’t become converted to Islam.
“I have noticed in your disposition a tendency to orientalise Pasha-like tendencies, I really have.
“If you come into contact with Islam your conversion might be effected with greater ease than you might have supposed, call of the blood, don’t you know what I mean, do fight against it.”…
In a letter written to Lady Constance Georgina Bulwer-Lytton in 1907, Mr Churchill revealed he “wished he were” a Pasha, which was a rank of distinction in the Ottoman Empire at the time.
He also took to dressing in Arabic clothing while with friends, Dr Dockter – author, historian and research fellow at Cambridge University – claims.
He said: “Lady Gwendoline Bertie would have been worried because Churchill was leaving for an African tour and she would have known Churchill had been seeing his friend, Wilfrid S. Blunt – who was a renowned Arabist, anti-imperialist and poet.
“He and Churchill were friends and dressed in Arabian dresses at times for Blunt’s eccentric parties, but they rarely agreed.”
Although Mr Churchill was fascinated with the faith and culture, Dr Dockter claims he would have stopped short at converting to Islam.
He added: “Churchill never seriously considered converting.
”He was more or less an atheist by this time anyway.
“He did, however, have a fascination with Islamic culture which was common among Victorians.”…

But wait, Eddie. Take a look at Numbers 15: 22-30. This man gathering wood on the Sabbath did it intentionally. He was warned not to but he did it anyway and he paid the penalty. Christ had not yet come to take the man’s sin upon Himself at His death on the Cross …… so the man had to pay the penalty of death himself.

Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen: all know how to die; but the influence of the religion paralyses the social developement of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytising faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science —the science against which it had vainly struggled— the civilisation of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilisation of ancient Rome.

Yes, somehistory, she is indeed young and foolish but my chief worry is not her per se but rather the millennial generation which is also exceedingly foolish to date. This must change as the millennials get older or America is in very deep trouble. After all, there is almost nothing quite like ignorance to wreck any experiment with freedom. And as many prominent people over the generations have noted, as an example Douglas MacArthur, if America meets its demise it will be from within and not from without.
As for her mouth being out of control, I can only hope it will continue that way. The self-destruction of a influential person who is inimical to liberty is not only a spectator sport, it is an imperative for liberty’s preservation.

One good thing to come out of this farcical article in Express, with its sensationalist headline that is denied in the actual text, is that now that the subject of Churchill and Islam has been raised, his remarkable statement in the first edition of The River War can be brought to the attention of a much wider audience. Once you have read that paragraph — brilliant in form and in content — it is impossible to forget.
Churchill could not stand Islam and its effect on the minds of its adherents. The “fascination” was not of the good kind. It was prompted not by admiration but by horror, a horror that comes through in every word of that paragraph. Beyond the grave, d’outre-tombe, Churchill continues to perform a very great service for the West.

“How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries [=those who are devoted to Islam]! [Islam lays curses on Muslims? What curses? [What are Muslims fanatically frienzied about? Hi Mark, You wrote:

Some of Churchill’s phrasing can sound dated at this point.
More:
“How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries [=those who are devoted to Islam]! [Islam lays curses on Muslims? What curses? Doesn’t Islam lay praise on Muslims (Q3:110) and curses on kuffar (Q98:6)?]
……………………….
Yes, Islam praises Muslims–but it also demands that Muslims live ugly, loveless lives.
While our main focus is, rightly, on the threat that Islam presents to us, it also makes life pretty ugly for any Muslim who takes is seriously, as well.
More:
Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. [What are Muslims fanatically frienzied about? Fatalistic apathy sound plausible, because Allah decides everything, but is contrary to frenzy, which is energetic.]
……………………….
Muslims are frenzied all the time, Mark. When Muslims riot or go on violent Jihad rampages, they are showing fanatical frenzy.
More:
A degraded sensualism [What does this refer to?] deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity.”
……………………….
This refers to polygamy, rape, and the keeping of sex slaves–it probably also refers to Muslims often molesting little boys.

The reference to “the next” means the Islamic “paradise”, which is essentially a whorehouse in the sky–with those 72 renewing virgins and its “pearly boys”. There is nothing spiritual about the Muslim paradise.

Some would say that he only played religion to gain in politics.
He was neither Church of England, nor Roman Catholic, or Baptist, or etc.. the things that would divide, but could relate and understand what had to be done and what he felt called to do.
What he wanted and knew was that only a successfully unified Great Britain, for one objective, to hold and then win the war against the Germans which had absorbed the nazism ideology, in which he recognized its evil intent of supremacy and domination in the early 1930’s.

KWJ says
I think what Churchill thought was the equivalent of when young I’d read about so-called haunted houses until I determined it was bunk. Many subjects are interesting but when you see them in action and come to know more details, as Churchill did, the fascination wears off quickly. Exotic clothing is just fun or different to dress up in. In the 1930s and 40s, costume parties were popular among the affluent and on cruise ships that visited Cairo.
Churchill acknowledged that there were Muslims with “splendid qualities” but that’s because of those Muslims’ personalities not Islam. A reason propagandists wrongly say anti-Muslim about people, say like Robert, who are truly anti-Islam and how it affects Muslims who may or may not understand why they think and act as they do.
By not quoting what Churchill came to see as negative about Islam leaves out something important: little has changed. Same as with Sir Charles Muir’s book The Life of Mahomet which you can read online. It’s over 100 years old and is still relevant. (He would be called an Islamophobia today. He had said that Islam could never reform among other things such as lack of personality development, etc.)
Thomas Jefferson would have been no fan of Islamic law since he believed in a wall between religion and government. James Madison had harsh words for it long before Churchill. And so what? That was their opinion and Islam is more ideology than religion. The Muslims’ behavior during the Barbary Wars didn’t help and they were saying the same kinds of things terrorist groups and clerics say today. If Islam has an image problem, that’s their fault. They complain about us too and teach one-sided history.
These kinds of articles are fruitless because no matter what you say there is a difference of various values and culture and nothing will smooth over that fact.
