The Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and Muslim leaders in the U.S. constantly insist that Sharia is entirely benign and wholly compatible with American law and principles, and that only racist, bigoted “Islamophobes” think otherwise. Will any Hamas-linked CAIR spokesman, or any other Islamic spokesman in the U.S., explain how Brunei is misapplying Sharia? Islamic apologist and “Islamophobia” propagandist Reza Aslan and others have also repeatedly insisted that there are so very many versions and variations of Sharia that it cannot possibly be characterized at all. Will any of them be so kind as to produce a version of Sharia that does not teach that homosexual men should be executed?
None of that will happen. But the deceptions will continue to circulate, and to dominate the public discourse.
“Brunei defends tough new Islamic laws against growing backlash,” Reuters, March 30, 2019:
KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) – Brunei has defended its right to implement Islamic laws that would allow death by stoning for adultery and homosexuality against growing global criticism.
Brunei, a Muslim-majority former British protectorate with a population of around 400,000, will implement the Sharia laws from April 3, punishing sodomy, adultery and rape with the death penalty, including by stoning, and theft with amputation.
The laws, elements of which were first adopted in 2014 and which have been rolled out in phases since then, will be fully implemented from next week, the prime minister’s office said in a statement on Saturday.
“The (Sharia) Law, apart from criminalizing and deterring acts that are against the teachings of Islam, also aims to educate, respect and protect the legitimate rights of all individuals, society or nationality of any faiths and race,” the statement said.
Some aspects of the laws will apply to non-Muslims….
“Stoning people to death for homosexuality or adultery is appalling and immoral,” former U.S. vice president Joe Biden said in a Twitter post on Friday. “There is no excuse – not culture, not tradition – for this kind of hate and inhumanity.”…
Joe, how Islamophobic of you!
CogitoErgoSum says
At least Christians have Christ to take away the punishment for sins that once required the death penalty. Muslims just have Muhammad up front repeating “kill them.” But just because you think you have the right to kill somebody, do you really have to do the killing? Plus, I don’t see how being gay takes away any rights from anybody else. Under my own religion I see homosexuality as a sin but I will say the same about it as I do about praying. If you are going to do it, do it in private. The rest is between you and your god.

Whether you have a god or not, it is your business and not that of some religious busybody who thinks it gives him, or her, the right to behead/stone/defenestrate you. As noted, it does not interfere with the rights of others, which is the basis for whether or not it is even an issue for law enforcement anywhere.
As for Brunei, from what I understand of its history its rulers would be better served considering all the violations of the rights of others — their record of sexual enslavement of women is notorious — for which they and their predecessors might be required to answer.

Most interesting how “getting religion” seems to license people to lay down the law about sex to other people.
Why can’t they leave other people alone ? They make God look like a sex-obsessed policeman.

That cracked me up. I have never heard it like that before.
What people do not understand, they inadvertently put themselves as God by going around telling other people what to do.
I do get rules for breaking society and committing crimes against others and people should get involved. But for they way people choose to live their own lives without harming others, is between them and their maker. Not for me to judge. I have my own things as well that are not perfect.

How does one define sharia law? I assume it’s based upon abrogated Koran passages, and Hadiths that deal with the prophet’s dispensations of law judgments — and like American law, set in books that judges can refer to on a case by case basis of president. Or, is it suggested by Aslan that any group of disparate Muslims who concoct law based upon the Koran create ‘sharia’ law?
How is sharia different among Muslims? Between Shia and Sunni? Between Turkish and Arab? Do the variations in sharia law crop up between cultures and nations; as between Tunisia and Indonesia?
I would assume all sharia law is written in Arabic and derived from Sunni or Shiite scholars and jurists. particularly those who participated in a caliphate.
Resa Aslan is indeed an annoying propagandist, apologist and liar for Islam — and I hear his arguments echoed among people I know and argue with; so some expansion upon those remarks of Aslan would be appreciated.
This idea of Islam as a disparate freely interpreting groups goes to the core of this apologist effort by so many that Islam is not a megalithic unified entity but a fractured and un focused set of differing from nation to nation, and views by those who interpret the Koran in a variety of ways ; therefore Islam cannot be held accountable for its more extremist devotees behavior — any more, say, than that all of Protestant denominations can be be held accountable for the snake bites that a minor sect of the Pentecostals suffer.
Raymond Lincourt says
THE SOURCES OF SHARIA
1. THE KORAN
Worldwide, Muslims consider Sharia as “the law of Allah“. However, only a small part of the Sharia is from Allah himself. There is a simple reason for that, namely that the Koran – the word of Allah – is barely dealing with legal aspects of Islam. Among the 6,236 verses in Koran not more than 100 verses comment on legal topics. Ironically, most of those Koran verses deal with Mohammed’s marital difficulties. Since The Koran shed little light on how Muslims could find “the way to the oasis” there were also other influences.
2. THE LIFE OF MOHAMMED
The second source is Mohammed’s proverbs and personal writings on his own life. According to Islamic scholars, Mohammed’s proverbs have almost the same rank as the Koran in terms of weight and importance in a Muslims life. Moreover, they say that Allah demanded all Muslims to obey Mohammed and to imitate him in all areas of their lives. The Koran itself does not comment on many common Muslim practices. For example, how to perform the Islamic prayer or how to fast during Ramadan. Muslims learn these laws from the reports about Mohammed’s life.
Yes, the majority of Sharia comes from a man, a sinner, a person who heard voices in a cave and told the world an angel of God told him.
mortimer says
Raymond, you are wrong on the origin of Sharia. It did not exist at the time of Mohammed or his companions, but developed over centuries, finally being completed in 1111AD. Muslim men constructed Sharia. Apparently, they understood Islam better than Mohammed and his companions. How is it possible for men who lived hundreds of years after Mohammed to know more about Islam than Mohammed?
gravenimage says
Mortimer, Islamic law was utterly savage under the “Prophet”. While not all of Shari’ah may have been codified in Muhammed’s day, most of it already existed–including child marriage, polygamy, wife beating, persecuting Infidels, and stoning women accused of adultery to death.

Let’s hope that this development will finally begin to dismantle the distraction of some Muslim countries practising Shari’a and others not. It’s a distraction that serves to feed the desperate liberal need for there to be nice Muslims and democratic Muslim societies, the existence of which makes it possible to avoid facing up to the barbaric cruelty of Islam, the duplicity and deceit of Muslims, and the unreliability of Muslim states.
A Muslim country not practising Shari’a is no indication at all of that country’s membership of a civilised community of nations. It merely indicated that at this particular moment, Shari’a is not practised in that country. It is only a matter of time before someone comes along to put things right again. One day Indonesia is the darling of every Muslim apologist and propagandist (or, at least, of Mehdi Hasan), and the next day it’s crawling with the largest number of jihad terror organisations in the world, and the most brutal provisions of Shari’a gleefully perpetrated by nice Muslim families who blow themselves up. One moment Turkey is the model Muslim democracy, the next moment its leader unleashes his jihad attack dogs accross Europe.
No matter what form of government or law a Muslim country boasts at any particular point in time, while it remains a Muslim country the Shari’a imperative remains, even if, for the moment, ignored. Of course Brunei’s headlong rush back to the 7th century is very bad news its 400,000 people who will now have to bear the brunt of the perfect religion imposed on them in all its perfection. But we should not be surprised that this has happened. It can happen anywhere, including in “enlightened” Bosnia and Kosovo. It is just a matter of time before some Muslim takes the Qur’an seriously and reminds Bosnians and Kosovars of what they are. Then it kicks off all over again.
BTW, I say “Muslim countries” and not “Muslim-majority countries” because the latter is another Muslim propagandist ruse (a Maajid Nawaz favourite) designed to portray Muslim societies as pluralist. They are nothing of the kind.
gravenimage says
A majority of Muslims everywhere supports the imposition of Shari’ah law.
elee says
You have articulated exactly why I keep posting: every Muslim is a sleeper. Reason doesn’t inoculate against their activation, facts don’t inoculate, nor do the highest living standards in the history of the world. There’s a streak in the (in)human psyche that Islam addresses, that delights in brutalising others. As long as the Muslim scriptures are around, some children of children of Muslims will find it and act out the dark places in their souls with weapons known or unknown in 7th-century Arabia. This is why Islam is dangerous, even if and when the great majority of people who call themselves Muslims don’t activate and if asked their views would zealously change the subject.
Anjuli Pandavar says
elee, “As long as the Muslim scriptures are around.”
—
Salman Rushdie pointed out that once something is written, it cannot be unwritten. Not only is that true philosophically, but in today’s world also physically. It is no longer possible to destroy or ban a book. Aside from that, though, I would disagree with you on banning/destroying any book, including the Muslim scriptures. This is not only for the practical reason that to do so would create an incentive to acquire them and thereby imbue them with added value. The only way, in my opinion, to not be swayed by the content of the Qur’an and the Hadith is to be rational, humane and ethically superior to them, and then to know their content.
I accept that this is easier said than done. The madrassas get to children’s minds in their most tender years and do all they can to hardwire those children against rationality, humanity and the ethics on which these are predicated. When ISIS boasts that they and their successors will never be defeated for as long as “the Qur’an lives in the hearts of Muslims,” it is not an idle boast. The Muslim scriptures are in the hearts of Muslims *even if they’ve never read them and are unfamiliar with their contents.” They commands an allegiance well-insulated against all reason, humanity and ethics. So I’m afraid that when “some children of children of Muslims will find it”, they will find it in their own hearts and either act on it directly from there as mindless killing machines, or copy them to their heads and become incredibly shrewd and manipulative apologists, propagandists, recruiters and da’wa artists.
So, in effect, it is less important to them to know their scriptures than it is to us, their intended victims. We need to know what drives them and what they’re likely to get up to next, and to grasp that to fight them is *not* a matter of reason. It has nothing whatsoever to do with arguments or evidence. They must be attacked where their Qur’an lives: in the heart. The hold of the Muslim scriptures on the Muslim heart will only be broken if Muslims are constantly and deeply offended, if the most precious tenets of their faith are viciously insulted and if they, their practices, their ideas, their prophet and their allah are mocked without restraint or end. THIS WORKS. Otherwise, we need to arrange things so that these heart-freezing scriptures never enter their children’s hearts in the first place.

David M says
George Clooney has called for a boycott of hotels owned by the Sultan of Brunei. That’s good, but George is also married to a Muslim woman. Sharia law is just Islamic law. He wants it both ways, by marrying a Muslim he gives de facto recognition to Islam, but he doesn’t like Islam in practice, which is sharia law. So which is it George, is Islam ok as per marrying a Muslim, or is it not ok when you see Islam in practice with these barbaric sharia practices?
David M says
Actually I just read that Amal Clooney is not a Muslim herself, despite her parents being Muslim. George says his wife is not religious at all. So I take back my comment on George, & we should all boycott these hotels as per his request.

Mohammad’s Mental illness
MohammadKhanzeer
Published on 4 May 2011
Category Education
Schizophrenia: Common symptoms of schizophrenia include hallucinations and delusions, such hearing voices that aren’t there and perceiving situations that are actually not present.
According to the Hadith(s) and the quran, mohammed frequently came into contact with an “angle” measuring into 100’s of individual conversations.
Often before a take-over, in the desert whilst the quran was being written.
Yet, regardless of his ever-growing army, followers, wives, and slaves. Not once, did anyone witness the “angle” apart from himself, regardless of’ where the angle came to him.
Schizophrenia writing style:
The patients writing style is often incredible disjointed, incoherent and chaotic by nature.
Disjointed Thoughts (thoughts disorder):
• Thought and speech may not follow a normal logical pattern.
• Thought Echoing, internal thoughts which are heard, as if spoken out loud.
• Knights move thinking. The person moves from one trail of thought to the next with no apparent connection to the first.
Anyone who has read the quran will take notice of the constant disjointed nature of the writing style. Often with a verse having no connection to the one before it and after.
A common occurrence of the quran is the lack of structure, leading to verses about a single subject, to span the entire quran from front to back and with each particular verse having no information to suggest the verses of the subject through the book are in any way connected to each other. Often leading to contradictions, excused by muslims.
A frequent occurrence of patients diagnosed with schizophrenia is constant repetition of the key words and points.
Mind repeated 49 times
Benefit repeated 50 times
Disaster repeated over 75 times
Satan Repeated 88 times
Paradise Repeated 77 times
Angle Repeated over 70 times
Rewards Repeated 117 times
World Repeated 115times
Action over 100 times
Day Repeated over 300 times
Allah Repeated over 2,690 times
The quran is full of unnecessary repetion Not only in the word, sentences or even the assonance but also in the stories. For example ,
the story of the prophet “Lot” was mentioned 8 times.
The story of “Noah” was mentioned 11 times
“Ibrahim” was mentioned 69 times
“Pharaoh” was mentioned 74 times
“Mosa” was mentioned 136 times and his story was mentioned 7 times
Note: Those who have no knowledge of mental illnesses (Psychiatric illnesses) will say from literally point of view “Muhammed is not in any sense a master of style”.
Disorders of thought possession:
• Thought insertion, Where the patient believes their mind is not their own.
• Thought withdrawal, the patient believes their thoughts are being removed from an outside entity.
A common occurrence of the quran is to blame “djinns” and “satan” for various mental alterations. Such as a removal of thoughts or a temptation of the mind, leading to actions.
According to the most authentic sources of Islamic history.
Mohammed underwent a period of 40+ days 1 year being under satan control.
A specific dealing with the world and thought of Muhammad.
Conclusion:
Many characteristics of muhammed conclude a significant level of similarities of a patient with a severe case of Schizopherenia.
The concept is only hidden by Islamic apologetics and verse distortations to give false credibility of mohammeds “divine Intervention” through “miraculous knowledge” which doesn’t actually exist in the quran.

Very interesting subject matter. One can’t help but wonder Muhammad’s state of mind in 7th century Arabia. Clearly, it is not the state of mind of an individual who is all loving, compassionate, forgiving, accepting, and tolerant of all human beings. The wide acknowledgement and acceptance for mental health is just now being understood. In 7th century, no one would have thought muhammad had mental illness, much less what we now know today to be schizophrenia. But from his words and actions alone, it is fair to at least question his state of mind. We question Donald Trump’s state of mind and other public figures. We can also question a self-proclaimed prophet’s state of mind as well.

Excellent. So well reasoned and thoroughly documented. Muhammad was a real sad sack: superstitious, narcissistic, uneducated, and afflicted with a variety of mental issues. had he not invented such a toxic and dangerous religion, you could almost feel sorry for him. Alas, the whole human race is suffering the after effects of Muhammad’s psychological disorders.
===========================
Effect of mental illness: another example
Prophet (ﷺ) had suddenly attacked Bani Mustaliq without warning
Narrated Ibn `Aun:
I wrote a letter to Nafi` and Nafi` wrote in reply to my letter that the Prophet (ﷺ) had suddenly attacked Bani Mustaliq without warning while they were heedless and their cattle were being watered at the places of water. Their fighting men were killed and their women and children were taken as captives; the Prophet (ﷺ) got Juwairiya on that day. Nafi` said that Ibn `Umar had told him the above narration and that Ibn `Umar was in that army. https://sunnah.com/bukhari/49/25
obsessive compulsive disorder
Apostate Prophet, have you noticed Muhammad doing and saying really lot of things 3 times. Search “three times” in authentic hadiths. Number of cases he does is amazing. That is not coincidence This odd ritual is actually due to problematic mental state of Muhammad. Mental state of Muhammad is the topic people have to notice. Do you think he had obsessive compulsive disorder?
he put eyeliner 3x a day and he wore perfume, he developed a compulsive disorder: going into the bathroom with your left leg and by going out use your right foot (there are people who left their house 3x and went back to see if they had turned off the gas or the lights), do ablution 3x, he had many fears: dogs, lizards and fear of laying on your stomach (allah will send you to hell), fear of satan sleeps in his nose that’s why he rinsed his nose 3x, he greeted people 3x etc.
