Mount Royal University suddenly cancelled a talk by Armin Navabi, “an Iranian-Canadian atheist activist who was scheduled to deliver a talk critical of Islam.” Navabi is not only an apostate, which is a capital offense in Iran; he is now also being punished for criticizing Islam in Canada.
The University told organizers: “In light of the shooting last week and the responses to the event we have received from students and staff, we are going to have to cancel hosting your event with Armin on campus.” Shameful. Armin Navabi had nothing to do with the shooting, and the idea that any criticism of Islam will somehow incite violence is absurd.
Citizens of Western countries are being forced to accept Sharia blasphemy restrictions forbidding criticism of Islam. Such criticism subjects the critic to bullying and thuggery, and to accusations of “racism,” “Islamophobia,” being “far right” and “extremist” and the like. Even academic institutions have lost their way and are failing miserably in their duty to nurture intellectual inquiry and debate among the young.
“Calgary university cancels event by ex-Muslim, citing sensitivity after New Zealand attacks,” by Tristin Hopper, National Post, March 21, 2019:
Citing the recent anti-Muslim attacks in New Zealand, a Calgary university suddenly cancelled an event by Armin Navabi, an Iranian-Canadian atheist activist who was scheduled to deliver a talk critical of Islam.
“I’ve been deplatformed again,” wrote Navabi in a Wednesday tweet.
The event, scheduled for Thursday afternoon, was entitled The Case Against Islamic Reform. Hosted as part of a speaker series organized by the Atheist Society of Calgary, it was to be held at Mount Royal University.
Only two days before the talk, however, a representative from the school informed the society that they were being denied space.
“In light of the shooting last week and the responses to the event we have received from students and staff, we are going to have to cancel hosting your event with Armin on campus on Thursday,” reads an email from the school’s interfaith coordinator since posted to social media.
The Atheist Society of Calgary has since said the cancellation was akin to acceding to the wishes of the New Zealand gunman.
“(Atheist Society of Calgary) feels that to cancel this event communicates to terrorists, in general, that these tactics will accomplish their objectives,” they wrote in an online post notifying attendees of the cancellation.
Mount Royal University justified the cancellation by saying that the Friday murder of 50 Muslims in two Christchurch, New Zealand, mosques “has had a large impact on many members in our community.”
“We made this decision in light of that impact and we would absolutely have the speaker come to our campus at another time,” they wrote in a statement sent to CBC Calgary.
Navabi is the founder of Atheist Republic, an online news and information site designed to provide support to “non-believers around the world.” He is also a co-host of the podcast Secular Jihadists along with fellow Canadian ex-Muslim Ali Rizvi and is the author of the 2014 book Why There Is No God.
Born in Iran after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Navabi grew up deeply ingrained in the Islamic faith. He has said his path away from religion started at age 12, when he jumped out a window in the belief that if he died as a child he would be guaranteed access to heaven.
As a speaker and activist, he supports the abandonment of all religion, Islam included, and has criticized attempts to reform the faith from the inside. “The only way to reform Islam is to abandon Islam,” he wrote in a 2017 tweet…..

Universities will use any excuse to cancel hosting an event that criticize Islam. I am waiting for any of these universities to cancel talks by Muslims because of the 34472 Islamic terror attacks since 9/11.

It is hard to come to any conclusion other than, whatever lip service they might give to the “tragedies”, these people no longer care about victims of Islam-inspired violence. They have literally become non-persons to them, their deaths no more meaningful than an embarrassing misadventure. Navabi, being an atheist, would be low on the totem pole of regrets in any case because, don’t you know, he “doesn’t believe in anything”. Putting his life on the line to voice criticism of a murderous cult counts for little in that context.

Max has zeroed in on the CRAVEN REASONING of these boards of directors … caving in because of FEAR of ISLAMIC TERROR ATTACKS at their campuses.
This is called THE HECKLER’S VETO. A US judge described the HECKLER’S VETO in the following words:
– “A heckler’s veto is an IMPERMISSIBLE content-based RESTRICTION on speech where the speech is prohibited due to an ANTICIPATED DISORDERLY or VIOLENT reaction of the audience.” – Justice Dolores Sloviter
The ‘heckler’s veto’ is nothing but VIGILANTE LAW or the LYNCH LAW imposed by a MOB. No group attempting to administer a self-made law which vetoes the freedom of expression of others enshrined in the constitution should be tolerated. The heckler’s veto is a crime against the majesty of the law of the constitution which is the supreme, dominant authority controlling the conduct of everyone, however exalted or high his power or sincere their supremacist belief.
The heckler’s veto is an attempt to overthrow free speech which is the law of the land, and in its place to set up mob law, lynch law, and to substitute lawlessness for the law enforcement which obtains in civilized countries.

It is also called “democracy” …. where an “apparent” majority forces the action of everyone else …… which is PRECISELY why these united States of America are a Constitutional Republic and why any ‘elected official’ who references this nation as a ‘democracy’ has proven that they have no business occupying their “Office”.
Wellington says
America is both a republic and a democracy, though a representative democracy, not a pure democracy as was the case, for example, with ancient Athens. And should you think America is not a representative democracy (as well as a republic) I would like to know which countries you think are representative democracies.
Actually, it is really the case that America is the most democratic nation on earth considering that we have over 80,000 different government entities, from the federal government to state governments to counties (parishes in Louisiana) to cities, boroughs, towns, townships, etc. Pennsylvania alone has over 2,500 municipalities. You really can’t get more democratic than America which, once again, is also a republic.
Stunning how so many people keep getting this wrong and assert that America is a republic but not a democracy. It is both.

moslim screams and attacks a church, concert, shop, airport, etc.
A big kibosh is put on all speech critical of moslims and islam for “fear” of a “backlash” against other moslims.
moslim screams and stabs several people, or drives car into crowd, killing and maiming. The big kibosh again to prevent backlash.
moslim gangs rape thousands of little girls, and the kibosh is applied again to prevent the ‘phobia.’
Someone….identified by some authorities as a White nationalist…attacks moslim spaces.
A big kibosh on speaking about what moslims preach, do, think, whom they hate or what islam teaches is applied everywhere. And the “rape-her-not-me scarves” are commanded to be worn in “solidarity” with moslims. Speeches about islam are cancelled. Demands are made to stop talking about islam.
“Sounds of Silence” comes to mind.
When will the world demand that the hate speech by moslims against Jews and Christians be stopped? Never, because as Jesus said to His disciples, “The world hated me and will hate you also.”

Why does this school have an “interfaith coordinator”? What is his or her name and salary? (The National Post report does not say.) What does an interfaith coordinator do? Can’t Doukhobors and Scientologists coordinate between themselves? Why is a Mount Royal University employee required?
The “in light of” explanation doesn’t make much sense. A shooting occurred and students and staff had an undescribed response. Of what relevance is this to the scheduled event? The unnamed interfaith coordinator did not explain. Are these students and staff threatening violence against the speaker? Whose fault is that?

Disgusting capitulation by a Canadian university to Islamic Sharia Law. NOW would be the BEST time in which to discuss and debate Islam. The murder of 51 people is ALWAYS a horrific tragedy, just as the murder of thousands of Christians around the world in Islamic Muslim majority countries by Islamic terror groups should be a topic to be discussed.
Burying our heads in the sand and showing that we only care about the deaths of Muslims is NOT the best way to deal with terrorism and murder. Discussing the issues in an open, honest and productive forum is what is needed and universities were once the places where such debate was welcomed.
Apparently not any more in this age of Islamaphobia and micro aggression claims and a culture of fear of Sharia in Canadian universities’ faculty.
Alec Rawls says
Hand in glove with the mass murderer. Non-violent criticism (free speech) is the basis of western civilization’s democratic alternative to war. The mass murder breaks the non-violent half of this social compact and our political left responds by breaking the free speech/criticism half of the social compact. Both are existential enemies, fundamentally in bed with each other.

What an ingenious idea for an ideology of conquest. Calli it a religion. That will immunize the ideology from most criticism. Then divide the ideology into two parts. One part carries out terrorist attacks on innocent people. The other part is ostensibly peaceful and warns that any criticism of the ideology coukd result in more terrorist attacks. The ideology has many enablers. Even people who believe they are opposing this vile ideology enable it by giving it the protection afforded to a religion.

The question to be asked here is that if this is a bad time for a critic of Islam to discuss his thesis, when will it be an appropriate time?

I don’t know if you are religious or not, but I see Revelation 12 in this, as satan is angry and kmows how very short is his time to destroy mankind, using islam. He’s working overtime and the politicians must too.

Armin Navabi had nothing to do with the shooting, and the idea that any criticism of Islam will somehow incite violence is absurd.”
Actually, REFUSING to allow criticism of islam SHOULD incite (legal) violence, and here’s how and why:
Pretending that the global crime-gang called islam is a “race” of poor swarthy animal-people, oppressed by the mentally superior whites, in order to slander everyone who notices it’s a crime-gang as a hatefully bigoted “racist” – is to deliberately enable that crime-gang’s crimes by hiding and destroying the evidence of same, and thus to be a willing accessory to those crimes. Since islam is a murder-gang, and the penalty for committing and enabling the commission of murder is DEATH, anyone and everyone who calls an opponent of muslims, islam, and their global jihad, a “racist!” should be lawfully put to death.
Everyone who defends islam and muslims endorses crime.
Endorsing crime IS a crime, so those doing it are criminals.
