China is allied with Pakistan, which is a state sponsor of jihad terror. Pakistan has also often “depended on China to protect it from the listing of Pakistan-based terrorist groups and individuals in the UN 1267 sanctions committee.” A Veteran US Army Colonel warned in December that “Americans need to recognize that Pakistan is not a friend of the United States, but a staunch ally of China.” Meanwhile, China is violating the human rights of its Muslim Uighurs, claiming to be doing so in order to protect its country from Islamization.
And the UN aids and abets the global jihad with its blatant favoritism toward the Palestinian jihadist regime, as well as its close ties with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The UN also named Iran (of all countries) as part of its commission on women’s rights.
“UNSC may seek other possible action if China continues blocking Azhar listing as global terrorist: diplomat,” by Sriram Lakshman, The Hindu, March 14, 2019:
China on Tuesday placed a technical hold on the listing request for Azhar at the UNSC 1267 Sanctions Committee.
Outraged by China blocking for the fourth time a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) move to designate Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad’s (JeM) leader Masood Azhar a global terrorist, Council members have warned that they “may be forced to pursue other actions” if Beijing continued with this policy.
China on Tuesday placed a technical hold on the listing request for Azhar at the UNSC 1267 Sanctions Committee.
There is an “undeniable” case for listing Azhar as a global terrorist, according to a Security Council diplomat, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
“Pakistan has quite often depended on China to protect it from the listing of Pakistan-based terrorist groups and individuals in the UN 1267 sanctions committee. The case for designating Masood Azhar – the leader of a group the UN already calls an Al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist organisation – is undeniable,” the diplomat said via an email statement.
Fourth time China has placed a hold on the listing
“This is the fourth time that China has placed a hold on this listing. China should not prevent the Committee from doing the job the Security Council has entrusted it to do. China’s move to hold the listing is inconsistent with its own stated goals of combatting terrorism and furthering regional stability in South Asia. If China is serious about these goals, it should not protect terrorists from Pakistan or any other country from being held accountable to the Council,” the statement said.
The diplomat also warned of other possible action at the UNSC should China continue to block Azhar’s designation.
“ If China continues to block this designation, responsible member states may be forced to pursue other actions at the Security Council. It shouldn’t have to come to that,” he said……

Kepha says
Dear Brother Christianblood:
We’re not supporting the Islamists. We are standing for our own right of dissent, and that politics should be an open discussion and freely entered-on compact.
Also, some of the East Turkistan separatists maintain that the small Uyghur Christian community should enjoy rights, too.
Further, Sharki Turkistan is Chinese colonial territory. Its titular ethnic group does not descend from the ancient Hua Xia culture of the Central Plain, but is made up of Turks who stayed home. It was occupied and abandoned at various times in the past by different Chinese regimes. For nine centuries between the decline of the Tang and the Qing conquest of the Dzungar Khanate, it was separate from any Chinese state. Even under the Mongols, it became the patrimony of Chagatai rather than of Khubilai. It never rested easily with the CHinese Empire, and had to be pacified again by Zuo Zongtang in the 1860’s. It was always on the verge of separating during the weak Chinese Republic.
Your beloved Russians, whether Tsarist or Soviet, were well aware that it was Chinese colonial territory, and plotted to separate and annex it for themselves, as they had the rest of Turkistan. This ended, when Stalin, seeing that Mao Zedong was determined to be his 乖乖小孩, decided to let Mao have his Xinjiang, and arranged for most of the leadership of the East Turkistan Republic to die in a plane crash in 1949. But the Soviets tried again when, seeing that Mao broke with them over de-Stalinization (which tells you much about what Chinese Communism always has been), in fomenting the Ili Rebellion in the 1950’s.
I do not love Islam–just as I do not love Buddhism, Daoism, Marxism, or any other religion that has blinded people to Christ. Yet, even if I am an unabashed pork-eater (and general carnivore), if my neighbor (whether professing Christ or not) has dietary scruples, I will side with him against an overbearing, pretentious, self-idolizing state that forces him to violate his conscience. The Chinese Communists did just this in forcing Muslim farmers to raise pigs (even with Chinese-speaking ones in places like Yunnan, whose political orientation had hitherto been Chinese patriotism, even to the point of seeing the war against Japan as a jihad). Then, with invincible Marxist-Leninist-Mao Zedong Thought logic, they declared that China was anti-colonialist, and that any who opposed Communism were imperialist reactionaries or their running dogs. While doing this, they told the Turki people (it was Stalin who decided they were heirs of the 8th century Uighur Khanate in what would later become Mongolia) that all of Xinjiang, rather than just the Tarim Basin and parts of the North Road was their national patrimony.
When I was in China during the 1990’s, the sense I got was that the Turki people did not conclude that they were economically better off under a growing, economically reforming China, but, with the independence of the former Soviet “stans”, Big Brother (in all his Orwellian viciousness) was indeed mortal. Can you blame them for reconsidering traditions they had before, in good Rouuseauan fashion, they were compelled to be “free”? Given their history, can you blame them for rebelling? Believe me, as a former US consular officer, the USA has nothing to do with supporting or encouraging East Turkistan’s rebellion. In the wake of 9/11, we were all too happy to accommodate Chinese government desires and brand the East Turkistan Islamic Movement (which is not the only separatist group out there) as “terrorist”.
Knowing something about the Chinese Communist regime, and no longer having to speak for the US government 25/8 (not 24/7), I remain of the mind that China’s problems with East Turkistan could not happen to a nicer regime.

Many blessings to you!

Kepha says
@Crusader and Graven: Glad to see that someone else here likes Taiwan. I spent a good many years teaching English there, and started my family there. I firmly believe that Taiwan deserves international recognition, whether it sees itself as the rump of Dr. Sun’s Chinese Republic founded in 1911, a whole new entity called Taiwan, Great Liuqiu, Dong Ning, or even Charlie.
Unfortunately, seeing how our liberal politics of guilt and pity puffed an unabashedly Stalinist Communist government as the “legitimate” government of all China, I believe that Taiwan is doomed, unless either that regime collapses under its own internal contradictions or the USA is prepared to get into a possibly nuclear tiff with Beijing. Chinese politics have always been, “I live, you die” (我活你死). I am sure that if there are any Chinese Communists who have seriously studied the history of North America, they are utterly bewildered at how the USA can so easily coexist with those counter-revolutionary, reactionary running dogs of English imperialism up in Canada–especially when the USA has them so greatly outnumbered, and knows on its own how to manage the arctic and subarctic [Dear Canadian neighbors: I am facetiously mimicking the Chinese Communists’ own rhetoric; I am by no means a Fifty-four-forty or fight fanatic).
Communist China has made it clear that Taiwan must be incorporated into the PRC, by force if necessary. This is as sacred to every Chinese Communist as the Austrian Anschluss was to Hitler. Since Taiwan shows no indication that it wishes to be a putrid Communist system’s last conquest (although, unless Brooklyn Boynie’s kids somehow grow up and our whole educational establishment is reformed, the USA will probably have that dubious distinction), a violent showdown over Taiwan is inevitable. In such a thing, Taiwan will probably go under, although possibly only after doing a lot of damage to Mainland China; although it might end up an Israeli independence-style surprise forcing all to recognize Taiwan as eminently viable–which Beijing would very richly deserve.
Count on it. The Chinese Communist Party loves civil war much more than it loves a reasonable and practical compromised which might benefit all.

Kepha, Taiwan is *much* morally superior to Communism. I hope Communist China never gets their dirty hands on Taiwan..
There should be no “reunification” unless mainland China is free.
Kepha says
@Crusader. I’m old enough to remember watching the US step-by-step abandonment of Taiwan.
As a history teacher, I am struck by the ominous parallels between the rise of Chinese nationalism in the twentieth century and German nationalism in the 19th. China’s disintegration between the Taiping Rebellion and the Second Sino-Japanese War (which merged into WWII) created great resentments against the powers that had beaten up, invaded, and all but partitioned China during the century of humiliation. As a result, the struggle over China was between two groups of extremely militaristic, jackboot nationalists. How similar this was to Germany, rankled over the rough treatment it received at Napoleon’s hands, ends up under the militaristic Hohenzollern state; then, after the humiliation of World War I, descended into totalitarianism. Both bought very deeply into a kind of “blood and soil” (and indelible at that) mythology as well.
Communist China burns with fury that Taiwan, wrested from Qing Dynasty China by the Japanese in 1895, remains terra irredentia, Chinese earth uncontrolled by the Communist regime. This regime further believes its own rhetoric of a “US-occupied” Taiwan form 1950 to the 1970’s; failing to recall their own martial Ye’s defeat on Jinmen in 1949 by Chiang’s “bitter-enders” (and some Taiwanese conscripts, including some uncles-in-law). It is all the worse that a number of Taiwanese compare what they know of both the Communist regime and Chiang’s White Terror and speak well of the Japanese (whose nastinesses among Taiwans Han majority were pretty well finished by 1907).
Once, when eating in a restaurant in Taiwan, I heard some local guys at the next table talking about how Taiwan should take a Taipei American School hostage, but the students and staff somewhere safe and keep them fed and healthy, and then surrender as soon as the US Navy appears: “Then they’ll be stuck with us.” This was clearly said facetiously. However, had some Mainland Communist official heard this, he’d probably rise in a paroxysm of fury, screaming at the joking friends that they were Han Traitors who deserved to die, while those men at the other table probably would, in such a situation, tell him that he was a turtle’s egg, and should go s—w his old mother. I have also met younger Taiwanese saying they would be perfectly happy to make Mainland China bleed badly should they attack.
And, on the Mainland, I knew someone from their Foreign Affairs Office who could not fathom that an American of German descent would have no warm spot for Hitler and be proud of uncles who served under Ike (the Chinese have no idea that Eisenhower is just German for “iron cutter”); or, if that German-American might happen to be Jewish, why the slaughter of a small town’s worth of his father’s relatives wasn’t a small sacrifice to be made to unify and build up the whole nation. It did not bother the official Chinese press to openly speak of former Ambassador Locke (a Chinese-descended Washington State politician) as a banana. I so wished to tell that FAO operative that if China wasn’t careful, they’d find themselves under an American military government headed by a general surnamed Huang or Zhao, but I bit my tongue.
These are reasons why I am at present pessimistic about the not-too-distant future in Sinitic Asia. And, as someone who has read Kong Zi, Lao Zi, and Tang poetry in the original language and having a deep appreciation for much in the Sinosphere’s civilization, I weep, even as I pray for the conversion of that regions multitudes to Christ.

Kepha says
Dear Brother Christianblood:
Not pro-Islamist propaganda. Back in the 1990’s, I had conversations in Chinese and read Chinese-language materials on this problem. And, as a former official of the US State Department, I can easily assure you that China doesn’t need the US to agitate and tick off its Muslim populations, whether Hui, Turki (aka “Uighur”), Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Salar, or Dongxiang or Utsat. Indeed, the US offers no aid, support, training, or whatever to the East Turkistan separatists. And if there are Hui who have studied in the USA and have developed some appreciation for our First Amendment and would like to see something like it back home, that is just fallout from who we Americans happen to be.
You probably have some appreciation for Paul of Tarsus (Hayios Paflos!). Be not deceived, God is not mocked a man sows, that he will also reap. 不要自欺,上帝是轻慢不得的。人种的是什么,收的也是什么。(Gal. 6:7). Communist China long screamed that it was the great anti-colonialist champion; and also told the Turki people that the whole of Xinjiang was their “Autonomous” region. So, maybe it’s China’s turn to suffer a bit of anti-colonialist agitation.
BTW, Beijing has been having problems with all of the religions that claim to be Abrahamic. They’re now cracking down hard on unregistered Christian meetings; and back in the 1990’s, they’d jail hundreds whenever in some province more 18-year-olds applied for baptism rather than Communist Party membership (infant baptism is illegal: it’s “forcing someone to believe in religion”). Even the Jews–a few hundred people in Kaifeng in contact with Westerners and Israelis to re-appropriate their ancestors’ traditions and a couple dozen old foreign Communists in China going frum in their old age–caused ominous intra-party whisperings about what happened to the Soviet Union after “those people” got uppity.
I’m not saying that everything America does is good and pure. I pray and weep over what Illinois, New York, and other states have passed regarding moment-of-birth-abortion and the Democrats’ attacks on the free exercise clause in order to accommodate the admirers of Sodom and Gomorrah. But the US has not been aiding and abetting the rise of East Turkistan militancy. That’s China’s own chicken coming home to roost.
The biggest mistake any US administration (or concerned citizen) can make is that the rest of the world is mere clay in our hands, or “historyless peoples” who’d have no movements or ferment among them except when “we” (the US alone or the West as a whole) get involved.
Last of all, as a former US government employee (State Department), I only wish that the CIA had 0.0000001% of the powers attributed to it by both Hollywood (spinner of fantasies and follies) and anti-American foreigners credit it with having!
Best regards,
Kepha

Frankly, I fault Poppy Bush–as well as Dhimmi Carter and Tricky Dick. After that nasty little man named Deng showed us the real, unashamed face of Chinese Communism on June 4, 1989, he refrained from imposing sanctions of the kind we regularly slapped on the Soviets. This was probably because Old Bush felt obligated to the Chinese Communist regime for some late Cold War tweaking of the Soviet Bear. However, I am sure that Beijing’s attempt to punish Hanoi in 1978 was, in its own eyes, a matter of “now it’s time to divide up the spoils, now that the capitalist imperialists are finally defeated,” I believe this because the Chinese Communists were as surprised and shocked by the sudden Soviet collapse in 1991 as anyone.

Substitute “Russia” for “China” and christianblood has said this many times–that appeasing Islam is just fine so long as unfree nations do it.
And with China it is not just their protecting Pakistani Jihadists–they also exempted Muslims from the “One Child Policy” and allowed them to carry knives when Han Chinese were barred from doing so. Lots of appeasement of Muslims.

Well said, Gravenimage. However, it was only the Turki (aka “Uyghur”) who got the permission to carry knives. Hui and other Muslim minorities don’t have it. Apparently, a knife was supposedly part of a male Turki’s national costume.
Further, exemption of Muslims from the One Child Policy was officially extended to all minority groups, including to Zhuang, Manzhou, Mongols, Tibetans, Yi Miao, and dozens you probably haven’t heard of. But this exemption was paper only. In many places, officials tried to push the one child policy on non-Han peoples. Further, in others, Han people sucessfully resisted it, sometimes by the murder and actual butchery of public health officials who got too zealous about it. Frankly, I admit that part of me was proud to be related to those southern Chinese country folk.
Nor are China’s Muslims monolithic. Turki and Hui tend to hate each other–although the latter have produced their own dissidents seeking wider religious freedom within the political context of the Chinese state. I have taken to using “Turki” because it was Stalin who decided that the sedentary Muslim Turks of Eastern Turkistan were the heirs of the Tang-era Uighur Khanate. rather than a small, historically Lama Buddhist group in the Gansu Corridor called Yellow Uighur/Sarig Yoghur,
And, yes, if the USA is going to sanction China over what it is doing to the Turki in their home soil of Eastern Turkistan, it is indeed because we believe in human rights.
As a Christian myself (old-style Reformed/Presbyterian rather than Eastern Orthodox), I note that democracy and rights talk can be abused. However, one of our revered names, Samuel Rutherford, wrote back in 1644 that unlimited power is too great a burden for any mortal shoulders.
