Indeed it is. John Walker Lindh has not reformed while in prison — how could he have done so, when prison officials wouldn’t have dared challenge the Islamic beliefs that led him to join the Taliban in the first place, and in fact did a great deal to encourage them? He should have been tried for treason. And now he is a supporter of the Islamic State (ISIS). He should not be released.
“Daughter of American man killed after speaking with John Walker Lindh calls his early release ‘a slap in the face,'” by Hollie McKay, Fox News, March 23, 2019 (thanks to Creeping Sharia):
It was a text message that, for 26-year-old Alison Spann, ripped open old wounds of mourning.
“My grandfather wrote that he needed to talk to me about news of an early release of John Walker Lindh,” Spann told Fox News on Friday, two days after that dread message ping. “It floored me. This man sat in front of my father and let him be killed. The fact that he is now able to get out early is unacceptable. It feels like such a slap in the face.”
Alison was just nine years old when her father, Johnny “Mike” Spann, a U.S Marine turned CIA paramilitary operative, became the first American to be killed in combat in Afghanistan, amid the aftermath of the September 11 attacks.
In November 2001, U.S forces learned that an American – Lindh – was among the cluster of Taliban fighters left in limbo after their leader surrendered to the Northern Alliance in the northern Afghanistan province of Mazar-i-Sharif. Spann was first into the compound, serving as a prison, to interview Lindh, peppering him with questions about where he was from and what he was doing. But Lindh refused to respond.
“In those moments, when he chose to stay silent, he sealed his fate as a traitor to the United States,” Spann said. “At any point, he could have warned him that something was being planned.”
Hours later, Lindh’s fellow detainees erupted in a violent revolt that left Mike Spann dead.
According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), Lindh – who is currently behind bars in Terra Haute, Indiana – will be discharged on May 23, several years in advance of his initial 20-year jail sentence. The initial charges leveled against the then 20-year-old Lindh in 2002 included one for murder conspiracy for the part he played in the killing of Americans, including Spann, in the prison rebellion.
However, nine of the ten counts in the indictment were dropped and he ended up pleading guilty to disobeying an executive order outlawing support to the Taliban and for possessing a weapon in Afghanistan.
It is not apparent why Lindh, now 38, has been made eligible for a premature release, and the BOP did not immediately respond to a comment request. Yet his sentencing reports indicated that “good behavior” could serve as justification.
“I was so young when it all happened, but I knew there was a man named John Walker Lindh, who was an American and had been at the prison when my father had been killed,” Spann said. “I saw his image on television, but my family tried to shield me from too many details. As I got older, I started to ask questions and understand what happened.”
In Spann’s view, 20 years was a “measly” sentence to begin with, but the notion of that being reduced is heartbreaking….

Sad … Robert Spencer can’t take a break because jihad doesn’t take a break …
Ashley says
I agree, Ewanda. Not only cant take a break, but Robert requires 24/7 protection, cannot travel to the UK, had been poisoned in Iceland, was a target for murder in Garland, condemned as director of JW by the SPLC, the recipient of death threats, etc…
Why? Because Robert exposes the ideology of Islam on several media platforms. And he champions for free speech. He kinda has an issue with beheadings, honor killings, barbaric responses to homosexuality, FGM, acts of jihad, sharia, the symbolism of the hijab, etc…
In short, Robert has an issue with the Qur’an.
As do the majority of us…
CRUSADER says
Read this, from Wikipedia:
Spann was killed during a riot at the Qala-i-Jangi compound near Mazar-i-Sharif in northern Afghanistan according to CNN reporter Robert Young Pelton.[5] Earlier that day, he and David Tyson, another SAD officer, questioned John Walker Lindh, an American citizen, and other prisoners.
Officials recovered his body after Afghan Northern Alliance troops, backed by U.S. air strikes, US Army Special Forces and British Special Boat Service members, quelled the uprising.
Some sources say that he fought with his AK-47 until it ran out of ammunition, then drew his pistol until it, too, emptied, then resorted to hand-to-hand combat before finally being overcome.[6] In a news report by Time published shortly after the events reports, it is stated that Spann fought only with his pistol, killing three attackers before being overwhelmed by the more numerous prisoners. His colleague, Dave “Dawson” Tyson, an Uzbek-language specialist, opened fire with the AK-47 before running away.
Time reported shortly after the events:
According to members of a German television crew who were later trapped in the fort with Dave, Spann asked the prisoners who they were and why they joined the Taliban. They massed around him. ‘Why are you here?’ Spann asked one. ‘To kill you,’ came the reply as the man lunged at Spann’s neck. Spann drew his pistol and shot the man dead. Dave shot another, then grabbed an AK-47 from an Alliance guard and opened fire. According to eyewitness accounts given to the German team, the Taliban fighters launched themselves at Spann, scrabbling at his flesh with their hands, kicking and beating him. Spann killed seven more with his pistol before he disappeared under the crush.[7]

As Robert Said..he should have been tried for treason. Agree but he should have Bern tried by a military tribunal then smartly executed by a firing squad.

Mark Spahn (West Seneca, NY) says
Imagine all the good will that will be generated in the Islamic world if John Walker Lindh’s punishment is made sharia-compatible. Fortunately, there is a way. Quran 5:33 reads, “Indeed, the penalty for those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive upon earth [to cause] corruption is none but that they be killed or crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from opposite sides or that they be exiled from the land. That is for them a disgrace in this world; and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment.” This double-amputation punishment is consistent with the double-jeopardy protection of the Fifth Amendment, which reads,”… nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb). To be compliant both with sharia and the U.S. constitution, John Walker Lindh should have have his right hand and left foot (or vice versa) lopped off. Muslims worldwide will rejoice at this compromise, which is compatible with both the constitution and sharia law, and which will make American Muslims realize that they are originalist loss-of-limb constitutionalists.
gravenimage says
Mark, under Islam John Walker Lindh would not have his limbs amputated–he would be lauded as a hero. Surely you know that Muslims are not punished for waging Jihad against the Infidels?
Ashley says
John Walker Lindh should never be released.
I hope that Johnny “Mike” Spann’s family never reads this piece of trash:

Quite sickening. His father “trusted him to make the right decisions” but when he ‘decided’ to join terrorists, his father said this was “misplaced idealism.” Contradictions like those occur when one is making up excuses.
Ashley says
You know, somehistory, I think John’s parents played a BIG role in the lenient sentence and early release date. An internet search will expose that John’s father, Frank Lindh, made numerous media appearances.
Here is an example. Cue to 2:25 where Frank starts his horseshit. Mind you…it is long and tedious (over an hour…so make sure to pop some popcorn and tote a barf bag).
https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=frank+lindh+youtube&view=detail&mid=A16BF69D38D239C083DBA16BF69D38D239C083DB&FORM=VIRE
There are many, many more such videos of Frank demanding the release of his son. You know, “John was a good, inquisitive lad and the DOJ did my son bad.”

I have no doubt you are correct in your assessment. It was difficult just reading the article; I don’t believe I could listen to the drivel from the father.
He claims his son is “innocent” because a “plea bargain” was made and most of the charges were dropped that accused him of terrorism.
What is true is that more than 90% of criminal cases in the U.S. are handled through plea bargaining. The Courts are so overwhelmed with cases, the prosecutors like to get as many off the docket as possible without going to trial and to see that the accused serves some time. It is also a tactic when witnesses are unavailable for some reason or evidence has been lost, so the jury might not find the defendant guilty. It certainly doesn’t mean that the government thinks the accused is “innocent.”
If the prosecutor has not done so, he/she should write to those giving early release and say he should be kept locked up. If the Spann family members have not written to the BOP, they should. They should give every reason they can think of for him to be kept behind bars.
And, just in case any read this, or someone can alert them, they should use ***colored*** paper, make the letter stand out from those typed on white paper printed from a computer.
Perhaps it isn’t too late to reach someone who can put a hold on his release.
Ashley says
Oh, somehistory. I would not recommend viewing Frank’s video on the heels of reading his tome on how virtuous John REALLY is.
I suggest bookmarking the video for a future time when you are slightly high on substance of choice. You will be treated to slide projections of baby John and all his adolescent achievements. How he couldn’t harm a fly. What a quiet, introspective and intelligent child John was…inquisitive, imaginative. A remarkably sensitive soul.
But if and when you decide to view the video…have a puke bucket beside you.
Be well, friend.

Haha. The only thing that makes me “high” is good news or being with loved ones. Kind of like JD’s “Rocky Mountain High” song.
I have seen photos of people like T. Bundy, described much like you say lindt is by his father; and though I can feel sympathy for the child, I find no redeeming qualities in those people who leave innocence behind to engage in things such as murder. So, I think I’ll just take your word for the barfability of his father and his childhood.
But, I have no doubt that each one will reap as he has sown. Now or later.
And, you too, stay safe and well, Ashley .

Never could stand John Denver…I was and remain a Velvet Underground fan.
That said, I recently attended my uncle’s funeral service. Had no idea that “Annie’s Song” was THE song my aunt and uncle claimed as “their” song.
Always thought the song sappy, but I couldn’t hold back the tears hearing it in the church service a few weeks ago at my uncle’s service…the guitarist/singer was incredible.
For you, friend:

Fine exchange, Somehistory and Ashley.
And John Walker Lindh grew up one county over from where I live in the San Francisco bay area, and his parents still live there. It is a beautiful area, but a lot of the people there are so hippy dippy that their brains have completely fallen out.
This is probably where Lindh will wind up–with San Francisco and Oakland and the Golden Gate Bridge nearby in case he wants to take up waging Jihad again. An all too ‘target rich’ environment for this thug.

Thanks, Ashley, that’s sweet and kind. i really like Annie’s Song.
Condolences on the loss of your uncle.

Thank you, g.
Many times when a criminal is released early, they are sent to the place from where they came and the PO is assigned to them there. You are likely right in this. He probably has requested to ‘go home’ and his family has probably assured the authorities that he has a lot of support there to stay out of trouble.
He and his father know all of the “landmarks” that make good soft targets.
His father saying he was “always moslim” is very suspicious to me. No Christian thinks this way and is happy about it.
Ashley says
Yeah…I, too, worry where John is heading to upon release.
I think Ireland is in the cards. Not sure, but I think the US intends to give John the boot as a condition of his release.

Graven…I think John has sights to relocate to Ireland upon his release. Not sure if Scotland Yard or Interpol intends to track his activity upon being sprung…
But you indeed have a problem. Frank Lindh is a dangerous man, and he resides close to your locale. Frank defends his son on international platforms, and that gravely (no pun intended) concerns me. Frank essentially fawned that John embraced Islam…BIG RED FLAG.
I suggest you follow this absurd tale closely. Something is amiss….

Yes, his father is an ugly piece of work, as well:

At first I thought dear old dad was just a clueless hippy, and then I realized that he was something much worse.
I remember how shocked I was when the story first broke about an American Taliban. I was even more horrified when I realized that this thug grew up just a few miles away.
Of course in the years since we have seen more of these disgusting traitors.

WOW, Graven! Thanks for that link to that Debbie Schlussel article. I know you and I could care less about Frank’s sexual orientation but deranged Daddy is definitely supporting his demented, dangerous son.

So the father presents a danger to CA residents, visitors and tourists, and if allowed to leave for Ireland, the son presents a danger to residents and tourists there. I suspect that wherever they go or live, innocent people will be in danger from these two.
The father sounds very much like a psychopath, blaming everyone for his son’s evils and not accepting any on his own part. Psychopaths are always a danger and those in islam are doubly so.
Ashley says
Your going to need something a little stronger than good news or Rocky Mountain High for this, somehistory.

This is a despicable decision. Most likely, the results will be as many others have been, and he will return to acts of terrorism. Those released from Gitmo went right back to planning and executing terror acts. Those people dedicated to living a criminal life will not reform while locked away and commit new, sometimes worse, crimes when released. Esp those psychopathic individuals.
