UPDATE: This is not a post about the fire at Notre Dame. I scheduled this post hours ago, long before I knew of the fire. The story below comes from AFP; the fact that the target of the foiled jihad plot is now burning is coincidental.
—–
It would be “Islamophobic” not to admire Ines Madani’s wild romantic heart. After all, what says “love” more than blood spattered everywhere and broken bodies writhing in pain?
“France jails ‘jihadist’ woman (22) accused over foiled terror attack in Paris,” AFP, April 12, 2019 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):
ONE OF THREE women allegedly involved in a foiled plot in 2016 to blow up a car packed with gas canisters near the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris was today sentenced to eight years in prison by a French court for earlier offences.
Ines Madani, 22, was sentenced following a three-day trial during which she was accused of encouraging would-be jihadists to go to Syria and participate in attacks against France between March 2015 and June 2016….
Judge Isabelle Prevost-Desprez said that Madani was “recruited” by Oumar Diaw, also known as Abou Barrou, an influential jihadist of the Islamic State group.
She used different pseudonyms on social networks, pretending for example to be Abu Souleymane, a jihadist returned from Raqa to carry out attacks in France….
Madani’s lawyer, Laurent Pasquet-Marinacce, said her client, aged 18 at the time, was “a girl in search of recognition and love”….
Madani’s trial for trying to set fire to the car filled with six gas cylinders near Notre Dame will begin on 23 September.

The Notre Dame cathedral is BURNING THIS MOMENT . Coïncidence ?

Being reported here in the USA as a construction fire. Who is on the construction crew???
kasch Mir says
You bet! Good question, but I doubt we’ll get the answer any soon…
Can you imagine that this monument that survived countless revolutions and wars, including nazi occupation, should now be in flame in 2019?!
gravenimage says
It should definitely be investigated–but at this point it looks like a tragic accident.
andra says
Some time ago they also talked about a construction fire when the roof of the Cathedrale of Reims was burning. I guess they would have said the same about the Twin Towers, if the world had not seen the planes.
Notre Dame can not be saved, they just said on German sites.
Andrea says
What a coincidence, Notre Dame is burning right now
James says
The dhimmi crybabies on FBook are getting up because this poster suggested that the fire at Notre Dame Cathedral may have been started by the Muzz. Apparently that must not be suggested.
“Co-incidence ?” I doubt it !

I just suggested that on the Guardian’s Facebook page and my FB account was immediately disabled…forever!!!
Hugh Fitzgerald says
You must make as big a fuss as you can about Facebook as Big Brother. This is intolerable.
roger standen says
What can I do? They simply disabled the account without even informing me why. This is happening to other people I know on that platform. And there is no recourse, no way of appealing.
They just open new accounts, which is easily done. And so it goes on.
J_not_a says
Faceplant blows. No loss. Need to start using other platforms. They ARE NOT too big to fail. I’ve never been active on it and I’ve survived just fine.

“I just suggested that on the Guardian’s Facebook page and my FB account was immediately disabled…forever!!!”
Very sorry to hear that 🙁 – it is very obvious that certain ideas, however mildly and unfanatically expressed, are utterly haram. And that only criticism-free comments about the adorable, wonderful, flawless, perfect, uncriticisable religion of murder, rape, arson, polygamy, slavery, trafficking in human flesh, necrophilia, fornication, gluttony, and other such world-enriching delights, are allowed.
I’ll probably be permabanned too – I’ve already been in Fbook Gaol for 30 days, twice,
Nazis = ultimate manifestation of all evil
Sand-Nazis = never to be so much as suspected of any evil-doing, because that is racist, fascist, imperialist, sexist, whitist, Trumpist, MAGAist, and totally and always wrong.
Liberalism really is a mental disease.

Emilie Green says
This is a major fire. A large section of the roof is ablaze. Pictures are posted at news sites.
Muslims continue to teach the French lessons about Islam. And still the French won’t learn.
James says
Islamic violence against churches: https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/14044/europe-churches-vandalized
ISTM entirely reasonable and not remotely unfair to entertain the possibility that Muslims may have been responsible for the fire at Notre-Dame. If it should emerge that no Muslim played any part in it, well and good and so much the better. But until and unless that is made clear, such a supposition is entirely reasonable and in no way unfair.
Rufolino says
Quite so, James, but the French Authorities will certainly reject suggestions of arson and Islamic involvement as too explosive.
SB says
The Notre-dame cathedral is on fire. I’m positive it was a wheel-chair bound Presbyterian grandmother that started the fire.
Niemoller says
Of course it is jihad terror behind the burning of Notre Dame. It’s like asking if a Jew in the Warsaw ghetto in 1944 was murdered by Nazis or just tripped and died. Islamists have created an global environment of terror and evil. Their ideology is a toxic pollution spread by its criminal believers acting as toxic pollution vectors.
gravenimage says
At this point the fire seems to have been started by construction work.
Rufolino says
Every single construction worker on the site must be thoroughly investigated.
Kasch Mir says
Some “construction” work, indeed, that ends up in destruction! I wish the official media would tell us exactly who caused the fire by doing what precisely – I still don’t believe in the self-ignition of age-old cathedrals
gravenimage says
The construction work was for renovations. There has been renovation work at cathedrals before. Your implication that this does not exist is mistaken.
Crusades Were Right says
I’m watching this venerable church burn on TV as I type – the main spire has now collapsed. Regardless of who or what was the cause, I suspect this is a taste of the future for Europe’s – and Christendom’s – cultural heritage.

somehistory says
The plotter in the earlier foiled attack…sentenced to prison…and then three days later…it is set on fire….hard to think it just happened…or would have just happened…without moslim assistance.
And a poster said this attack on Notre Dame was to be expected from moslim terrorists, because they have been attacking churches in France.
StacyGirl says
During Holy Week, no less. I’m glad I took 200 photos when I went. The decline of civilization before our eyes. Any guesses if it will be rebuilt as a mosque?
somehistory says
StacyGirl
If the moslims have their way. One of the news guys suggested that, as it was burning, it could be terrorism like the other attacks in Paris.
James says
I wonder whether he will be allowed to keep his job 🙁 ? It’s good to have support for the terrorism theory.
Ashley says
I really can’t believe this!
Sure…I suppose it could have started by an accident, but the timing???
And if there was construction going on, why weren’t precautions taken to protect the priceless art?
J_not_a says
You would think the art would be relocated to a protected place while work went on . Complete no brainer. How stupid are these cretins in charge of this project?
J_not_a says
You would automatically think the art would be relocated to a safe protected space while the work was going on. A complete no brainer. Who were the absolute cretins in charge of this project?
gravenimage says
Moving art is also dangerous. Often it is safer remaining in situ. Not this time, though.
I wrote a paper about the art in Notre Dame as an undergraduate. This is terribly painful.

Built between 1163 and 1245. And will be finished within hours. Certainly horrific to observe. Some on the news are claiming it might have been caused by the “reconstruction’ that has been taking place on the church.
James says
“Reconstruction” allah-style, presumably 🙁 IOW, burn away the works of the infidels, and build mosques in place of them.
Walter Sieruk says
Some of the information reported on this article is “ONE OF THREE women allegedly involved in a foiled plot in 2016 to blow up a car packed with gas canisters near the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris was today sentenced to eight years in prison by a French court for earlier offences…”
Thus a reiteration of the following essay is very appropriate because it fits in ,so well, with this above quote.
One very good way to describe this twenty –first century “War of Ideas” is that of a great a conflict and a clash between Christianity and Islam. As explained by the Christian author, William Wagner,, in his book which is entitled HOW ISLAM PLANS TO CHANGE THE WORLD had explained on page 155 about a meeting that he had with a Muslim cleric , which reads “Several years ago one Imam told me that ,prior to 1990, the greatest enemy to Islam was Communism but now it is the Christian missions.” Further, on page 208 the Wagner had written about some zealous Muslims that “They have failed to stop Christian missions. They see Christian missions as their number one enemy.” On the very next page the reader is informed that “Christianity remains the number one buffer against Islam, a fact readily recognized by those who seek a world wild ummah.” [1]
[1] Ummah – The community of all those who affirm Islam.
Alarmed Pig Farmer says
The spire has toppled from the cathedral. It seems sure now that it will burn to the ground. What a coincidence between this criminal case and the apparent construction accident. Paris will no longer have Notre Dame, unimaginable. Say, on a related subject, I wonder how that pro-Jihad institute is going over at the college in South Bend.
PRCS says
So, to borrow from that British program:
The Big Question:
If it was jihad, will that FINALLY be enough to stop giving Islam a pass?
Carolyne says
If it was Jihad, the public will never be told. No matter the truth, it will have been from the ongoing construction.
Rufolino says
Absolutely Caroline. The French Government will see it as imperative that in no way will Islam be linked with this catastrophe. It would be explosive.
awake says
It will be difficult to establish the actual physical cause of the blaze here due to the degree of destruction, but in light of the recent spate of desecration of French Churches by the denizens of the RoP, one would logically assume that this was another intentional act of jihad.
somehistory says
awake
Even in the worst of fires, good investigators can find any kind of “fire starter” or accelerant that may have been used. There are always traces where arson is to blame.
gravenimage says
True, Somehistory.
Rufolino says
Very interesting point. Thanks.
eduardo odraude says
The destruction of the Notre Dame Cathedral is surely not an accident. We’ll see. The cathedral of Notre Dame is one of the greatest symbols and artistic creations of Western civilization. Not sure what its destruction could be compared to. This is no small event. It will be interesting to see how France interprets this. Probably too much to hope the French will read it as an omen of their own utter destruction if they do not change course.
eduardo odraude says
The cathedral is over 800 years old. How did this happen? How was our generation less equipped to prevent it burning down than the last 25 generations? Is this the kind of thing that happened with the centuries-old Bamiyan Buddhas in Afghanistan? With countless Hindu temples in India? With countless churches in the Islamic world? Is Notre Dame’s cathedral part of the arson wave in France? Will the authorities even tell us if it is? Will we be told it was an accident even if it was not? Governments often prioritize security over every other interest (such as telling the public the truth).
Seb's Music says
For the time being, they can’t get at the Vatican so they hit the next best thing, which is the most popular tourist attraction in France and probably the second most important Christian (Catholic) cathedral in Europe, if not in the world. In today’s political and cultural climate in Europe and more specifically in Paris, it would be unwise for the French authority to even suggest that unwelcome guests of a totally different culture in France could be responsible for such a travesty. Nevertheless the coincidence is much too obvious since they are determined to destroy Christianity and all of its symbols and history. That’s what they do. A thousand years of history that took 100 years to build. Only barbarians would want to destroy such a treasure.
eduardo odraude says
“TIME columnist Christopher J. Hale tweeted, ‘A Jesuit friend in Paris who works in #NotreDame told me cathedral staff said the fire was intentionally set.’ ”

Ecosse1314 says
Have an awful feeling that even if followers of the ROP were responsible we will hear nothing about it. Will be covered up completely by the MSM.
James says
FWIW, this is what happened to my suggestion on FBook that the Muzz might be behind the fire today:
“ADMIN NOTE: we accept no hate speech or religious bigotry in this group. I have deleted those comments that propagated it”.
So, kissing Mo’s arse is totally OK; having the audacity to suspect Muslims of destroying (yet) a(nother) church, is utterly forbidden.
Muslims have carte blanche to do as they will – even to suspect them is intolerable.
Ecosse1314 says
Totally agree.
Crusades Were Right says
It survived the Wars of Religion, the Napoleonic Wars, the Franco-Prussian War, the 1st World War, Adolf Hitler – but couldn’t make it through Macron’s stint!
Crusades Were Right says
Forgot to mention the French Revolution…
…or is that yet to happen, I wonder?
Rufolino says
Nobody has mentioned that Notre Dame was the setting for Napoleon’s Coronation as Emperor in December, 1805 (see the painting by JL David, Louvre), a seminal European event.
For the Coronation, the Cathedral’s gothic interior was disguised by painted stage-scenery in the classical style. Despite the crowded church, despite thousands of candles and the extensive inflammable canvas scenery, there was no fire.
Trouble says
Given how many Christian churches have been vandalised in France recently the probability of yet another racist/hate crime against infidels is overwhelming. Attacks on people, religious symbols, religious places and cemeteries have been growing over five years, all around the continent of Europe.
Not adequately reported and downplayed through fear of reprisals, not to frighten the natives or unsuited to global agenda.
Macron is finished if proven to be a terrorist act so the truth will never be known. If the truth doesn’t come he’s finished anyway.
So then-Observe the results of censorship of any comment or criticism of Islam, on social media, or anywhere else. By doing so has only emboldened them and made France and others less safe with their culture gradually diminished to non existence.
Notre- Dame destroyed during Easter week.

France: Muslim girl “in search of love” plotted to blow up car packed with gas canisters near Notre Dame cathedral
……………………
Isn’t this what everyone in search of love does? Uh…maybe not so much…
God, I hate Islam.

This could give a whole new slant on the Romantic Movie genre. For example, an islamic remake of ‘Brief Encounter – Celia Johnson (in a hijab) turns up at the station cafeteria for her romantic rendezvous, dragging a trolley loaded with TNT. “Why have you brought that with you, darling?” enquires her illicit doctor lover earnestly, as he savours his halal bacon sandwich. “I just wanted to feel the earth move”, she replies wistfully into camera (in soft focus), as a celestial string orchestra of 72 virgins plays in the background.
No, I don’t think that would ever be likely to break box records, do you? It would certainly have made a mess of the station. Was that french lawyer actually being serious when he tried that story on at the girl’s trial?
CRUSADER says
We may never fully be told what occurred….
Fil J. Cosentino says
The plot worked. Why keep it quiet? This is what happens when you bring in the enemy into your home.
Marigold says
It seems reasonable to me to suspect that the fire in Notre Dame cathedral in Paris is more than a co incidence after this threat and during Holy Week too and not too long after the Christ Church mosque massacre! However ,we may as well resign ourselves to never finding out how the fire started because if it did have anything to do with Islam the French government would keep it secret because it would not want the scapegoating of their large Muslim population as the French can be very militant when fired up.We have only got to look at the green vest demonstrations in recent months and in historical terms the French Revolution is not too distant.
Recent world history is replete with examples of what happens when minorities are made scapegoats.I am thinking in particular of Nazi Germany and the scapegoating of Jews which led to the Holocaust. There has of course been more recent examples. The Rohingars for instance which received a lot of media attention because of current PC attitudes and of course the ISIS persecution of Christians in the Middle East which in contrast received hardly any.
However it happened it is a terrible tragedy not just for Christians but for everyone who appreciates architechture and history.I have been there twice as a Christian pilgrim and am more glad than ever that I saw it in its original state because it won’t be the same when it is rebuilt.
There is also an irony in its destruction because France was once known as the big sister of the Catholic church but like many Irish many French people have fallen way from their faith so the fire could be seen as a symbol of God’s wrath.Maybe it will cause many French to turn back to their Catholic faith. Let’s hope so and if it does this tragedy won’t have been in vain.
Trouble says
The attempted destruction of Notre- Dame could also have been politically motivated with Frances recent alliances in Lybia and allied world war 1 commemorations- of Gallipoli and Easter. Enter here….. the usual suspects…… Vive Le Notre- Dame!
gravenimage says
This plot was 2016.

May well be a resurection from 2016. Does the “Emmanuel Bell” that miraculously survived ring a bell???.
Debi Brand says
“The story … [above] comes from AFP; the fact that the target of the foiled jihad plot is now burning is coincidental.”
Well, of course it is “coincidental,” “Robbie” — the structure has not been aflame for over 800 years, but, now, as fire grows ever, shall I shall, intractable, in fact, down right, seemingly, autonomous and bull-headedly so at that, thus, as they say, the “stuff,” it just happens …
Well of course it does…
As you so rightly stated, “Robbie,” no need to mar such a “beautiful” love story – Love [not to mention hate] only for the Cause of “Allah” – with wild categorically “unfounded” hallucinations, it would appear, of the weak-minded Islamiphobies ..
Thus, “For the Cause,” as you stated — love for that cause — who could “ ‘not … admire Ines Madani’s wild romantic heart. After all, what says ‘love’ more than blood spattered everywhere and broken bodies writhing in pain?’”
