Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Hugh Fitzgerald: Pope Francis and King Mohammed Make an “Appeal for Jerusalem” (Part One)

Apr 16, 2019 10:00 am By Hugh Fitzgerald

On his return from a recent trip to Morocco, Pope Francis was well pleased with his encounter with his Muslim “brothers and sisters.” He seemed especially pleased with the appeal he and King Mohammed VI issued together, stating to reporters that “For example, the joint appeal for Jerusalem was a step forward made not by an authority of Morocco and an authority of the Vatican, but by believing brothers who suffer seeing this City of hope: that is not yet as universal as we all desire it to be: Jews, Muslims and Christians. We all want this. And this is why we have signed this desire: it is a desire, a call to religious fraternity that is symbolized in this city that is all ours. We are all citizens of Jerusalem, all believers.”

Before returning to that historically questionable statement about Jerusalem, let’s go back a bit and recall other remarks by Pope Francis. Pope Francis has said many false things about Islam. He has said that “there is no such thing as Islamic terrorism” and that “authentic Islam and the proper reading of the Quran are opposed to every form of violence.” He has, in turn, been praised by the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed al-Tayeb, who thanked him for his “defense of Islam against the accusation of violence and terrorism.”

Pope Francis has even obliquely justified the murders of the Charlie Hebdo cartoonists who had drawn Muhammad, saying that “it is true that you must not react violently, but although we are good friends if [an aide] says a curse word against my mother, he can expect a punch, it’s normal. You can’t make a toy out of the religions of others. These people provoke and then (something can happen).” So the murder of a dozen helpless cartoonists is compared to a punch. There is something out of whack in this Pope’s moral calculus.

When asked by a journalist about whether the 85-year-old priest who was decapitated while saying Mass was “killed in the name of Islam,” Francis replied:

“I don’t like to speak of Islamic violence, because every day, when I browse the newspapers, I see violence, here in Italy… this one who has murdered his girlfriend, another who has murdered the mother-in-law… and these are baptized Catholics! There are violent Catholics! If I speak of Islamic violence, I must speak of Catholic violence . . . and no, not all Muslims are violent, not all Catholics are violent. It is like a fruit salad; there’s everything.”

The Pope thinks that because some Catholics commit murder for purely personal reasons, this constitutes “Catholic violence.” It does not. It is violence by Catholics, not committed in the name of, and not in any way because of, their Catholic faith. “Islamic violence” against Infidels, on the other hand, is inculcated in the texts — Qur’an and Hadith — of Islam.

The Pope has said that “in pretty much every religion there is always a small group of fundamentalists. Fundamentalists. We [Catholics] have them.” These fundamentalists rely on their scriptures. But mainstream Muslims are all “fundamentalists” and what their Scriptures, the Qur’an and Hadith, tell them is quite different from what Christian “fundamentalists” find in their Bible. Christians find messages about mercy, charity, love, forgiveness. If a few Christians are violent, it is despite what the Bible tells them. Muslim “fundamentalists” — that is, mainstream Muslims — are violent not in spite of, but because of what they find in the Qur’an. For there they find more than 100 verses commanding Believers to engage in violent Jihad against non-Muslims, to “fight” and to “kill” them, to “smite at their necks,” to “strike terror” in the hearts of the Unbelievers. Given the Pope’s claim that “authentic Islam” has nothing to do with violence, one would like to know if the Pope has read the Qur’an. Is it possible he has not done so, despite being so willing to make authoritative pronouncements about Islam? Or has he read the Qur’an, and not understood, or chosen to ignore, what he read? Or is he, as many have begun to suspect, when it comes to anything having to do with Islam, hopelessly idiotic?

The Pope has met the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar University, Ahmed al-Tayeb, twice — in Rome and in the United Arab Emirates, calling him “a friend and dear brother.” He has publicly thanked the sheik for having “the courage and desire to affirm that faith in God unites and does not divide, draws together even in differences (and) moves away from hostility and aversion.” Does the Pope know how many terrorists have studied at Al-Azhar and were deeply affected by the Islamic education they received there while Al-Tayeb, his “friend and dear brother,” was the theological school’s president? Did anyone at the Vatican think to tell the Pope about Al-Tayeb’s views on Jews, quite full of “hostility and aversion,” such as in this revealing interview on Egyptian television in 2013?

Interviewer: They [the Jews] consider everybody else to be inferior to them…

Ahmad Al-Tayeb: Extremely inferior. They even have very peculiar laws. For instance, they are allowed to practice usury with non-Jews. Some things are not allowed among Jews, but are allowed between Jews and non-Jews. They practice a terrible hierarchy, and they are not ashamed to admit it, because it is written in the Torah – with regard to killing, enslavement, and so on [of non-Jews].

Therefore, they have generated a problem not only in their relations with the Muslims, but in their relations with all other people as well, and history has been clear on this.

Interviewer: There is even great enmity between them and the Christians.

Ahmad Al-Tayeb: Of course. These practices and beliefs have made people, even non-Muslims, hate them.

And the Pope’s advisers could have found more in that vein, simply by googling “Ahmed el-Tayeb” and “Jews.” Pope Francis ought now to be fully informed about his “friend and dear brother,” so that he may realize just how wrong he was in his fulsome endorsements of El-Tayeb, and say nothing more about the Grand Imam. Or does antisemitism not bother this Pope?

Preparing for his trip to the United Arab Emirates, the Pope delivered a video message to the people of the U.A.E.: “Al Salamu Alaikum,” Arabic for “peace be with you,” Pope Francis said at the beginning of his message.

“I am happy that in a few days I will be able to visit your country, a land that strives to be a model of coexistence, human brotherhood and encounter among different civilizations and cultures where many find a secure place to work and live freely in respect for diversity,” Pope Francis said.

What “model of coexistence” and “respect for diversity” is to be found in the U.A.E.? U.A.E. natives constitute 20 percent of the population, while foreign workers and other expatriates account for the other 80 percent. At least one million of those foreign workers are Catholics. Fewer than two dozen churches have been allowed in the U.A.E., to serve between one and two  million Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox Christians. There is one tiny temple for half-a-million Hindus. Is that handful of churches and a single Hindu temple “respect for diversity”? Non-Muslims are forbidden from trying to proselytize; Muslims, however, are free to try to convert non-Muslims. Non-Muslims must not pray, or make any other display of their faith, in public. Compared to Saudi Arabia, the U.A.E. is an oasis of religious freedom. Non-Muslims have houses of worship, albeit very few, where they can conduct services undisturbed. In Saudi Arabia, on the other hand, a handful of Korean nurses softly singing Christmas carols in their shared living quarters, behind closed doors, led to their immediate expulsion from the Kingdom.

The U.A.E. is not, pace Pope Francis, a “model of coexistence” and “human brotherhood.” Millions of foreign workers, especially non-Muslims, are relentlessly exploited; working conditions for manual laborers have been described as harrowing; domestic workers routinely have 14-hour days. Still, it’s not quite as bad as in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Non-Muslims have to watch what they post, and what they  say. A Christian singer made a video in which she innocently pointed toward a mosque with her left hand, having no idea of the significance of the left hand in Arab culture; she was arrested for showing disrespect for Islam. Others have been hauled into court for derogatory remarks they supposedly made about Islam and Muhammad on Facebook; even getting into an argument about foreign policy can lead to such charges, and when it’s a non-Muslim’s word against that of a Muslim, in a Muslim country, we know who wins.

There is one place in the Middle East where there is full freedom of worship for adherents of all religions, in that respect a “model of coexistence.” That country is Israel. Pope Francis visited there in May 2014. He was greeted warmly by the Israelis at Ben Gurion Airport, just before going off to visit — even before Israel proper — the “Palestinian” Authority. In between scheduled engagements, the Pope ordered his motorcade to make an unexpected stop in Bethlehem. He got out of his popemobile and made his way to a particular section of Israel’s security wall. This is an often-photographed section of the wall covered with graffiti that compare Palestinian Bethlehem to the Jewish Warsaw ghetto. Near a spot where someone had very recently sprayed “Free Palestine,” the Pope touched the wall and began to pray. Of course, a dozen video and still cameras were capturing that moment. He must have known that the videos and still photographs taken of him at that very spot, with those pro- “Palestinian” graffiti, would go all over the world, helping to promote the Palestinian cause. The Pope’s effusiveness is saved for the likes of Ahmed el-Tayeb, and the “human brotherhood” and “model of coexistence” he claims to have found in the U.A.E.

If you are a Catholic, he is your Pope. You don’t elect popes and so you don’t get to choose. Pray for him or leave the club because you are apparently unhappy with the leadership. I disagree with everything he says about islam and about politics in general, but he still is my Pope because I am RC.

Now that you mention it Anne, yes, he is. Francis is in violation of John 14:6:

“Pray for him or leave the club”

        ***WOW!***

        Is it YOUR club??

So Catholics who REJECT the Heresy and Apostasy and the lies coming from this false pope Bergoglio must leave!Who says? You?

You haven’t the faintest clue have you?

I see you missed ALL the warnings from Catholic prophecies like Fatima 1917,Akita,St Francis Prophecy etc

I see you missed the Apostasy and Heresy coming from Rome, the Novus Ordo{!!}mass and the false liturgy introduced..Bergoglio’s PROMOTION of pedos….his SUBVERSION of christianity by equating allah with God.Unbelievable!!!

There IS actually a question mark over the validity of this “pope” and his election and there are Cardinals who know about this.

        “Pray for him”

LOL;I suggest YOU pray that 1)you overcome your blindness and 2)get some oil for your lamp. And good luck finding an actual Mass rather than a Novus Ordo(!!) mass.

Pope John Paul II was a proper pope:not you beloved Bergoglio. And much of what existed before the error of vatican 2 ,was THROWN out so that what constitutes catholicism today is a pale shadow of the catholic faith that once was .

        “I am RC”:you must mean.. under Remote Control..because you have NO IDEA what is going on in Catholicism.If you love your pope so much,this jesuit heretic,this judas pope then please go to Rome and kiss and sniff his feet.Suchpapal idolatry is disgraceful{My family BTW are all devout catholics and are DISGUSTED by Bergoglio:should they leave so that papal-worshipping idolaters like yourself can feel you qualify as catholics?}

You prove the Truth of the statement “There are none so blind as those who refuse to see”

You REFUSE to see!In fact if you really were an authentic Catholic ,not only would you KNOW this but you would not follow the deception taking place in Rome.
So,go to Rome, get down on your knees and kiss your beloved pope’s feet..

          @RichardL

          No.

There is only ONE Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church.

He may be nominally a “pope” but your wilful ignorance of established Catholic prophecy, your failure to understand the concept of Heresy, is simply astonishing.

A “pope” that preaches HERESY is not an authentic pope.Catholics are not obliged to follow falsehood:surely a proper catholic would know that!!

Logic does not appear to be your Forte.where did I say there were two Churches??
I never said there were two churches.

I am happy to defend Authentic Catholicism from Theologically ignorant papal idolators
          like yourself.

          Go research :-

          Filial Correction 2017

francis accused of HERESY…how can you claim to be catholic and NOT KNOW THAT?

Astonishing!!No doubt you think you have bought the ticket to Heaven..I thought muslims were ignorant about God..but catholics who claim to be catholics who don’t know anything about Catholicism, catholic Prophecy or what is going in Rome are WORSE.

It’s not necessary to go through the Pope to see the Father. As long as Francis does not exercise his authority to speak “ex cathedra,” I see no sin in disagreeing with him on some of his opinions … but, yes, he is still the Pope and in charge of tending to the affairs of the Church …. for a while. Of the things that last forever, love may be the greatest but hope is still one of the top three. Never give up.

          2)Filial Correction 2017{formal charge of Heresy}

          He ignored the complaints….TWICE!

It is quite unprecedented for a pontiff to be condemned by the Cardinals:his leadership of the Church is so bad that he should resign. And he was caught out lying in the mccarrick case.A pontiff that promotes Heresy cannot be a true pope….but yes,he is head of the church..for a while…

“And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.”
        Revelation 18; 4

God does divide. He divides us from the world, from sin, from false religion, from false doctrine, and from false unity. We must be separate and holy to God. All you need is the Bible and God; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. If one is in rebellion against God’s Word, which is above all words, one is in rebellion against God. When faced with that fork in the road, always go with God’s truth. You can’t have both, unity with God and membership in an apostate church. The true church is not in any of these denominations, but by being born again of the Holy Spirit by your freewill and consent when you chose and decided and knew what you were doing. God has called us to come out of these apostate denominations and that began a long time ago. The ‘original’ church began at Pentecost, the RCC began with Constantine and he changed so much towards paganism and hierarchy and tyrannical control. Don’t be fooled.

The Pope does not get it because he obviously, has never read the Qur’an/Hadiths. Sure there are violent Catholics but their Bible does not instruct them to be. Qur’an Instructs. He sounds like people say because he is Muslim does not make him more violent than a Catholic & he thinks its like saying being Hispanic makes you more violent than a Chinese. THE point is that the Qur’an Instructs people to be anti Jew because they are cursed by Allah and no longer have anything to do with Abraham. That Only Islam is qualified to claim Abraham and all his history and sites. Why Hasn’t He Read the Qur’an? Shouldn’t a Pope be required to read it? (not what other say about it but first hand reading and using his own mind)

You can get along with Muslims only if you avoid any comment that implies that Islam may not be 1) perfect 2) complete and 3) eternal.

Once you agree that nothing is wrong with Islam, Muslims will ‘tolerate’ you. If you imply in any way that Islam is not 1) perfect 2) complete and 3) eternal, the mullahs will make a fatwa and the terrorists will hunt you down since you are a designated blasphemer to be executed.

    Francis doesn’t get it. He’s a Pollyanna.

His relationship with Muslim leaders is based on both sides telling comforting lies.

I would imagine Pope Benedict could certainly confirm this after he was forced to resign! As a practicing Catholic, I can no longer give money to the church as long as he is the Pope. So those of you who miss the Old Catholic Church, try the Church of England. Ronan Williams was an idiot who became initiated as a Druid, but Latin services are held in the Anglican Church although Latin was not Christ’s native language. Christ spoke Aramaic. Perhaps God speaks Latin.

Although I do assume the Pope has been baptized and is my brother, I must admonish him to pay closer attention to the job he was elected to do … which is to bring the word of Christ to the entire world and to baptize the people of all nations in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

So, it’s all the fault of “fundamentalists”. For me, the “fundamentals” are a group of doctrines concerning the person and work of Jesus Christ and the nature of the Old and New Testaments that have long been held by Protestant Christians. I hold them ( along with a bunch of others spelled out in the Westminster Standards and Three Forms of Unity), and if you show me a Muslim who holds them, I’ll show you a candidate for Christian baptism who probably needs protection from his own family. I guess the Pope uses this swear word because Protestant fundamentalists have been poaching his sheep for a few centuries now.

Whether the re-establishment of a Jewish polity in ‘Eretz Yisroel and its stewardship of Jerusalem is a harbinger of the Second Advent, I do not know. One reading of Rom. 11 makes this a possibility. Frankly, I’m of the mind that King Jesus is already ruling from heaven, has been doing so since his resurrection and ascension back in 29 or 30 A.D., and the big event to come is the resurrection of the dead and final judgment; and that the focus of God’s plan for the ages is the community gathered about Jesus the Messiah, not in the land between the Jordan and the Med. I am pro-Israel chiefly on political and natural law grounds, and see its conflict with the Arabs as just another example of the “nation rising against nation” of which Jesus warned us in the Olivet Discourse (Mt. 24-25).

I pray for the peace of Jerusalem, including the conversion to the Messiah of all of its inhabitants. Sure, Jesus didn’t come, ransom his elect, and defeat death itself simply to establish one religion equal to all others. But his book tells me that it’s to be spread by preaching, prayer, and discipleship, and that our warfare is spiritual rather than by sword, spear, or machine gun. I think Pope Francis ought to recognize this before he engages in irresponsible media blather.

Christ is the fulfillment, and Christ is God incarnate, and Christ will come again.

So, worshipping Christ is not idolatry, far from it. Worshiping the Godhead is what it all means.

      Bless you.

I notice that the seven Noahide Laws do not include both of the commandments which Jesus said are the two greatest. This then leads me to think that perhaps when the Pope used the word “brother” he should have used the word “neighbor.”

That is a tiny number of people. Heck, the city I live in has three times more people than that. PMSL

If pope Francis really feels that “two state solution” is a good idea he has exposed himself to actually be an very ignorant man, in both tether terms of the reality of things and of the Bible. This is because a “two state solution” not really a “solution” but an Islamic ploy of deception , a smokescreen and hoax and a fraud.

As those recent Hamas rocketed attacks in to Israel from Gaza reveals that even the idea of some people of dividing Jerusalem as well as other parts of the State of Israel between the Jewish people of the Muslim/ Arabs is nothing but folly. To engage the madness of such “talks” is a hoax and a farce .This is because in the so called “negotiations” between the heads of the Jewish nation of Israel and the leaders of the “Palestinians” the Muslim /Arabs the “Palestinian” leaders will speak the truth only when in happens to fit their agenda. The rest of the time the will be speaking half-truths and outright lies. For their goal is to obtain all of the land of the State of Israel ,.Even in it takes much time and it means getting the land piece by piece. So those “peace talks” are a hoax. For the “Palestinian”leaders are employing what is the Islamic doctrine of Taqiyya . Which is the Islamic dogma that lying and deception are good things to do as long as it’s done for the cause of the advancement of Islam. The insidious scheme is part of the stealth jihad .Otherwise known as “Islamic Gradualism.” This sly and something subtle strategy of disingenuous speech, lying deception of achieving the goal of all the land of Israel a war ploy that will be a disaster if the heads of the State of Israel are foolish enough to agree to divide the land of Israel with Muslim /Arabs ,the “Palestinians.” For if such a “peace dialogue” results in a divided land, the outcome will literally be murder. For “Palestinian” leader will allow the jihadists use that land as a base to launch murderous rocked attacks in to Israel. As for example, Hamas of Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Such false hopes for peace which are based on the foundation of lies are nothing new when it comes to Israel . For example, the Bible in Psalm 55:20, 21. Reads “Such men do violence to those at peace with them and break their promised word; their speech is smoother the butter but their thoughts are of war.” [N.E.B.]

When the Pope states, “it is true that you must not react violently, but although we are good friends if [an aide] says a curse word against my mother, he can expect a punch, it’s normal. You can’t make a toy out of the religions of others. These people provoke and then (something can happen).” it reminds me of Ilhan Omar’s statement about September 11, 2001 being just something done by somebody. It also seems this wolf masquerading as a Christian is trying to tear down what is left of Christianity in Europe particularly as he has not uttered one word of condemnation regarding the desecration and arson of Christian churches, cemeteries, Synagogues throughout Europe. Why does he not “punch” his Christian hating muslim friends in the nose in a similar manner as the “punch” in the nose that the peaceful muslims perpetrated at the Charlie Hebdo work shop?

Also, to state that the imported work force in the UAE is an example of moderate is laughable as many of those working there are forced to provide organs for the UAE’s transplant industry and many, especially from Sri Lanka, have been killed and their bodies shipped back home.

given the way in which the “lavender mafia” manipulates the hierarchy of the catholic church (see https://web.archive.org/web/20180829144831/https://epiphanytampa.weebly.com/), the pope is either an oblivious fool or a breathtakingly evil man. the church keeps records, starting in seminary, for each priest, in which the priest must confess all sins, whether they are known to others or not – including all criminal acts. this is done in order for the “spiritual director” of the priest to help him overcome fears, weaknesses, and sins; furthermore, these records *never* go away. they also make a dandy blackmail packet. thus, a priest who tries to expose evil in the church hierarchy is going to take a fall. i rather believe that since this person made it past all the gates in the system, all while not even bothering to care about the slaughter of fellow believers by pious muslims, he is most likely evil. if U thought the exposure of the “lavender mafia” of the church did great harm, just wait until this hard-core leftist liar is finished. all of christendom will be suffering!

The Scientologists also must confess every single sin they ever committed in order to shake off the invisible little space people clinging to then. But they call it auditing.

“We are all citizens of Jerusalem, all believers.”
    *******************************
This is one of the stupidest things I have ever read anywhere. First of all, every person “believes” something…even those who doubt or deny that there is a Divine Being Who has authority over mankind. Those believe that there is No One. Those who are not sure, believe there “may be Someone” but…

But, not all people believe one way. Certainly, Christians and Jews do not believe that the fake ‘god’ of islam is true.

I, for one, do not agree with anything the “pope” says. He, nor any pope, has authority over me to give me any directions or counsel. He may as well be a Mafia Don…or a moslim leader as far as I am concerned.

So, when he says that “all believers” are “citizens of Jerusalem”…he says something that is impossible. And Jerusalem belongs to Israel. One who is a citizen of Israel may also be a “citizen of Jerusalem”…or they may live in another city in Israel. Whatever they may “believe.”

He is making this stupid statement, a lying statement, in order to lay claim to the City of Jerusalem…for himself and his moslim friends and “brothers.” Because that is what moslims want, and because he is no friend of Israel.

I still strongly suspect this Pope-a-Dope is responsible for the Notre-Dame Cathedral “accident” – his commie practices have left no bums in the pews to pay for his priests’ high-flying jet-set lifestyles, so they may have decided to tap into all that unused insurance money potential.
