Brunei is simply implementing Sharia. Doesn’t Michelle Bachelet know that Saudi Arabia and Iran and other Sharia states put homosexuals to death and amputate hands for theft? Will the OIC condemn her “Islamophobia,” or bide its time, preferring to continue to fool Western leaders, who are so very eager to be fooled, into thinking that Sharia is entirely benign and compatible with Western values?
The Qur’an contains numerous condemnations of homosexual activity: “And Lot when he said to his people, ‘Do you commit such immorality as no one has preceded you with from among the worlds? Indeed, you approach men with desire, instead of women. Rather, you are a transgressing people.’…And We rained upon them a rain of stones. Then see how was the end of the criminals.” (Qur’an 7:80-84)
Muhammad specifies the punishment for this in a hadith: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘Whoever you find doing the action of the people of Loot, execute the one who does it and the one to whom it is done.’” (Sunan Abu Dawud 4462)
And as for amputation for theft, that punishment is in the Qur’an: “The thief, the male and the female, amputate their hands in recompense for what they committed as a deterrent from Allah” (5:38)
“UN condemn Brunei’s new ‘inhuman’ laws that will impose death by stoning for gay sex and amputations for theft,” by Dianne Apen-sadler and George Martin, Mailonline, April 1, 2019:
The United Nations has condemned Brunei’s new ‘cruel and inhuman’ laws imposing death by stoning for gay sex, and amputations for theft.
UN rights chief Michelle Bachelet said in a statement that the country should maintain its long tradition of not applying the death penalty – which it has not imposed since 1957.
‘I appeal to the government to stop the entry into force of this draconian new penal code, which would mark a serious setback for human rights protections for the people of Brunei if implemented,’ Bachelet said.
Bachelet also stressed that international law imposes very stringent restrictions on the use of the death penalty, which can only be applied for the crimes of murder and intentional killing, and only after all due process requirements have been met.
‘In reality, no judiciary in the world can claim to be mistake-free, and evidence shows that the death penalty is disproportionately applied against people who are already vulnerable, with a high risk of miscarriages of justice,’ Bachelet added.
‘I urge Brunei to maintain its de facto moratorium on the use of capital punishment.’
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights also warned that the new laws could encourage violence and discrimination on the basis of gender, sexual orientation and religious affiliation.
‘Any religion-based legislation must not violate human rights, including the rights of those belonging to the majority religion as well as of religious minorities and non-believers,’ she said.
Brunei, a Muslim-majority former British protectorate with a population of around 400,000, will implement the new Islamic laws from April 3, punishing sodomy, adultery and rape with the death penalty, and theft with amputation.
The laws, elements of which were first adopted in 2014 and which have been rolled out in phases since then, will be fully implemented from this week.
‘The (Sharia) Law, apart from criminalizing and deterring acts that are against the teachings of Islam, also aims to educate, respect and protect the legitimate rights of all individuals, society or nationality of any faiths and race,’ the prime minister’s office statement said.
Some aspects of the laws will apply to non-Muslims….

Some would say the Bible would condone amputation Matthew 5:30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.KJB. but the verse is talking about a person who cuts off his own hand or plucks out his eye (previous verse)

Cathryn – and I think that Bible statement was meant figuratively, not literally, anyway.

Killing gays is a ‘Holy Act’…How can a ‘Holy’ act be inhumane?
elee says
Duh swami………..there were people who wrestled with this question in connection with the Inquisition. They not only wrote down their thoughts but I think they argued for them with a straight face. I guess they had to, because our culture asked questions like the one above. Our culture even allowed people to assert that inhumanity was a bad thing! Islam doesn’t have this problem, because nobody gets to choose what they think about inhumanity, or anything else. Koran 81:30; 33:37. There is only “loving what (someone claims that) Allah loves and hating what Allah hates.” Everything else is kufar, unless it’s done by a Muslim, in which case it’s apostasy.

Strange, after all, as Hugh Fitzgerald wrote : “It is hard to think of an organization that has been more thoroughly infiltrated and taken over by Muslims at every level, than the United Nations”
https://www.jihadwatch.org/2009/01/fitzgerald-the-un-thoroughly-infiltrated-and-taken-over-by-muslims-at-every-level
Also as Robert Spencer says “The UN is controlled by the 57-government Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC),”
Source:https://www.jihadwatch.org/2014/07/un-calls-for-israeli-palestinian-cease-fire
This means that someone hired by and working for an organization taken over and controlled by Muslims is saying something bad about Islam.
How can that be? either the organisation is not controlled by Muslims (but that’s impossible), so that leaves one possibility: Taqqiya!

I have some questions about this too. Under Islamic law are the requirements for proving a person guilty of a homosexual act the same as those necessary to prove a person guilty of adultery, that is, four male witnesses seeing the actual act being committed? It appears that not all Islamic countries agree upon the same set of requirements … yet. And …. is mercy never allowed to be granted under Islamic law for any sin requiring the death penalty? If mercy is allowed, who is authorized to grant it?
Demsci says
Indeed it seems to me that the words “controlled” and “taken over” are exaggerations in this context.
But the UN (193 countries) IS heavily influenced by the 56 Islamic countries. But there is indeed also big, especially financial, influence of the approx. 35 Western Democratic Nations in the UN.
In Regard to Brunei and its new penal system it seems that the Islamic Nations, that is the Muslims, also are much divided with different laws. According to leftists it is due to cultural differences.
But to me this division in Islamic practice shows the ambiguous nature, internal contradiction, confusion of the Islamic core texts and its lack of common enforced single understanding. IMO Islam can be very dangerous for non-Muslims and democracy precisely because of this vagueness, Multi-interpretability of its core texts, by it’s 1,6 billion adherents. Not least because of the underestimation of this danger by the non-Muslims, also due to this vagueness of Islam.
CogitoErgoSum says
It’s not exactly what I’d call an organized religion. They really need to call some sort of council as the Christians did back in the 4th century to try to come up with some sort of agreement on what rules they should all follow. But even so splits between the Christians still persist to this day. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, that all people will agree upon when it comes to religious matters. The best you can hope for is that people will just keep their spiritual beliefs to themselves and not force them on other people. But that’s not what Islam is all about.
Demsci says
Thank you. Agreed. You and I, all of us here know that the verses, commands, laws in the core texts that literally invité to violence, conquest, oppression, suppression of women, gays, unbelievers do exist. And are taken to be still PREScriptive. By a huge number of muslims.
But we get demands from the outside world and esp.the leftists that we may never stereotype all Muslims and may never paint them all with one brush. The leftists tell US that “THE Islam does not exist”.
And it looks like they are right, if we take into account all these different interpretations of the core texts, even if some interpretations are most probably lies. One of the most important variations is that between PRESCRIPTIVE AND DESCRIPTIVE nature of the core texts.
So OK, if Islam is multi-interpreted, then it is also multi-interpretable! Therewith vague, ambiguous, contradicting, very imperfect.
But still dangerous, because of detrimental, prescriptive interpretation of large groups of Muslims.
But we don;t have to paint all Muslims with the Same brush anymore, because, yes, there are all those Muslims with other interpretations, or with weak knowledge about their own faith, but we can still see that as the fault of the core texts because of their ambiguity, unclarity, fallibility. Something which Muslims are very loath to hear.
My hope is that we can use this fallability of core texts as shown by their multi-interpretability to eventually discredit them to cause widespread contempt for them and mass apostasy.
It is the hope too of Jay Smith who works to discredit Quran and Mohammed. And who points out that Christianity also suffered great losses due to long severe bible-criticism. It obviously is the hope of Apostate Prophet and other ex-Muslims on the internet.

The horns of the old dilemma,
On one horn sits the Big Lie = Islam is a Religion of Peace, completely benign, having been helpful to all mankind for 1400 years.
On the other, the Truth on Islam.

Silly kafir woman, Islam is always in favor of human rights. It’s just that kafirs apostates Christians Jews &c &c &c aren’t human, they’re worse than beasts. It’s all so simple and straightforward, all you have to do is read the scriptures.

quran 27:48 to 27:58 also spells out the same punishment of stoning carried out against those who “approach men with desire instead of women” as told in 7:80 to 7:84.
And there were in the city nine family heads causing corruption in the land and not amending [its affairs].
They said, “Take a mutual oath by Allah that we will kill him by night, he and his family. Then we will say to his executor, ‘We did not witness the destruction of his family, and indeed, we are truthful.’ ”
And they planned a plan, and We planned a plan, while they perceived not.
Then look how was the outcome of their plan – that We destroyed them and their people, all.
So those are their houses, desolate because of the wrong they had done. Indeed in that is a sign for people who know.
And We saved those who believed and used to fear Allah.
And [mention] Lot, when he said to his people, “Do you commit immorality while you are seeing?
Do you indeed approach men with desire instead of women? Rather, you are a people behaving ignorantly.”
But the answer of his people was not except that they said, “Expel the family of Lot from your city. Indeed, they are people who keep themselves pure.”
So We saved him and his family, except for his wife; We destined her to be of those who remained behind.
And We rained upon them a rain [of stones], and evil was the rain of those who were warned.

“The Plot of the Mischief-Makers and the End of the People of Thamud
Allah tells us about the evildoers of Thamud and their leaders who used to call their people to misguidance and disbelief, and to deny Salih. Eventually they killed the she-camel and were about to kill Salih too. They plotted to let him sleep with his family at night, then they would assassinate him and tell his relatives that they knew nothing about what happened to him, and that they were telling the truth because none of them had seen anything……
