Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Sri Lanka considers burqa ban following Easter jihad bombings

Apr 24, 2019 5:17 pm By Christine Douglass-Williams

In response to the jihadist bombings in Sri Lanka, the country is now considering banning the burqa “after police found several women suspected of having aided the Easter terror attacks were wearing burqas.” Western Leftists have been too busy screaming “Islamophobia” and “racism” to notice that many countries have banned the burqa for security reasons. Aside from the fact that the burqa is an oppressive garment forced upon women in the name of Islam (cf. Quran 24:31 and 33:59), it makes good sense to  ban it in the interests of public safety.

In Chad, two Boko Haram jihad suicide bomb attacks killed 23 people in 2015, which led to the country’s Prime Minister Kalzeube Pahimi Deubet condemning the use of the burqa as “camouflage,” and ruling that all burqas on sale in markets must be burned.

So far, the burqa has been banned in China, Tajikistan, Morocco, Latvia, Cameroon, Congo-Brazzaville, Gabon, Chad, Austria, Denmark, Belgium, Netherlands, Bulgaria, and France. Algeria banned the burqa in the public sector last year.

The burqa in the name of equality between genders and for safety reasons needs to be outlawed in all Western countries.

“Sri Lanka Mulls Burqa Ban as Easter Jihad Death Toll Rises to 321,” by Frances Martel, Breitbart, April 23, 2019:

Sri Lanka may be considering joining a growing number of governments in banning the burqa, an Islamic head covering that leaves no part of a woman’s body visible, local media reported Tuesday in the aftermath of the series of suspected jihadist bombings targeting Christians on Easter Sunday.

Officials confirmed Tuesday that the death toll had risen a second time from 290 to 321 as some severely wounded died overnight and forensic specialists began identifying the dismembered remains strewn throughout three churches and three hotels in and around the nation’s capital, Colombo.

Police also told reporters Tuesday they arrested 40 individuals suspected of participating in planning and executing the attack. Law enforcement officials believe a Sri Lankan radical Islamic group, National Thowheeth Jama’ath, conducted the bombings.

Sri Lanka’s Daily Mirror cited “a highly placed government source” Tuesday indicating that President Maithripala Sirisena has begun discussing a nationwide prohibition on the Islamic clothing item after police found several women suspected of having aided the Easter terror attacks were wearing burqas, making finding and arresting them more difficult. The use of the burqa may further hinder operations to arrest individuals believed to be involved in the attacks, the source further indicated.

“The government, [the source] said, is planning to implement the move in consultation with the mosque authorities and yesterday several ministers had spoken to President Maithripala Sirisena on the matter,” the Mirror alleged, adding that the burqa and its close relative, the niqab, were “never part of the traditional attire of Muslim women in Sri Lanka until the gulf war in the early 1990s which saw extremist elements introducing the garb to Muslim women.”

The niqab, unlike the burqa, leaves the wearer’s eyes visible, but nothing else. The burqa uses a semi-transparent cloth over the eyes to allow the wearing to see but others not to be able to see into the garment.

Both coverings tend to be far less common in the Muslim world than the hijab, a headscarf that hides a woman’s hair but leaves her face exposed. The Quran requires both men and women to dress modestly, but does not specifically require Muslims to wear any of these items.

If Sri Lanka adopts such a measure, it would join a diverse coalition of nations in Asia, Africa, and Europe that have done so in the interest of preventing terrorists from using the burqa to evade police or hide explosives. Among the nations that have enacted a ban on the item are Chad, Cameroon, Gabon, Morocco, Austria, Bulgaria, Denmark, France, Belgium, and Muslim-majority western China.

Sirisena declared a state of emergency after six bombings Sunday now believed to have killed 321 people and injured over 500. Reports revealed the president “gave the military a wider berth to detain and arrest suspects,” resulting in 40 arrests at press time. As the bombing culprits are believed to be suicide bombers, those arrested are alleged members of the jihadist terror ring that helped the individuals organize the attacks.

Police fear that the six bombings Sunday did not represent the entirety of the jihadist plot. On Monday, authorities found explosives and detonators in at least two other locations – a bus stop in Colombo and a van parked near the targeted St. Anthony’s Church – believed to belong to the same individuals responsible for the attacks.

Police initially stated that all those arrested were Sri Lankan nationals and believed to be members of local terrorist group National Thowheeth Jama’ath. On Tuesday, however, India’s Hindustan Times revealed that one of the 40 arrested was a Syrian citizen. The newspaper did not offer any more details on the individual.

The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attacks, but not offered any proof of its involvement or identified the individuals responsible. The terrorist group, who recently lost all territory belonging to the “caliphate” it established in 2014, routinely take credit for jihadist acts around the world to boost its credibility in radical Islamic circles.

In addition to pressure to find and punish those responsible, Sirisena is facing mounting criticism after Indian media revealed – and rival politicians in the government confirmed – that Sri Lankan intelligence officials received international warnings that jihadists would strike its Christian minority on Easter. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, who Sirisena tried to unconstitutionally remove from office in October, told reporters Sirisena banned him and his cabinet members from attending intelligence meetings, so no one tied to Wickremesinghe was aware of the warning.

Mahinda Rajapaksa, the former president Sirisena tried to replace Wickremesinghe with, joined the prime minister in condemning Sirisena and demanding answers on the Easter warnings on Tuesday.

“The government can’t shy away from taking the responsibility. It knew about the attacks, but did not warn anyone or any church and made sure that none of the ministers or MPs attended any service,” he said in an extensive statement to parliament.

Rajapaksa is both renowned and criticized for being the president during the end of Sri Lanka’s civil war in 2009. Critics argue that he used outsized force to subdue and kill the Tamil separatist movement that had launched the war in 1983…..

Time to consider banning muslims, period. There”s not much point in simply banning the uniform if you don’t also ban the insidious slime that wears it. And obviously proscribe islam completely, which would include quarantining all muslim countries and severely restricting contact with them and their citizens. That’s the only way to deal with this 21st century reincarnation of the Black Death.

When fire in ‘Notre Dam’ museum means more to us than 900 dead and wounded Christians in Sri Lanka church attacks!!! When Google Searches for ‘Notre Dam’ museum out number attacks on Sri Lankan Christians 7:1….When billions of dollars were raised within a week to rebuild the spire of the Paris museum and zero for the 900 Christian victims in Sri Lanka jihad attacks. What does that tell you about the West, its satanic oligarchs, and its political and media establishment elites?

Another cheap shot against the West, christianblood. So typical of you.

When tragedy or evil occurs in your “backyard,” it is only human nature to mourn it far more than tragedy, even far greater tragedy, that is far away.

You seem to never miss an opportunity to denigrate the West. Meanwhile, and as I have mentioned to you twice before, the Moscow Times reported that a poll taken just last month in March showed that 70% of Russians have a positive view of Stalin, arguably the greatest mass murderer in history. Why not finally address this, christianblood? Or are you too busy saying yet again, “God bless Hezbollah?” Yeah, what say you about this poll, never mind as you have for years, touting Holy Mother Christian Russia?

You’re a hypocrite, christianblood. A rank one. Extra so. Your turn.

christianblood: The hell that is all as you claim, otherwise why would you have stated in your 7:48 P.M. post above, “What does that tell you about the West, its satanic oligarchs…”

Satanic oligarchs? Really? And you think this is not a cheap shot?

As for you not being a Russian, so what? You “carry water” for the Russians all the time and so what do YOU think of 70% of Russians having a positive view of Stalin? How do you square this with the Holy Mother Christian Russia crap you spew with regularity? How can ANY Christian have a positive view of Stalin?

You are a rank apologist for Russia and any apologist for Russia, even a more balanced person than you, should, actually must, address the 70% figure I have mentioned in this post, the one above and on other threads. Yes, how does a Christian Russia approve of Stalin by an overwhelming margin? No more dodging.

They need to ban the sharia. The burqa is a symbol of allegiance to the sharia. Secular Muslims who reject the sharia are no problem but all Western governments must make it clear we will not tolerate the sedition of sharia. Islamists who want the sharia imposed should be encouraged to leave. They have their countries and we have ours: that is how we keep the peace.

the AP is reporting 359 dead as several people died in hospitals. An earlier report on Reuters had a higher number than 40 for arrested,…60 so far and said they are still searching for those involved. One suicide bomber was female.
It is understandable that the burqa could be banned after an attack like this. No one can tell what the person in the bag looks like…whether male or female…what scars or birthmarks, color of hair, eyes, what the mouth and teeth look like…so if they terrorize and escape, no one knows for whom to look.

All a moslim would have to do is run around a corner, duck into a waiting van, and take off the bag. Most all of them look alike, so having one in the vehicle wouldn’t prove much. The cops would have to test every one of them for explosive residue.

All mosques in these areas should be closely monitored and, as happened in Austria, radical (hate) preachers should be immediately deported. There is a more subtle way. Today, the 25th of April, is ANZAC Day in Australia and in the centres of the major cities there is not a hijab to be seen. It’s a weird time-warp, as if our culture was reset to 30 or 40 years ago; but it won’t last, they’ll be back streaming through our glorious malls and shopping centres -they love shopping (what else do they have to do during the day?).
