Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

UK’s May condemns “acts of violence against churches and hotels in Sri Lanka”

Apr 21, 2019 8:33 am By Robert Spencer

The acts of violence against churches and hotels in Sri Lanka are truly appalling, and my deepest sympathies go out to all of those affected at this tragic time.

We must stand together to make sure that no one should ever have to practise their faith in fear.

— Theresa May (@theresa_may) April 21, 2019

Yes, Ms. May, this was the work of anti-hotel and anti-church building zealots.

Britain’s Prime Minister can’t name the victims — Christians — for fear of offending the Muslim communities in the UK whose votes she desperately needs. For the same reason, she most certainly cannot mention the fact that many of the victims were celebrating Easter, or name the attackers, or explain the basis upon which they chose their targets.

Theresa May epitomizes the cowardice and pusillanimity of modern Western leaders. And that is why her country, and other nations of the West, are in such a precarious state.

When that traitorous trash tweeted about NZ she couldn’t mention the word Moslem or Islam enough.

Apparently for May the real disaster is not the Christians being murdered by Moslems, but buildings being damaged by an unknown, unnamed ‘Terror group’.

This woman and her kind are a very big part of the problem. In fact, the worst part of the problem because without her type we would confront this evil and beat it back into the stone age whence it came. Normal people will not tolerate this. Yet it is forced upon us – not so much by the opportunist Muslims but by those who allow it, like Mrs. May.

The cowardice of the Western leaders is truly appalling! Muslim violence always becomes simple violence, no mention of Islam and Muslims. Lack of courage to call out Muslims for their jihadi massacres only encourages them to take it to another level!

      Understanding Islam – Daniel Pipes

The Middle East with Daniel Pipes: Chapter 1 of 5

Is Islam a religion of peace?

Daniel Pipes, a leading Islamic scholar, says yes and no.

If Islam prevails, becoming the worlds pervasive religion, the answer is yes; and since it will require war for Islam to prevail, for the time being the answer is no. But to begin to understand Islam, Pipes says it should be viewed in its several forms: traditional, radical, and modern, the last of which is only in the act of becoming.

      ================

“An excellent primer on what remains one of the most important issues of our time.” The Vorthos Forum

Daniel Pipes is the director of the Middle East Forum, a Philadelphia-based think tank. Currently the Taube/Diller distinguished fellow at the Hoover Institution, he earned a doctorate in early Islamic history from Harvard in 1978. He is the author of 12 books, including Militant Islam Reaches America and Miniatures: Views of Islamic and Middle Eastern Politics. He writes a weekly column for the Jerusalem Post.

        Apr 21, 2019 at 12:10 pm

Is it convenient for Pipes to say that Traditional Muslims would never attack a foreign remote Kafir capital (NYC/DC 9-11 for instance)? Wasn’t the notion that Constantinople and Rome were to be attacked and taken over by Muslims? Didn’t the hadith suggest that Mohamhead confirmed this?

Is it disingenuous of Pipes to be okay with Moderate Reformed (Apostate) Islam to grow and develop in order for Muslims to find a path out of their current status? Who will determine what Islam is as a belief system for that path? What to do about the perfection of the Koran? What to do with abrogation of verses? Whose version will be determined correct, and by whom, and for whom?

Can Islam really just be a marketplace of belief, pick and choose whatever you feel from it?
What sort of transcendent faith would it be if it is just suited to post-modern wants and desires?

        What say you?

        • Wellington says

          Apr 21, 2019 at 1:17 pm

Pipes knows a lot (including being fluent in Arabic) and he is a decent man (I have actually met him), but he has an enormous blind spot when it comes to Islam, specifically he truly does believe that Islam can come into the modern world and take its place along other major faiths and live in harmony with them, replete with tolerance and a Golden Rule for all on this earth. He maintains that much of Sharia (essentially the most awful stuff) is really only applicable to the seventh century or so even though no major school of Islamic theology to this day, at least that I know of, agrees with him here. Nonetheless, he persists in asserting this. Though Jewish himself, I believe he has some Muslim friends of the Zuhdi Jasser variety, that is to say Muslims who believe in a fantasy version of Islam that does not exist.

Pipes is a fine example of a good and knowledgeable person, brave too, who is wrong on one very big matter. Glaringly so. What he does not grasp is that Islam is the one major religion that is also a totalitarian ideology, as Bertrand Russell pointed out a century ago, and there is no reforming a totalitarian ideology. Might as well try to reform Nazism or Marxism as reform Islam. And just because many Muslims don’t fully implement Islam’s many nefarious tenets (e.g., death for apostasy as authorized even in the Koran, Sura 4:89) means nothing because an ideology must be gauged, must be judged, by what it says and never by the fact that many adherents of that ideology are lax or uninterested in enforcing the ideology’s tenets.

Marxism, as an example, requires the violent sweeping away of the upper and middle classes, in short it is in theory a prescription for genocide. And even though during the Cold War or even to this day many Marxists (I’m reminded most aptly of Italian and French Communists during the Cold War) didn’t or don’t want to implement this Marxist tenet, which is the class struggle theory, means nothing because the tenet is still there and for all time. And so is it the case with the many iniquitous tenets of Islam, the condoning of rape as authorized in Suras 4, 23, 33 and 70 being another example that can be placed alongside death for apostasy as demonstrative of just how putrid Islam truly is.

Very good Wellington. My heart sings every time you describe the ideology of Islam as an ideology. But since some still think of it as a religion I am surprised you haven’t described the dilemma differently. You say there is no reforming a totalitarian ideology. Why didn’t you say there is no reforming the word of God? In any event, we are ad idem on the possibility of Islam being reformed. Happy Easter.

        • Wellington says

          Apr 21, 2019 at 7:52 pm

Every religion, Terry, is an ideology, so my sometimes describing Islam as an ideology is something you read too much into.

There are secular ideologies and religious ideologies. Some secular ideologies are evil (or stupid or both), examples being Nazism, Marxism and anarchism. Some religious ideologies are evil (or stupid or both), examples being Islam, Satanism and Wiccanism.

Pretty simple here. Wish you’d finally get this.

        • gravenimage says

          Apr 21, 2019 at 11:09 pm

Terry, not every religion is the word of God–that is, not every religion is true. I believe you are well aware that Wellington does not consider Islam to be the word of God, and not just because he is Agnostic.

I have posted the definition of religion here many times–by that yardstick, Islam is indeed a religion. It is just a false and evil religion, as some few others have also been.

And religion and ideology are not mutually exclusive concepts. All religions are also ideologies (although not all ideologies are religions).

This minor disagreement aside, I would like to wish you and yours a very Happy Easter!

CRUSADER: Pipes is most definitely on the “Islamist radar” and has gotten numerous death threats because he has dared to criticize the most radical portion of the Islamic world. If you read my 1:17 P.M. post above I detail the situation with Pipes. It has nothing to do with him being a coward. In fact, far from it. I think him dead wrong on there being a good Islam lurking out there somewhere but the man is brave and was warning the Western world about the worst of the Islamic world long before 9/11.

I am certain Robert Spencer himself would back me up on what I have just written about Pipes not being afraid at all. Wrong? Yes, as I see it. Afraid? Absolutely not.

Dr. Pipes is *definitely* on the “Islamist radar”. Anyone who speaks out against Jihad, as he courageously does, is very much at risk.

He is too optimistic about the possibility of reforming Islam, but this has nothing to do with any sort of cowardice on his part.

Her, Pipes writes about death threats against those who dare challenge Islam–as well as people self-censoring out of fear:

“Admitting Censorship due to Islamist Intimidation”

          http://www.danielpipes.org/blog/2006/04/media-admits-censorship-due-to-islamist

This is *not* something Pipes himself does.

By the way, the brave and stalwart Ayaan Hirsi Ali has an almost identical blind spot–and she certainly isn’t censoring herself for Islam.
