Muslim students at Cornell already have two dedicated prayer rooms, one for men, and one for women. No other religious group appears to have received this special accommodation.
Catholics have only one.
- Anabel Taylor Hall Chapel
- Meditation Room inside Anabel Taylor Hall Chapel
- Sage Chapel
- Purcell Courtyard between Myron Taylor Hall and Anabel Taylor Hall
- Catholic students — Blessed Sacrament Chapel in 227 Anabel Taylor Hall
- Muslim students — Muslim Prayer Rooms for males in 218 Anabel Taylor Hall and for females in 219 Anabel Taylor Hall
No rooms for Jewish or Buddhist students are listed. But it’s not enough.
It’s never enough.
For the Muslim community at Cornell this year, this year’s final weeks will be more complicated than usual. For only the second time since 1989, Ramadan — a month-long holy period that requires adherents to avoid eating and drinking from sunrise to sunset — will coincide with the exam period.
This is a non-issue, as the article later admits, because students can apply for a change of schedule, and by law, they have to be granted it.
The article then pivots to its real issue. More Islamic spaces.
In addition to dining and testing, Muhamad highlighted a lack of “reflective-quiet” spaces to facilitate prayer on campus as an area for improvement.
“One of the things that I could change about the campus is to include more … space rooms on campus for Muslims to pray,” he said.
As we’ve just seen there are 6 spaces, two dedicated only to Muslims.
But it’s never enough.
CogitoErgoSum says
To make the Muslims happy Cornell would have to turn all the classrooms into prayer rooms and the chapels into classrooms.
Olli Hekkala says
No, they must stop other teachings and concentrate on Koranic studies, that will lead to enlightenment. Happy rape day west.

Need to turn Cornell into a madrassa.

It isn’t about prayer and religion. It is about privilege and legitimacy and special rights creating a hierarchy with muslims at the top above other religions. They want these to legitimate their priority above the Christians, Jews, agnostics or Hindi, Buddhists, etc. They have priority. They could rent a space off campus for their religious practices. A university is there for education not for public prayers. They want to get people accustomed to accomodating their demands. People give in to avoid being called Islamophobes or racists or anti-religious. And out of fear of reprisals. But they are like the Nazis, no appeasement is ever enough. This is our last territorial demand…
CogitoErgoSum says
I would put fear of reprisal at the top of the list.

Why do Muslims require special rooms for prayer? Why can’t they just kneel down and genuflect wherever they are when it is their prayer time?
CogitoErgoSum says
There is a certain way that Muslims are supposed to pray. A room full of desks and other things would be a problem. See this link:

Indeed…. something having to do with “impurities”….
(no wonder there’d been affinity between Nazism and Islamism)
———————————–
Here is one of the dictates:
Ensure the area is clean and free of impurities.
This includes your body, your clothes, and the place of prayer itself.
Perform Wudu. You must be ritually pure before you go start praying. If you’re not, it’s required to perform Wudu before you do. If since your last prayer, you have urinated, defecated, passed gas, bled excessively, or fallen asleep while leaning against something, you need to perform Wudu.
If you are praying in a masjid (mosque), which is highly encouraged for men, enter quietly–other fellow Muslims might still be praying and you don’t want to disturb them. Stand in a free space away from the entrance/exit.
If you are unsure of the cleanliness of your area, spread a mat or cloth on the floor for good measure. This mat (or prayer rug) is very important to Islamic culture.
===================
So, what would you do ?
Speaking of Wudu, here is something YOU can DO !!! :
https://creepingsharia.wordpress.com/what-can-i-do/
=========================================
Oh! now go and do that Wudo that you do ….

All that Wudu voodoo and OCD-like cleaning and still their islamic “prayers” cannot wash away those muslim sins.Or even guarantee any muslim salvation.
Interesting fact about Al ilah:he doesn’t permit final penitence:-
“Lo!The forgiveness is not for those who do ill-deeds until, when death attendeth upon one of them,he saith..lo! I repent now.nor yet for those who die while they are disbelievers. For such WE have prepared a painful doom for them.”
Koran 4 v 18
So muslims have to live in fear of being sent to hell by al ilah{or WE} anyway.Jews and christians, being “disbelievers” are predictably condemned:that would include Moses and Jesus then…
If muslims insist on more “prayer” rooms I think it is only fair that OTHER religions be accomodated too.
And surely Atheists and Agnostics should be allowed their own rooms.
Special rooms for muslims discriminates against Atheists!….come on Atheists, stand up for your rights!
Remember the rules…
#1 “All religions and beliefs are equal but islam is FAR MORE EQUAL than others”
#2 “people of all beliefs and none are entitled to their rights but muslims are FAR MORE ENTITLED than others”
#3 “Fair criticism of any religion or belief must be permitted
a)EXCEPT islam, as that’s “islamophobic”,”racist” and “culturally insensitive”
b)EXCEPT in a Leftard-run college environment
c)EXCEPT if it is deemed offensive to snowflakes and endangers them in their Safe Spaces.

Muslims demand, demand and demand this and that. It never ends with Muslims. I live in Australia and, over the years, I seem to recall similar stories about Muslims at university and , I think, in hospitals, demanding or being given their own prayer rooms. Then I notice the report in Jihad Watch right next to this one about the Muslim convert in the UK whingeing about there being bacon in her food. Muslims are the most whingeing, whining group of people. I guess it all comes from this supremacist idea that Muslims have that they are the best of people and thus expect all types of special treatment. No other groups, Buddhists and others, seem to demand all this special treatment all the time. Muslims seem to be nothing but trouble in endless ways ( and all other groups don’t cause such trouble and don’t have these endless demands). Muslims basically seem to be never ending whingers and a complete pain in the arse in every country, whether it be the USA, the UK, Australia or any other country. As Daniel says in the report, “It’s never enough”.
Dawne says
Yes – nothing is ever enough for Muslims. I worked in a University and we were allocated a student over the summer period to give her work experience. She was a Muslim student wearing the full garb, though with her face uncovered. There was always something. She needed time to pray. She had to go to the prayer room at the other end of the campus and so she couldn’t get there for lunchtime prayers in the lunch hour so needed extra time. She needed a special desk in the reception so male student visitors weren’t looking at her face. She had to be dropped off at work by her father and so couldn’t come for 9am. It went on and on.
The first few demands you accede to, to be helpful/observant of her religious conventions (this was a University remember!) but every time she gained something, she wanted something more.
To be fair though I have to say that I worked with a 2nd generation westernised Muslim woman (permanent staff member) and she was great. She observed Ramadan, but took her annual leave for it etc. And if it fell at an inconvenient point for work, she didn’t take the time off.
tim gallagher says
Thanks for your comment, Dawne. You mention the Muslim woman who was no trouble at all, which is good. But there are surely too many of the other type of Muslim that you mention. I just feel that we have all other groups of people, whether Buddhists, Hindus or others who never seem to demand any special treatment, so my conclusion is that Muslims aren’t worth the trouble they bring in so many different ways. Islam seems to me to be incompatible with our western way of life and they always seem to be challenging and demanding that we make all sorts of special arrangements for them. They’re just not worth the trouble too many of them bring.
Hugh Fitzgerald says
if there can be changes in the exam schedule for Muslims, that surely means they willl take their exams after Ramadan is over. how will Muslim students be prevented from finding out what was on a particular exam, from those who took it at the originally scheduled time?
Or will different exams have to be prepared for Ramadan-observing students? More work for professors. And what happens if, after the exams are graded, some Muslim students, unhappy with their grades, accuse the instructor of islamophobia because, even if their own names are not on their exam papers, but only an identifying number, they can point out that the grader knew that all of the students taking that post-Ramadan exam were Muslims. And iif they excused from taking exams during Ramadan, can they possibly be expected to have prepared adequately during the month, thirsty and hungry, for the exams they will take after that month ends?
And will Muslims have their morals respected? What if among the monitors of the exam there is an unhijabbed non-Muslim? Will she be too distracting for the male Muslim students to concentrate on the exam? Can a male monitor be allowed to watch over female Muslim students, especially if he approaches close to make sure no cheating — notes under the new niqab, deliberately worn to the exam — is going on?
So many worries about cheating,, if the same exam is given, and so many possibilities for Muslims to cry “islamophobia” if a different exam is prepared for them, and they do not receive the grades they think they deserve. Who decides if Exam #1 is equivalent in difficulty to Exam #2? The students? The professor? An outside committee, with half its members appointed by mister-buttinsky CAIR?
And what happens if, while the exam is being given to the Muslim students, they need to briefly leave in order say one of the three daily prayers they are required to say between the sunrise and sunset prayers? Do you grant that request, so that they alll leave en masse, perhaps to share information on the right answers, or deny it, and face a possible charge of islamophobia?
There is no easy way to solve or resolve this perplexing problem of Ramadan. Is there a hard one?
Dawne says
In the UK I think all of these sort of issues are relatively recent. Until about 15 years ago nobody would have dreamt of making these sort of concessions to religious groups and so they didn’t ask. Then gradually – probably as we have had more immigration from fundamentalist countries – these demands have increased to ridiculous levels. We have lots of other religious groups in the UK – Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, Zoroastrians and of course Christians – and NO other group makes the fuss the Muslims now make about everything. Everybody else just gets on with it.

If muslims are insisting on MORE “prayer” spaces in colleges or in a work environment….
Perhaps students or employees of OTHER religions and beliefs should make the same claim:Buddhists,Hindus,Sikhs…Atheists,Agnostics…
Where will it end?
All that would be needed is a lawyer to make a claim of discrimination on behalf of
any OTHER non-muslim religion..
MORE spaces for Buddhist or Hindu employees
MORE spaces for Jews,Christians etc
MORE spaces for atheists, humanists and agnostics
MORE spaces for the increasing number of fed-up Ex-muslims etc
After all,we cannot have muslim students or employees granted special privileges over non-muslim or non-religious students or employees:that would be discrimination.
Good luck to any college or business dealing with the legal ramifications of FAILING to provide spaces for OTHER beliefs!
If you pander to islam, you’ll have to be seen to be fair to all OTHER religions and beliefs.
Otherwise you are being discriminatory..

There is NO “salvation” in islam, or by/through Islamic prayer. It is a physical and spiritual impossibility; God does not hear prayer to false or other “gods”. That’s a Biblical fact. Here’s another: ALL moslems are going to Hell. Every last one of them. How can this be known? John 3:16.

Physically they are not praying in the direction of Mekkah. They pray towards the direction of the ass**hole of one who prays just one row ahead of him.

Muslims, is living on our tax money, housing, food and clothes and 4 wives not enough. Your praying rooms, go home and pray in your houses, but not in Universities, they are not for that.
I tell you, you do not have a right definition of the word “IMPUNITY’ AND YOU DON’T KNOW THE MEANING OF THE WORD!
IMPUNITY RESIDES WITHIN YOURSELF, it means you have done, thought wrong and evil things and hate to thirty yourself, like killing, beheading, flogging, stoning, raping, lying, behaving dictatorial, cutting of hands and feet, mutilation and beating your women. That all and a lot more is :Impunity and there are not enough baths to wash yourself in, or your feet, because the dirth does not come of ,and it might look holier than thou, but it does not mean any more cleannes You can only ask God to forgive you and repent and work to get yourself clean again and work on yourself that you don’t do the same things again.
If you really want God, to answer you, you have to ask Him to tell you everything you need to know.
But if you only ask for proof like that or for any stuff, nothing happens, because God knows already what your intention with this question is and knows already who will ask this questioning in sincerity.
So any more wishes, muslim people, this is how the Indians (natives of America) started ,many of many religions, only not the muslims, because they still feel superior to any body else.
Next time when you feel superior to the hands that feed you, think of yourself, what you have been doing, may be beat your wives or anything else. Seek out who you really are and why you do things you do, and you might come to the realisation how much right you do and don’t. The confrontation with yourself is the hardest. It is not about conquering the world, it is about conquering yourself, that is the biggest victory.
I am not here to judge you, you did that yourself already. God bless!
terra Nova says
What I wrote here before, is really for everybody of all religions, ideologies, whatever.. There are many roads that lead to Rome or Jerusalem, diverse roads and diverse people, but the end goal is the same and will always be the same, so it is not only for Muslim people, but for all people and I can tell you, if you are honest,
confrontation with yourself is difficult, it takes many lives to live and LOVE is the biggest gift, and the most difficult to manifest between all people., But everyone needs to try a new beginning. The only way!But even on the way you will discover that strange things happen, because good or bad, what you put in, comes back to you sometimes in different forms, but it does
Sol says
What about allocating a room for stoning and beheading?
