There’s been a pattern of Islamic terrorists in the region targeting hotels. Here’s the latest attack.
Heavily armed gunmen attacked a luxury hotel in southwestern Pakistan on Saturday, in an assault in which a Pakistani separatist group claimed to be targeting Chinese interests and warned of further violence.
“After more than 10 hours of continuous battle and achieving all their targets the BLA fighters have used their last bullets on them and have left this world,” said a Twitter post by what claims to be the official account of the separatist group, the Baluchistan Liberation Army.
It added: “Expect more attacks China and Pakistan.”
A Pakistani military official said that the gunmen had killed a security guard at the hotel entrance. The Chinese Embassy in Islamabad said that two other security agents had been wounded.
The hotel, the Zaver Pearl Continental in the city of Gwadar in Baluchistan Province, is frequently used by top government officials and Chinese workers employed on a port project in the area.
It’s nice that while conservatives are being banned, terrorists are able to enjoy the use of social media.
The BLA is in theory nationalistic and secular. But in practice, it’s been backed by Islamic countries, including Iran, and has links to the Pakistan Muslim League.
The BLA attack appears not to have worked all that well. And the hotel appears to be a less than thrilling vacation destination.
For a hotel of international standard and international clientele, I was beyond disappointed.
The bathrooms were unclean, the toilets weren’t flushing, and there was no toilet paper.

Tarek Fatah a supporter of Balochistan was celebrating in subtle words calling it a freedom battle and even Reuters titled this attack as battle!

Fatah is nothing but a taqqiyya artiist trying to remodel islam as a peaceful religion by claiming most of the hadiths are false and that the quran itself is misinterpeted.
Malek al Kuffar says
Baluchi separatist insurgents may be terrorists, but even though they are almost certainly Muslims, they don’t qualify as Islamic terrorists, since they are not fighting for their religion but instead for their independence.

Oh, good grief.
Why do most Muslims fight for “independence”? Because whatever state they are living in is deemed “insufficiently Islamic”. They want “independence” so that they can impose Shari’ah law, and then attack their neighbors and do the same.

Totally ignorant comment from gravenimage.
Please do your homework. Baluchistan is under occupation from a brutal Pak govt and have been fighting for independence ever since Pakistan was formed. They are severely oppressed and there are rampant human rights violations there by the Pak security forces. Baluchis are ethnically different from the ruling Punjabis of Pakistan and are discriminated against.
They want to survive with dignity first and yes, they are also Muslims. So do they want Sharia first or a life of dignity?
Death comes before dishonour, for some.
Chand says
You are correct Malek kuffar. They are fighting for independence as they have only received death, oppression, humiliation, exploitation, human rights abuses and discrimination as Baluchis from the ruling Punjabi classes in Pakistan. Do they want Sharia first or a life of dignity?
My guess is dignity and honor comes first. They have been fighting for independence ever since Pakistan was formed.

@Chand: Being muslim means you will never enjoy a life of dignity. I’m sorry, but drinking camel piss is undignified no matter how holy Moe said it was. Ditto for washing with dirt and eating flies.

1. If you have ever travelled to that part of the world, the description of the accommodation sounds pretty accurate for the standard level of service and function. Unless you know the source, even the bottled water nor the cooked food may be safe. The containers and serving utensils may be contaminated.
2. I do not think that China will fare any better in Pakistan or China than the US, USSR, or Britain.
Kepha says
Balochi separatism is another long-standing, simmering issue. Generally, it has been Muslims (Balochis) against Muslims (the rest of Pakistan, and, to some extent, Iran). China is perceived as Pakistan’s great friend, so it will be targeted by the Balochi separatists.

Catholic church in north-central Burkina Faso was attacked by armed men on Sunday morning, leaving at least six people, including the priest, dead, Radio France Internationale (RFI) reported.
The attackers opened fire on the faithful at the beginning of Mass in the village of Dablo, 90 km from Kaya, according to FRANCE 24’s sister radio station, RFI.
“Towards 9:00am, during mass, armed individuals burst into the Catholic Church,” the mayor of Dablo, Ousmane Zongo, told AFP. “They started firing as the congregation tried to flee.”
The attack is believed to have been carried out by a “group of some twenty to thirty armed men”, according to a security source.
“They burned down the church, then shops and a small restaurant before going to the health centre where they searched the premises and set fire to the head nurse’s vehicle,” Mr. Zongo said. “The city is filled with panic. People are holed up at home. Shops and stores are closed. It’s practically a ghost town.”
The attack comes two days after the release of four hostages in northern Burkina Faso by French special forces in a daring night-time raid.
Frenchmen Laurent Lassimouillas, 46, and Patrick Picque, 51, were seized by kidnappers in Benin’s Pendjari National Park, near the border with Burkina Faso, on May 1.
Intelligence agencies tracked their captors across the semi-desert terrain of eastern Burkina Faso, where it appeared they would soon cross the border into Mali.
Officials feared the hostages would be handed over to the Macina Liberation Front (FLM), a jihadist group formed in 2015 that is aligned with al Qaeda in the region. Macron gave the order for the nighttime raid on the militants’ camp on Thursday.
Burkina Faso has witnessed increasingly frequent and deadly terrorist attacks over the past four years, attributed to jihadist groups such as Ansarul Islam, the Group to Support Islam and Muslims (GSIM) and the Islamic State in the Great Sahara (EIGS).
Sunday’s attack is the second assault on a Catholic church since the terrorist attacks in the country began in 2015.

BBC; Pakistan attack: Gunmen storm five-star hotel in Balochistan
The Pearl Continental Hotel is popular among foreign visitors
Three gunmen who stormed a five-star hotel in the restive Pakistani province of Balochistan, killing at least one guard, have been shot dead by security forces, officials say.
The attack and subsequent siege, which targeted the Zaver Pearl-Continental Hotel in the strategic port city of Gwadar, lasted several hours.
A hotel spokesman said there were no guests and few staff due to Ramadan.
The separatist Balochistan Liberation Army said it carried out the attack.
The group said that the hotel, the centrepiece of a multi-billion-dollar Chinese project, was selected in order to target Chinese and other investors.
Militants in Balochistan oppose Chinese investment, saying it is of little benefit to local people.
FINANCIAL TIMES: Eight killed in attack on hotel in southwestern Pakistan
Separatists claim responsibility for assault in port on key China trade route
At least eight people were killed in this weekend’s separatist attack targeting Chinese and other foreign investors at a luxury hotel in Pakistan’s south-western city of Gwadar, Pakistani government officials said on Sunday. The dead included three gunmen who had stormed the Pearl Continental hotel — the only five-star hotel in the city — four hotel workers and a Pakistani soldier.
The attack, which began late on Saturday afternoon, ended early on Sunday when Pakistani forces seized control of the hotel. The attackers were all killed in the gun battle with the Pakistani military. The hotel is often used by high profile Pakistani and Chinese visitors. But according to senior Pakistani officials, there were no guests there at the time of the attack, mainly because travel across the country slows considerably during the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan, which began in Pakistan on Tuesday.A separatist group calling itself the Balochistan Liberation Army claimed responsibility for the attack, which it said was aimed at “Chinese and other foreign investors”.
