In 2017, Human Rights Watch was complaining that the Saudi crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood had entangled a number of clerics including Sheikh Ayed al-Qarni.
“These apparently politically motivated arrests are another sign that Mohammad bin Salman has no real interest in improving his country’s record on free speech and the rule of law,” said Sarah Leah Whitson, Middle East director at Human Rights Watch. “Saudis’ alleged efforts to tackle extremism are all for show if all the government does is jail people for their political views.”
Here were some of those views on display back when CAIR was advocating for Qarni.
The head of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) vows to complain to U.S. Department of Homeland Security officials after they blocked a radical Saudi cleric from entering the country this week to attend a national Islamist conference in Chicago.
Sheikh Ayed al-Qarni was scheduled to speak twice during the Muslim American-Society (MAS)/Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) national convention Dec. 22-25. But a statement released during the convention expressed “the unpleasant and saddening news” that al-Qarni had been removed from his flight from Saudi Arabia despite having a visa from the U.S. embassy, and that he appears to be on the U.S. “no-fly list.” Al-Qarni is described as “one of our great speakers” and as someone known “for his logical discourse and balanced views, he promotes understanding and collaboration between all people, regardless of their faith, background, or language.”
During a 2005 sermon flagged by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), al-Qarni called the jihad against American forces in Fallujah “a source of pride … downing their planes, destroying equipment, slaughtering them, taking them hostage, and proclaiming ‘Allah Akhbar’ from the mosques, and the worshippers and the preacher cursing them in their prayers, and then come others begging for forgiveness, and requesting a dialogue and a ceasefire and negotiations. Who can say even one word against this true Jihad against these colonialist occupiers?” [Emphasis added]
He belittled Muslims who failed to take action, including “harming the Jews.” He invoked Israel’s targeted killings of Hamas leaders Ahmed Yassin and Abdel-Aziz Rantisi, saying he prayed that Allah “will destroy the Jews and their helpers from among the Christians and the Communists, and that He will turn them into the Muslims’ spoils. I praise the Jihad, the sacrifice, and the resistance against the occupiers in Iraq. We curse them all of them every night and pray that Allah will annihilate them, tear them apart, and grant us victory over them…”
“Throats must be slit and skulls must be shattered,” al-Qarni said. “This is the path to victory, to shahada, and to sacrifice.”
A 2005 interview published in the London-based Al-Quds Al-Arabi March 2005 quoted Nasir Ahmad Nasir Abdallah al-Bahri, one of Osama bin Laden’s personal bodyguards, saying al-Qarni was among the Saudi clerics whose preaching influenced bin Laden’s followers.
“We were also influenced by the sermons delivered by some speakers in the mosques in Jedda about jihad in Afghanistan. The cassettes on jihad that influenced us most were those by Shaykh A’id [Ayed] al-Qarni, especially the first cassette, titled ‘Nights in Afghanistan,’ and the second cassette, ‘The Afghanistan I saw. Al-Qarni used to speak, enjoin, and call for jihad in an astonishing way.”
Now, he’s sorry.
Dubai: Aaidh Al Qarni has caused a lot of noise after he appeared on a talk show and apologized for his hardline interpretations of Islam and called for a more modernised Islam.
“I apologise in the name of the Sahwa to the Saudi society for the mistakes that were not related to Islam and for the extreme fatwas,” Al Qarni told Saudi TV show Al Laiwan airing on Rotana Khaleej on Monday evening.
Al Sahwa movement was a faction of Muslim Brotherhood in Saudi Arabia. They demanded a bigger role for clergy in governing and a more conservative society as a defense against Western cultural influences. They also opposed the presence of US troops on “Muslim land.”
Al Qarni said he now supported the moderate Islam advocated by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman.
“I apologize to Saudi society for the mistakes that have contradicted the Qur’an and Sunnah, and contradicted the tolerance of Islam, a moderate religion.”
Al Qarni apologised in the same interview about his ties with Qatar, accusing it of “conspiring” against Saudi Arabia.
The Saudis are cleaning up a mess that they helped create once it became a threat to them. And they’re showing how surprisingly easy it is to take Jihadist imams and turn them into lambs.

The Muslim Brotherhood was founded in Egypt as a copy of the Italian fascists and later they copied the Hitlerites and collaborated with them.
It is not far off to think of the MB as the Egyptian Nazi party.
gravenimage says
Mortimer, the Muslim Brotherhood was also founded in the wake of the dismantling of the last Caliphate as a revival of Islam.
They did indeed copy aspects of Fascism–but the Muslim Brotherhood has always been more Islamic than anything else.

Arguably most instructive of all is that the Saudis consider this guy a moderate.

We see our own citizens losing their careers and everything they have over something critical or “perceived” to be offensive to someone (and sometimes it is just one) while totally ignoring many calls to annihilate us and our allies. Twisted!

To all Jihad Watch readers, I found a great article from the Gatestone Institute entitled:

We’ve been told the Quran is the word of God, Islam can’t be changed, can’t be reformed. But a leading influential and hard line jihadist is now publicly advocating for a more tolerant and peaceful version. Please explain how this is even possible? The explanation is he was young and misinterpreted the texts. There you go. Islam fixed, just like that.
Of course we have to see more details of what has actually changed in practice but this is a good thing.
Frank Anderson says
RCCA, I have done a lot of reading from many different authors. I AM NOT on par with experts. My reading, without disagreement among the authors, agrees that any attempt to reform, redefine or “moderate” the violent, oppressive teachings of islam is considered apostasy which is punishable by death. As lying whenever advantage can be obtained is as fundamental to all islam as the prohibition against bearing false witness is to Christianity and Judaism, any claim of intention to reform must be treated as false. Believing in totally wishful, delusional propositions is the path straight to death. You have your right to choose life or death for yourself, but not for me.

Muslim Brotherhood ties expand politically in USA
——————————————————————-
Anti-Semitism is quickly on the rise within the Democratic Party, and the poster children for it are two high-profile freshmen US Representatives, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan. Florida, too, has its own Democrat Islamist anti-Semite, anti-Israel activist Rasha Mubarak.Mubarak is on a mission to destroy the Jewish state, Israel, and she is taking the Florida Democratic Party with her.
Elected in November 2018, Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib are the first Muslim women to serve in the US Congress. Recently, both have been cited for making anti-Semitic statements, relative to the issue of Israel. And while no one suggests that criticism of Israel is out of bounds, the statements that these women have made have crossed the line. This includes bringing up the ‘dual-loyalty’ canard, which has been used against Jews for millennia, and suggesting that Jewish money is buying off politicians. These assertions and more have led to both Omar and Tlaib being reprimanded by the Simon Wiesenthal Centerand members of their own party.
Minnesota and Michigan are not the only states where Democratic Party leaders are spouting anti-Semitism. It is happening, as well, in the Sunshine State and in a big way.
On April 9th, the Florida Young Democrats (FYD) released, in part, the following message: “We are excited to officially welcome Rasha Mubarak to our FYD Board as Central Florida Regional Director. Though a new addition to our board, Rasha has already been hard at work with chartering a new Osceola Young Democrats, working on this year’s Campaign Academy programming and leading our 2019 Convention planning in Orlando.”
. . . . .
In the April 9th FYD message welcoming Mubarak, FYD also acknowledged that Mubarak had previously served as the Central Florida Regional Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). By acknowledging this fact, FYD was admitting that Mubarak had been involved in a group associated with international terrorism.
CAIR was established, in June 1994, as part of an umbrella group headed by then-global leader of Hamas, Mousa Abu Marzook. CAIR has been cited by the US government for its involvement in the financing of Hamas. CAIR-Florida, itself, has been linked with support for Hamas. In July 2014, CAIR-Florida was the co-sponsor of a pro-Hamas rally held in Downtown Miami. After the rally, the event organizer, Sofian Zakkout, wrote, “Thank God, every day we conquer the American Jews like our conquests over the Jews of Israel!” In August 2014, CAIR-Florida Executive Director Hassan Shibly tweeted, “Israel and its supporters are enemies of God.”
CAIR was not the only terror-linked group Mubarak has been affiliated with. She has also been a longtime volunteer for Islamic Relief (IR).
Islamic Relief’s ties to terror are well known. The Russian government has accused Islamic Relief of supporting terrorism in Chechnya. Israel has banned the group, labeling it a Hamas front and arresting the organization’s Gaza Program Manager, Ayaz Ali, in 2006, for providing “funds and assistance to various Hamas institutions and organizations.” At the end of 2014, Britain’s HSBC bank cut ties with Islamic Relief over concerns about “terrorist financing.” Reports show that Islamic Relief has sent millions of dollars to and received tens of thousands of dollars from groups related to al-Qaeda.
In November 2014, Mubarak was a featured speaker at the Al-Awda 12th Annual International Convention, held in Fort Lauderdale. Al-Awda, the Palestine Right to Return Coalition, is a US-based activist group, which opposes Israel’s right to exist. Participating, along with Mubarak, were then-Chair of Al-Awda, Anas Amireh, who advocates Palestinians use cars as weapons and refers to Israel as the “Zionist enemy,” and then-Vice Chair of Al-Awda, Abbas Hamideh, who told Jews, in October 2015, “Rest assured Zionism will be eradicated and if you’re lucky you’ll be sent back to Europe where you belong…” Hamidehsays peace with Israel only means “surrender.”
Though she was born in Brooklyn, New York and grew up in Orlando, Florida, Mubarak likes to refer to herself as a Muslim Palestinian American. Her bias against Israel is evident in most everything she does and says. But like Representatives Omar and Tlaib and her comrades at Al-Awda, Mubarak’s views regarding Israel are far beyond criticism. Indeed, Mubarak believes Israel does not have the right to defend herself.
