“Islamophobia” scam artist and Israel-hater Nathan Lean’s tweets exemplify the literal politics of personal destruction of this thuggish longstanding Georgetown University associate. He advocates harassment or even violence against anyone who does not parrot his hard left agendas.
Lean’s advocacy of political harassment encompassed outrageous approval for a Lexington, Virginia, restaurant’s expulsion of President Donald Trump’s press secretary, Sarah Sanders. “You deserve ZERO respect, and the owner of Red Hen deserves a Nobel Prize for kicking your lousy, lying, bootlicking ass out of her restaurant,” Lean tweeted.
Lean similarly cheered on a mob that had chased the Kentucky Republican Senator Mitch McConnell outside a Louisville restaurant. Even though these hooligans attacked him for supporting preexisting policies of separating dependent children from imprisoned illegal aliens that President Barack Obama had overseen, Lean tweeted:
Good. Every day should be made miserable for Mitch. He shouldn’t be able to eat in public, shop in grocery stores, or go to the bank drive-thru. Follow him everywhere. Taunt him. Shout him down. Hold him accountable. Then vote his sorry ass out.
In cases where crazed extremists with Lean’s leftist leanings have actually tried to kill conservatives, such as during the 2018 shooting of Republican Representative Steve Scalise and three others, Lean has exhibited shocking callousness. Lean snottily responded to praise for Scalise’s difficult recovery from possibly fatal shooting wounds. He merely “was shot while playing softball one morning and went back to his cushy government job three months later. What’s so heroic about that?”
Lean’s embrace of intimidation tactics also includes so-called de-platforming of conservatives through violence or other censorship means. He euphemistically tweeted in 2017 that “it’s usually public pressure that compels universities to rescind invitations.” He thereby whitewashed violent protesters the previous February at the University of California—Berkeley, who caused $100, 000 in damages and forced the rightwing celebrity Milo Yiannopoulos to call off a speaking engagement.
Lean similarly glossed over violence when referencing conservative commentator Ann Coulter, who had to call off an April 2017 Berkeley speaking engagement when university officials could not find a secure venue. He tweeted that “public pressure may cause the speakers themselves to back out (i.e., Ann Coulter).”
Lean fantasized that Yiannopoulos had no right to make a 2017 presentation at California State University—Fullerton at the invitation of the College Republicans. Lean absurdly tweeted that the “First Amendment doesn’t guarantee access to property simply because it’s owned or controlled by the government (public university).” Official university statements contradicted him precisely on this point, stating that the “law is clear” in forbidding viewpoint discrimination on public property, and heavy police protection ultimately enabled Yiannopoulos to speak amidst sometimes violent protests.
Lean outright condoned violence by radical leftists during 2017 clashes with white supremacists and neo-Nazis at Charlottesville, Virginia. “People were beating up Nazis. If you must beat up someone, a Nazi’s not the worst place to start.”
Lean’s comments are particularly disturbing given his warped understanding of who is a racist, Nazi, etc. He joined in the misinformation campaign to slander Trump adviser Sebastian Gorka as the “White House’s resident Nazi.”
Lean also abetted the media frenzy to denounce Catholic school student Nicholas Sandmann. A confusing video had suggested to some that he, while wearing a Trump 2016 election campaign Make America Great Again (MAGA) hat, had racially harassed a Native American man in 2019 on the mall in Washington, DC. More extensive analysis later exposed such charges as completely baseless, and Sandmann’s lawyers are now suing media outlets such as the Washington Post and CNN for defamation. Nonetheless, Lean had tweeted that “MAGA hat boy’s mother can’t admit that her son is a card-carrying racist, so she blames ‘black Muslims’ for her son harassing Native American man.”
On Twitter, Lean has made unhinged rants against the National Rifle Association (NRA), a “domestic terrorist organization. Its members & political beneficiaries are no better than the foot soldiers of ISIS.”
Lean has therefore held the NRA supporter Senator Marco Rubio responsible for having “killed these children” massacred in the 2018 Parkland, Florida, school shooting.
Lean’s penchant for political insults has astonished this author, whom Lean has sophomorically denigrated as a “NAZI,” “white supremacist,” and “white nationalist.”
Lean has ludicrous standards for making such assertions, as his analysis of Yiannopoulos showed. This politically incorrect provocateur had attacked the appearance and intelligence of the African-American actor Leslie Jones. “Offensive comments about a black woman’s appearance and her intelligence is racism,” he had tweeted, as if such comments could never have nonracial motives.
Lean claimed that the merits of criticizing and/or insulting a person depended upon whether one “race community is marginalized, stigmatized, & disenfranchised, and the other is not,” a kind of “linguistic affirmative action” noted by this author.
Lean’s snarky distortions of his opponents’ arguments thoroughly undermine his credibility, as when he twisted this author’s comparison of Communism and Nazism’s various totalitarian horrors. While Nazism inflicted unique evils including the Shoah genocide against the Jews in 12 nightmarish years, Communist regimes have ruled for far longer, over a much greater territorial extent, and have claimed many more millions of victims. For Jews in particular, Communist threats to Jews and Israel have been greater present dangers than Nazism following the Third Reich’s 1945 demise.
Like other leftists, Lean not only trivializes Communist crimes, but also stridently embraces both Islam and LGBT agendas. This intellectual incoherence would puzzle Muslims such as Jonathan Brown, an American convert who leads Georgetown’s Saudi-funded Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding (ACMCU), where Lean was a researcher. Brown and other Muslims have extensively analyzed how LGBT behaviors violate often brutal Islamic norms. Yet Lean has hurled accusations of “Ugly transphobia” at this author, who has opposed the costly introduction of gender insanity into the American military.
Unsurprisingly, the self-proclaimed interfaith understanding promoter Lean demands compelled celebration of LGBT behaviors from conscientious objectors despite their religious and/or moral objections. As usual, he has smeared a refusal to create expressions approving of LGBT lifestyles as equal to an outright denial of morally-neutral economic exchanges, something he scandalously celebrated in Sanders’ restaurant harassment. “The whole idea of a ‘Christian baker’ is nonsense,” he has fumed, an example of how “people front religion so as to weaponize it against others.”
Already on Twitter, Lean has imperiously attacked one of his presumably Muslim followers who dissented from Lean’s LGBT diktat. “I am sorry but how you can say that homosexuality is fine. It is not productive (just pleasure),” the follower tweeted.
Lean snidely responded that he would not “toe the line for your warped religious views, nor those of Christian fundamentalists who share them.”
The Muslim follower accurately responded that he expressed “not only a religious view. It is pure logic, homosexuality does not sustain life nor promote a logical sense of identity.” Particularly concerning child rearing, studies document his concern that in a same-sex household a “child will be missing features of the absent gender and lack something very profound growing up.”
With Lean’s “pelvic left” leanings, he has predictably tweeted warnings against conservative nominations to the United States Supreme Court such as the “dangerous” Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
Rather than a scholar of the Supreme Court or anything else, Lean is more of a foul-mouthed creep who has a penchant for taking Jesus Christ’s name in vain as a curse word as well as dropping F-bombs.
Lean is as unfunny as he is uncouth. His pubescent humor finds amusement in lines such as “Breitbart, America’s number 1 website for adult virgins.”
Lean’s twisted views on various matters like “Islamophobia” and Israel have no sound substance, but merely reflect leftist litanies of the today’s Social Justice Warriors, yet rebuke will only activate his “woke” rage. When he and his allies face challenge, he encourages not reasoned, respectful debate, but insult, harassment, censorship, and violence. Lean’s hitherto acceptance at prestigious institutions such as Georgetown is an ominous, damning indictment of modern academia.

Why do twitter and facebook not ban the thuggish Nathan Lean who ADAMANTLY SUPPORTS violence, arbitrary discrimination and hatred directed against any critic of Islam, no matter how legitimate or well-founded the criticism.
Nathan Lean is an obvious foreign-paid propagandist. He should be forensically audited by the FBI and his communications monitored by the CIA, since is a paid agent of foreign countries.
Jon Sobieski says
Yes, he is 10 times worse than anything Milo said, mocking the Ghostbusters women, but he is still there spewing bile. Let him but let others as well. That is the problem. Selective censorship.
mortimer says
Nathan Lean opposes the counterjihad, not because counterjihadists call for violence, but because they DO NOT call for violence or ill treatment … i.e. ill treatment of disbelievers. THAT is what ISLAM does: Islam calls for HATRED and HOSTILITY to be directed against disbelieving KAFIRS ‘for the sake of Allah’.
So … you see … it isn’t PROMOTING TERRORISM when Nathan Lean promotes JIHAD-TERRORISM.
In the twisted thought of Nathan Lean, it isn’t ‘TERRORISM’ when Muslims do it.
And the twisted Nathan Lean is a SPOKESMAN FOR WAHHABIST ISLAM and a paid one.
mortimer says
Nathan Lean promoted the harassment of high school students waiting at a pre-determined rendezvous point for their school bus.
What a sorry excuse for a propagandist. Very ineffective. Obviously reprehensible to gratuitously harass school children while waiting for their bus.
James Lincoln says
Nathan Lean is a graduate student studying Islam and Christianity
at Georgetown University with the following college degrees:
MA (2013), Georgetown University
MA (2010), East Carolina University
BA (2007), East Carolina University
According to Georgetown University’s website, Nathan’s research interests “focus on religious pluralism, Muslim-Christian relations, discourse and religion, anti-Muslim prejudice, and the dynamics of engagement between Muslims and Christians in North Africa.”
After all of this study, he knows far less about the truth of Islam than the average Jihad Watch reader. Truly amazing.
Andrew Harrod is correct in his characterization; Nathan Lean is truly a highly “educated” – but badly misinformed – leftist thug.

Your post, James, reminds me of what Dennis Prager occasionally has said on his radio program and that is , “Now what I’m about to say will be understood by people unless they have gone to graduate school.”

James Lincoln says
Keys,
“Sonny” played a great character – but “Michael” was the more effective “Don”…
Wellington says
Keys: One of many classic lines from one of the greatest films of all time. Thanks.
Back to Dennis Prager. He has said the two most destructive things to America over the past half century or so have been television and college education. Respecting the latter, the liberal arts, humanities and the training of teachers by way of education degrees have been utterly destroyed by the Left. Now, the Left is working on destroying science education, as examples, man-made climate change being put forth as established when it has not been established at all (N.B. ocean currents and solar activity far, far more influence climate than does man’s output of CO2) and asserting that while one can be born gay one really is not born male or female.
The Age of Nonsense continues to march on first and foremost because everything the Left touches it ruins. This would include education, science, late-night comedy, sports, the Boy Scouts, Christianity, Judaism, patriotism, marriage—it’s a very long list. The Left NEVER improves anything, which would include allowing for a proper understanding of Islam by way of denigrating anyone who dares criticize any feature of this wretched religion.
Yep, the Left ALWAYS gets things wrong. Proceed from this point I would contend for anyone who really wants to know the truth of things. It’s deuce difficult to be more damaging than Islam, but the Western Left has managed to do this. A “stunning achievement” to be sure. You know, there is no way one can despise Islam and not also despise the Left since the two are tied at the hip and one knows this by now or should know it.
Hope you and yours are doing well. Now, back to the fight.
James Lincoln says
Wellington,
Thank you for the reply – you are certainly correct regarding Dennis Prager.
I as a sidebar, I respectfully request your valued opinion regarding a posting by me found further down on this email string.
It has to do with starting an anti-Islamic jihad college.
Definitely an “outside the box” idea…
Best wishes.

Good, helpful research from J.Lincoln. Fascinating that the intolerant, jihad-defending Lean is studying ‘pluralism’. Presumably, he is hoping to find the flaws and holes in pluralism so that it can be defeated by Islamic supremacism.
Eventually, after reading and studying the arguments of the counterjihad (which are based on authenticated facts and correct reasoning), Nathan Lean will come to the conclusion that he has no counterargument for them.
In fact, Lean will discover that Islam cannot be defended by a moral argument, an historical argument or by a logical argument. Islam is opposed to all Western thought, since Islam is pre-Enlightenment, pre-Renaissance and pre-psychological and completely duplicitous, amoral and self-referentially incoherent. Think about that, Nathan. You are defending the mediaeval desert nomads from criticism.
Rick Shaftan says
He’s taken down all his past tweets.
Alarmed Pig Farmer says
Lean fantasized that Yiannopoulos had no right to make a 2017 presentation at California State University—Fullerton at the invitation of the College Republicans.
His fantasies remind us that there is no right to speak publicly about Islam, especially at a college. And that’s no fantasy, it’s as real as a chronic seizure of frozen homeostasis.
And there’s no equivalent of a chapter of College Republicans for the resistance to Islam. Except maybe those of us in here. Think of us as a chapter of Islamosavants, only one chapter in what promises to be a thick book of Islamodramas.
James Lincoln says
I had a thought, and I would like Jihad Watch readers very valued opinions.
As a counterweight to the leftist / Marxist / globalist / Islamic college level propaganda, how about this – starting with the United States:
A private college – independently funded and fully accredited – with full Bachelor, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees in Anti-Islamic Jihad. Everything taught would – by definition – be objective and evidence-based.
It could be called, say, the “Robert Spencer Institute”. A core group of instructors could, for starters, consist of the many fine feature writers for Jihad Watch. Representatives from all of the many excellent objective and evidence-based anti-jihad individuals / groups in the United States – and worldwide – could join in.
After one college was started and up and running, branch campuses could follow both in the United States and throughout the free world. Eventually, thousands upon thousands of well-trained graduates could spread the OBJECTIVE truth regarding Islam.
And they would have the street credentials of being a graduate from a college recognized for its objective and evidence-based approach to Islam.
Thoughts?
Wellington says
A noble intention, James, but would this same institute/college grant degrees in the sciences, liberal arts, engineering, etc.? There would also be the matter of it being accredited and right now those in the accreditation process are, almost without exception, Lefties.
Why not instead have alumni of sundry universities and colleges who are conservative, and who comprehend the menace to America which is the Islamic faith, refuse en masse to make any more contributions to their alma mater until it is clearly demonstrated that true diversity of opinion is openly respected? No more crap like 45 of the 46 history professors at a major university being registered Democrats. If only higher education, which is now abysmal lower indoctrination, be truly represented across the political spectrum and true freedom of speech exist, I would be contented with this and then some.
I say let’s reform the rot that now exists in education from kindergarten through graduate school. Keep the form and go back to basics and fairness and thus consign Leftism to no longer controlling the entire educational process. This would be my approach.
James Lincoln says
Wellington,
Thank you very much for the reply.
You certainly are correct, the accreditation process for an “Anti-Islamic Jihad Institute” would be very difficult, especially considering the fact that the people involved in the process tend to be from the left.
I agree wholeheartedly with the conservative alumni “boycott” against schools where diversity of opinion is not respected – and the political leanings of the college professors do not reflect the general population. Nothing talks like the American dollar.
“Reform the rot that now exists in education…” – Absolutely!
Your approach is very pragmatic – and I like it.
That being said…
Perhaps it’s not a complete either/or situation. A combination of your approach – fully implemented – and maybe a scaled-down version of my approach. Perhaps start off with an “Anti-Islamic Jihad Institute” that is a certificate program – with the goal of eventual full accreditation, etc.
Obviously something needs to be done from the ground up – and the world is currently coming up short on real solutions.
Wellington says
I personally wouldn’t mind such an institute as you propose, James, but if it becomes a reality it had better have supremely good security protection.
Keys says
James Lincoln –
Just brainstorming on your idea and Wellington’s response –
Perhaps within the current University structure, which is the best approach in my opinion, an “anti Jihad” (would need a better name) Department could be set up for students to earn majors or minors (for Pete’s sake kids now earn degrees in Gender Studies from that Dept.). This Dept. would need special protections on current campuses.
The Saudis, and other Arab countries, have given endowments at almost every university/college for various things – special libraries, visiting professors, centers for the study of “xyz”, etc. For example, Georgetown has a “Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies”. To teach a counter course in that dept. would be dangerous, but a great way to inhibit the indoctrination.
Apart from the current system, how about several “Centers” throughout the USA that offer a certificate or endorsement for completion of study where the students (high school and up ??) apply and are paid to attend tuition free. Satisfactorily complete the coursework of “x” amount of hours and earn course credit toward the certificate plus $1,000. Courses: Mohammad-Hadiths-Koran, History of Islam, Sharia & Jihad, etc. Devil’s in the details, and there is a safety factor, and the Saudis would counter.
Regarding $$$$$$$ where Alumni stop supporting their alma mater unless counter PC views are part of the requirements, etc.: Lots of people support their alma mater because of pride in their sports teams.
If a university takes federal funds, legislation requiring protection for opposing viewpoints.
Maybe the best idea is a viewer supported cable TV station that could eventually be broadcast worldwide at no charge to local cable companies. There are successful religious channels on cable that reach millions. I am surprised the Saudis don’t have one broadcasting in English (maybe they think that would work against them in the USA).
Whether or not a station like that would be allowed to broadcast would probably go to the Supreme Court.
It’s a battle in the war !
Just brainstorming, not endorsing.
James Lincoln says
Wellington and Keys,
Thank you so much for the constructive ideas. Lots of good things to think about – and yes – security is always an issue regarding anyone teaching Islamic anti-jihad.
Best wishes and enjoy your evening.
mortimer says
Response to J.Lincoln and Wellington: A counterjihad study institute would indeed need complete security, since it would be a target of jihadists, and so would have to be run by a secret Christian military order such as the Knights of Malta or something very similar. Ideally, government security agencies should be promoting the counterjihad as psychological and ideological warfare.

Agree with DC. He will become depressed by his traitorous work of selling out America to barbarians and quietly drop out to a lonely life. It is a remote possibility that he will see that Islam is exactly as the counterjihad says and he will join the counterjihad.

Georgetown’s theology program is a disaster. There doesn’t look like there is even one person teaching sound Christian Theology. It looks like ever hire is doing Islamic-Christian fusion, or Buddhist-Christian fusion (which violates the teachings of the Bible). Lean will fit in well in this joke of a Theology department. Don’t send your Christian child to Georgetown unless you want them to lose their faith.
