This was inevitable. As I show in my forthcoming book The Palestinian Delusion: The Catastrophic History of the Middle East Peace Process, which will be out later this year and which you can preorder here, the “Palestinian” jihad is not based on poverty or a desire to regain “stolen land”; rather, it stems from deeply held Islamic imperatives that have prevented every negotiated settlement from bringing peace, and which will continue to do so.
“Palestinian president Abbas says certain Bahrain conference will fail,” AFP, June 23, 2019:
Ramallah (Palestinian Territories) (AFP) – Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas said Sunday he was confident a peace conference this week in Bahrain would fail.
“We are certain that the workshop in Manama will not be successful,” Abbas, who is boycotting the US-led conference focussed on the Palestinian economy, told journalists.
The US government unveiled Saturday the economic part of its peace plan that it will present in Bahrain on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the aim of raising more than $50 billion for the Palestinians and creating one million jobs within a decade.
Abbas’s government had already rejected the proposal, saying the dispute with Israel is political and accusing the US of seeking to buy Palestinian support.
“We will not be slaves or servants for Greenblatt, Kushner and Friedman,” Abbas told journalists at his presidential office in Ramallah, referring to US President Donald Trump’s negotiating team, including his son-in-law Jared Kushner….

Offer should have been conditional on general elections in both West Bank and Gaza. Let them explain that away.
Rachele Raanan says
Easy-peasy. ‘Democracy’ is just a nefarious plot by the satanic Americans and Israel to undermine the sacred traditions of the ‘ancient Palestinian’ people.
James says
I would say that general elections would not be worth the trouble. Hamas was elected in the Gaza strip, for example. It is hard to imagine the Palestinians not voting for the extremists. A moderate Muslim would probably not dare to be a candidate for fear of being murdered by one of the extremists. Under Islamic doctrines Muslims must recover any territory ever occupied by Muslims. That means the all of Palestine should be theirs. The same for Spain and the Balkans. Probably Dearborn, MI and Minneapolis also belong to them forever now. As Robert Spencer or Bill Warner say, there are no moderate Islamic scriptures that could be cited by a moderate to defend a moderate course toward a two-state solution. Obama’s socialist doctrine means he has to blame Islamic violence on poor economic prospects, but the grievance politics of the left today also means that the Palestinians have grievances that can only be settled by impossible reparations which could never be paid. Probably a moderate solution would only be possible when there are no rogue Muslim states like Iran that can support the radical Islamists. But how can the West neutralize these countries, when even the EU wants to make economic deals with them to circumvent sanctions by the USA?

True–“democracy” in the Muslim world, where it exists at all, has nothing to do with democratic rights.

No matter how long this standoff between the ‘Palestinians’ and Israel lasts, the first one to blink will lose. And it certainly won’t be Israel, because to lose means to lose everything. The ‘Palestinians’ will lose face, but that’s all.

Thank GOD he was honest to tell part of the truth. He could have taken the deal..the money would have sponsored a lot of terrorism. I don’t think Palestinians will ever be a peaceful people.
Abraham says
Muslims must lie in their negotiated settlements anyway, so there is no point in having peace talks. They want Israel gone and war will alway be the way. Islam is about war and taking what is not yours bc Mohammed claims Muslims are superior to all others, not.
Dennis says
This article emphasizes the underlying fact of life that world leaders, including our own President, and probably the Israeli’s, simply do not understand why a separate state for the “Palestinians” is not in the cards. While it does not surprise me that they are expressing what I have long referred to as the inane Arab mentality, whether or not it is found to be in their best interests to tolerate Israel’s existence as beneficial to the entire region will never influence these people to accept that reality, as they cannot reject the notion that Israel is an occupier and based on the Arab conduct, they intend to evict or murder all those who are Jewish, and take back the area that is presently Israel. This Bahrain meeting will result in nothing, and it will be further support for Israel to take whatever action it deems necessary to define defensible borders, and attempt to convince those Arabs that it is in their best interests if they cannot avoid claiming Israel is an occupier to go live in strictly Arab countries where they can live with their own kind. A monetary incentive might be in order under those circumstances. That is how I see the reality of today’s situation.

Pffffft. I don’t remember ever seeing the PLO refuse American money before. Well, that was free money – apparently, they have a problem with the US actually expecting something in return…

It’s pretty clear to me that there is going to be a war in the Middle East, A VERY BIG WAR! Islam won’t back down and the U.S. sanctions on Iran is backing them into a corner. The people of Iran must be getting tired of the poor economy, so the Leadership wants to goad the U.S. into striking thus stirring up support for Tehran. Remember, Hezbollah is estimated to have about 15,000 missiles on Israel’s border and an estimated 40,000 terror agents outside of Iran.
Frank Anderson says
Paul, I think if you look around you might see the number of missiles that Hezbollah controls in Lebanon is about 10 times higher.

I’d be interested to see how “the Palestinians'” knee-jerk Western supporters respond to this. Silence, as with feminists and the stoning of women to death? Or are they going to defend the Palestinians’ right to poverty, squalor and misery, the way feminists defend a woman’s right to “choose” the hijab? Arise, Mr Galloway. This is your moment.
David Grisez says
There have been a number of peace plans offered to the Palestinians over the last 60 years. Every one of them has been rejected by the Palestinian Authority and Hamas. And often after rejection of a peace plan the Palestinian Authority and Hamas launch an attack on Israel. Because the Palestinian Authority and Hamas have the objective that Israel must be destroyed, which is based on Islamic teaching these two groups will never accept any peace with Israel. This does not have anything to do with the Palestinians having a land of their own. It has everything to do with this Islamic teaching that Israel must be destroyed.
Alarmed Pig Farmer says
So here’s a question: are Moslems living in Israel now treated as slaves? That’s the obvious question to ask in evaluating Abbas’ statement.
But no, the statement will be reported without this and other salient questions to publicly ascertain the truthfulness of his statement. Not in the NYT or WaPo, not on any of the TV channels, not even on the two Fox News channels.
This is how a world gets confused.

Abbas rejects Trump peace plan: “We will not be slaves or servants for Greenblatt, Kushner and Friedman”
…………………
For pious Muslims freedom just means the freedom to abuse and slaughter others–infidels especially, and Jews most of all.
Just glad we didn’t hand over any of this taxpayer money.
James Lincoln says
I think most of us could have predicted that Abbas would reject Trump’s peace plan.
Perhaps President Trump also anticipated this all along. He can now say that he:
-tried to raise more than $50 billion for the Palestinians
and
-create one million jobs within a decade
And it was all REJECTED by the Palestinian leadership!
Another brilliant move by President Trump – and not a penny spent.
KWJ says
We shouldn’t even be offering $50 billion to them, we could use that at home. They make enough off of UNWRA and top leaders are filthy rich. They need to fix their own problems not use American citizens’ money. I don’t want to hear politicians’ excuses. They’ve gotten billions of dollars and if they can’t swing education then that’s because they’re spending it on weapons, training camps for kids aka military and Islamic education. Another thing is in Gaza the average is 5 kids and with that rate it’s becoming a sardine can.

This Abbas prick and his cronies are just an expensive version of Yasser Arafat. If peace is ever achieved they will become irrelevant. Hence the prolonged saga of Palestinian resistance against Israel.
