Afghanistan has border police? How racist?
In any case, the Taliban is trying to establish a Sharia state in Afghanistan. If we stay there for another year, and then leave, the Taliban will take advantage of our absence to try to expand its domains further. If we stay there another 10 years, or 25 years, or 100 years, or 1000 years, and then leave, the Taliban will take advantage of our absence to try to expand its domains further. There must be better ways to contain the jihad threat of the Taliban than to occupy a small portion of a hostile land indefinitely.
“Former Taliban Official Muhammad Nabi Omari Claims U.S. Supports ISIS in Afghanistan, Says: 60-70% of Afghanistan Controlled by Taliban; Our Goal is to Establish an Islamic State,” MEMRI, July 9, 2019:
Muhammad Nabi Omari, the Taliban’s border police chief from 1996 to 2001, said in a July 9, 2019 interview on Russia Today TV that Afghan President Ashraf Ghani controls less than half of Kabul and that he cannot operate in other provinces or districts in Afghanistan because the Afghan people do not listen to him or recognize his authority. Omari said that every province in Afghanistan has its own independent government and that 60-70% of Afghanistan is controlled by the Taliban. Omari also claimed that the U.S. cooperates with Ghani’s government to transport ISIS members between Afghanistan’s provinces, and he said that there are rumors that the U.S. has opened camps for ISIS throughout Afghan territory. He also said that Afghanistan’s intelligence agencies support, arm, and finance ISIS. Omari added that the Taliban’s goal in fighting America is to establish an Islamic state.

As long as the first part of the country’s name starts with “Islamic” the last part does not matter. Yeah, you could even call it the “Islamic Shithole” and it wouldn’t matter as long as it’s Islamic.

No one can “save” Afghanistan. The best we can do is try to contain it, as with other Islamic countries. Unfortunately Europe has a death wish of its own and is thus importing Islam and its proponents and criminals with it. So the best we can do is keep it out of America any way we can. Enforce our own borders, drastically reduce immigration including that from Asia and Europe. Those continents have been overrun and infected by Islam by now and have not successfully resisted. That is a shame for them and a loss to the world but it’s not ours to lose or save. America is. We need to defend our own culture. It is not a race thing – it is a culture thing. Islam still believes slavery is acceptable. We don’t. Islam would end music and dancing. We would not. Islam mistreats women and does not value children. We value women and children. Islam lives in the medieval past. We need to look to a better future. Just keep Islam out of America. Forget the Middle East and Africa and other Islamic regions. They want what they have. It is not up to us to “save” them from themselves. Except for Israel, those regions are lost.

Well, if the people of Afghanistan don’t care, why should we? Let them have sharia law and the Taliban. One thing I have noticed in Minneapolis is that the Muslims don’t care about freedom and democracy. They just want more sharia, burkas, hijabs. If that is their attitude in the USA, why should we expect something else in the middle of nowhere.
Haris says
Middle of nowhere? You must be a Donald Trump supporter. Afghanistan has a border with Iran, China and former USSR and strategically extremely important. 9/11 was nothing more than a lie to justify your attack on Afghanistan. Now that you are stuck and hundreds of billions out of pocket, you have no choice but to leave with your tails between your legs, like Russia and many others before them. You have failed miserably, the same way you failed in Iraq, where a Shia government run by Iran is currently in place; same as Libya, where a civil war is currently ongoing and has become a common route for migration from Africa.
The problem Americans have is that their heads are stuck so deep down the gutter, that they will never acknowledge facts on the ground.

I’m quite certain 9/11 actually happened…

Seems Afghanistan’s solution was a routing of al-qaeda with whatever force necessary, then just bog them down with special ops and intel in perpetuity. Can’t cure the nation of Taliban because the nation is Taliban. There is the problem that the Taliban, if one considers them a government, were the only government openly funding al-qaeda, but it doesn’t seem worthwhile (from cost:benefit) to try and eliminate them. And Iraq, of course, was taking thousands of American lives and trillions of dollars and sending it into a void. Counter-terror appears to generally be the purview of specialists, not ground armies. We have to be careful about playing into their strategy of draining our coffers and morale.

Wouldn’t be Russia Today without the moonbat, anti-US conspiracy theories…

Still remember RT stating IS would be in control of Mosul for perhaps decades and that U.S. forces couldn’t help in the takeover of Raqqa as Kurds were updating pictures of them storming the city. The Russians, especially with TASS and Pravda have a lurid historical attachment to propaganda–it may, at times, be beneficial in the short-term but it comes out in the mix in the long-term. The communist pedigree of reverse-psychology absurdities packaged as common sense can be seen in the left within our own borders as marxism infiltrates.

……………………..
And yet there are still idiots who believe that the Taliban have “reformed”.
Georg says
As a country it’s definitely a lost cause. Remember reading a number of diary entries from a marine who was stationed there where they were paired up with some “locals” to help them fight the Taliban. The marine was trying to get across that the mentality of the people there is just so far outside the scope of what Westerners would consider reality, whether with regard to their religiosity, primitiveness (yes, I said it), bizarre cultural mores and taboos, etc. The guys fighting the Taliban didn’t seem to have the foggiest idea what the broader goal was, didn’t seem to hold any particular animosity toward the Taliban, essentially just stuck to themselves and were obviously waiting to return home and go about whatever they were doing before the marines showed up. The locals would often refuse to fight, not show up when they were supposed to, go off and sleep in the middle of the day. You really got the sense from the marine that the whole thing is basically absurd. You can’t make the people like or think something when there is that level of disparity between cultures. I bet the U.S. could pump $20 trillion into that nation and have it be for naught within a few decades.
But to your point, there is no “reform[ing]” them. That is a fantasy. No nation can turn Afghanistan into a capitalist, secular democracy–the country’s too out there.

Seems clear that the only sane way to run an Islamic country is a ruthless dictator who likes booze, women and Western culture. If Iran could get an Attaturk our planet would be so much the better.
LR says
Many Westerners who travelled, or lived there pre-78 coup had fond memories of the place.
Most all the modern, cultured people left when the coup happened, and the rebellious ones still left in the country when the Taliban took over were often murdered.
Afghan’s leaders were valiant in their attempt to modernize Afghanistan into the 20th Century. Too bad Russia had to invade, and then poor Afghanistan was left in complete shambles. Major mistake for the U.S.
40 yrs. of war, Islamic Jihad, and marrying cousins isn’t exactly conducive to creating an intelligent population.

Did anyone here see the movie “VICE” ? The writers and producers of that movie said they tried their best to be accurate. The movie was about Vice President Dick Cheney and his impact on American foreign policy with respect to Iraq and Afghanistan.
The movie sublimely reveals that VP Cheney saw US involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan as a way to enrich himself and his pals at Halliburton through war. He okayed “no bid” contracts for Halliburton so they could bill the US government for the goods/services they were providing and supplying to these 2 nations.
It sickens me that the George W. Bush administration was so ignorant of the tenets of Islam that he and his cronies thought that by involving US troops and US manufacturers’ goods in these 2 countries, they were helping the leadership of Iraq and Afghanistan “to establish democracy”. If there is 1 thing that Jihad Watch has proven repeatedly since I have started reading articles here and being a fan of Robert Spencer (and sometimes donating $ to the David Horowitz Freedom Center) is that Muslims do not want democracy even if they live in countries with democratic governments. THEY WANT SHARIA’H. Why? Because they say “Democracy is man-made but Sharia’h is from Allah.” 😈
So this article makes perfect sense and is truthful to the max, sad as it is.

Linde, with all respect, I wouldn’t take everything you see in movies as gospel.

After having served a year in Afghanistan, without getting into minutia / details it is long past due to turn Afghanistan into one huge bombing / gunnery range. It is NOT worth any more American lives or blood or American taxpayer money.
