Sweden, Britain in talks with Iran to free tanker seized by Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps

Jul 25, 2019 4:00 pm By Robert Spencer

The only negotiating that these two weak and spineless dhimmi states are likely to engage in will be to open their checkbooks and ask how much money the mullahs want.

“Sweden holds talks with Iran and Britain in an attempt to free tanker that was seized by Revolutionary Guard in the Gulf as Tehran ‘offers to do a trade,'” by Joseph Curtis, Mailonline, July 24, 2019:

Sweden is holding talks with Iran and Britain in an attempt to free an oil tanker seized by the Revolutionary Guards in the Strait of Hormuz last week.

The Stena Impero, which is British-flagged but owned by a Swedish company, is currently being held in the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas.

The Swedish foreign ministry said: ‘Sweden is conducting a dialogue at various levels with the UK, Iran and other relevant stakeholders… and we hope to find a resolution to the issues and de-escalate the tense situation.’

It came as President Hassan Rouhani said Iran does not want confrontation with European powers, adding: ‘Should they be committed to international frameworks and give up their wrong actions, including what they did in Gibraltar, they will receive a proportional response from Iran.’

The spokesman added: ‘Sweden is concerned by developments in the Strait of Hormuz. For Sweden and the EU it is vital that freedom of navigation is protected.

‘Given the very serious situation in the region, it is also important that the measures taken help to ease tensions.’

It comes after shipping firm Stena Bulk, which owns the Stena Impero, said that it had been allowed to speak with the crew of the tanker and they were safe.

Iranian officials also said that Britain has sent a mediator to Iran to try to negotiate the release of the ship and her crew, but sources in the UK said they were unaware of anyone being sent.

Meanwhile Iranian President Hassan Rouhani spoke out about the escalating tensions to say that his country plans to shoot down any more US drones that violate its airspace….

Swedeistan talks??????What’s to talk about here? Iran stole an oil tanker. One doesn’t “talk about” a theft one demand return “or else” but the UK does not have the leadership of old. I can remember a time when Iran …or anyone else for that matter would not dare such…They would have had the whole free world against them…Not so today. It’s way past time to teach these parasite countries a lesson. but who will have the guts to do it?

It’s still a reality that, like it or not, Iran is reacting to the seizure of an Iranian tanker by Britain. It’s a little hypocritical to huff and puff about Iranian transgressions, and ignore the seizure of the Iranian ship.

Do you have any explanation as to why Iran would ship oil to Syria all the way around Africa and through the Straight of Gibraltar when they could have used a smaller ship and gone through the Suez Canal? Also, could Iran not have taken the British to some sort of international court of justice?

I also wonder — why was the Iranian tanker flying the flag of Panama? Panama’s Maritime Authority says this ship, “Grace 1,” was removed from its international boat registry back in May. That seems rather odd.

        • Reziac says

          Jul 26, 2019 at 4:13 am

In other words, the Iranian tanker was interdicted as a smuggler sailing under a false flag.

I suggest a different strategy: For each ship that Iran seizes or otherwise hinders, we sink three of theirs. Yeah, I’m mean, but that’s the only language the mullahs understand.

          Jul 26, 2019 at 12:51 pm

I do not have the least idea. I’m not being ironic or sarcastic, but that question is better directed to the news agencies with hundreds of millions of apparently unused dollars devoted to news research.

As far as the question of whether the Iranian ship was actually a smuggling operation: I support exploring the question in open discussion. I have no love for the Iranian regime. But, the entire news, including Fox News, has totally forgotten that an Iranian ship was intercepted and impounded by British forces. So, it seems like out of the blue, out of pure malice, the Iranians have impounded a British tanker.

If this isn’t manipulated news, I don’t know what is.

I am not a patsy for either side. From what I can see, the MSM, including Fox News, is trying to prep us for some extremely dangerous actions towards Iran. We can obviously win any shooting war with Iran, but as usual, we will lose the peace spectacularly, with thousands of US military killed and trillions of dollars poured down the hole of nation-building.

I would add to that war with Iran will absolutely blow up the whole middle east and beyond, will have huge unintended consequences and ramifications and will very likely draw in China and Russia as well! For instance, the Russian forces in Syria will not fold their hands if there is a direct Russian casualties in Syria because war with Iran will immediately spread to Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Lebanon, Israel and beyond!

Ah, the veiled threat – in any case, we know what Iran wants to do by listening their plans for Israel… And, f course, the “and beyond” part is a reference to Iran’s proxies all over the world – proxies that CB denies existing… “Iran does not have proxies all over the world, it’s all US/CIA/Israeli/Mossad propaganda, and if you don’t treat Iran with RESPECT the whole world will ABSOLUTELY BLOW UP!!!!!”

If you enforce sanctions with military force, that’s a blockade, which is an act of war by international law.

And why are we enforcing sanctions on the government of Syria? It makes no sense. Syria is fighting ISIS, which we are fighting after subsidizing and training them, and Syria is also fighting against US-sponsored rebels. It is the right of the Syrian government to protect itself.

There is absolutely no benefit to US involvement in Middle Eastern affairs. If Britain chooses to impound Iranian ships, even at US request, Britain should have to deal with the Iranian response.

It’s a little far fetched to claim that because of actions Iran took 40 years ago, that the US has carte blanche on any lawless actions against Iran until the end of time.

The time to respond is when an offense takes place. This includes the taking of the Pueblo by the North Koreans, the attack on the US Liberty by the Israeli air force, and the taking of the US embassy by the Iranians. Once you let any response drag out, you might as well just blow it off.

They are not. The best advice we can give the Swedes is to learn about the values and goals of Islam.

I should clarify my position once more.

I do not have any emotional attachment to the Iranian government or the Syrian government. I think it arguable that given a Muslim country, a totalitarian government that protects minorities as long as they keep their heads down is the best you can do. You are not going to get a Jeffersonian republic in Iraq, Syria, Iran or Afghanistan, no matter how many trillions and thousands of military lives you throw down the rat hole.

I do not support half-baked or quarter-baked schemes to intervene in the Middle East on some cooked-up premise, such as the claim that Saddam Hussein was working on weapons of mass destruction. Some of the military say “We fight over there, so we won’t have to fight over here”. Which entirely ignores the fact that our system of immigration control could easily have kept out many or most jihadis, but flopped.

The US State department waved the Saudi 9/11 participants through the visa application process. The Justice Department, following a policy set by Jamie Gorelich, now attorney for Ivanka Trump, mandated that intelligence gathered by the CIA could not be passed to domestic security agencies such as the FBI. So, no follow-up on suspicious behavior by Saudi visa holders.

The FBI was warned twice by Russian intelligence that the Tsarnaov brothers (Boston Marathon bombers) were dangerous, but the FBI gave them a wave-through interview and forgot about it. Ditto for the Parkland shooter, except they didn’t even bother interviewing him.

What’s the common theme? We are not enhancing internal security by foreign adventures. We enhance internal security by enhancing internal security. We allow in Somali and Palestinian refugees, we get Antifa-supporting and ISIS-supporting politicians like Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib. Again, we get America haters like AOC regardless of how many bomber runs or drones we send to Syria and Afghanistan.

Israel and Saudi Arabia are forming a partnership against Iran. Fine with me. If Iran blusters enough about wiping Israel off the face of the earth, Iran will get glassed over by Israel. Again, fine with me as long as the US is not involved. If the US is not there to hold Israel back, Iran might think twice about tweaking the dragon.

If the crew is being detained ON THE TANKER, why cannot the Brits send in – don’t they have one? – the equivalent of a Seal Team to sneak aboard, “terminate” the guards, cut the mooring lines, fire up the boilers while they keep the “Republican Guard” occupied, and steam it out of there. Iranian action is not tit for tat – it was High Piracy in International waters, which should mean “Pretty please may we have our tanker back?” is not an option. As for “Negotiate”, one does not “Negotiate” Nuclear Weapons. There is only one way to say NO, you will not have them.

They have to pay the Jizya with willing submission and feel themselves subdued (9:29). That means writing checks and letting the Iranians smack them in the face, spit on them, and then step on their necks as they eat dirt. Then they have to go back and redouble their efforts to get the JCPOA back on track so that Iran can enrich uranium, develop missiles, export their oil and wage nuclear war against the usual infidel suspects.

The Iranians have captured a tanker that is Swedish owned with an international crew that has no oil onboard the only thing British about it is the red ensign. Meanwhile the British have an Iranian super tanker with an estimated 2 million barrels of oil onboard. Who is in the better position??

    • CogitoErgoSum says

      Jul 25, 2019 at 6:23 pm

The Brits should keep the oil they have and give the Iranian tanker to the Swedes in exchange for the one the Iranians took. The home country of each crew member can work with the Iranians on the problem of getting people back home (no Brits or Swedes were on board). However, next time the Iranians will pick a tanker filled with oil so somebody will need to act as a tanker escort until the Iranians feel defeated. I’m hoping Trump won’t bother with providing the escort service except for ships flying the U.S. flag. Maybe someday Iran can get their oil back — when it’s under a different government. (Just my two cents on the matter.)

It’s fine for the EU to make up some of its own laws which can only apply to its own member states to not trade with Syria, but when they expect other sovereign nations to go along, and then seize their property when they don’t, is an act of piracy at the very least, if not an act of war.
And why are they all still against trading with Syria?! Is it to continue the Hussein Obama plans for the “Arab Spring” uprisings, to replace Assad’s basically secular regime with one of some irate Caliphate-bound mullahs?! What the hell is wrong with all of them?! It *almost* seems like they’re stil a part of some high-level globalist plot to totally destabilize the region…!
