“We entered a sort of verbal deal which tells them: I want no more attacks on French soil, but I will allow you to come to France and guarantee nothing will happen to you.”
The kind of concession that only emboldens jihadis.
“France Promised Not To Harm Palestinian Terrorists Who Killed Jews,” by Cnaan Liphshiz, JTA, August 9, 2019 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):
France agreed not to target Palestinian terrorists who killed French Jews in Paris in 1982 if they refrain from carrying out further attacks on French soil, a former top spy revealed.
Yves Bonnet, who headed the now-defunct DST service in the 1980s, said this in January to a judge investigating the 1982 attack in which six people were murdered and 22 injured at a kosher restaurant on Rosiers Street in Paris, Le Parisien reported Thursday.
The suspects in the attack on the Jo Goldberg deli are wanted for questioning as per a 2015 French arrest warrant. One of the suspects lives in Jordan, another near Ramallah in the West Bank and a third in Norway, according to the CRIF umbrella group of French Jewish communities.
None of the relevant governments have agreed to extradite the suspects, whom French investigators believe belonged to the Abu Nidal terrorist group affiliated with Fatah.
“We entered a sort of verbal deal which tells them: I want no more attacks on French soil, but I will allow you to come to France and guarantee nothing will happen to you.”
French authorities allowed two of the alleged perpetrators to visit their brothers in arms in French prisons after the 1982 attack, in which the terrorists threw grenades into the packed restaurant, which became the scene of the bloodiest anti-Semitic attack in France since World War II….

Surprisingly, French military forces did not retaliate.
Hitler had taken possession of the region without firing a single shot.”

Emilie Green says
Until his invasion of Poland Hitler got away with so much. The 1933 Enabling Act which was the path he exploited to take over Germany itself, he began rearmament, laughing at the Treaty of Versailles, withdrew from the League, refused further reparation payments, all done without any adverse consequence from any other European nation. Then Rhineland/Ruhr Valley incursion. Even he admitted that he held his breath on that one, fully aware along with his generals that France could have easily pushed him back.
But France punted. Hitler knew at that point he had their number. And started aggressively picking off Germany’s neighbors, all without firing a shot.
The gutless Europeans are doing it all over again by allowing Islam in Europe, and in a big way.
The cycle is repeating.
Guy Forester says
Unfortunately, western Europe does not have either the industrial capacity or the manpower reserves to mount any kind of serious defense against a determined foe. Social program spending has been the ticket to election success.
James Lincoln says
Western Europe also does not have the WILL to fight against a determined foe, namely Islam.
SAFI says
+1 for James Lincoln’s post.
The West shows unmistakable symptoms of a civilization in terminal decline. Chief among those symptoms is the evident lack of a will to defend itself even when its very survival is at stake. This is not a secret known only to Europeans. All outside ovbservers have noticed it, including islamic supremacists, who are now convinced that Europe is ripe for conquest, and that the time has come to avenge 1683 and all other “humiliations” they’d suffered back in the centuries when Europeans still possessed a spine. So far the only European response to the latest resurgence of supremacist Islam has been endless appeasement and open displays of cowardice.
The problem with appeasement though, besides its ovious demoralizing effects, is that it can’t really prevent conflict. There’s a quote from Churchill which says that if you have to choose between war and shame, and you choose shame, then shame you will get … but you will also get war…
Appeasement works even less with Islam than it does with nazism. That’s because Islam is even less limited in its goals. The islamic supremacists will not be satisfied with just creating an islamic caliphate that will only be one empire among several… their goal is total world domination and they are going to settle for nothing less than that (“until all religion is for Allah”.)
Not to mention that appeasement towards Islam is also sending a very wrong message towards a rising China, which has been on its own revanchist path to avenge its own “century of humiliation” (as well as others who might hold grudges and harbor revanchist designs against the West.)
Wellington says
Accurate historical reference, Emilie Green.
Western Europe seemingly never learns. As another example, the modern Germans have stupidly concluded that fighting is evil when they should have concluded that fighting evil is paramount.
Western Europe is (once again) a total wuss, be it France, the UK, Sweden, et al. And this abject cowardice is enshrined by the EU—an organization for the utter annihilation of Western Civilization if ever there were one, all the while doing so in the name of those twin idiocies, political correctness and multiculturalism, which, btw, no other civilization or society but the silly West embraces.
Right now, the US under Trump and Eastern Europe (minus Russia of course which is not only no help at all but a hindrance yet once again to the cause of freedom) are the best the West have. Hope it’s enough.
May be. May not be. Verdict still in doubt.
Lavéritétriomphera says
The crisis is global and Europe is, among others, on the front line.
Mark Swan says
Absolutely Lavéritétriomphera, I agree—
German sociologist Ulrich Beck makes some profound comments about the potential consequences of tensions that are building on the continent. He notes that today we live with “the constant expectation of catastrophes” at the local, national and global level which affects how people and nations think and function (German Europe, p. 8).
This expectation can unleash historical forces that “set the political landscape in motion” and the “existing order of things may legitimately be suspended in order to defend the common good” (pp. 26–27).
He continues, “rhetoric of the imminent collapse of Europe may easily result in the birth of a political monster” as these “impending catastrophes throw up opportunities… that can be seized by a man—or indeed a woman—with a talent for power” (pp. 45–46).
Professor Beck also notes that “the anticipation of a catastrophe can lead people to do things tomorrow that were absolutely inconceivable yesterday” (p. 82). Europe is approaching a major turning point.

A ban on renting apartments to Jews on France’s Cote d’Azur
reportedly has not been changed since it was enacted under
the World War II-era Vichy government.
The law requires that applicants for certain
apartments attest that they are:
“French, non-Jews, and not married to a Jew,
in the legal sense currently in effect.”
The newspaper Nice-Matin, which discovered the law,
reported that Jews who wish to buy an apartment in Nice
must pay an extra $1,000 to $10,000 in notary fees
to get around these articles, and that such arrangements
are probably in effect in other towns in France as well.

That’s similar to many rules of joining fraternities in America which didn’t change till late 1950s (years after the war vs fascism and racism) from the verbiage restricting non-Aryans, as influenced by 1920s to early 1930s social thought among elites.

“The Paris Zone: A Cultural History, 1840-1944”
by James Cannon
Since the mid-1970s, the colloquial term zone has often been associated with the troubled post-war housing estates on the outskirts of large French cities. However, it once referred to a more circumscribed space: the zone non aedificandi (non-building zone) which encircled Paris from the 1840s to the 1940s. This unusual territory, although marginal in a social and geographical sense, came to occupy a central place in Parisian culture. Previous studies have focused on its urban and social history, or on particular ways in which it was represented during particular periods.
By bringing together and analysing a wider range of sources from the duration of the zone’s existence, this study offers a rich and nuanced account of how the area was perceived and used by successive generations of Parisian novelists (including Zola and Flaubert), poets, songwriters, artists, photographers, film-makers, politicians and town-planners. More generally, it aims to raise awareness of a neglected aspect of Parisian cultural history while pointing to links between current and past perceptions of the city’s periphery.
