What was it that Prime Minister Modi of India did in early August that was so terrible? His government announced that it had decided to scrap Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, which since 1949 had conferred a special status on the state of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) – the only Muslim-majority state in India — allowing it to be nearly autonomous, except in areas like foreign policy and defense. Until now J&K has been able to mostly govern itself, even having its own constitution and flag. Now its status will be that of a “union territory,” meaning that India’s central government in New Delhi will gain much more control over the area’s affairs.
This change has Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Imran Khan, foaming at the mouth. In a series of tweets on August 18, he alleged that Muslims in India were being “disenfranchised” and “RSS goons were on the rampage.” But no Muslim citizens have been “disenfranchised.” He compared the Indian government to those who ruled Nazi Germany. Khan posted: “India has been captured, as Germany had been captured by Nazis, by a fascist, racist Hindu supremacist ideology and leadership. This threatens 9 million Kashmiris under siege in IOK [Indian occupied Kashmir] for over two weeks which should have sent alarm bells ringing across the world with UN observers being sent there.”
Now let’s see. Which Muslims have been “disenfranchised” — that is, citizens deprived of the legitimate right to vote? So far, none. Are RSS (a Hindu nationalist group, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) “goons..on the rampage”? Are Muslims being attacked all over India? Between May 2015 and December 2018, a total of 36 Muslims were killed in 12 Indian states, according to Human Rights Watch. Compare that to the 166 Hindus (and Jews) killed in the single attack by Muslim terrorists in Mumbai in 2008. Or consider that in the same period, May 2015 to December 2018, hundreds of Hindus, Sikhs, and other non-Muslims, including Indian army personnel, were killed by Muslim terrorists, some of them trained in Pakistan. Who is on the rampage? Who are the goons?
Below are eye-opening 2015-2017 statistics for terrorist incidents (those for 2018 were unavailable) in India. Most, though not all, of these incidents of terrorism, were carried out by Muslims.
Terrorist incidents in India
Year Number of incidents Deaths Injuries
2017 1000 470 702
2016 1,025 467 788
2015 884 387 649
Imran Khan claims hysterically that “the threat also extends to Pakistan, the minorities in India and in fact the very fabric of Nehru and Gandhi’s India. One can simply Google to understand the link between the Nazi ideology and ethnic cleansing and genocide ideology of the RSS-BJP [Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh-Bharatiya Janata Party] founding fathers.”
He went on to claim that Indian Muslims in India face oppression and discrimination: “Already four million Indian Muslims face detention camps and cancellation of citizenship. [The] world must take note as this genie is out of the bottle and the doctrine of hate and genocide, with RSS goons on the rampage, will spread unless the international community acts now to stop it.”
What “detention camps” for Muslims does Imran Khan have in mind? The Indian government has made plans, in the single State of Assam, to detain those migrants, many but not all of whom are Muslim, who cannot prove that they or their families were citizens before 1971. Why 1971? That was the year when war broke out in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and many Muslims fled into the Indian state of West Bengal to avoid the fighting, but never returned to Bangladesh. These are the “four million Indian Muslims” whom he claims face “cancellation of citizenship,” but who never obtained legal citizenship in the first place; they were refugees from Bangladesh who simply remained.
A comparison of how Muslims have fared in India with how Hindus have done in Pakistan and Bangladesh is revealing. Muslims constituted 9.8% of the Indian population in the 1951 census. Now the Muslim percentage of the Indian population has gone up by 50%, to 14.5%. Meanwhile, since Partition in 1949, in Pakistan (formerly West Pakistan), the Hindu population has shrunk from 15% to 1.6%. In Bangladesh (formerly East Pakistan), the Hindu population has gone from 35% to 10.5%. Clearly it is Hindus, not Muslims, who are suffering.
Not content with labeling Narendra Modi a “fascist,” “racist,” and “Hindu supremacist,” Imran Khan claims that his regime is a worldwide threat: “The world must also seriously consider the safety and security of India’s nuclear arsenal in the control of the fascist, racist Hindu supremacist Modi government. This is an issue that impacts not just the region but the world.”
Prime Minister Khan shows no signs of tamping down his hysterical invective. The “fascist, racist Hindu supremacist Modi government” has done nothing more terrible than cease to allow Muslim-majority Jammu and Kashmir to exist as an autonomous state. It will now come under greater control of the national government. Modi’s move did not occur in a vacuum. It was a response to three decades of attacks on the Hindu Pandits of Kashmir by local Muslims.
Horrible things have happened in Kashmir. But the scrapping of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution is not among them. Imran Khan would have you believe that atrocities have been, and are being, committed against the Muslims, in Jammu and Kashmir. But the most telling statistic about J&K is this: in 1990, there were between 300,000 and 600,000 Kashmiri Pandits (Brahmins) in Kashmir; now there are fewer than 3,000. That is a reduction in the Hindu Pandit population of between 99 and 99.5%. What could be more damning to the Muslim case?
The killings of the helpless Pandits led those who survived to flee their ancestral homeland in Kashmir for places further south in India where, having abandoned their homes and lands, they arrived impoverished.. The story of what happened to the Kashmiri Pandits has seldom been told in the Western media. (In this respect, it is like the failure of the Western media to discuss the 900,000 Jews who from 1948 to 1951 fled pogroms in Arab lands). No one in the Western media has mentioned it even now, when Kashmir is so much in the news, with the Pakistanis and Indian Muslims raging about Prime Minister Modi’s “facist, racist, supremacist” change in the status of J&K. Perhaps now that there will be less autonomy in J&K, and likely a more robust Indian army presence, some of those Pandits will be brave enough to return.
The Indian government would do well, right now, to go firmly on the offensive. Modi himself should remind Imran Khan what happened to the Pandits of Kashmir when the Muslims exercised their autonomy in the state. The “fascist, racist, Nazi” Prime Minister Modi should also let Prime Minister Khan know how many terrorist attacks by Muslims on Hindus in India have taken place in the last few decades, and how many victims there have been. He might even remind Khan – whose howls of rage can well be imagined – and the world about the centuries of Mughal rule, during which there were 70-80 million Hindu victims of Muslim massacres. And then he might, in a final fillip to Imran Khan, he might end with this: “Prime Minister Khan, you describe me as adhering to a ‘fascist, racist, supremacist ideology.’ Given that in the Qur’an Muslims are described as ‘the best of peoples’ (3:110) and non-Muslims described as ‘the most vile of created beings,’ can you see why some might be forgiven for thinking that Islam itself is a ‘supremacist ideology’? Billions of non-Muslims would welcome your answer.”

Article 370 has not be scrapped. An amendment to it in 1954, by Presidential order, suspending sections of India’s fundamental Constitutional rights of all citizens, was implemented in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
A new Presidential order has now superseded the earlier one and extended the Indian Constitution in its entirety to the aforesaid region. It includes, among other provisions, the right of women to contest elections to the state assembly (rather than be nominated), the Right to Information, the Right to Education, the right of long settled minorities (100,000 Gurkhas since 1846) to vote in assembly elections and the ability of non residents to purchase land in J&K. Land cannot be seized, someone (all Muslims, as it happens) will have to exercise their economic rights to sell it to an outsider and may decide not to do so. The temporary Article 370 can only be scrapped by a two-thirds majority of the Indian Parliament.

Coming from one who I believe subscribes to the ‘philosophy’ of a certain Mohammed, whose controlling totalitarian ideology virtually ticks all the boxes for ‘fascism’, has a discernible arab-centred racist element and is openly supremacist in its aim for world domination? Well, as the saying goes, it certainly takes one to know one (apart fro the ‘Hindu’ bit) – or perhaps ‘think’ they know one because they’re not aware of their own self-projection. By the way, what is it about the name ‘Khan’ that seems to cause the bearer of that name to spout inanities? Only we’ve got one in London who’s worse.

Well done to JW. I have forwarded the most excellent interview by Jamie Glazov of a American security expert posted by JW on the two branches of the Islamist tree with the long overlooked and over hanging branch of the Deobandhi sect which is flourishing in India. I have forwarded it to several contacts over there.
CRUSADER says
The Deobandi Movement in India is controlled by the Darul Uloom Deoband and the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind. About 20% of the Indian Muslims identify as Deobandi. Even though a minority, the Deobandis form the dominant group among Indian Muslims due to their access to state resources and representation in Muslim bodies. The Deobandis are referred to as ‘Wahhabis’ by their opponents — the Barelvis and the Shias. In reality, they are not Wahhabis, even though they share many of their beliefs. The true Wahhabis among Indian Muslims are said to be fewer than 5 percent.
In Pakistan
An estimated 15–20 percent of Pakistan’s Sunni Muslims consider themselves Deobandi. According to Heritage Online, nearly 65% of the total seminaries (Madrasah) in Pakistan are run by Deobandis, whereas 25% are run by Barelvis, 6% by Ahl-i Hadith and 3% by various Shia organizations. The Deobandi movement in Pakistan was a major recipient of funding from Saudi Arabia from the early 1980s up until the early 2000s, whereafter this funding was diverted to the rival Ahl al-Hadith movement. Having seen Deoband as a counterbalance to Iranian influence in the region, Saudi funding is now strictly reserved for the Ahl al-Hadith. Many Deobandi schools in Pakistan teach Wahhabi principles.
In the United Kingdom
In the 1970s, Deobandis opened the first British-based Muslim religious seminaries (Dar ul-Ulooms), educating Imams and religious scholars. Deobandis “have been quietly meeting the religious and spiritual needs of a significant proportion of British Muslims, and are perhaps the most influential British Muslim group.”
According to a 2007 “investigation” by The Times, about 600 of Britain’s nearly 1,500 mosques were under the control of “a hardline sect”, whose leading preacher loathed Western values, called on Muslims to “shed blood” for Allah and preached contempt for Jews, Christians and Hindus. The same investigative report further said that 17 of the country’s 26 Islamic seminaries follow the ultra-conservative Deobandi teachings which The Times said had given birth to the Taliban. According to The Times almost 80% of all domestically trained Ulema were being trained in these hardline seminaries. An opinion column in The Guardian described this “investigation” as “a toxic mixture of fact, exaggeration and outright nonsense.”
In 2014 it was reported that 45 per cent of Britain’s mosques and nearly all the UK-based training of Islamic scholars are controlled by the Deobandi, the largest single Islamic group.

Good for India. It’s time for the elected representatives of India to end this psycho-drama and regularize the status of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is the right of the two houses of the Indian parliament to do this.
Any Muslims who want to live in Pakistan can move there in the full knowledge that Muslims in India get a better education and have a higher standard of living generally than Muslims in Pakistan.
Pakistan chose to go its own way and look at the sad difference.

They have zero tolerance for other faiths.Once Muslims attain 51% of the population, they start pressing for more and more Islamic rules and eventually proclaim islamic status for the entire country. There are now 57+ such ISLAMIC countries; so, who are the supremacists? Muslims caused the partition of India because they refused to live with Hindus. They got 2 countries (PAK & BGD) and they claimed their Islamic status from day one, yet they dare object to a Hindu India? India’s Hindu status is justified not only because it has an overwhelming Hindu majority but because it is the ancient land of the Hindus.

I gained a completely different understanding from NPR’s interview with Professor Suvir Kaul, an historian at the University of Pennsylvania. The interviewer was the distinguished Scott Simon. His trustworthy, warm and reassuring voice is familiar to all NPR listeners.
The key section is as follows.
Scott noted that “I’ve always respected Indian democracy and freedom of expression and their commitment to having a multi-religious, multi-ethnic state.” He then asked Prof. Kaul a simple yet critical and unbiased question: “Is that in jeopardy now?”
Professor Kaul replied at length that democracy in Indiana has “been in jeopardy for a few years now and I will explain what I mean. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, the grouping that is the parent body for the BJP, the Bharatiya Janata Party that has come to electoral power in two national elections, including most recently. They were formed in the early years of this century with a very explicit agenda to Hinduize India and to put minorities in their place. So there has been, for the last I would say 80 years or more, a slow and concerted effort to get that kind of Hindu majoritarian identity into parliamentary power, and they have succeeded. They’ve succeeded so well that they are now in a position to override some of our constitutional protections such that the very unitary form of our Constitution – India is meant to be a union of states which means that the center has differential relationships with different states, including Jammu and Kashmir. Well those elements of the Constitution can now be overridden through acts of parliament without any discussion with the opposition, or indeed the people whose lives are going to be transformed.”
Scott Simon then summarized the outstanding issue for NPR listeners with simple moral clarity: “What you’re describing is a dictatorship of the majority, which is not what democracy is about.”
As in the title of this posting in J-W, Prof. Kaul answered in reference to the rise of fascism in Italy and Nazism in Germany: “I keep worrying that in a number of European instances and, you know the ones I’m thinking about, fascism came to power through parliamentary elections. And I fear that some of that is going to be visible increasingly in the India of the near future.”
It is important to note that Prof. Kaul teaches at one of the most distinguished educational institutions in the United States and indeed in the world. Scott Simon has won Peabody and Emmy awards as well as many honorary degrees. NPR has movingly brought to national listeners their deep concerns for the human rights of minorities in India, especially via current effort to (as stated by prof. Kaul and not challenged by Scott) “Hinduize” India.

Yes sorry Moshe but who is more accurate JW or. NPR?
India has been a majority Hindus country for many centuries BUT the Hindus in India have had fewer rights than the minorities. In fact the minorities have thrived and their cipomminities have progressed in India. It is due to India’s Dharmic philosophy embedded in her peoples psyche that secularism has thrived.
There is no move to “Hinduize India “ as such but there is a move to allow the Hindus to have a greater say in the running of their country and that is not a threat to the rights of minorities.

I suggest the Indian government should play them at their own game, by coming down on them hard whilst crying out loud the same kind of bullshit that they cry out to the world when non Muslims decide to fight back against their tyranny.

WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC and to secure to all its citizens:
JUSTICE, social, economic and political;
LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship;
EQUALITY of status and of opportunity; and to promote among them all
FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation.
Based on the above oath, which is cast in stone, The Republic of India by definition, can not be redefined as a religious state built for a particular religion. The Indian Constitution borrows heavily from the Irish, American, Canadian, Australian, French, South African and Japanese constitutions. It does not favor any one religion over another. All members of the Indian Parliament are required to swear allegiance only to the constitution (and not to any religious book).
For the “nominated” prime minister of a self-proclaimed islamic republic (soon to be patterned after riyasat-e-mecca) to call the secular Indian Republic a fascist, Nazi regime exposes his ignorance.

Among those principles enshrined in the Indian Constitution, what can a Muslim possibly adhere to and still remain true to supremacist Islam? Not “justice, social economic and poitical.”. Not “liberty of thought, expression, belief.”given that ex-Muslims, apostates, should be killed and non-Muslims have over the centuries felt the pressure to convert in order to avoid the onerous conditions placed on them as tolerated dhimmis, including the jizyah which Akbar removed but Aurangzeb reinstated –a pressure which led millions of Hindus and Buddhists in India, over the centuries, to become Muslims Not “equality of status” given that Muslims are “the best of peoples” (Qur’an 3:110) and non-Muslims “the most vile of created beings” (98:6) Not true “fraternity” given that Muslims are warned not to take Christians and Jews as friends, for “they are friends only with each other”- and the same goes without saying for Hindus, Buddhists, and others who in the Muslim worldview are regarded as even lower down than the ahl al-kitab, the People of the Book (Christians and Jews).
